Why doesn't created swf progressively download?

I thought I had the perfect solution by being able to post a flash created video on a web page, the output is even smart enough to break up the different timelines into separate .flv files but I don't understand why the content that is created doesn't have the ability to progressively or intelligently download the file if the bandwidth required isn't quite enough. It would be really nice if the .swf created that drives the playing of the flv files was smart enough to do a progressive download. Alternatively, if there was a way to play the created file through the Adobe Media Player and it had the intelligence that would also be acceptable. Is adobe planning on adding that capability in any fashion?
Thanks in advance!

Encore's Flash export is a progressive download - maybe you meant streaming download? Encore doesn't support streaming download yet, but that also requires a streaming server (Flash Media Server) to host the FLV files.
If that's not what you meant, then perhaps you meant a preloader? Encore doesn't create a preloader - if you want that, you'd need to create it in Flash, and then try to integrate it with the Encore Flash output.
This is the first version of Encore (or any other DVD authoring tool for that matter) to offer Flash export. File a feature request for the tools that you need for it, and it's sure to improve from version to version.

  • Progressive download doesn't display

I'm attempting to add video to our site using flv files
created in Premiere Pro and creating the swf files in Flash. The
video is intended to popup in a new window. Everything works
wonderfully inside Flash and in my browser, but when I move it to
the server, it doesn't work. When the button is clicked, the popup
opens and the file name and address displays correctly, however,
the window remains white. When I right-click on the window, I can
    see the Flash settings.
I verified with our web administrator that flv is a
registered file type. I read about Enabling the FLV MIME. Is that
the same thing as "registering flv"? Any ideas what else could be
    my problem?
    Thanks.

I figured out my problem by posted in the DW forums. All of
my paths were correct between the HTML, SWF's, FLV's, and the
JavaScript. So, for those of you experiencing the same thing:
End's up it was the MIME types on my host. The host computer
didn't know how to handle FLV files, just like sometimes on a local
desktop you have to sometimes associate certain file types with
certain programs. It has something to do with the HTML header. All
I had to do was go to my host settings through their website and
    add the MIME FLV type.
    Responding to the last post:
    1. You actually want to save your video out from an AVI
straight to FLV, not mp4 if you are planning on having people view
it through a Flash player. Mp4's have some compression so you don't
want to add another compression on top of that once you change it
to FLV. You can even save an FLV file directly out of Premiere
rather than going the AVI to Sorenson Squeeze route. Better yet,
export an AVI from Premiere and open it Flash Video encoder (free
program). The quality will be determined by your encoding settings
    in Premiere/SS/FVE.
    2. Progressive download works for every Flash player that
supports FLV's (I forget what the first player was, 6 perhaps). The
only difference between 8 & 9 is that 9 also supports the new
compression codec On2 VP6, which lets you do alpha channels and
compresses a little better. Just use Sorenson codec and you'll
    cover your bases.

  • What is the difference between SWF and F4V in the context of Streaming or progressive Download?

    Hello everybody,
I am absolutely a beginner in working with Captivate and furthermore my technological know how is not that good.
So, I have problems to understand if the export formats SWF and F4V are both capable to be published in the Internet as streaming video and as progressive Download? Well so, I do not really understand the difference between streaming and progessive download either?
Furthermore I was asking myself if this issue depends on how I imported flash videos (there are these two options) in my Captivate project during the production phase?
I would be very thankful for some helping information!
    Greetings,
    Mareike the beginner

    Welcome to our community
I'm not certain I fully understand the differences myself, but will toss out what I believe to be true about the formats. Hopefully, if I'm incorrect in my bellief, someone with more definitive knowledge will chime in.
It was explained to me a couple of years back and is my understanding that "streaming" only applies to a video based format such as F4V, FLV and it doesn't apply to SWF. With SWF, you may specify a preload value. So when the SWF transmits from the web server to the PC, a certain percentage has to be received before play begins. But that's not streaming. It's preloading.
For streaming to occur, the web server establishes a communication channel between the server and the destination PC. This channel is monitored to see what speed is in use. Only enough information is then transmitted to be comfortable at that speed. If the speed improves during the connection, the server serves data at a faster rate. If the connection degrades, the information transmitted is also scaled back so as to accommodate the lower speed.
With SWF, after it has all been downloaded, a savvy user is able to poke around in their temporary internet files and save the SWF for play later. With streaming, this isn't possible because as the stream is viewed, it evaporates from memory.
Seriously hoping others will chime in here to confirm or deny this.
    Cheers... Rick

    Regards!

There are many people complaining about this in other threads.  I found the solution from kglad in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5750996
You can get Flash CC to publish to version 9 player by putting these two files in these locations:
    This file: http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/5510986-147069/Fl ashPlayer9_0.xml
    Goes here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CC\Common\Configuration\Players\FlashPlayer9_0.xml
    This file:  http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/5510986-147068/pl ayerglobal.swc.zip
    Goes here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CC\Common\Configuration\ActionScript 3.0\FP9\playerglobal.swc
You may need to create the FP9 folder.
Restart flash and you should see Player 9 in your publish options.  You'll have to find the AS3 clickTag code.

  • Why is it that whenever I download a song from Itunes that a small grey round button appears next to the song (apparently this is the download progress button), but when I press on it to resume, the song disappears. This wasn't happening before.

Why is it that whenever I download a song from itunes that a small grey button appears next to the song (apparently this is the download progress) but whenever I hit it to resume, the song disappears. I am getting annoyed with having to copy the songs manually onto my phone. Thanks for anyones help. Cheers

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copies of the dodgy tracks and try redownloading fresh copies. For instructions, see the following document:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Why reloading pure asset SWF with AIR sdk 3.6+ doesn't work?

Hi, I posted this in the AIR beta channel, but I think it suits better here... I'm sorry for double posting.
    Hi,
I have a game targeting iOS using AIR sdk that needs to load many swf assets from the disk (packaged with the game). When using AIR sdk 3.5, everything runs just fine. When upgrading the sdk to 3.6 or later (-swf-version=19, 20, 21), we ran into the following problems:
    1) The packaging time (making the ipa file for iOS) passes from 15 minutes to 40+ minutes.
    2) The game can't load any swf twice (ie. reload a swf).
The first problem is not a big deal. We only have to wait a little bit more. Our guess is that is has to do with new feature introduced by the sdk 3.6, which will go through all packaged secondary swfs and remove the code from it, and since we have lot of swf assets, it takes more time.
The second problem is way more serious, as I have to be able to reload assets according to player's action. Since we have a ton of assets, I can't keep them all in the memory as we could quickly run out of memory.
I know that there's a documented limitation of sdk 3.6 which states:
In AIR apps on iOS running in AOT mode there is a problem when a SWF is reloaded. Therefore reloading a SWF will not be allowed for AIR apps for iOS in AOT mode and attempting to do so will result in following error:
Error 3764: Reloading a SWF is not supported on this operating system
It also says that "Reloading of pure asset SWFs will work with AIR 3.7". However, that's not true, since all my assets are pure asset SWF without any code inside. It won't work, even with AIR 3.8.
While searching on the internet, I came across a forum post that says that the only way to know if a swf is a pure asset swf, is by using swfdump.exe, and searching for the DoABC2 tag. I did it, and effectively, DoABC2 tag was there, but empty.
So my first observation is that:
    - Pure asset SWF file containing empty DoABC2 tag can be reloaded using AIR SDK 3.5
    - Pure asset SWF file containing empty DoABC2 tag can't be reloaded using AIR SDK 3.6+
It seems to me that AIR SDK 3.6+ doesn't care if the tag is empty or not. If it is there, then it's not ok.
Then I wanted to know why my SWFs have this empty tag. After lot of tests, it turns out that it is because I am using jsfl to automate the export of assets from a FLA file. And there comes my second observation:
    - When exporting a swf without code from Flash IDE (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S), there's no empty DoABC2 tag.
    - When exporting a swf from the Flash IDE's library (right click on the library Movieclip -> Export Flash movie...), empty DoABC2 tag is automatically inserted.
Unfortunately, my jsfl script uses thee same Library export functionality, and it produces the same "contaminated" swf. Why doesn't it produce the same SWF from both ways of export? I have no idea.
In the perfect world, the AIR SDK would not only look for the DoABC2 tag, but it should check whether if there's code inside. Also, Flash should use the same export process disregarding if it is being called from the IDE or the Library, and not inserting empty DoABC2 tag when there's no code.
As for now, I can't find any workaround to solve my problem. That means that I'm stuck with swf-version=18, and I can't benefit from all the cool features such as rectangle textures, new Context3DTextureFormat etc.
If anyone has a solution, or simply pointing out what I'm doing wrong here, please share it.
    Thanks for reading.
    Iojeirg

    Hi makc3d,
Thanks for the response. After all that time I started losing hope.
I would not say that the abvious solution is to remove the tag. I think it should not be put there in the first place if there's no code at all. Moreover, this only happens when exporting a MC from the Library, and it works just fine when exporting normally (publish). It seems more like a bug than an expected behaviour.
Also, AIR should check for actual code in this tag instead of relying only on the tag itself.
Your solution is a nice workaround, and I will certainly try that out. But as I said, it will not fix the original bug, it will only patch it later on in the process.
