Why doesn't Apple put the problems with ILife 2006 in their promos

Why did I spend 80 bucks upgrading to 2006.
Now I read here that people who do it are having the same problem I am that I cannot access my photos at all now.
I get a message that my files have to be updated and when I do that an error says to go to all related files and make sure the permissions are for read and write. I have gone not only to the Iphoto Library folder which the instructions tell you to correct, but to every folder I can imagine any of my images are in and changed to read and write permissions.
Still I have the same problem. Perhaps if you only have 53 photos in your database ILife 2006 will work, but apparently with two or three thousand it won't work.
And the Apple ads scream that you can now have a quarter million photos in the data base.
For heavens sake don't believe it and don't buy until they can fix it. I am going to try to reinstall 2005 and forget the stupidity of paying to upgrade.
If there is an answer out there, I will appreciate hearing how you solve it.

John, I have over 10,000 photos and it works. A friend of mine has over 40,000, and iPhoto works faster than iPhoto 5 did with 5000.
There is one problem though, and from your post it looks like you're encountering it - since iPhoto 6 is required to move your photos to a better organization (debatable for some but I like it) structure, it needs to move all your photo files. Usually if it can't move them, it assumes there is a permissions problem. Sometimes, there is another problem - if any file is "locked", iPhoto will still put up the same error. So here's how to correct both problems.
First: Go to your iPhoto library folder in the Finder and Get Info (Cmd-I). In the Ownership and Permissions, expand the Details section. Make sure you are the owner, and set the access to Read and Write. Then click "Apply to enclosed items" and authenticate. This should address any permissions problem throughout your library. If this fixes your problem, you don't need step two.
Second: From your /Applications/Utilities/ folder, launch Console. Click Clear to clear the screen. Launch iPhoto 6, click Upgrade and get that error. If you look in Console, it may give you a list of files that are locked. I'm not sure how this happens, but some files get that way. You have to go to the specified locations of those files in the Finder, and Get Info on them. Uncheck the Locked checkbox for all of them.
You will be able to access and upgrade your library in iPhoto 6 easily after this. If not, post back here. iPhoto 6, in my opinion, is one of the best upgrades, not worth missing out on.

  • Why won't Apple admit the problem with 6th generation nano power button?

The power (sleep) button on the 6th generation nano is obviously faulty and poorly designed. Why won't Apple step up and make it right and issue a recall to fix or solve the issue so many people are having? Apple, do you hear us? Make it right! You know it's wrong! If a power button fails after a couple of years, that's a sad design. Shame on you!

No, they don't hear you posting here. My button is working fine after 3 years.

Go down to Contact Us at the bottom right, get Apple's address and right them a letter.

  • Why doesn't Apple list the changes in iPhone updates?

Why doesn't Apple list the changes included with each iteration of iPhone updates? They always post a detailed list of changes for all other major software updates. I wonder why the same is not true for the iPhone, leaving us all guessing and wondering...

Just to add, Ansuz82 pointed out, Apple's track record is that they don't really ever give full published details about what their updates include in any of their products really. If the iPhone is your first product by Apple you may not be aware of this. To them, saying Bug Fixes is enough. If they publicly add more info, it means they really wanted to get that point out. eg: the 1.1.1 mainly just talked about iTunes WiFi store. 1.1.2 mainly talked about the Tiff exploit fixed and keyboard updates for languages. However, with all, a lot more does get changed than just the key points mentioned. And by a lot, I don't mean a lot that you will see. Have to remember, they are still ironing out the OS for the iPhone. A lot of changes to them is just cleaning up and fixing known bugs that many of us as users may not even know exisit (though we see the outcome of them when apps colide and crash each other).

  • Has Apple fixed the problem with 4G cellular connection?

Has Apple fixed the problem with 4G cellular connection on the iPad 3?

Cellular connection problem was for US connection in Houston, Texas.  Have an iPad 2 which functions perfectely on Wi-Fi or 3G.  Bought an iPad 3 strictly to get the increased speed from the 4G LTE connection.  Purchased on with the AT &T cellular.  Wi-Fi functions fine, but 4G LTE connection is terrible when it connects at all.  Went to AT&T and they said no problems with service in my area, but never get over 2 bars and most times, Web pages load very slow or will hang and not load at all.  Went to the Apple store and they said it was AT&T network problem and went to AT&T and they said no problems with their service.  Went to the Apple communities forum here and discovered that many people were having the same problems with the 4G LTE cellular connection on their iPad 3's.  Didn't seem to matter if it was AT&T or Verizon.  So I decided that I would just return the unit and wait for Apple to fix the problem.  Hence my question.
Appreciate very much your time in responding to my question.

  • Why doesn't Apple host "support communities" with Apple representatives?

I'm a big Apple fan. I've been using Macs for more than 25 years, and luckily for me I bought Apple stock at a good price. But there are times when it seems to me that Apple has chosen saving moneny over providing good service to its customers.
Case in point: a few days ago, I had a couple of problems with purchases on iTunes. I wanted to give iTunes money, but I was prevented from doing so, and I couldn't get through to iTunes support.
It turns out the support problem was caused by a Safari extension called Ghostery. It was blocking Adobe Analytics, and that stopped the support link from working. Why couldn't I just 800-MY-APPLE and connect to support? iTunes is the world's largest music retailer, and Apple has long been in the top 2 or 3 most profitable companies. It currently has $150 BILLION in cash reserves. Why do they have to save pennies on customer support?
When Ghostery (an approved Safari extension) caused problems with the Apple website, there should have been other ways to get to the support.

This is one of the problems with this kind of support: helpful people being helpful inadvertantly give the wrong information, and then you either have to correct them (which comes across as being negative) or the thread goes down the wrong tracks.
Ghostery makes the link you gave not work
I did not give you the wrong information; that link works both in FF and Safari here.
When you install third party addons you have to expect unexpected behavior. Add ons are not guaranteed. If you will read any SLA, you will note that such things can happen and Apple does not guarantee uninterrupted use. So, instead of telling me that I gave you the wrong information, disable or uninstall Ghostery.
    — iTunes is part of Apple selling things and "MY APPLE"—what logical reason is there to make it innaccessible to 800-MY-APPLE?
Sales and support are generally two separate entities in a large corporation. The hardware sales and iTunes stores are two separate entities.
    Good luck.

  • How do you enable a disabled Apple ID.  I have reset password, an everything else it wanted.  Still get "Apple ID Disabled".  Why doesn't Apple address this problem?

My Itunes and IPOD Touch are receiving error message:  "APPLE ID DISABLED"  I have reset password, and everything else they wanted me to do.  Why doesn"t Apple address this issue?  Is the a secret place to go to fix this problem?

    Have you tried here:
Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" alert appears
    If not successful. contact iTunes:

  • Why won't Apple put the photo name in the Photos app?!

I keep hoping that Apple will do a very simple thing and that is put the photo name/title in the Photos app for iOS. It's not even available in the iOS version of iPhoto as near as I can tell. This one simple thing would be a tremendous boon to anyone showing photos under any circumstances. "1 of 55" is not very helpful. What possible reason could make this undesirable? It isn't confusing or cluttering up the interface. Nothing is as simple as syncing photos to an iPad with iTunes; I've looked at Photosmith, and while a very nice app, you have to create & publish individual collections from Lightroom one at a time. Does anyone know if it's possible to force the title to be shown? I've read that the information isn't even transferred to the iPad or iPhone but at least some metadata is transferred for iOS iPhoto.

You can let Apple know that you would like this feature:

  • Why doesn't apple tv v3 work with my projecter

I had an older Apple TV in a classroom using a VGA converter to project to the VGA projector.  I got a new Apple TV 3 and swapped them out and it doesn't work.  The projector says "unsupported".  Is there a difference between 3 and one from a few years ago that would cause it to just not project?

What modes does the projector support?
Officially AppleTV 3 only supports 720p and 1080p.  It won't do interlaced modes but i have occasionally seen it list various other resolutions.
Was the older AppleTV a black v2 or silver v1 ?
    AppleTV2 maxed out at 720p.
AppleTV 1 could do interlaced modes up to 1080i as well as outputting 720p/1080p even though it could only process 720p it upscaled.
I would try connecting the new AppleTv to an HDMI equipped TV and maybe setting the resolution to 720p - my older 800x600 projector worked via an adapter when AppleTV was set to 720p recognising a 720p input over VGA.
It could however be an HDCP issue.

I'm still stuck with 1.1.4 and I havent upgraded it to 2.0.1 because alot of people were having problems with it, but did 2.0.2 fix any problems or should I wait some more until FU#KING APPLE does something to fix those problems?

  • Why doesn't Apple put a soft protective seal in between the glass borders and the metal frame to make it way less likely to crack the screen?

I have had 3 expensive apple products in my life. All of which ended up with a cracked screen. I realize you have to be careful but when the price is so high they need to invest in some design that prevents this tragedy. 2 iPads and one iPod all 3 fell one time and cracked with ease. And what's the cost too have it fixed? Unreasonable as well.

  • HT1222 Has Apple acknowledged the problems with Security Update 2012-001?

I've read a multitude of user forum comments about this update breaking user software, but have not found a single comment by an Apple representative.

    Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
    You might wish to read:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
    Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
    - You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
    - Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
    - Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
    - Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

  • Has Apple resolved the problems with the 23" display?

I want to buy a 23" cinema display but the color problem (pinkish hue) seems to still exist. Has Apple still not resolved this problem?
If this is the case, I'll buy the 20" display which I believe does not have any problems. Can someone confirm this?

There has not been any indication from Apple that any chnages have been made in the displays other than price cuts. There were some minor spec changes (which were "un-announced") but nothing about the panels or the many issues that have been discussed here since the introduction of these units.

  • Has apple addressed the problems with iCloud and iCal?

I can see there have been lots of complaints about iCal errors in trying to sync on icloud. I'm not finding any solutions to the issues that are clearly affecting a lot of people. Any one know what's going on?

final cut pro 4.5 and final cut express 3 both seem to have the same dropped frames/capture issue once you upgrade to 10.4.9, something to do with spotlight.

  • When will Apple fix the problem with Freezing from the new upgrade??

    I've had it.
Everytime I try to burn or back up my iTunes songs the whole program locks up as soon as I click on any of the brun or back up icons. Haven't been able to find any answers to solve my problem here although Apples tech support insists on looking here. Come on Apple what gives??

No one here would know that. An announcement would need to come from Apple.
