Why does Skype suggest contacts to block?

Please help me understand..  PLEASE..  When a user goes to Tools>Options, selects Privacy>Blocked Contacts,  there is a list of contacts blocked.   Below that is an option to block a contact/s from a list given from skype.  I wanted to know why those in particular contacts appear there.  Why does skype suggest those particular contacts?/ What was done to make those in particular contacts be on that list?

Hi, misscrowley1, and welcome to the Community,
I never figured out what the logic is behind whose names appear on that list and whose do not.  I once thought it may have been the most recently contacted names, however that is not always the case.  I think it's random!
Kind regards,
Elaine

I had spent about 3 hours to cancel my subscription but couldn't.
Really skype is a reliable company? Absolutely NO I think.
    They made me angry!!!

    Hi,
I understand you are upset and if you still have trouble cancelling your Skype Premium subscription then you can contact customer service as explained here: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1170/How-can-I-contact-Skype-Customer-Service
Most of Skype pages have header menu that includes link "Support"
If you click on it then you will be taken to support site that provides solutions to most common questions. Millions of customers use it every single day and find their answer without the help from customer service.
If you don't find an answer from there then all you need to do is search "customer support" and first link you get is: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1170/How-can-I-contact-Skype-Customer-Service

    Hi sydneysmith1234,
I can see in your account that you have an active calling subscription. Please note that subscriptions renew automatically, as stated in our Terms of Use. You will be charged for it's renewal depending on the period you selected. Please refer to the private message I sent to you for further details.
To check your private message, just go to Skype Community home page (community.skype.com), scroll at the bottom of the page. You will see "Private Message" just above "Users Online."
Due to the time it can take for some transactions to be processed, we charge you three days in advance to ensure prompt delivery of your subscription. You do not lose these three days: your subscription is still valid for the full period that you sign up for.
Your subscription will renew even if you are not using it. Skype subscription is the same with other subscriptions like cables, telephones, etc., wherein you are automatically charged for their renewal.

  • Why does listener show +ASM1 as BLOCKED

I did a lsnrctl status on the listener and it showed that +ASM1 status as BLOCKED. Why does listener show ASM instance as blocked? How does the agent connect to ASM instance if it is blocked?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I assume the ASM entry that you are showing refers to what should be in db_1/network/admin/tnsnames.ora?
My tnsnames.ora does not have an ASM entry at all, and I am experiencing the same issue as the original poster. Should I add one and restart ?

  • Why does Skype do not allow to delete conversation with single contact?

IT is a simple question only if Skype can be HONEST and answer it truthfully.. What is the reason that we can not have a feature where we can delete the single conversation with one contact. Now the option skype has does not allow that. You either delete your entire history with all contacts or you have to keep the conversation history you do not want to keep.. I mean It has to be on purpose that Skype has not allowed this option. If you absolutely do not care and will not allow this option, then at least be honest and tell us this is the reason and we can either shut up or move on to some other service... I doubt I will get an honest ansewer

Ever since MS bought Skype, it has gone to craps.. but I guess just like anything else in corporate America, Ethics is not the words, Executives want to hear.. I AM SURE  Mr. Sweden was not so " I do not give a S&&%T " kinda guy when he developed the Skype but then money came in and he said, WHY NOT? let us do whatever makes us most money and here we are , perfect exploitations of users just because we use free product so we have no right to complain

  • Why does Skype not have a call centre or contact n...

    Good day,
I hope someone can help me as there is no contact number whatsoever to get hold of Skype!!!
I live in South Africa and use the Skype DUALphone 4088 to make calls worldwide, therefore I have the Unlimited World subscription.
Now I'm thinking of using Skype for local calls to landline and mobile phones within S.A. This is where I'm stuck!
There is a subscription to landline calls only, 400 min. / month will cost me $5.99 which means $0.015 (1.5 $ cents) per minute.
However there is a second subscription which I'd also like to use, 120 min. / month to mobile AND landlines for $7.99 per month (= $0.067 / 6.7 cents).
Now here the confusion and my questions:
1.) I don't want to pay one cent more than 1.5 cents to landlines and 6.7 cents to mobile phones within SA. So how do I setup my subscriptions to accomplish that, because if I only purchase the $7.99 package I'll be paying 6.7 cents to landlines and that is far more expensive than Telkom!!!???
2.) What would the szenario be if I purchase both subscriptions???
Please don't get me wrong, Skype is awesome but their support structure sucks...

  • TOM Skype - Adware / Malware (why does Skype coope...

    Hello,
This is a repost, since this was not answered in roughly the last two years since it was posted. I would link to the old post, but it seems that it's "not permitted in this community" when I try to link to it.
The old post was posted in 2009, and had included several other users also asking for an explanation.
"It's disturbing to me that Skype can claim to care about privacy, security, and trust, while cooperating with a company like TOM. What's worse - if you type "skype.com" in your browser in China, you get redirected to the skype.tom.com site.
TOM skype includes advertisements, malware, and spyware, and there have even been reports of trojans being bundled with it available from the tom-skype website. This obviously goes completely against the principles that skype claims to embrace.
Anyone from Skype have an explanation for this? I personally love Skype - but it boggles my mind that there could possibly be justification for cooperation with an unethical company like TOM. "
"This is true and completely unacceptable. Skype, downloaded from China, not only features constant adware (much of it unsuitable for children btw, not to mention extremely irritating), but also allows dodgy advertisers to send chat messages. It is hugely disappointing, and a huge blow to skype's integrity. Completely unprofessional. The re-directing trick (there is no warning at any stage that the user is downloading a different product) borders on criminality. "
"that is nothing compared to my experience.
after doing a system reinstall and trying to download skype from china, i got sent to skype TOM via the redirect, installed it, and then found that i could no longer use my bought and paid for skype credit.
i was told my call could not be completed, and asked to buy new credit in the form of RMB.
i am now downloading a normal copy of skype from p2p, hope this does the trick.
I am VERY, VERY, dissapointed. "
"Why are they so bloody ignorant. they don't care for their users. I hope they be doomed soon. this Skype Tom is SO Fckn Irritating....They should DIE!!! "
"The truth is, Skype participated in efforts making china an unsecure place to use Skype if you use the golden keywords of "milk powder", "democracy", "communist" or whatever ..
    -- link removed --"
"Forget about the political thing - it's all about economics and making money. Skype Tom is the most ridiculous partnership. I guarantee that Skype HQ doesn't know a thing about what's happening - each time i sign in i get a bunch of pseudo *beep* popping up for tom.com. It's garbage - and when i contacted skype support, they were oblivious - and didn't even seem to know what Tom.com was. Someone in Skype sold a contract and made some fast cash. The brand value was offset of course, by an amount 10x greater than that contract. "
"The worst thing is not only that I managed to circumvent the annoying Tom.skype website and download an international "Chinese" free copy of the program, the really annoying issue here is that when the last update came to place, I found it to be a bit weird that my antivirus program found some malware software in it. I'm really disappointed with this, since I believe even if you "cooperate" with Chinese authorities, you can not shove up our throats a "conveniently" manufactured lie in order to please some. We should be able to download or at least continue using the malware-free version of Skype, not this completely inappropriate excuse of a software. Sure, the quality is better than the one I used to have when using the international version, but what's the real price? "
"No one really seems to care .. How wonderful .. No comment whatsoever- If you're in china- everything you know about Skype is foul .. Security is not an option .. "
"As an expat living in shanghai, i recently reinstalled my windows operating system.
I use skype to talk to my family, and so tried reinstalling skype.
I was redirected to the TOM skype trojan site, and figuring it was just the localized version of the normal skype site, i downloaded. After running it, I realized what this was, and uninstalled.
From some basic googling i have found that TOM skype actually records, or at some point did record, your conversations. The recorded conversations were uploaded to their servers, where the China Communist Party government would then have full access to them.
This needs some answers, and is a serious breach of trust!
quote from wikipedia, feel free to see their sources:
Since September 2007, users in China trying to download the Skype software client have been redirected to the site of TOM, a joint venture between a Chinese wireless operator and Skype, from which a modified Chinese version can be downloaded.[116] The TOM client participates in China's system of Internet censorship, monitoring text messages between Skype users in China as well as messages exchanged with users outside the country.[117][118] Niklas Zennström, then chief executive of Skype, told reporters that TOM "had implemented a text filter, which is what everyone else in that market is doing. Those are the regulations." He also stated: "One thing that’s certain is that those things are in no way jeopardising the privacy or the security of any of the users."[119] In October 2008, it was reported that TOM had been saving the full message contents of some Skype text conversations on its servers, apparently focusing on conversations containing political issues such as Tibet, Falun Gong, Taiwan independence, and the Chinese Communist Party. The saved messages contain personally identifiable information about the messages' senders and recipients, including IP addresses, usernames, land line phone numbers, and the entire content of the text messages, including the time and date of each message. Information about Skype users outside China who were communicating with a TOM-Skype user was also saved. A server misconfiguration made these log files accessible to the public for a time.[118][120][121] "
I think your customers (including me) deserve an answer.

Of course, anything you do at an Internet bar is certainly logged and that is not really an issue (as you should be aware of that). Communicating with a user of TOM Skype though, has no warning. Additionally - Skype claims to be "safe and malware free" - but this is clearly not the case for TOM Skype - which also has a bunch of adware in it in addition to the spyware / malware..
Thank you for the response, but I would like a response from Skype support (I've been waiting for two years).

  • Why does Skype require so much info to reset my pw?

Hello, I received an email for my older Skype account saying the pw was changed. I did not change it so I clicked the link to reset the pw where some basic info was requested. (Nothing shady). I was then to be sent a follow up email which seems completely legitimate but the list of required questions is extensive with info I might only have to guess at. Wondering why we need so many questions. As mentioned the site does not seem like a mirror site to me at all. Certificate checks out etc... I just find it odd I need soooo much info to reset my pw and that I already provided some normal basic info in the first email. The list of requested info is below: Full NameSkype NameEmailCountry If you used a credit card, please provide any two of the first six digits of the credit card number and any two of the last four digits of the credit card number.  If you used PayPal or Skrill, please provide the email address that is associated with your PayPal or Skrill account.  If you used another payment method, please specify which one you used. What email address did you provide when you registered? What is your date of birth (dd/mm/yy)? When did you create your Skype account (mm/yy)? Please provide five names that are in your Contacts list. What is the total cost of a recent order that you have made?  Please provide two phone numbers that you have recently called or contacted using Skype. What is your full billing address? What name (first and last) did you provide when you registered for your account?Which country did you select when you registered? Please describe your problem in the box below.

  • Why does Arch suggest /boot for $esp mount point?

    Hi all,
Something has been bugging me, and I can't figure out online why this is the case. Arch always suggests to mount the $esp on /boot, and by reading the Beginner's Guide/Installation wiki pages (and forums), it looks like the reasons are:
    - gummiboot upstream expects it there
    - pacman can only update kernels in /boot
Other distributions suggest to mount the $esp on /boot/efi, and this has the good effect, that all files of distributions are located in subfolders ($esp/EFI/opensuse/, for example), and are not littering the root $esp folder. If every distribution did what Arch does, then on a multi-distro the root folder of the $esp would have every single kernel/fallback img.
I noticed the FHS doesn't have a standard mount point/folder for the $esp, either.
Is there another reason that Arch suggests this?
    Thanks

Gummiboot's method only works if distros keep the /boot folder free of files, and use directories to cleanly categorise kernels, etc. I have yet to find a distribution that does this.
"Works" is relative here. Gummiboot doesn't do things the way you want; that's fine, because a) you don't use it; and b) you can always organize your EFI images as you see fit. Gummiboot will still accomplish its intended task: booting a working Linux kernel from an EFI image. The Gummiboot Arch wiki page states that the ESP must be mounted at /boot for it to work, but that's it. The UEFI wiki page doesn't mention mounting at boot at all---only to /boot/efi. The EFISTUB page mentions that if you don't mount to /boot, you need to mount the ESP somewhere and manually copy the images to the ESP. The GRUB wiki page doesn't make statements on where the ESP should be mounted, but does make it clear that GRUB needs to be told where the ESP is mounted during installation. The Beginner's Guide does recommend mounting the ESP to /boot, and then links to another page with more information.
Reading the Beginner's Guide without following the links may give the impression that mounting to /boot is something of a requirement, but it depends on the use case. You have four options when booting from UEFI: rEFInd, Gummiboot, GRUB and  EFISTUB. The first requires the ESP to be mount at /boot/efi, like it or not. The second requires it to be mounted at /boot, like it or not. The latter two have no strict requirements of where the ESP be mounted, but mounting anywhere other than /boot requires extra work on the part of the user. Yes, if you mount the ESP to /boot and run multiple distributions then the kernel images are still going to clutter the /boot directory, which is exactly what happens if you share a /boot partition between distributions no matter what (and as I alluded to earlier, there are cases in which this is necessary). UEFI has nothing to do with that, and it's one reason that each distribution has its own naming conventions for its kernel image (a Linux kernel built from source will always be called "bzImage" regardless of the distribution its built on). Arguably, none of that matters unless you're manually moving and deleting kernel images and get confused about which one is which---a case that almost never arises nowadays, and should never arise for the typical desktop user.

  • Why does my Cisco router firewall block Windows Server 2012 traffic, but not Windows Server 2008 traffic?

    Hello,
I run a small business network with five physical servers: three Dell servers running Windows Server 2008 R2, one custom build running 2008, and another custom build running 2012 with Domain Controller Role (same hardware for both custom builds).
The Dell servers are all running the Hyper-V role and each has a number of 2008 VMs.  I also have a 2012 VM with the Domain Controller Role on one of the Hyper-V servers and another VM with a completely base install of 2012.
All servers are plugged into a Cisco SG300-52 switch which is uplinked to a Cisco 881 router which is connected to a cable TWC provided Ubee cable modem.  I have no VLANs setup.  I do have the Firewall on the router configured
    to inspect most traffic.
Here is my problem:  I cannot connect to most of the internet on ANY 2012 server (and all exhibit the exact same behavior), but I have NO problems connecting to the internet from 2008 servers.  Here is what I already know:
1.) I can ping the outside world just fine so ICMP is passing to any external host.
2.) Two of the 2012 servers are DCs running DNS services and they can connect to the internet just fine for DNS requests because they are doing a perfectly good job of providing DNS services to my network.
3.) Here's where it gets really weird: I can browse in internet explorer to Bing.com and it works.  I can also go to a couple other Microsoft websites (though they are very slow).  If I click on any link in Bing, however, it doesn't
work and gives me a page not available error.  If I connect to a non-MS website like Google or my company website, I get page not available.
4.) I have tried to telnet to port 80 at Bing and it works.  I have tried to telnet to port 80 at google.com and it won't connect.  The 2008 servers have no issue telneting to either bing or google on port 80 and none of my client
PCs on the network do either.
5.) Windows Update will not connect and neither will any other update service such as AVG (I have AVG Antivirus installed WITHOUT firewall on two of the three servers. The base 2012 VM has no software installed and no roles...I built it
just to see if it could connect after a fresh install and it still cannot.)
6.) The network connection does not indicate limited connectivity (probably because ICMP appears to be passing successfully)
7.) If I connect the server directly to the modem it has full internet access.
8.) All internal LAN connectivity is perfectly fine and runs at full speed.
9.) I have scoured the internet trying to find other examples of this particular kind of connectivity issue on 2012 and I have found two TechNet articles that are similar, but they both had the same resolution: changing the router
worked, but no one knows why. (I would have included the links, but apparently I cannot do that yet)
My question is this: What is different about Windows Server 2012 networking that would render it unable to communicate through a router that Windows Server 2008 has no problems with?  I ask because, unlike in these two articles where they were
running personal networking equipment they could easily upgrade, I'm running a Cisco 881 with what should be virtually limitless configuration options and I have no desire to replace it.  I have to assume the issue is somehow related to the firewall configuration,
which I could fix easily, but I don't know what to change.  If anyone knows what changed in 2012 and why I would be able to browse to bing and other MS sites but no where else, please pass them along.  Thanks.
