Why does text flow differently between identical indesign files?

Im struggling here. We have 4 Macs in our studio. When I open the same file on one of the Macs (indesign cs6), some of the text has re flowed differently to the original indesign file.
Fonts are all the same and we're running Extensis Fusion.
I'm tearing my hair out now. Adobe phone help was a dire experience.ure to show the difference in leading or height.
I enclose a picture.

The first question is are all the Macs using CS6, and are they all pathced to 8.0.1?

  • Why does text show differently (vertical alignment) when viewed on a PC than on a Mac?

The text shows misaligned (different) when viewed on different platforms (Mac or PC)
The Menu section on this website ~> Menu
Is there a way around this or a fix it. I was trying to look at the code in Dreamweaver and I did see some weird (>Span<) tags, I'm wondering if it might have to do with it.
The goal is to align the right side (prices) perfectly. I even had to do the 'tracking' individually to every line. It does work, depending on what platform I'm working on, if I work and publish from a Mac, it would look fine no matter what browser I use, but when viewed on a PC the text gets misaligned. The same happens if I work and publish from a PC, it would show misaligned on a Mac.
Hope there is a reasonable explanation for this.
    - Thank you,
    Ricardo

The primary cause of the misalignment is the fact the text is using a "Web Safe" font. A "web safe" font is not a single font. Rather it's a list/stack of fonts for the site visitor's browser to try until it finds one that's available the visitor's computer. That means on one computer the text is in one font (i.e. Arial) and on another computer it's another (i.e. Helvetica) with the subsequent fallout caused by the varying character widths between the two fonts. The best way to reduce this variation between site viewers is to use a Web Font (either an Edge Web Font or a Self-Hosted Web Font).
The alignment still won't be entirely consistent across browsers (or even versions of browsers), because each browser has it's own text layout engine and the engines do sometime change, but the variation will be radically reduced.

  • TS2516 Why does text disappear from some of the pages?  No matter what I do, to include reviewing spelling, the text will disappear in preview mode.

Why does text disappear from the pages in my iPhoto book project?  When I try to buy the book, it comes up with spelling errors (which are names that the dictionary doesn't recognize), but even after clicking "ignore", the text disappears when I preview the book.  Even this is inconsistent because the same words appear on other pages.  There is text on other pages that disappear for no apparent reason.  This has become very frustrating and time consuming.

  • Why does PS 7 not recognize Adobe RGB files?

I have an Olympus E-620 DSLR. When I set the color space in the camera to sRGB, after downloading the images, when I click to open them in Photoshop 7, the images are properly identified as sRGB files. When I set the color space in the camera to Adobe RGB, Photoshop does not recognize the format. Please see the picture below.
Question 1: Why does Photoshop not recognize the Adobe RGB files?
Question 2: What can I do to make Photoshop recognize Adobe RGB files?
Question 3: If I assign in Photoshop the Adobe RGB profile to an unrecognized Adobe RGB file, does that even make any sense? Is the "extra data" that Adobe RGB offers compared to sRB even there even if the profile is not recognized in the first place?
I am very grateful for any comments and advice!

    Buko. wrote:
Are you saying that the file is really AdobeRGB and because PS7 is so old its defaulting to sRGB? which is why you are assigning?
Yes...if the file name starts with an underscore _IMG12345 then the image is indeed in Adobe RGB. It's a failure and limitation of the EXIF spec that only allows for two different EXIF tags relating to color space...either sRGB or "unspecified".
Since the camera makers wanted to offer Adobe RGB as a color space choice in camera JPEGs, the underscore was the ONLY way to say whether a file was in sRGB or Adobe RGB. Note that camera JPEGs do NOT have an embedded profiles, just the EXIF tag. And yes, Photoshop 7 is/was too old to understand the Adobe RGB underscore color space.
A lot of stuff has changed (sometimes radically) since that piece of software was released...heck, there wasn't even a Camera Raw until about 9 months AFTER Photoshop 7 was released. Camera Raw 1.0 was released Feb. 19th, 2003, Photoshop 7 was released about April 2002.

  • WHY does the finder insist on rearranging the files in a folder in alphabetical order even when I have selected "none" in the preferences for file organization?

WHY does the finder insist on rearranging the files and/or documents in a folder in alphabetical order even when I have selected "none" in the preferences for file organization? Even after I numbered the documents/folders to keep them in my preferred order, it will still displace them occasionally. This is becoming increasingly frustrating!
Is this a "Pages" issue or "FInder"? The vast majority of documents I use are in Pages, but there are also Numbers, PDFs, jpegs and a few other applications involved. This never happened before I upgraded to Mountain Lion; in Tiger, the documents (mostly Appleworks) and files stayed where I wanted them to be.
I am visually oriented, and prefer to arrange items in a folder in an order that makes them easier for me to access, which is often NOT alphabetical.
Can anyone suggest a solution? Please??
    Thank you.
    Sara

    nbar,
    Thank you for your reply.
However, I do not understand what you mean by "user account." I am the only user, and can find no options for "user" or "guest." The parental controls have always been off, as there are no other people who have access to my computer.
    Frank,
    Thank you for your reply.
All my documents, files and folders are in icon view, Arranged By: none in both view and view options. This arbitrary rearranging does not happen all the time, only when I make a substantial change to one of the documents in the file or folder. I'm not sure what you mean by "column heading."
    MichaelLAX,
    Thank you for your reply.
I know, to my sorrow, that Appleworks does not work with Mountain Lion. I spent at least three months converting approximately 2,000 Appleworks documents to Pages, Numbers, Bento (for databases) and Touchdraw (for drawings). So this is not the problem; but as I said, I did not have this rearranging problem with Appleworks - the icons stayed where I wanted them to be. I still miss the ease and reliability of Appleworks, darn it!
    Frank,
Thank you for your second reply.
I do have the Sort By: in view options as well as in view set to "none."   The finder still insists on rearranging, but only when I have made a substantial change to a document in that file or folder.
    Any futher thoughts?
    xdab,
    Thank you for your reply.
"Are you are using icon view, but for some reason the finder moves files around? is that the problem?"
YES!! This is exactly the problem.
"If this operation is successful then erase the original and rename the new one to the name originally chosen by the user."
This seems like a lot of trouble, especially as I often work on several documents at the same time.
"By the way, the finder has a "clean up by" menu that rearranges icons in one of the standard orders, there are shortcuts that produce the same effect, for example <option><cmd>1 sorts them by name. Is it possible that this shortcut was typed by mistake without you noticing?"
I do know about this "clean up by" option, and avoid it like the plague! So I doubt this is the issue, and I infrequently use keyboard shortcuts like this anyway.
Thanks all who replied. None of the suggestions seem to work, however. Any others out there?
    Regards,
    Sara

  • Why does IE crash when opening a pdf file ?

Why does IE crash when opening a pdf file ?

I think this is done by the browser when it is saving a temporary file and there's already a file with that exact name in the temp folder.

  • Why does reader freeze while opening some pdf files and others open instantaneously?

I use pdf files created from CamScanner and shared from DropBox.  In DropBox, many times (over 50%) while opening the PDF the process freezes and the error message is Adobe Reader is not responding.  If you close the program, and re-open the file, it opens fine.  I have saved these files to my computer and the same issue occurs.  The files are 100-500kb, so I do not think size is the issue.  I have reinstalled Reader (11.1.10) and there is no improvement.

This appears to have reduced the time to load a document.  Thanks Jimb      From: Anubha Goel <[email protected]>

  • Why does elements 11 not recognize nikon nef files

I have been using Elements 11 for quite a while for Canon Raw files with great success. It really works fine for me.
I recently bought a Nikon D300. For some reason Elements 11 will not recognize the Nikon NEF raw files.
    W H Y ? ? ?

    Thank you for your reply.
    Answers to your questions:
I am using Win7 64 bit. Elements 11 has worked just fine until I attempted to process NEF files.
I always copy files to my HD before trying to process any.
How do I check to see if my Camera Raw module is current? EVERY time, regardless of day of the week or time of day, when do the Help/Update thing I ALWAYS  get that message block about website is busy, try again. I'll bet I've tried it over a hundred times over the past two weeks or so. I have a feeling that it can't be that busy for that long. Or, maybe I'm just unlucky, or maybe your server is too small to handle the load.
Needless to say, I am really frustrated with Adobe.
Again, thank you for your reply, and hopefully my answers will provide a solution.

  • Why does text field in InfoPath 2010 show user name with two commas between first name and last?

Here's the problem. I have a text field called Manager in an InfoPath 2010 form that is getting populated by a drop down field called
    Business Unit.
The Business Unit drop-down field is pulling information from
column A in a custom list via a managed data connection. The custom List has two columns:
    Title & Manager.
The Manager column in the custom list is a 'Person or Group' type column.
The Data Connection pulls both the Title, Manager
    (and ID) data.
There is a rule on the Business Unit drop-down field to change the value of the
Manager text field with the Manager data on the custom list. The rule pulls the
Manager information and filters the value to match the
Business Unit on the Data Connection with the Business Unit drop-down
    field value (Main).
The Business Unit drop-down field works great and pulls the value from the custom list, and the rule populates the Manager text field. The problem is that Manager text field shows the name as such:
[smith,, john]. Notice the two commas between the last and first name. There should only be
    one comma!
Anyone have an idea why the text field is appearing with two commas?
    Arnel

    Hi all,
I have a workaround for this. I have an InfoPath 2010 form pulling data from a SP2010 list. The user chooses a System (Business Unit) from the dropdown list and that choice auto populates the associated user (Manager) for that system. I had to
use concatenation, substring before and substring after to display the correct data.
    concat(substring-before(DisplayName, ",, "), ", ", substring-after(DisplayName, ",, "))
DisplayName is the original data for the field. I am able to cut & paste this field into the formula. Therefore, I added a few spaces to separate it from the actually formula for future use.
    Select Insert Function
    Select concat
Select the first link to double-click to insert field
    and then select Insert Function
Select the Text category and choose substring-before
Select the third link to double-click to insert field
    and then select Insert Function
Select the Text category and choose substring-after
Copy and paste your fieldname (in my case DisplayName) in the
    double-click to insert field
parts of the substring-before and substring-after links.
Delete the middle double-click to insert field link
Add quotes, spaces and commas so that they match the following format:
    concat(substring-before(DisplayName, ",, "), ", ", substring-after(DisplayName,
    Translation:
    concat(substring-before(Doe,, John, ",, "), ", ", substring-after(Doe,,
    John, ",, "))
Bring together all of the text before ",," (i.e. Doe) with ", " (comma, space) and all text after ",," (i.e. John).
    It should return
    Doe, John.
I hope this makes sense. I have these instructions with screenshots if you need them, contact me.

  • Why does text/edit leave line spaces when using Oracle?

This question is just not limited to Macbook Pro's I'm sure, but to Text/Edit as a whole. I find Apple's text/edit to very unusable cross-platform. It leaves line spaces when you copy and past code from it to an Oracle environment causing the code to execute incorrectly leaving errors (I deactivated all extra features and chose 'Plain Text'). Also, when you open a text/edit document in Windows the formatting that was used is lost (It shoud keep the formatting without the line spaces like Windows Notepad). For instance, it displays the code on 3 lines (depeneding how much code you have). This is pretty moronic for something that should be simple and usable without much effort.
For people that use both platforms for web design and development, this text/edit is pretty unproductive. I had to search and find one that works, which I shouldn't have to do for something like this. I mean it's just a text/editor. Make it useful for what it is, instead trying to be different on this one. Save that for the other great applicatoins that Apple offers.

Ok so in this example, I add a comma to the first paragraph (left window, circled in red). There is no change to the text flow in this paragraph... but as soon as I type the comma, the paragraph below it reflows, for no apparent reason.
I've tried opening the file in CS5.5, and the same thing happens. (And it's happening throughout the entire 300 page book)
    - in this example, if I delete the comma from the first paragraph, the second paragraph remains changed - ie it doesn't go back to how it was.
Why did Indesign suddenly change the justification setting in the 2nd paragraph?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  • Why parition table is different between S10 3/05 and S10 6/06?

I want to set up RAID 1 (mirroring) using the Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) on my Solaris 10 6/06 x86 machine. I have 2 identical Seagate 40GB HDD's (model ST340016A).
The partition table on the primary disk was already defined by Solaris 10 3/05 OS before I reinstalled the OS (Solaris 10 6/06). The partition table of the primary disk is as follows:
    leopard $ prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c0d0s2
    * /dev/rdsk/c0d0s2 partition map

    * 512 bytes/sector

Now I want to create exactly the same partition table on the secondary disk, but it refuses to match the same partition table to the primary disk. It stills gives 40GB, but the number of cycliners is not the same. Below is the partition table of the secondary disk.

It has 4864 cyclinders not 38771. Why?
You can see the disk dimension is different between these 2 disks. I tried to redefine it to match the primary disk, but it keeps coming back to the different table.
Do you know why the partition table defined by Solaris 10 6/06 differs to what Solaris 10 3/05 had defined? How do I force the parition table to match with the primary disk? Both disks must match so that SVM would work.
Can anyone shed any light as to why it happens? Thank you for your help.

  • Why does text show up as imessage or text whats the difference?

WHY DOES MY TEXT SHOW UP AS IMESSAGE WHICH IS BLUE OR TEXT IS GREEN OTHER TIMES

iMessage is free while the regular green text cost money.  You can text anyone, you can iMessage other iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users.
If you are having iMessages being sent as texts, I would turn off the setting in Messages Setting, "Send as SMS".

We are trying to increase ASM disk space and with respect to it when we are trying to allocate more space this question came across my mind. Now this was previously configured by my previous SA.

    **ASM disk ASM02 based on /dev/dm-14 [253, 14]**
Now, can any one help me in telling why are my LUN's showing different sizes on RAC and also the best way to allocate the space to the disks in the above scenario.
P.S I am fairly new in posting to the OTN. Please excuse if I am not clear with my question.

why you think the space is different between the 2 nodes?
The devices are different, that's ok, dm- is the device mapper name, and several devices will create dm-* like entries, so it's ok to have them different.
When you add a disk, you should follow an approach like:
Present the disk on the storage
Refresh the luns on all the nodes
Create the oracleasm disk on one node
refresh the oracleasm disks on all the nodes
verify the new oracleasm disk is present on all nodes in /dev/oracleasm/disks/*
At this point, you can use asmca or sqlplus in the +ASMn instance to make your asm diskgroup to grow, or create a new disk group

  • Why does wrapping generate different results?

    Hi,
I have a tex box that I am using as a caption for an image. Both the image and caption are laid out in a column of text and both objects use text wrapping for some breathing room from the body text. I would like to create a tad more breathing room under the text box but when I add a pixel to the wrap buffer it causes the body text to move an entire line away. In other locations within the document performing the same action causes the body text to move away from the text box incrementally in direct correspondence with the added buffer values.
Why does increasing the wrap buffer sometimes cause the body text to jump an entire line away and sometimes just inch away one pixel at a time?
    Thanks,
    b

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
I uploaded a .pdf that includes callouts to explain what I am asking.
If I understand what you are saying, the example I cite where the text moves one pixel at a time derives from the fact that the wrapped object is located at the top of the column, whereas when the text jumps an entire line it is because the wrapped object is below the first line of body text.Correct?
Is there a workaround you can think of? Split the text frames so the object is at the top of the column? modify the leading slug or baseline grid behaviors somehow?

    thanks again.
