Why doesn't FCP X see my NAS ?

I just bought a Qnap 809 NAS but it doesn't show up in Final Cut Pro X
Is there anything I need to do to make it visible in / useable for FCP X ?

I have a Synology 1010+, same issue, the only "way" to get it to work is to create a disk image, and mount it from the NAS, terrible, just terrible.
I can't believe somthing that works fins in iMovie, can not be delivered in FCP X. I'm not going to dedicate a truck load of non raided, non backed up disk to my laptop. This is insane...
Get your act together Apple.

  • Why doesn't FCP open a file that QT Pro and iMovie can open?

I have since mp4 (h.264) files that I created in QT Pro 7 exactly the same way. FCP can open 5 of them but gives a "general error" for the other two. QT Pro and iMovie can open and play all 7 just fine. What's the problem with FCP? I would expect it to be MORE flexible given its price. Instead I'm about to find myself using iMovie instead of it (imagine my frustration).
    Any suggestions?

Dunno - are they protected files? (trailers often are)
    How big are they?
H.264 is a "delivery" format and is not considered an "editable" format. iMovie is likely converting it to DV upon load, so that may be why it can use it. You could do the same before loading it into FCP.

  • Why doesn't my iMac see my external drive?

I have an iMac 20" 2.16 Core 2 Duo.  The machine is operating fine.  That's not the issue.  I am trying to plug into it a 1TB Maxtor external drive that I used on my G4.  The problem is the external does not show up on my iMac.  I have tried using disk utility, but it doesn't see the drive.  Here's the kicker.  When I do System Profiler, it is seeing that the external drive is there.  I have tried it through both the Maxtor's firewire and USB connections.  In either connection, the System Profiler sees the drive. My question is how can I access it?

    Hello
have a look at seagate support pages"External Hard Drive Troubleshooter for Mac OS" , here

  • Why doesn't FCPX (trial) see Aperture?

    Hi -
I cannot import from Aperture. IPhoto shows up in the Photo Browser but Aperture does not. FCP X cannot read an Aperture file of exported images, either.

    Hi Tony ,
Thank you for your reply. It seems to be working...I cannot see all my photos in FCP X. But, Aperture is processing the photos in its Library. I am assuming that when it is done, I will be able to see all the photos?
    Again, Thank you!

  • Why doesn't setup assistant see my backups?

So after a couple of days trying, I decide to just ask you guys myself, so here's the problem:
I bought a new 1TB hard drive to install in my MacBook pro 13" mid 2009, running on Moutain Lion. After succesfully replacing I decide to use a time machine backup to install this hard drive as my new startup disk. The problem is that setup assistant couldn't find my latest backup (should be that from 02-09-2013), the newest one he found was one dating april 2013. I tried to erase the disk that I use as my Time Machine, so it was completely empty, and then start a new backup, so I was sure that the backup was complete since the time machine is a 1TB WD external USB hard drive and 1 backup was 125GB. Now it couldn't find any backups at all, while I was sure there were new backups on the disk (I could see them in Finder). So then I tried to use a different external Hard Drive as my time capsule (300GB Maxtor USB), erase the disk first and then start a backup (which it completed without any problems), nothing helped.
I also tried to install my new HDD with a new copy of OSX, then use Migration Assistant. In Migration Assistant it just keeps looking for other computers endlessly.
So basically: setup assistant does find my external hard drives, but can't find the backups that are on it and migration assistant keeps searching for other computers. Does anybody know what the problem is and, more important even, how to fix it?

In the sidebar of a Finder window, select the icon representing your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) At the top level of the volume are folders with these names, among others:
    Applications
    Library
    System
Enter Time Machine and select the most recent snapshot, which is behind the frontmost window. Are those folders present in the snapshot? If not, proceed as below.
This simple procedure will clear your Time Machine settings, including exclusions. The backups won't be affected. If you have a long exclusion list that can't be recreated easily, you may prefer a more complicated procedure that preserves the exclusion list. In that case, ask for instructions. Otherwise, do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Copy the file to the Desktop. Then move it (the original, not the copy) to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password. Reboot and recreate your settings in the Time Machine preference pane. It will show that you have no backups. Don't worry; that's expected. Run a backup to test. The backup may take much longer than usual. If TM now performs as expected, delete the file you copied to the Desktop.

  • Why doesn't FCP utilize it's processors during rendering?

This is probably a question for the code writers, but for you others, open Activity Monitor>CPU Usage window. Do some rendering in FCP. Notice the LACK of processor activity. On my dual 2G G5, both processors are working LESS than 25% during rendering.
I'm more of an Avid editor, and am learning FCP to freelance edit a TV series in DVCPro HD. I'm getting paid by the episode, and the continual glacial rendering times are killing me.

You can do this automatically by opening the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and pasting in the following:
    tell application "Final Cut Pro"
    run
    end tell
set the_lines to paragraphs of (do shell script "ps -U $USER")
set the_app to "Final Cut Pro"
    set the_line to ""
    repeat with this_line in the_lines
    if this_line contains the_app then
    set the_line to this_line
    end if
    end repeat
if the_line is "" then return
    set the_pid to word 1 of the_line
do shell script "renice -20 " & the_pid password "yourpass" with administrator privileges
Provide your administrator password in the last line, and save the script as an application in a location easy to access. Open it whenever you want to open Final Cut Pro. More information about the command, including the purpose of the -20, is available in this article.

  • Why doesn't CS5 Bridge see my RAW photos from my Canon 7D?

I just got a new Canon 7D. I can't open Raw files in CS5 Bridge...it only sees jpgs.  Is there a setting I need to change?  I have updated CS5 to latest updates.

7D support was introduced with ACR 5.6, which was an update for CS4.
Have you tried opening a 7D raw with Photoshop directly (File > Open ...)?
Are you using a non-standard raw format (I dunno, I don't shoot Canon, but I believe there are alternative raw types)?
Can you confirm that ACR is correctly installed? Photoshop > Help > About Plugin... - there should be one copy of Camera Raw, currently version 6.4.
It should be physically located at:
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats and/or C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats
    Mac:  /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS5/File Formats
    and nowhere else!

  • Why doesn't my ipod see my artwork anymore?

    Sorry to be a pest.
How can we get the fix for this.
I do not want to restore what is there.
I hoped that the new 7.1 would help but it did not.
    Any ideas??????????

I've tried everything suggested here at at the ipod site.
It seems if you add anything to itunes and add the art there it will turn up on the pod. I don't want to reload the works though. I took the tunes from 100s and 100s of sources and it took me months to organize it. As you know the art is in there it just needs to be FREED!!!

  • I have done everything Adobe suggests, why doesn't my computer see it?

I have downloaded and installed Adobe Flash Player at least a dozen times.  It always says successful.
In Manage Add Ons, in Firefox it shows "enabled." In IE it says Flash Player isn't installed.
It isn't listed as a program on my computer.
What do I need to do?

  • Why doesn't Firefox see that I have Flash loaded on my computer?

I have Flash 10.1.102.64 loaded on my computer and I can watch youtube videos on Windows IE. I just loaded Firefox 3.0.5 and when I try to watch a youtube video, it tells me I need to install Flash. Why doesn't it see Flash? Do I need to do something first?

    Safari>Preferences>Security
    Is "Allow Plugins" checked?
If it is, follow the illustrated instructions here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1343084 to do a complete "clean install".

  • Why doesn't my iMac tell me what is being down loaded when I can see that my modem is downloading something

why doesn't my imac tell me what is being dowloaded when i can see that my modem is downloading something?

There are many reasons for the activity light on your cable or DSL modem to be flashing. Your Mac could be checking for or downloading updates in the background. It could be checking e-mail. It could be syncing a cloud service like iCloud, Dropbox, etc.
If your Mac isn't the only thing on the network, then the light could be flashing due to some other device on the network downloading an update, syncing something, etc.
And, of course, it's always possible your network is under attack by an automated botnet or something. You'd be surprised how often a device exposed to the internet directly - as a modem like this is - will be hit with attempted attacks, in an attempt to find things that are vulnerable.

  • HT1657 I had rented a movie on my IPhone5 and after downloading almost all of it, I get an error that there is no enough space. Why doesn't the store check to see if I have enough free space before proceeeding with the order?

How do I get a refund?

Well, with apps genneraly you do get told ahead of time. I'm not sure of the current algorithm with movies though.
Why not just clear up some space? You can check your usage in your settings btw.

  • Time Machine doesn't see my NAS?

Well after talking on the phone will Apple about the AirPort Extreme's USB port "connection failed." every day. I was told that Time Machine is NOT supported with the AirPort Extreme and that I should get a NAS.
So, I walked into NCIX and picked up the Patriot Javelin S4. It says Time Machine compatible and Mac compatible on it. I have set it up but Time Machine doesn't seem to find the NAS? I am running Lion.

That is correct.  See Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.

Just because it says it's compatible doesn't mean it is, unfortunately.   And, some NASs that were compatible with Time Machine on Snow Leopard didn't get updated for Lion's tighter security requirements.
So, first, check with the maker to be sure it's compatible with TM on Lion (they may have an update).
Then, be sure you're following their setup instructions exactly.  Each NAS has it's own mini-operating system, that interacts with OSX, and they all do it differently (even some made by the same company don't do it the same way!).

  • Why doesn't my itunes on my windows pc load on my apple tv?  Home sharing is turned on and my ipad can see it!

Home sharing is turned on and my ipad can see it!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Intermittent problems
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
    Consistent Problems
A frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is the service being blocked on the network. Make sure your network isn't hidden, has a unique name, that MAC address authentication is disabled, security is set to use WPA 2 Personal and that there is only one router/device acting as a DHCP server and providing NAT services.
Make sure your router/computer allows access over the following ports
    Port
    Type
    Protocol
    Used By
    80
    TCP
    HTTP
    AirPlay
    443
    TCP

    UDP
    MDNS (Win)
    Bonjour/AirPlay
    49163
    UDP
    MDNS (Win)
    Bonjour/AirPlay
Refer to your router manual/manufacturer for any settings that are specific to that model.
Another frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is security software, in many cases configuring it correctly, disabling it or even uninstalling it can help, but in some cases the security software can cause problems that simply reconfiguring, disabling or uninstalling cannot reverse.
If you are consistently unable to activate AirPlay, have tried all the steps in this article and have security software installed on your system, you might benefit from contacting its provider or participating in any online forums they run to discuss the matter with them.
