Why doesn't "Always accept Cookies" actually always accept cookies?

I have my security setting set to "Always" accept cookies but cookies are not being accepted for iframes and ajax connections.  Shouldn't a setting actually do what it says it does?  I also find it odd that I had cleared my cookies and 20 minutes later I had a bunch of cookies from sites I've never gone to but can't get safari to accept the cookies for the site I'm building.

Mac OS X 10.7.1, Safari 5.1 (German)
It should work like this (I have to translate it into English and hope it looks similar in the English version):
- Always block:
Cookies are stored but are not able to send any information to the website.
I just tested that theory (with 5.0.5) by going to a cookie test site with Security Preferences set to "never," and Safari did not prevent information from being sent.
Incidentally, before I downgraded to 5.0.5, I tested 5.1 (with privacy set to "always block") and 5.1 doesn't block cookies, either.
My solution: Use "block cookies from third parties...", use "resetting Safari" every time you login into Google, Facebook etc. and make sure to check the box "delete all website-data" in the window which appears.
Before cookie-gate, whenever I closed Safari, I manually reset it.   But unfortunately, since cookie-gate, Safari doesn't just ignore cookie settings for me.  It also appears to ignore RSS feed settings and database preferences---and on top of all that, Google Safe Browsing Service stopped working 62 days ago.
That makes me worry what kind of information flashplayer might be gathering.  And who knows what autofill might be giving out?

  • Why doesn't iTunes back up actual Apps from phone?

Lost many frequently used iOS 4.2.1 Apps after a full restore to unlock my 3G.  Backed up phone right before restore but when it came to restoring apps, iTunes insited on trying to restore from updated (post 4.2.1) versions of the apps rather than what was on the phone when I backed it up.  Great for planned obsolescence but bloody awful if you were perfectly happy with your fully serviceable 3G.
How do I get my Apps back?  Especially expensive Tomtom app, Skype for 4.2.1, iBooks

You can download them from your past purchases.
    Open the App Store
Tap on the "Updates" tab in the bottom right corner
Tap "Purchased" at the top of the list
This should show you all the purchased apps.  Search for the ones that you want to downlaod and tap on the cloud icon.  It might be easier to find if you also tap "Not on This iPhone" at the top.
    I hope this helps!

  • Why does FF always open to FF start page every time instead of my homepage/

Every time I open Firefox, the Firefox Start Page opens. I have to put yahoo.com in the address bar to go to yahoo, which is really my homepage. Then I go to Tools, Options and set my homepage as Yahoo. But the next time I open Firefox, it opens to the FF Start page again. Why doesn't it accept my setting?

For Yahoo, I suggest copying the following and pasting it into the Options dialog, General panel, for your home page:
    https://www.yahoo.com/
The reason is that Firefox will need to redirect to that secure page anyway, so it saves a few milliseconds.
After making that change and OKing out of the Options dialog, go back in and confirm that it was saved.
''If Firefox won't let you save a new home page, there may be a problem with one of your settings files, or you might have a malware program named SearchProtect on your system.''
If Firefox lets you save the change, then you should get Yahoo if you do any of these:
    * click the Home icon on the toolbar
    * press Alt+Home on the keyboard
    * launch a new window by pressing Ctrl+n
    Do those work?
If Firefox "forgets" your preferred home page the next time you exit out and start it up again, there are several possible causes. You saw the article cor-el mentioned. It's a bit technical, yes.
In addition to that, some utility programs like Advanced SystemCare and some security suites have a "home page" or "browser" or "surfing" protection feature that will protect you against unwanted browser settings changes. They do it by just rolling back the changes, since they don't have a way to determine what you wanted and what you didn't. You may need to turn off this feature until you have Firefox set up the way you want it and can shut down and start up again without losing your changes.

  • Why won't the "block cookies and other website data" setting work on Safari 7.0.2?

Why doesn't the "block cookies and other website data" setting on Safari 7.0.2 work?  Everytime I try this setting, I still get cookies and other data that needs to be deleted from my computer.

This has been the case for sometime.
There is no effective way to block these cookies.
    Try this, may help.
Safari > Preferences > Security > Cookies and other website data:
Press "Remove All Other Website Data:'
    Do this twice.
Select "Reset Safari" from Safari drop down menu.
Select only "Reset all website data".
    Click "Reset".

  • Why does Safari still accept cookies, even when I put Block Cookies "Always"

Why does Safari still accept cookies, even when I put Block Cookies "Always",? There are always a list of every website with cookies. Is that just a record of what could've been accepted or its a bogus feature that still accepts regardless of what feature is on?

Apple has rolled over users since OS X 10.6.8 when this issue first appeared.
If you want a browser that actually CARES about it's users, then install Firefox, it's the only one that does.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on?

Why does Firefox always block any link I try to open going to a web page when I don't have pop up blocker on? First off they are not even pop ups....your crap blocks everything and don't save user names &/or passwords when you have it checked. Also in your tutorials about solving this issue says it has the word "OPTION" .......no, it never says option to allow you to bypass it and etc. Only thing is says is "ALLOW" . That would be nice , but the problem is it will not allow it from then on. It only allows it right then and then you have to refresh...after that to open again it blocks it again.....HOW STUPID?!!!!!
It always say that this is preventing this page from automatically redirecting to another page. THIS IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO...GO TO ANOTHER PAGE........I DON'T NEED YOUr BROWSERS PERMISSION TO DO THAT. THAT IS WHAT A *%#$&*(&*%$$%% BROWSER IS FOR TO GO TO OTHER PAGES......THEY ARE NOT POP UPS!!!!!
YOU STUPID BROWSER ACTUALLY BLOCKS EVERYTHING AND THAT SUX!!!
    HELP!!

Are you using "Clear history when Firefox closes"?
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear the Cookies
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Clear+Recent+History
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you want to keep.
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Keep until: I close Firefox
You can choose to keep third-party cookies from visited sites if necessary.
Create a cookie 'allow' exception for cookies that you want to keep.
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions

  • Why report is always select statement...

    hi guys,
when we are dragging the columns from Business Area or in any reporting tool, and when we see the SQL, why it gives always select query.
this question is raised by one of my manager having 15+ years of experience in Oracle Apps.
    Any suggestions?

Ok, if I understand it, he wants to know why any query tool uses SQL (ie: select) to display the data.
And the answer is actually really simple - it's the only way to get data from an Oracle database.
That's it ... there's absolutely, positively no other way of getting data back from an Oracle (ie: relational) database.
It doesn't matter if you use Discoverer, Cognos, Brio, Business Objects, Microsoft products via ODBC, etc., everything boils down to a SELECT statement eventually.
So in Discoverer, the workbook / worksheets that you create keep information about the 'presentation' of that data - ie: colors, fonts, titles, graphs, etc. but the retrieval of data will always be in SQL - and as it sounds like you noticed - you can view the SQL in Discoverer if you desire.
Look at it this way - in Discoverer you're saying "go get me AP_Invoice information, where I want the invoice number, the invoice date, the invoice amount, the vendor name, the vendor number, etc. ... and I want the total of the invoice amount when I enter a date range".
That's the coding in Discoverer. The minute you invoke that code - ie: run the worksheet - badda' bing ... badda' boom ... it initiates a SQL command to the Discoverer database tables (via a folder in the EUL) probably something like: select invoice_number, invoice_date, invoice_amount, vendor_name, vendor_number from ap_invoices where invoice_date between '01-JAN-2008' and '03-JAN-2008'.
The Oracle database comes back with the data, dumps it into Discoverer and Discoverer does all the fancy layouts, colors and totals ... and everyone's happy.
So again, the only way to communicate with an Oracle database using ANY TOOL is via SQL (and the SELECT statement is the fundamental way of retrieving data). And for the Oracle Apps guy you mentioned, that includes all the Oracle Apps Forms (screens), Oracle Apps reports, changing user passwords, the concurrent manager ... etc.
It's a SQL Select world when it comes to Oracle!

  • Why does 8X always switch to "Roaming service"?

Hello, I've had my HTC 8X for about a month now, since it came out, and I've noticed something kind of strange. For some reason, under the Cellular menu in the settings, it sometimes says my active network is "Roaming service" instead of Verizon Wireless. It happens pretty often, completely randomly. When I'm it's connected to the Roaming service, my data speeds seem to be slower, and I can't receive picture messages. Nothing else seems to be affected though. I can still send/receive calls and texts, and I still have access to a 3G data network. But why doesn't it stay on Verizon? It wouldn't really bother me much, but when I'm connected to Verizon it seems to be much faster.
I know it's not my coverage, because I haven't had this problem on my previous HTC Trophy, and when I'm connected to Verizon, I have more bars than on Roaming service. Also, I don't live in an LTE covered area, so when on Verizon and Roaming, I'm always on 3G.
And if I'm correct, Verizon and Sprint have a roaming agreement, so when I'm roaming, it's free and on Sprint's network.... just want to make sure I'm not being charged for this at all...
So anyways, how can I fix this? I'd prefer to not have to do a factory reset.... Thanks for any replies!

    Hello cody503,
Thank you for sharing your wireless question with the community. We understand how important it is to have consistent and reliable wireless service! After all, that’s why you chose us as your wireless provider! I would like the opportunity to clarify this for you! As we all know, Verizon Wireless have the largest coverage in the country but there are some areas that our customers roam off another carrier at. When roaming, you may see the verbiage that you spoke of in your post. Since your Verizon Wireless phone is designed to pick up our network over others, you will experience a HUGE difference in network performance. I would like to confirm that the area that you were in is indeed an extended area. May I ask what city, state, and zip code were you in when you got the “roaming service” notice? Can I assume that you device doesn’t have any liquid or physical damage? Once you provide me with this information then I can check the area and get back to you. I’m looking forward to your next reply.
    Thank you…

  • Mail doesn't always open an email message on first try

    Hello Discussion Board,
I have an issue where Mac Mail doesn't always open an email message on the first try. This is happening on two of my Macs and I seem to remember this starting with the installation of Mavericks, but I'm not entirely positive about that. It may have been happening before Mavericks.
This issue does not happen with every message I open, and it seems to happen with random messages at random times, so it's tough to pinpoint exactly what triggers th problem.
I'm not sure if it's one of these non-default settings that I use:
    1) I keep the message preview window closed so that I only see the list of email messages. (I keep it closed by sliding the edge where the message list and the preview window meet, all to the right).
    2) I keep "Use Classic Layout" checked in my Mail Preferences.
    3) I keep "Organize by Conversation" deselected in the View menu.
I've tried restoring these defaults and I can't replicate the issue but obviously, having the preview window open eliminates the need to double-click the message to open. However, double-clicking the emails opens them right up. I'm still testing this, however, I just started testing and as I mentioned previously, I prefer to have Mail configured differently.
Has anyone else come across this issue and discovered the culprit?

Did you ever solve this problem?  I have the same issue on two different iMacs, one at work and one at home and on my macbook pro.  It's becoming irritating and I wonder why Apple can't be bothered to fix it.
