Why does streaming miss some photos

I'm not sure if this is where I should ask, because the problem is between all my devices.
I have Photo Stream on my iPhone (where I usually take pictures), iPad and iPhoto on my MacBook. It didn't stream the photos I took Thur and Fri (but had others until that point. I've used it since it first came out.) I tried backing up my phone to icloud, thinking that would push them, but didn't. I also tried messaging them to myself and the message came through as empty on my phone and not at all on my Mac. I just took another picture and it pushed it right away, but those from Thur and Fri still have not been streamed.
Any ideas as to what caused this? And how to prevent it?

You say you tried to send one of the missing photos via iMessage and didn't get it on the Mac. Did you get it on the iPad? Can you message any photos at all from the phone?

I often have a problem that photos taken with my iPhone (running OS7, but happened on OS6, too) do not migrate via iCloud to iPhoto. I've been manually e-mailing the missing ones, but this is ridiculous -- it's supposed to be seamless, and sometimes it is. But, not always! All my computer software is up to date, and I'm running iPhoto '11.

How are you trying to transfer them? What kind of external device?

Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
Any advice gratefully received!

Why does lightroom not display photos ?

Hello,
all of a sudden lightroom tells me "no photo selected " when I try to open a folder.All the folders are visible but the photos cannot be displayed.I am using lightroom 4.1
The last editing was done less then 12 hours ago without any problems.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Does anyone know why iPhone will not update from PC using latest iTunes?

You are missing one or more photos - youprobably have a page background that requires a photo which is behind a page with photos on it - all pages must either have a photo or be a color - if you have a gray background it requires a photo - look through the book carefully and be sure to look at the background on any full page photos - you will find one or more missing photos

Why can I see some photos in iphoto just fine, but then I will drag something in, edit it, and when I go back later it is not in photos or events. If I search my computer, I can find it, but it doesn't show up in iphoto. Yet other photos show up fine!

I am completely confused by this. Should all photos loaded into iphoto show up? What makes some different from others? Does it matter if they are on the desktop first, straight off the camera, or sent to me via email?? Why should they be different in any way? I just worked on 2 differnt photos - one was sent to me via email, placed on the desktop and dragged into iphoto. It shows up as an event. The other was sent via email, saved directly from the email to iphoto - I went in and edited it and now it is nowhere to be found. Help!!!!

What "other system" are you using to search? And, when you find the Photo, where is it?
Storing files in folders is not using a Photo program at all, it's just using the file manager for the job. You can do this on your Mac just as easily as on your Windows box, with the same advantages (it's easy to understand) and limitations (it's inflexible, limited and treats your photos the same way as it treats your text files.)
iPhoto is a different kind of program alright, and once you finish the learning curve - and for most folks, that's not very long - you may see some additional advantages over storing files in folders. Maybe you won't. It's not for evertbody, but frankly, "if all your friends" can "never find any photos they are looking for" when iphoto offers far more ways to manage, arrange, categorise and seach for your photos than the file manager does, then perhaps you need to look closely at your friends
Seriously: I post this for folks who are getting to know iPhoto for the first time. It's just one way of using the app, but it does demonstrate what I mean by being more flexible than the file manager:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums exensively. I title the pics broadly.
I keyword on a
Who
What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 39+k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
File -> New Smart Album
set it to 'All"
title contains Seattle
keyword is mountain
keyword is snow
rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
New Smart Album
Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

When it is viewed on the computer (Mac Pro, Mac Mini, via Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Opera) it is fine.
When it is viewed on the iPad (original, no camera), it is upside down.
It stays at the wrong orientation regardless how the iPad is rotated.
This does not happen with all photos on this site.
Any ideas?

Cameras can embed orientation data into images so that display/editing software can automatically show them the right way up. The second (and third) images would both appear to have been rotated without amending the orientation data so that the iPad sees them as being "upside-down" and corrects. I downloaded the full size original of the second image and Picasa also displays the image upside-down. Under properties it gives Orientation: Rotated 100 Degrees.
Now we know why, there is the separate issue of whether or not the iPad should obey or ignore orientaion data for images rendered as part of a web page. It certainly leads to an inconsitency with other views of the same page.

IPhoto does not find some photos.

I use a desktop iMac (20-inch, early 2008), OS 10.7.5.
The iPhoto search feature refuses to find some of my photos from a recent upload.
I have eight recent photos of a Crane Hawk in my iPhoto library. I imported them and then labeled them, adding tags, as I've done with 10's of thousands of other photos. I wanted to find them using the search feature rather than digging through a large Event, but when I enter the words "Crane Hawk," I quickly get the five other Crane Hawk photos I've taken over the years, including two even more recent, but not these 8 that I was looking for. I know what event they are in and when I took them, so with some more time, I can go find the photos. But I should be able to bring them up with all my other Crane Hawk photos with the same search.
When I looked further into this, it appears that most if not all of the photos from this same upload won't appear with a search (I have filed them in different events).
I've checked for odd characters, typed, and retyped the photo title, even copied the photo title and pasted it into the search field – and they still won't appear. When I search using the file name (which I find by hovering the pointer over the image title in the upper right), it comes up fine. The search function just can't see the title of any of these photos. When I added the words "Crane Hawk" to the description field of one of the photos, it appears iimmediately with the search, but there are about 500 photos from this recent upload that search won't find.
I've tried suggestions on adding the Pictures folder to the Spotlight privacy panel, then removing it, but that doesn't help (is the search function within iPhoto really Spotlight anyway?)

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Why does it show 54 photos on my About screen, when I have only 9 photos on my iPad mini?

I have an iPad mini 2 (16GB White Wi-Fi) that I got for Christmas of 2013, and absolutely love it. I have had no problems so far. However, there is one thing that annoys me a little.
On my iPad, I have 9 photos that I took with the camera. On the About screen, it says I have 54 photos, and I have no idea why! I've disabled iCloud photo sharing, but I still have no idea why this is happening.
Does anybody know how to fix this? Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Do those 'extra' movies have a little cloud symbol? That means that you have access to the movie but it's stored in the cloud until you download it.
You can go into settings, scroll down to video and then change the setting 'show all videos', if it's showing all of them it shows what's on the device and available in the cloud. If it's not, then all you see is what's actually on your device.

Why does pages miss out certain words when printing?

when I am printing a sheet of labels the printed sheet does not have the full wording, some words are missing. I have overtyped them again and they still don't print out, even though they look fine on the screen and also the print preview. very very frustrating and wasting so many sheets of paper and labels.

It occurs to me that you have set out your labels in a Table and used variable formatting, such as font changes and bolding etc.
This is a known bug in Pages 5 which causes it to drop the formatted text in Tables upon printing or Exporting to pdf.
Try using multiple columns and regular Word Processing formatting to lay out the labels, or do them in Textboxes.

Why does Lightroom adjust my photo 1 second after opening it

I am new to Lightroom and don't understand why it is spoiling the exposure of all my photos.
I import the pictures from my Canon EOS 40D and then when I open one in Library view the exposure remains correct for 1 second and then it gets adjusted - so all my photos are losing their vibrancy. It appears to be reducing the colour saturation. I assume this is some sort of Filter but if so how do I turn it off or remove it?

Everybody has this question when they first use LR. The first thing you see is the camera-embedded JPG, but once LR has a chance to compute its own version of the photo, that is what you see. It is not a case of one being right and one being spoiled, it is a case of one being the camera-manufacturer’s version and one being Adobe’s version using whatever default toning settings that are set in LR. Because your camera’s manufacturer and Adobe are distinct corporations with their own proprietary processes for converting raw data to an image, the two versions will never look the same, so if you are going to use LR, then get used to the LR version and change the defaults to your liking. One thing to understand is that your camera may have some sort of auto-exposure-fix or highlight-recovery mode set that makes the camera-jpg version look a lot different than what the raw data captured and Adobe can only start with the raw-data and do its own thing, so it’s best that you turn off the camera-auto-fix things to keep things more consistent between what you see on the camera review LCD and in LR.
