Why does this evaluate to true?

Question

I am a little puzzled by this in my code:
int filterBarrier = 100;
if((filterBarrier < 1) || (filterBarrier > 10000)){
System.out.println("The filterBarrier must be between 1 and 10000.");
returnBool = false;
Why does it evaluate to true? I would think that the first condition would make it false and then the second condition would also make it false which would make the if condition to evaluate to false all in all. But the code inside the brackets executes. Can anybody tell me why?

try the following code and create a new java file TestTry.java:
class TestTry
  public static void main(String args[])
   int filterBarrier = 100;
   if((filterBarrier < 1) || (filterBarrier > 10000))
    System.out.println("The filterBarrier must be between 1 and 10000.");
   else
    System.out.println("1111");
}It works as expected printing "1111" indicating that there is nothing wrong with Java as expected.
Unless this is not the exact order of ur code execution, meaning, setting of filterBarrier variable and then the if-else condition immediately, there is no way this can fail.
Otherwise, you must be setting filterBarrier to some different value between the initialization of filterBarrier variable to 100 and execution of if statement.
