WHY DOES "tHE cONNECTION WAS RESET" keep me out of Netflix?

Every time I try to go to Netflix I get "The connection to the server was reset while page was loading.I don't have any trouble going to other websites. Iv tried Google,Internet Explorer and others and I get the same thing.Sometimes I can get to the login part at Netflix then I get "The connection to the server was reset while page was loading".I called Netflix and I was told nothing is wrong on their end. I dont know much about computers, dont own one.Use the computer at work. So there might be alot I dont know. Any help would be appreciated.

hello JoeHenry, you're using a very outdated version of the browser. please first [https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/update/ update firefox to the latest version] as soon as possible and [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ bring your plugins up to date] (some of them are out-dated & have security vulnerabilities that are actively exploited on the web), and see if this can already address the problem...

  • "The connection was reset" only in Firefox - why?

I have a site that consistently gives "The connection was reset" every three or four clicks. Refreshing brings the page up fine. Server logs show no errors whatsoever, the hits all show 200 responses with no errors logged by back-end code. This only happens in Firefox. IE, Safari, Opera all work fine.
I've tried clearing cache, cookies, etc.
    I've tried reinstalling Firefox.
I've tried reinstalling an older version of Firefox in case it's a recent bug.
    I've tried disabling DNS prefetching.
I've tried just about every other remedy I can find on the internet.
Is there any kind of HTML or JavaScript that would cause the browser to throw a fit for no apparent reason?
    Thanks.

I found this answer on this very site. I had the same issue and it was fixed instantly this way. It still does not answer why it happens though. I expect it will happen again sometime so keep this in the back of your mind for next time it occurs.

  • Most of the time I get The Connection Was Reset. Can someone tell me why this happens?

When I click on Firefox or when browsing or going from one site to the other I get "The connection was reset" then have to click on Try Again.
Can someone tell me why this is happening?
    Thank you.
THE CONNECTION WAS RESET again this morning. I even get this message when I click on the Firefox Icon to get on the net. When for example I download something then it returns me to their site I get The Connection Was Reset. When I uninstall a program and it sends to to their site in order to answer as to why I am uninstalling their program then I get The Connection Was Reset.
Every time this happens I have to click on Try Again and find this to be annoying.
This does not happen once or twice a week, it happen ALL THE TIME.
This morning I went to Safe Mode and followed the instructions on INTERRUPTED OR RESET CONNECTION which tells us what to do but this did not work either.
Would be great if someone was able to let me know what to do in order to prevent this message appearing all the time.

Do not know how to delete this reply. I replied instead of editing my question. I have edited the above now.

  • I keep getting "the connection was reset" etc when logged onto my bank.

When logged on to my bank (business account) and setting up weekly payments I can set up a couple of them but then I get the "the connection was reset" etc error message. If I try to log in again I just keep getting the same message.
Then I have to open up Chrome, log in to the bank, and finish the job with no trouble at all. Generally I prefer to use Firefox; but maybe not for much longer!

Thanks cor-el, I'll give your suggestions a try next week when I have to log into the bank.
Will let you know how I get on; I just hope I won't have to keep on doing it every time!

Also, unable to perform any search using Bing - see message below
I'll be uninstalling Firefox - it's unusable with Windows 7 Ultimate - unless you can fix your problem
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Does your proposed address (don't post it) in fact contain any of these forbidden characters, i.e. accented letters or punctuation signs?
If not it sounds like a glitch at the server end: the first thing to do is to give it a day or so and try again. If it still doesn't work you will have to contact Support.
To contact  iCloud Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support and you may be asked to pay a fee. You can reasonably insist that as it's their problem you shouldn't be charged.

  • The connection was reset + Secure connection failed

Hello, I am using firefox on the web and I keep encountering the same error message that the connection was reset when I try to access webpages. Following the article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1024256 did not solve the problem as it only fixed it for google.com and no other website, however when I hold down shift and reload the page it will reload, sometimes in basic html. Operating in safe mode will bring up these pages in basic text without graphics.
Sometimes, it will instead show the message Secure Connection Failed for trusted websites such as news agencies.
I have disabled my themes and add-ons but the problem still persists.
I woud like some guidance on how to go about fixing this problem. Thanks! :)

Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details" to expand this section.
If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the <b>issuer of the certificate</b>.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

  • Experiencing near-constant the connection was reset error.

For about the last 3 months, I've had two seemingly-related problems: 1] "The connection was reset/interrupted" error; and 2] web pages loading in a primitive, odd-looking form. Both used to occur every once in a while, but now they're near-constant, to the point that doing anything online is at best a struggle and at worst impossible. The error is especially bad: makes it extremely difficult to reach a web page, load it completely, or do anything should I ever get there (searches, clicking links, etc.). Might be even worse with some sites than others, but it's hard to tell-- seems pretty bad wherever I go on the web. As far as I can tell, this started when I was still using Waterfox, and updated to 32.0.3; I recently switched back to Firefox in hopes of escaping it, but found the same thing happening there. I've tried the suggestions given in the forums (like clearing the cache, removing cookies, pressing Shift while reloading, pressing Ctrl + F5 [for Windows], etc.), as well as uninstalling and re-installing Waterfox, but nothing works. Since my own computer skills are modest at best, I've pretty much run out of troubleshooting options at this point. What I'm looking for is a solution to this, rather than just ways of coping with it. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it? Will it be solved by the next Firefox update? And is there another browser you can recommend as a replacement for Firefox? I'm really at the end of my rope here; please help!
As of 02/26/15, still having the same problem. I've tried scanning for malware (didn't find any) and configuring Windows firewall for Firefox (made no difference). I've noticed that there's a more accurate description for what I'm experiencing than the one I originally posted: web pages can rarely finish loading anymore, unless they're very short (and often not even then)-- if I wait for them to do so, the error usually occurs. Some are usable if I stop the loading process before the error shows up, but many (most?) won't work that way (not enough ever makes it onscreen). Seems like this site is largely unaffected, but places like rogerebert.com or TV Tropes are pretty much inaccessible to me now. Is anybody still interested in helping me solve this? Because I'm about ready to give up on Firefox for good at this point. Please save me from resorting to Google Chrome or, god forbid, Internet Explorer!

What security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have? <br>
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program. <br>
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process. <br>

Re: my security software: I use Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials (also Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, if that helps).
I've now tried the above link's instructions for configuring Windows Firewall to allow Firefox access. It may have helped slightly with the error (which seems to be happening a bit less often); however, the primitive-looking-web-page problem is if anything worse, pages are INCREDIBLY slow to load, and the error remains frequent (can't tell if this possible respite is just temporary, or even mere wishful thinking on my part). In any case, though, my original problem hasn't been solved yet.
