Why does the Safari window sometimes open with a 1/4 inch gap along the bottom when the desktop shows through?

I am using a 15 inch Macbook Pro i7 2.66 GHZ. 8 GB ram. 500 GB hard drive. OS 10.6.8. All updates are done on a regular basis.
Sometimes when I open Safari the window leaves a small 1/4 inch gap along the bottom. In this gap you can see the desktop. This is instead of the Safari window taking up the entire screen. When you click on the green button on the top left then it will open in the entire screen and the 1/4 inch gap is gone. This does not happen all the time but is annoying and I don't feel it should be happening. Does anyone know the solution so this stops happening and has anyone else ran into this?

it's the space for your dock. if your mouse enters that area, the dock will appear. if the window just went to the bottom, it would always initiate the dock whenever you had your mouse at the bottom of the conent window. This is un intuitive and I'm sure apple did this so you wouldn't initiate the dock.
This has become more intuitive in Lion and the dock pops up when you're at the absolute bottom of the page. which is what Sig and myself are both using.
I've also noticed it will adjust the window to the content. are the pages you're going to small in content and therefore wouldn't stretch all the way to the bottom of your screen? like a login page or a splash page? I have notice maximize will adjust the width of the window to ASC even after I had it taking up the whole screen before toggling the green button. Hope this helps!

Why does the coversheet show in Acrobat Pro 9?

This may have been answered before...I just haven't found it.

Why does the 'For the best experience..." coversheet show in documents that I have inserted pages to?
I do everything with Acrobat Pro 9.
it is frustrating to not be able to access these documents.

Without seeing the form it would be pretty hard to tell beyond what was stated.
Are any of the users using a mobile device to fill in the form?
It is possible the non-Adobe mobile users are manually adding up the fields and entering the string currency symbols and thousand separators, either of which could cause this error.

HT2478 Why does the desktop photo application rotate my photos 90 degrees?

I have attached an image. The folder my photos are stored in is located below the Desktop and Screensaver app.
Notice that the orange arrows point from photos that are properly oriented in the folder they are saved in, but for some reason they are rotated when the desktop app pulls them up.
Does anyone know why this happening and how I can correct it?

That's one of the "Features" of iPhoto, it tags photos as rotared instead of actually rotating them, many other Apps will not recognize the tag & display them as they really are stored.

The upper part of the page is not opaque, and the desktop shows through. Thus, the menu bar is hard to read. How to remedy this?

The area behind the menu bar and the line above it, all the way across to the minimize, maximize and close icons is not opaque and the desktop and desktop icons show through. There is nothing I can find in Firefox Help to change this. Also, it would be nice if the menu bar could be made larger and more visible -- and if I could delete "Yahoo!" from the menu bar, leaving just the important items (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help). Any suggestions?

Today my son was logged into his Windows 7 login, and tried to install the plug-in from PageRage.com which adds to his Firefox (8.0.1). When it restarted his Firefox browser it opened my Firefox instead, with my tabs, bookmarks, persona, everything. The plug-in shows up in my add-on on my Firefox. I closed it and reopened Firefox from his quick launch button and his opened up, but the add-on was not there. How can I stop my Firefox from opening on other users on my computer, and keep his add-ons on his Firefox?

Are you using the same Windows account?
Are you using the profile manager to start Firefox with a specific profile or do you use desktop shortcuts to start Firefox with a specific profile?
In that case Firefox may have opened the profile that is selected as the last used profile in the Profiles Manager (profiles.ini -> Default=1)

Why does my track window keep opening up when I don't press anything on the keyboard, followed by logic crashing?

After five minutes of opening up logic the computer will start opening up the new track window followed by a new time signature window, this is an infinite loop that normally ends up with logic crashing. The problem started after plugging in my Yamaha psr-280 into the keyboard I've unplugged it but this seems to make no difference. Help??

Why does my Safari block out content with random blocks of white?

I upgraded my mid-2008 Macbook Pro this week. I went from the last non-unibody model to a Retina MBP 15". I did not move my old computer over, however: I am simply installing apps and moving docs as needed.
I mention all of this because I am encountering a strange issue in Safari: as I browse, my screen will beome covered with blocks of blank white squares. Here's a recent example from GMail:
As you can see, the content beneath the white square begins to show itself as I pass the cursor over certain aspects of the page.
This does not happen exclusively in GMail. I've seen it across my web browsing. It also occurs in text windows: as I type, the most recent word will sometimes disappear -- it's still there, but I can't see it unless I pass my mouse over it.
Any clues as to what could be causing this? This was not a problem I had on my old Macbook. I am guessing and hoping that it's software, not hardware, related.
I am on Safari 6.0.2 and OS X 10.8.2.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Why does the pinwheel show

The little pinwheel keeps popping up on my screen and is slowing down jumping from one program or website to another. Any thing I should be checking for?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try the action that you're having trouble with again. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

Why does the project show src.shared. project-name

I am using eclipse IDE.
The project was created not by me. This project (P) has 3 other projects in its project structure.
src.shared.<project-i> (where i = 1 to 3)
What does this mean?
If am re-creating the above project(P), by adding the 3 jar files for the 3 projects {src.shared.<project-i> (where i = 1 to 3)}

Why does the menus show over my airplay video?

After the last atv update (i think) Something weird happens when i try to stream video (from my iphone or beamer) to my tv. The video plays, but the ATV menus is showing on top of it. It does not happen when i mirror my mac with airplay mirroring.
Anyone who knows anything about this?

Does it show like that in iTunes as well?
If so there may be a space at the end of one of the names.
If it is you can fix it by selecting all tracks and doing a multiple edit to make the artist name the same across all of them.
Let me know if that fixes it.

Why does the drive shows 55.39GB but samba share of the drive shows 31.31GB

Hello,
I've got a mac book pro late-2007 2.2GHz 100GB drive with lion installed. I just freed up a ton of space totaling 55.39GB of space according to Finder on the macbook pro itself. I go to mount it via smb/afp (tried both) and the drive appears with only 31GB of space. What happened here?
I need all 55GB of space.
Please advise.

It sounds like you have a partitioned harddrive with at least two partitions and Samba is reporting the space remaining on It's partition? Possible?

Why does the desktop icon CC Manager say my MUSE CC 2014 is updated when it is not?

In order to upload my website modified files to an external server I am referred to updating Muse so that I have access to In-Browser Editing facility but the CC Manager insists that my version is the fully updated version.

follow the suggestion here, CC desktop lists applications as "Up to Date" when not installed
though what program is suggesting muse is not up to date?

Elements 9 editor screen splits apart and desktop shows through the gap- Help

I run elements 9. on a mac. Never really had a problem before. Today I decided to open a photo from iphoto to edit in photoshop. Neve been a problem
before but now the various panels of the editor screen have split apart and the desktop shows through. The same thing happens when opening a photo from inside the Organiser. Hope someone can help to get it all back together. At the time I was trying to design some Christmas cards.

Thanks so much- I didn't realise it was an option-must have clicked it by mistake. I can see now how it can be used but the project box at the bottom is off the screen.
