Why does the iPad 2 run out of memory

Why does the iPad 2 run out of memory?

First ...read deggie's response. Makes sense - even a computer running a large amount of RAM can run short on memory depending upon the operation you are performing so sometimes you have to do what is available to "clear" the memory.
You can ...close apps and restart the iPad on occasion. You close apps by double tapping the home button to bring up your recent apps in the multitasking tray. Tap and hold down on any of the icons until they all begin to wiggle. Then tap the minus signs in the corner of the apps to close them. Close all of your apps in that area. Also take note of how many apps are down there. That may have something to do with why the iPad is running out of memory. Tap the home button twice to return to the home screen. Then restart your iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut off. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If you do this once in a while, it may make a difference in how your iPad performs. In any event, it will not hurt anything.

Why does my ipad black out and give message "Temperature" - Ipad needs to cool down... when it is not physically hot?  Sometimes it will do it every 5 minutes.  Can anyone help?  Feeling frustrated.

Have you tried a device reset?
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
If that has no effect, it's sounds like it could be a hardware issue if the iPad is not even hot. If it's still under warranty and you have an Apple Store nearby, I would set up a Genius Bar appointment to have it evaluated.

  • Why does the iPad Mini not have music play count?

I bought an iPad Mini and also have a macbook. I had listened to various music on my iPad Mini the other day, however when I connected the iPad Mini to the Macbook and iTunes via the lightning connector to sync, it synced the ratings I gave the songs I listened to on the mini, but no play count, as if I had not listened to anything. I hope there is something I can do about this as I often look at my play count!!

It should work work but these kind of bugs pop up between updates, both hardware and software. Try closing all apps in the recently used list on the iPad. Double tap the Home button, tap and hold one of the icons at the bottom till they wiggle then tap the to close them. Tap the Home button to get back to the Home screen then hold the sleep button till you see the slide to power off message. Once it has powered down completely hold the Sleep button till the Apple icon appears.

    Does it even really matter...?
Many people including myself rely on playcounts to control smart playlist to manage large libraries. Smart playlists can be created to show your most or least played tracks and used more or less as your favorites or other uses. Along with playcounts the date is transferred so to keep a fresh list of music on my smaller iPods a smart playlist set to songs not played in the last month keeps some fresh tunes on it.
Playcounts are also used to manage Podcasts in iTunes to delete older episode. Bookmarks, which can also be effected by this, can mess up audiobooks, movies and podcast playback between different devices. So yes, it does matter.

  • Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???

Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???
I would expect that it would make an unusual noise if plugged into a generic USB charger that does not have enough oomph to charge a pad to alert you - otherwise, you might think the noise is reassuring that you are actually charging it.

I guess my question was actually more of a comment on the (lack of) design!  It is unusual that something like this would still be in an Apple product.  There are wall chargers that have a USB port on them that do not have the required oomph to charge the iPad.  I have one that has two USB ports, one for my iPhone  (it won't charge an iPad), and one for an iPad with greater amperage rating.  I accidentally used the wrong ones for a while yesterday, but noticed before being "surprised" the next morning by an uncharged iPad.  The iPad is smart enough to say "Not charging" by the battery icon when it is plugges in to one of these, so it "knows" - seems like it would be fairly simply to have the iPad make a different or additional noise  wehn it puts up the "Not charging" text icon.  Failsafe user experience?

Why does the iPad not support flash player? I would like to watch programming from att uverse but cannot because of this restriction

Because NOTHING that is iOS supports Flash. Never has never will.
The only possible option is to try the Skyfire browser from the App store. It is an internet browser that converts flash to HTML 5 so that you can attempt to view it on iOS devices.
I have never tried it so I can tell you if it is any good, but it has gotten decent reviews.

  • Does the ipad run faster/slower with verizon 4g or 4g wifi without the verizon 4g option

I'm looking at purchasing my first iPad and I'm not sure if it's worth spending the extra money to get the wifi and wireless or would it be just as fast to get the wifi version and use my 4g mifi card from Verizon?

What will you use the 4g for? Do you travel often for work, go to very remote places? Why do you have mifi? Do you use your mifi with your phone on a regular basis? Can you use it for your phone and ipad? And don't you pay for mifi on a monthly basis even if you rarely use it? With 4g, you pay on a monthly basis so you might only need to do that a few times a year during the months you use it. I would call Verizon and find out. And I'm sure you're aware that they're always trying to sell you on spending more money so be careful how you word your questions.
I quickly googled the mifi question and saw this article. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/why-i-ordered-a-wi-fi-only-ipad/12470. Please read the comments to the article, too. Some agreed with the writer, while others had very different opinions. If you google your question, you'll get many opinions from professional tech people, users, and former users of 3g and 4g. This might help you make a decision.
We got our first ipad, (64gb ipad 2 wi-fi only) for my husband in June and one of my sons got the same today. Both are refurbs from the Apple online store. They come with brand new outer shell, brand new battery, and full one year warranty (other places that sell refurbs probably do not refresh their refurbs as Apple does, so if you go refurb, use the Apple online store. They're great! We saved a lot of money, even with the 64gb. (I know people love their new ipads, but this way we didn't have to deal with the possible overheating, yellow hue on screens, etc. We did not get 3g because if we are somewhere and need 3g, we all have phones that we can use. And though we won't get Siri on ipad 2 when it comes out, we don't care about it - just enjoying the freedom of 64gb, etc.
So, I suggest you evaluate your needs, check with Verizon, and google your questions. I'm sure you'll make the decision that is best for you!
At any rate, enjoy your first ipad! We think you'll love it!

Forgot to tell you -- to answer your question - I have no idea if the ipad runs faster or slower with or without 4g! (Verizon would probably tell you faster because they'll make more money, so I suggest you also google that.)
    Hope this helps!

  • Why does the ipad 2 speaker stopped working after upgrading to ios 8

WWhy does the iPad 2 speaker stopped working after upgrading to ios 8 why plz respond

    Hi A_S85,
It appears your iPhone has an issue relating to sound. The following article may help you find a solution:
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker - Apple Support
Can't hear anything from the built-in speaker of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Maybe you can hear, but the sound is distorted, muffled, intermittent. Or maybe you hear static or crackling noises. If your iOS device has any of these issues, follow these steps.
Follow these steps and test the sound after each one.
Go to Settings > Sounds and drag the Ringer And Alerts slider to turn the volume up.
If you can hear sound from the speaker, then the speaker works. Continue with these steps to find the setting or switch that's affecting the sound. If you can't hear sound from the speaker, contact Apple Support.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is set to ring. If you can see orange, it's set to silent.
    Restart your device.
Open an app that has music or sound effects. Adjust the volume with the volume buttons or the slider in Control Center.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn off Bluetooth.
If there's still no sound, connect a headset. If you can hear sound through the headset, remove it and clear any dust or debris from the headset jack of your device.
If the device is in a case, make sure that the case doesn't block the speaker.
Use a brush to gently clear any debris from the speaker and Lightning connector (or 30-pin dock connector). The brush should be clean and dry and have soft bristles.
Update your device to the latest version of iOS.
If you followed these steps and still hear no sound or distorted sound, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Bobby_D

  • How does the iPad provide Random Access Memory?

Is all the RAM on the chip?  Does it use free space as scratch?  The specs only speak about the CPU for computing power.
My wife's medical practice is using iPads for Electronic Health Records, and this is a new system transitioning from paper.  It is a cloud based software called Athena, and I suspect that their problems stem from inadequate memory (RAM or possibly even vRAM). They experience freezes and being "kicked out" of forms while entering information which requires them to reenter the information. This is a big drag on time for her staff.
These problems are less frequent when they use their Windows based laptops, and performance is even better when they use their desktop work stations. I don't know the specs on these computers. However, she experiences no problems when using her Macbook Pro which is a 2007 2.6 core2duo with 4GB of RAM. This is what leads me to the conclusion that it's a memory issue.
I don't know for sure because I'm getting my info second hand, but I think the iPads have the A7 chip.
Thanks for any insight you may have on how this works.
    DLS

Here's the spec sheet on the iPad Air. It has 1GB RAM.
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ipad/specs/apple-ipad-air-1st-gen-a1474-wi -fi-only-specs.html
The comparison with a laptop or desktop with 4GB ram is not a fair comparison. All open apps use some of the available RAM. So close the iPad apps that are not being used.
iPad running slow? How to speed up a slow iPad
    http://appletoolbox.com/2012/07/ipad-running-slow-how-to-speed-up-a-slow-ipad/
If You Think iOS 7 Feels Slow Here’s How to Speed It Up
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Why does the iPad AppStore not show sub categories ?

I always search around on my iPhone and come across a new app but on the iPad you can only see featured apps, is there a reason why it is like this, why we can't browse apps like on the iPhone.

Dude why do you have to be a nub? You know what he means. Don't suggest using your computer to search. That is ignorant. The whole point in getting a iPad is to replace using a computer for easy day to day usage. Especially in this case. Searching the iPad app store is a joke. I been messing around with this thing for a hour trying to do stuff that takes seconds on my iPhone. There is they key statement. iPhone! Can you say iPhone? The iPhone has a superior search function to the iPad. There is absolutely positively no reason get go sit at my computer to search apps when I can do everything I want from the comfort of my bed on my iPhone at night. So apple got it right on the iPhone but dropped the ball on the iPad app store. Sure I can search from my iPhone but I want to search iPad specific apps in the RPG games category. Is that to much to ask? The iPhone already does it so don't say goto your computer. I have bought a ton of games I didn't even know I wanted by searching sub categories on my iPhone. I'd like to think this was a oversight that will be fixed but looking at older post it seems this has been the case for awhile, so it leads me to believe there is some evil pay apple to get yours apps featured thing going on.
