Why does Yahoo Search appear when I open a new tab, when Google is my default homepage?

Ever since I upgraded to 4.0, when I open a new tab the yahoo search page appears, but my homepage is www.google.com.
I have three tabs open at all times on my main foxfire window and always ask to restore them: Yahoo mail (my account), www.imdb.com, and http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/. Anytime I open a new tab http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20110104,6894,0,16,0 appears, but my default homepage is set to www.google.com.
Interestingly, when I open a new window for firefox my default homepage of www.google.com appears, but http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=freeze&type=W3i_NA,132,3_6,Tab%20Search,20110104,6894,0,16,0 appears when I open new tabs.
Why????
Very annoying, but the highest of priorities.
Thanks.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
* Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Firefox, or probably some add-on, has changed what I see when I open a new tab; When I open one, there is a google search that is unwanted there!

    That's pretty much it. The 'new tab page' now also shows a search in Google, even though I never wanted it too! It is unsightly and doesn't help me a bit. If you can help, I would be grateful. Note: I will be gone the next six weeks (without my computer), so take your time in answering. Thank you ahead of time.

    Firefox Changed the New tab style with Tabs & Google Search.
    If you don't like, make it as a classic blank
    *Top Right Corner > Settings > Choose [x] Classic
    or
    Type '''about:config''' in URL and search for
    *'''browser.newtab.url''' and change the value to "mozilla.org"

  • I don't want yahoo search to come up when I open a new tab how do I make it so it does not go to yahoo?

    Before my last upgrade when I opened a new tab it would open to a new window without yahoo or any other page just blank that is what I would like to happen now.

    Did you try opening '''about:config''' and filtering on the url (or part of it) to see if there is a configuration variable involved.
    How did you remove the toolbar and application, did you have to go into the control panel or did an extension sim,ply uninstall..

  • Why does what appears to be odd writing come up when I open a new tab?

    Lately when I open a new tab what appears to oriental writing shows up either beside what ever tab I'm using at the time or it may even go all the way across the new tab bar.

    hi goodatITno, other affected users tied this same issue to the mcafee siteadvisor extension - please try to disable or remove that in case you have it present until there's an update by mcafee which addresses this problem.

  • I have all tabs set to open with Google search, but when I open a new tab and start typing, the letters appear in the address bar and not the Google search bar. It didn't used to be like this!

    Firefox 9.01; Windows 7 64 bit;
    One of my set of home pages is the basic Google search page. When I open this, I can immediately start typing and the words appear in the Google search box.
    If however I open a new tab (white cross far right of tab bar) and start typing, the words appear in the address bar, not in the Google search box. Of course once I click in the search box I can carry on: but I'd like to make it start there as it does with the homepage.

    If you want a specific webpage (like the Google page) to always open when you open a New Tab, you can use the following add-on to Open New Tabs with your Favorite Pages:
    -> NewTabURL 2.2.3
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
    * NewTabURL will not work until you set the page that you want to open in the Options for it.
    * click Add-ons > Extensions, click Options next to NewTabURL.
    Check and tell if its working.
    Not related to your problem but do the following:
    -> Update Firefox to the latest version 10

    -> Update All your Firefox Plugins -> https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

  • I deleted bing as one of my search engine choices, but the bin page still appears when I open a new tab. How do I stop the bing page showing up?

    I clicked on the search engine emblem and then I clicked on the "manage search engines" line. I then deleted bing as a search engine option. However when I open a new tab the bing page appears on my screen. How do I stop this from happening?

    This thread has some solutions:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/762043
    The most straightforward seems to be: hold Ctrl and Left-Click on the Reload button. You could also Middle-click on the Reload button (e.g. "click" with the mouse wheel, if you have a wheel-mouse.) The thread above also has some other options.
    Edit: you could also hold Ctrl and drag a tab next to itself to clone it, another suggestion from the above thread.

  • When I open a new tab it does not bring up my homepage. It brings up another sites search engine page.

    When I click on the new tab button, a small cross, it opens the new tab, but displays another sites search page, not my homepage. I cannot find where to tell it to open my homepage on all new tabs that are opened from the tab bar.

    The basic Firefox build has always opened a blank page when you open a new tab.
    Maybe some add-on you installed modified that feature of Firefox which now opens all tabs in a different page. Here's what you will need to do.
    Open Firefox -> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
    Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. The tabs will now be opening in a blank page. You can Enable the add-ons again and check if its working properly.

  • Why does a Bing seach engine box come up when I open a new tab?

    When I open a new Tab, what used to be a blank page is now a page with a Search the Web box and it is branded "Enhanced by Bing."

    Try disabling or uninstalling the SearchToolbar/1.2 extension and see if that stops.

  • Everytime I open a new tab it comes up with Yahoo, how do I make it so a blank page opens when I open a new tab?

    How do I make it so a blank page opens when I open a new tab?

    I had the same problem, in fact, I'm one of the people who clicked, "I have this problem, too!"
    I used to have blank tabs when I would open them, but I downloaded some shady software that I didn't know had add-ons! I tried the "about:config" method and messed around with some of those things but nothing happened. After deleting and reinstalling firefox it still happened, and after doing a computer wide search of 'Ya' or 'yahoo' it came up empty. That told me it's combined with some other program or it's under a different name completely. When I would open a new tab, the url would come up something like:
    www.click.1.3.yahoo.com/tab_search_000,00.03 blah blah blah. toward the end of the string though, the word "Freeze" appeared. So I went back to my control panel and looked for the word freeze in anything, even as the host site. I FOUND IT! It was some net assistant bug that downloaded off of some other software I had running. Hope this helps some of you!
    -Kayl
    PS. even if your word isnt freeze, it may be something else worth searching in your control panel :)

  • How do I disable the "New Tab opened" button that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?

    Dear Helpful Open Source people.
    I would like to disable the "New Tab opened" that appears for 3secs when I open a new tab?
    I usually open tabs from a search engine's results page expecting the links to be of varying quality. This means that it is efficient to open several links from that page and review and close them sequentially later. A reality of the output of search engines is that your 1st link is sedom the one you want.
    This button clutters an already small phone screen. I've hardly the space to click outside it and move on often clicking it by accident. Waiting prevents me scrolling to click the next link for 3 seconds or worse when I scroll prematurely I accidentally click it and jump to that Tab prematurely. I don't need to be told what I just did. I know... There is a perfectly functional tabs button in Firefox Android that let's me jump to my new tab in less than second with 2 presses when I wish to do so.
    I appreciate that it's "only" 3 seconds and a 1st world problem, but browsers and OS designers aspire to fast customisable function. Maybe there's a way to get rid of this button?
    The button is shown in section 3 of "Open a Link in a New Tab" in this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-tabs-firefox-android
    PS. Mozilla - great work with the Sync function keep developing!!

    For some reason, Android calls that little notification bar a "toast" so that's the new tab toast. It was added in Firefox 12.
    I can't see any preference to suppress it, so I think that would require filing a new bug (request for enhancement). If you feel strongly, I think you are the best person to file it.

  • Updated Firefox, now when I open a new tab, there is two seperate google search bars; how do I get rid of the unnecessary search bar?

    I updated Firefox, and after I restarted it, when I opened a new tab, I found that I now had two Google search bars: one next to where you type web addresses, and one right above my pinned sites (or my frequently visited sites). I'm just trying to:
    1. Figure out why it is necessary to have two of the pretty much identically useful search bars when I really only need one (or can physically type Google in)
    and
    2. How do I get rid of the unnecessary second Google search bar above my frequently visited and therefore pinned sites.
    If you have any ideas of how to remove this annoying addition, I would appreciate it.

    I am guessing that you installed an extension, related to "new tab", which added the first search bar. Firefox 31 in includes a search bar for the "new tab" page; so now you have two.
    Take a look at that extension (Options or Preferences) to see how to disable ones of those 2 search bars. Or see if an update has been released for that extension, specifically for Firefox 31, with an option to disable the search bar.

  • When i open a new tab I can't put in the website I want to access why?

    when I open a new tab it does not give me the option to put in a new web address. I used to have Facebook on Foxfire and I can't get to it to come up on foxfire anymore. It is not even in my history and it was one website I used everyday on Foxfire. I hope you can help so I can get it back on foxfire.

    If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
    * Go to "View > Toolbars" and check-mark "Menu Bar" with a click if you want to make that permanent
    See [[Menu bar is missing]]
    Make sure that all the toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
    * If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
    * If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

  • When I open a new tab, an internet search option pops up that Idid not OK or install. I can't find where to get rid of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    When I open a new tab, I just want it to be blank. I think it may be hijacked but I can't find how to delete/erase the internet search that pops up instead. It's called internet search and just has a magnifying glass as a logo.

    Clearing the cache fixed this for me. Before doing this though, I HIGHLY recommend booting into safe mode (assuming you are using Windows) and run the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php].
    UPDATE: Well...that worked for a while. That page is back. I still recommend scanning your machine if you have not yet done so.
    UPDATE 2: I've found that the application causing the issue is "Cartoonly", which you should see as an extension. You can't remove it from Firefox, you can only disable it. Search your entire computer for "Cartoonly" (even if you have ran MBAM as suggested above) and delete EVERYTHING having to do with that garbage. Your new tabs should be clean and the extension should be gone as well. :)
