Why does v31.0 claim that it requires High Perf GPU on my MacBook Pro with Mavericks OS?

According to Activity Monitor, a utility that is part of Mavericks, Thunderbird requires the High Performance GPU on my MacBook Pro - it's the only program I run all the time that does. I think this is a new problem with this version and suspect it is a cause of increased battery drain.

Thank you. I've been through the steps, my memory usage appears to be quite normal. There was a suggestion to try a beta version but the only betas I can find are all older than the current version I have.
I also run Firefox 31.0 (with similar add-ons) and that does not exhibit the GPU problem at all.
The bug appears to be raised here: [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=689742 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=689742] . It starts life as an issue on OS X and turns into a fix for Windows. If it is the issue I'm seeing It doesn't fix OS X.

Hi. Because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Photoshop General Discussion forum.

Any OS version of 10.8.4 or later has all features that are not OS depended. The plugins are one example. You probably haven't updated all versions of Logic Pro X to the latest one.

  • HT4152 I can't see the "Requires High Perf GPU" column in the Energy tab of Activity Monitor

Trying to debug Android OpenGL error in IDEA, so I need to check out graphics card info, but following this link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4152?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US (Mavericks), I can't see that column, nor can I find a way to turn it on.

Probably your MacBook Pro has only got one GPU, which is the integrated GPU. You can check this by opening System Information (in /Applications/Utilities) and choosing Graphics in the sidebar, so you can see which GPU you have got.
As you have got a MacBook Pro with Retina display, you have an Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Mid 2012 and Early 2013 MacBooks Pro with Retina display, an Intel Iris GPU (Late 2013 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display) or an Intel Iris Pro (Late 2013 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display). Only Mid 2012 15-inch MacBooks Pro with Retina display and the high-end Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina display comes with two GPUs

  • Why does installation cd not work for new hard drive for 2009 MacBook pro?

my hard drive died in my 2009 MacBook pro so I bought a 1tb ssd drive and had the store physically install the drive only.   I arrived home and stuck in the original installation disc and pressed and held the c key after the chime. Nothing happened. after a minute or so the screen turned black and rebooted up again with the chime.  It would continue to reboot whether I pressed the c key or not. when i pressed the d key it would say:
"Apple hardware test does not support this machine"
why why isn't this working like it is supposed to?
    thsnks

    Ryan,
Have you tried using the Startup Manager (holding down the option key) whilst booting? If everything works as it should, you should be given the option to choose the DVD to boot. Holding down the 'D' key should load the Apple Hardware Test.
    Good luck,

  • Can I/How do I get rid of a virus that a Divx download (I think) infected my MacBook Pro with?

I downloaded some version of a Divx player. Shortly after that I began receiving multiple pop-ups from both browsers - Google Crome and Safari. This happens every time I click on something to go to a new page. My shockwave has been crashing and any video I watch lags behind. There are also little video ads on most sites I go to that I know are not sponsored by the site. I've tried to delete/uninstall everything relating to Divx, but no such luck. Maybe I locating the right file to delete. I would like to find a way of getting rid of this first before I have to restore the MacBook Pro to factory condition. Any HELP would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.

This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.

  • MacBook Pro with Mavericks OS does not boot

I have old macbook pro 2009. I upgraded the OS to Mavericks some months ago. It was running nicely till yesterday when electricity cut & there is no battery. I tried to restart it again but it does not boot. When I press the power button. It lights up & gives the starting tone, then a progress bar appears it takes about 20 minutes for the progress bar to complete. After the progress bar is completed, the computer shuts down.
I tried to press the option key during boot. I got some options: time machine ... Disk utility. I pressed on Disk utility. Disk was verified, it was ok. I tried to boot from external disc I previously prepared by ccc (carbon copy cloner) but ccc does not appear in the items of Disk utilities. Restore also failed. Now, I am downloading a OS X Mavericks which will take some hours. Would it be helpful or I need to do something else?

  • Why does my DVI to S Video adapter not work on my Macbook Pro since installing Snow Leopard?

The Apple DVI to S Video Adapter worked before installing Snow Leopard.  Now I just get a blue screen.

.wpl appears to be a Windows Media Player playlist. I can find no conversion software for that, and Windows Media Player is not available for Mac anymore.
If you can persuade him to download iTunes and create the playlist as mp3 in a iTunes playlist, or even just burn the base mp3 files to CD as a data disc, that's about the only solutions I can suggest.

  • Why does iMessage continue to make sounds and display banners on my Macbook Pro (Retina) even though I have removed it from my notification center?

I hate that my messages pop up while I'm watching Netflix, and I have finally removed Messages from my notification center. Yet, for some reason i still keep hearing the noise that lets me know I have a message, and I a still seeing badges pop up on my screen every time a new message comes in? What's the deal?

I talked to Apple Support and we at least stopped the bleeding, a little bit. These are the troubleshooting steps I did before I contacted Apple Support:
    1. Reinstalled OSX
    2. Restore the last known good Time Machine Backup.
This did not fix my issue, so I called Apple Support and they told me this:
    1. Turn Power off.
    2. Wait 15 seconds.
    3. Plug in Magsafe adapter.
    4. Wait 15 seconds.
    5. Hold down the Shift+Option+Power Button for 20-30 seconds.
    6. Turn Power back on.
Ok, this stopped the bleeding a little, but as soon as I plugged in a Apple USB Superdrive
and a Apple Mini Displayport to VGA Adapter. This "USB Devices Disabled" pop-up pops up like every 30 minutes now. At least, it is not constantly popping up after I close it, so I guess it will do for the temporary. Going to contact Apple support, later, though to see what else can be done.

  • Why does it look really bad quality when i plug my 13in macbook pro to my 42in samsung tv?

i bought this rocketfish hdmi cable to plug my 13in mac pro to my samsung plasma tv so i can watch netflix and youtube..and for some reason the picture quality is really bad. everyone says it looks great in theirs but why not mine? i put it at the highest resolution which is 1080i. Can i get any help??

it should be 1080p unless your's is only i
netflix and youtube need to have the best picture turned on for it to look good. Some are in 1080p but other only max out at 240p.
if you are in mirror mode, you are unable to change the screen size to the tv independently of the mbp.
What you should try to do is see if you have mirror mode turned on in system preferences> display>arrangement.

  • Why does it take an hour to download 140 mb on a macbook pro?

I recently purchased the macbook pro with retina and now when I try to download files from the internet it takes 40+ plus minutes. I'm downloading small, less than 140 mb files. On my old macbook from 2008 it would take a few minutes. I did not pay 4,000 dollars to downgrade what is going on

How are you connected to the internet?  Check with your isp to determine if the slowness is on their end and you can also check your speed on the Speedtest website.

Then you are still under warranty.
    Call Apple Care.

#3 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.

  • Why does caps lock light remains on when I turn off my macbook pro?

I had a problem recently come up with my MacBook Pro Early 2011 15 inch 2.0 ghz computer. The the caps lock light initiates at boot up. When I depress caps lock the light goes off but then only allows capital letters.  All sybols associtated with depressing the cap button such as the "at" sign are screwed up.  When I turn my computer off with safe mag attached, the caps light remains on. When I remove the safe mag, the caps light goes off.  Any clues as to what is going on?
Thank you for your inputs ahead of time.
