Why does Yahoo open when I pick a category in Firefox?

Say I type "Macys" in the search box. What comes up is Yahoo that gives all the listings for "Macys".
This happens for any category I place in the search box.
This hasn't happened before. What's up?

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

Becasue you have not set your preferences in itunes to open when a device is connected and you have set iphoto to open when a digital camera is connected.

I have been a happy user of Firefox for many years. Around last April first I opened Firefox and was offered an update to v 4.42.0.0 which I accepted. Installation seemingly went well. I forget now exactly what happened but the result has been that ever since April 1 I haven’t been able to open the Firefox browser when clicking on the Firefox icon. My computer now was running very slowly. I tried to uninstall Firefox, but a popup told me I couldn’t because Firefox was in use. This confused me because I couldn’t see it being used. Only now I have found that on Task Manager processes that “firefox.exe” was consuming 99 % of the CPU. After removing firefox.exe by clicking End Process my computer ran better. I uninstalled Firefox I had on my computer and installed Firefox 5.0. Unfortunately I have the same problems: Firefox does not open when clicking on the icon, the firefox.exe process consumes 99 % of the CPU and my computer runs slowly.

I was unable to start in safe mode initially. The second time I disabled all of the Add-Ons and she started up just fine. I enabled them one by one hoping to track down the culprit but the problem seems to have gone away.
BTW I am running ver. 3.6.8 (in response to cor-el's earlier post) and
Firefox is in the process of downloading 3.6.10 (which I am starting to think may have been what caused this whole problem to begin with)
Incidentally, whats up with all of the Java Console Add Ons?
I have:
Java Console 6.0.11, Java Console 6.0.13, Java Console 6.0.15
Java Console 6.0.17, Java Console 6.0.20, and Java Console 6.0.21
What are they? Do I need them? Can I uninstall them? Is this due to using Open Office?
Also, .NET Framework 0.0.0 Should I uninstall it?

Why does subVI open when a VI is run without highlighting execution

When running the VI Proc Recipe Array without highlighting execution the subVI VPTS Proc Cmnd gets a green arrow over its icon and opens. I want to run the main VI without opening any of the subs. Why does that subVI open? All sub are in the attached LIB file and the test file needed is also attached. You should place the input file in the C:\VPTS\Recipe folder.

This is because the SubVI VPTS Proc Cmnd has an option "Suspend when called".
To cancel this
1.open the subVI,
2.click with the right mouse button on the subVI icon in the up-right corner of the window,
3.select "VI properties...",
4.choose category - Execution
5.and uncheck the option "Suspend when called".

Hi,
By default the first thing the Messages app asks you to do is enter an Apple ID to use for the iMessages account.
You can ignore this and use the set up to add other accounts (or use the System Preferences > Internet Accounts to enable them).
If it is not already, I would go to Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts and in the iMessages account untick the box for "Enable this Account" even if it does not have an Apple ID.

Ever since I started using Photoshop CS5 in 64-bit, I noticed that every time I double click to open a .TIFF file in Bridge, Firefox opens and puts the image file name in the address bar. Photoshop continues to open also, but why is Firefox opening? I have already changed in the Tools>Options>Applications so that image/tiff files open in PS CS5. So why does Firefox open?

What's the file association set to for the TIFF extension in the Windows Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types ?

Why does Mail open when it is not my default email client?

I prefer Thunderbird as my mail client and it is set to be my default. However, if I click to send a picture by email, not only does it open up in the TB mail message, OSX Mail also opens along with an empty draft mail message. How do I stop this? I have turned off Mail.

Thanks, John. That is how I already set TB as my default client. I thought I had solved the issue of OSX Mail opening in tandem, but in fact it still does it. Very odd.

I think this is done by the browser when it is saving a temporary file and there's already a file with that exact name in the temp folder.

Do you see the issue every time you close captivate or is it only in some scenarios? Does it show any error messages? What captivate version are you using (64 bit or 32 bit)? Can you provide some more information or screenshots which can help us reproduce the issue.

ITunes does not open when ipod connected

Since installing the 1.1 update, iTunes does not open when I connect my nano to the computer. Both computer and iTunes (when I manually open it) recognize the nano, so no big deal. Just wondering how to make iTunes automatically open.

Sometimes the Preferences get corrupt - if you set them off and then back on that sometimes clears the problem.
