Why does typing in "file:///Users/ (admin name)/Desktop" reveal contents of a personal nature from my computer? Can't anyone from any other computer get this info. from my computer by doing the same thing?

I'm concerned that if someone else on a different computer typed in this info. (only requiring my computer's user name) that he would have access to contents on my desktop. I am running Mac OSX 10.6.5.

If someone on another computer would type that address in the location bar that they would open a local page on their computer, but probably get an alert that the page doesn't exist because their user name is different. You can only access pages on another computer if a server running on that computer makes them available and then you need to use the http:// protocol. Using the file:// protocol will always be limited to the computer on which you issue the command.

One thing to try/check - in System Preferences, General. Check the box "Close windows..."

The direct "copy and paste" from the post did not work: I had to retype it :
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
but then it worked like a charm!

And btw: I turned on the "-v" option for the lsregister to see, what was going on, and saw plenty of error messages (error -10811); so I repeated the command with "sudo". After that I still saw five iPhotos. Repeating as regular user finally got rid of the redundant iPhoto entries. It looks like registering as super user may be causing this trouble.

My computer comes on but with the loading bar under the apple logo. The bar only loads partially and then the computer shuts off. I've tried turning it on again more than 5 times and the same thing happens. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is there any way of getting a 7th Gen iPod Nano to sync the same as older generaqtions

I have two problems with my new iPod Nano (7th Gen).
1. When synced, artwork either isn't loaded at all or the wrong artwork is loaded against the wrong artist.
2. When I play an album the songs are not played in the correct order, but shuffled automatically.
Can anybody suggest answeres to sorting these issues?
Frankly, if not, the 7th Gen Ipod is a serious regression - it feels more like a very old mp3 player!

The songs are still on her ipod.
They should transfer ok but make sure and use the same Apple ID that was used for the original purchase.
Connect the iPod to a computer, launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar click File > Transfer Purchases From...
Make sure and backup the iTunes purchases > How to back up your media in iTunes

It is probably because you are not properly closing Firefox. Restarting your system would make sure that Firefox had terminated, but you do not have to do that.
To properly close Firefox on Windows systems, use
:File > Exit or "Firefox:" button > Exit
When you get the message "Firefox is already running" it is too late, and you must force termination of Firefox through the Windows Task Manager before restarting Firefox. Windows 7 has a keyboard shortcut to save you a step "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" then on "Processes" tab, select "firefox.exe" and use the "End Process" button. More thorough would be to right-click on the "firefox.exec" and choose "End Process Tree".
You would find firefox.exe in a Mozilla folder in your program files, but y0u would not want to delete it there, you would need to use the Control Panel which you have already identified and do it from there -- but generally you would not need to do that, and there is nothing in what you have posted to indicate that you should. But if you did do that, then don't let the install start Firefox for you as you would want to use you existing desktop icon or method of starting Firefox, and should decline having Firefox install start Firefox for you. When the install starts then invoke Firefox in your normal manner. This should eliminate problems of creating a new profile rather than using your old profile.

Ive downloaded the latest version of itunes and now i cant open itunes. it says im missing something but when i go to download it again just to be safe it keeps saying the same thing and i cant open my itunes anymore

I cant open my itunes. it said i needed to download the 10.5.2 version to be able to upload the songs to my new ipod (touch) and when i went to do that my itunes wont open at all. me and my mom tried everything. i even went on my brothers account to get at least some songs and his did the same thing even though i didnt download it to the newest version. after i downloaded the lastest version and tried to open my itunes it said it was missing something so i went and downloaded it again. i know that was probably bad to do but i didnt know what else to do. even though i went and did that it keeps saying that im missing something. i dont know what to do to get my itunes to work again and if ill have to redownload all my songs and videos again.

Plug your iPod into your computer, it will begin to sync. Now check to see if the playlists have been added.
If not, go to the songs tab under your iPod when it is connected to iTunes, Unless you have checked "Sync all songs (or something to those words)" you should have an option on what you can put on your iPod. Make sure to check the playlists that you want on your iPod.

My iPad got disabled and once I waited the 15 minutes I logged in, but from then on I could not connect to server dispite having 2-3 bars of wifi signal. The same thing happened to my iphone5 at the same time although this had not been touched by my 3yr olds. My wifi is very intermittent and often it goes from 3g to GPRS on my iphone. I have reset network settings, turned devices off by home button and off button, removed sim card in phone, etc. I'm stuck.

There are two ends to a wifi network. Try rebooting your router.
