  • Why doesn't Firefox auto-update Flash Player like Chrome does?

For security reasons and less hassle, I like Chrome auto-updates Flash Player. Why doesn't Firefox do this?

Google Chrome has it's own version of the Flash plugin that is apart of the Google Chrome installation files.<br />
So Google needs to do a full update with every Flash release.
Firefox uses the Flash plugin as installed in your Linux distribution,<br />
If your Ubuntu Linux distribution doesn't have an automatic update for Flash then you need to do that manually.

  • When saving files from the internet, why doesn't Firefox 'know' to put .jpg files in "Photos" and pdf files in "Documents"?

When saving files from the internet, why doesn't Firefox 'know' to put .jpg files in "Photos" and pdf files in "Documents"? IE always saved photos in the "Photos" file and documents in the "Documents" file. Firefox makes me choose every time. Very annoying.

How about if Firefox is programmed like IE in this ONE thing...
When saving files from internet sources, if the file ends in a typical photo extension such as .jpg, .bmp, .tif etc. it defaults to save it in your PHOTOS folder.
When saving anything like a .doc, .pdf etc. it defaults to save it to your DOCUMENTS.
You could still change it to 'desktop' if that if really where you want all your photos and documents... or some other folder that you decide, but DEFAULTS to the LOGICAL folder.
I have carpal tunnel SO bad that even typing this suggestion is painful and having to make the extra click along with moving the mouse EVERY time I want to save something is painful.
ALSO, I shouldn't need a bunch of ADDONS to accomplish this. I tried downloading one and it did nothing. The problem still exists.

  • Why doesn't Firefox see that I have Flash loaded on my computer?

I have Flash 10.1.102.64 loaded on my computer and I can watch youtube videos on Windows IE. I just loaded Firefox 3.0.5 and when I try to watch a youtube video, it tells me I need to install Flash. Why doesn't it see Flash? Do I need to do something first?

If it is, follow the illustrated instructions here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1343084 to do a complete "clean install".

  • Why doesn't Firefox have an ADM/ADMX GPO file?

I've been using Firefox for years, and it's always been my favorite browser. But working in our environment we push Firefox to our users, but we have no control of the software. Things we want to do are; allow pop-ups, disable auto-update, enable certain plug-ins and a few other settings we want configured.
Why is this never tackled by the Firefox development group? I've seen 3rd party ADM\ADMX but they only last for a version and won't work again.
Why won't Firefox do this for the business users? It's been brought up time and again.

  • Why doesn't firefox close out when I'm done with it and close it; when next I try to open firefox again I get a dialog box telling me firefox is open and to close it or restart my computer? I'm tired of doing that one of more times a day.

    1. This happens at least once a day, and sometimes multiple times. Today it's happened twice, thus far. My home page is FoxNews.com and if I leave it up overnight or for longer periods during the day firefox doesn't allow the refresh of the home page it just goes to yahoo 404--error can't find the webpage. Then when I enter FoxNews.com it adds a /error to the url and doesn't allow me to go to MY homepage. So I close firefox and then if I try to reopen it and then I get the dialog box saying firefox is open and to close it or restart my computer. Very aggravating. 2. Also the Adobe flash drive update always fails. 3. Webpages get in loops and fail to load to the point I have to stop and refresh or close out and reopen.

One situation in which Command+w or Ctrl+w might not work is if the "focus" is in a plugin such as the Flash player used on Youtube after you interact with the player controls. Firefox will continue to send the keyboard input to the plugin until you move the focus back to the page. Does that account for any of the problem?

  • Why doesn't Firefox completely uninstall ?

Why does Firefox 22 on a Mac Os not completely uninstall? when I remove the application on the Mac by dragging the application to the garbage and then reinstall, my book marks are still present. Why? All applications should completely uninstall but Firefox does not and it has done this since version 13.
I am aware of the procedure to manual remove the files but this doesn't make sense as if you can manually remove files it should be automated.

Firefox stores your user data and settings (called your ''profile'') in a separate location from the program. Mac doesn't provide an easy way to remove your profile but you can do it manually. See these articles for details:

  • Why Doesn't Firefox 34.0.5 Render Any Web Pages - All Are Blank White

I am using Firefox on on W7-SP1 computer and three W8.1 computers
I upgraded to 34.0.5 from 33.1.1. None of the pages on any website render. All pages are just blank white. The Yoono sidebard works. Popup message from Firefox shows..
Steps I took to try and solve problem
    1. Disabled all extensions - Did not solve problem
    2. Did an uninstall and clean install - Did not solve problem
    3. Turned off Web Protection in Bitdefender Internet Sececurity 2015 - Did no solve problem
    4. Turned off Web Protection in Malwarebytes 2.03 - Did not work
    5. Turned off Protection in Malwarebyes Anti-Exploit - Did not work
    I am also using Malwarebytes

    Hey,
I really hope I can help some of you poor ones who have that problem because I had it, too! Right after upgrading to Version 34.0.5, no webpages displayed any content but a blank. It annoyed me very much, especially since it's hard to get an earlier Firefox version and seemingly impossible to downgrade. What helped me in the end was:
Disabling one of my add-ons, namely "Privacy Defense".
I had to find out what caused the trouble. So I went to reset my Firefox to the original settings, thereby getting rid of all my add-ons. Webpages were working normally as before. I re-downloaded my old add-ons. Everything worked fine. Until I got to "privacy defense" which doesn't even require a restart of Firefox. When I had downloaded it, no webpages would look any other than blank! So I disabled it - and everything was back to normal. So:
Tools > add-ons > guilty add-on (for me Privacy Defense) > disable it.
It seems as though certain add-ons aren't compatible with this new Firefox version. So check them. (Also, my contrast settings, colours and fonts I had chosen weren't the problem.)
    Really hope this helps someone.
    Good luck!

  • Why doesn't Firefox close tabs when I use the command-w shortcut keys?

Every so often, on random sites, I would have 2 or three tabs open. I would command-w (on a Mac) to close the front most tab, and it would close. Bringing the next tab to the front. But when I hit command-w again, I get the warning sound on my Mac, and the tab does not want to close. Even though Firefox is at the most front of applications, and the tab I'm trying to close is at the front of Firefox browser window. I have to click on the page (even though it's already at the front), for command-w to work and close the tab. I've reset Firefox to default twice already. I've even deleted it, and reinstalled it.

One situation in which Command+w or Ctrl+w might not work is if the "focus" is in a plugin such as the Flash player used on Youtube after you interact with the player controls. Firefox will continue to send the keyboard input to the plugin until you move the focus back to the page. Does that account for any of the problem?

  • Why doesn't firefox have a "print" button in the tool bar and why can't I add attachments to my emails MOST of the time. It only works rarely?? Frustrating!

I cannot find an add on as a print button for the firefox toolbar. Almost every time I want to print, I have to copy and then open a document and paste it there to be able to print it.
Also, each time I want to add an attachment to an email, it rarely lets me. I have to open internet explorer and go through my email that way to be able to add attachments.

    1. File > Print <br />
    2. There is a '''Print''' button in the Customize palette for the Toolbars. <br />
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar
Considering that Firefox doesn't do email, that problem is probably caused by your webmail portal software not being totally compatible with Firefox. If you tell which webmail service you use maybe another user who is familiar with that service can help you.

  • Why "DOESN'T" Firefox open a new Application in a "NEW TAB" Like it used to?

I want a new tab ope for each app. I am using so I can just click on the tab, and continue to work on that app. I "Don't" want to use the "History" and then wait for it to "Reload" that tab!! I want my tabs all open until I close them. Also, why isn't there an"X" in the current tba to be able to close it??

The setting in Tools > Options > Tabs: "New pages should be opened in": "a new tab/window" is for links that specify a target window to open the link.<br />
That option allows you to divert such links to a new tab or to the current tab.<br />
For other links use a middle-click or hold down Ctrl and left-click the link or use the right-click context menu.<br />
Left-click a JavaScript link to avoid getting a blank tab.

  • Why doesn't FIREFOX provide guidance for reverting back to 3.6.17?

Don't like Firefox 4, want to revert back to what I previously had, but I'm not technically "adept." Why aren't we provided with simple, accurate step-by-step directions from FIREFOX on how to revert?

    Hi Stan,
Firefox 4's lack of support for Billeo is our fault. While Billeo for Firefox 4 on Windows is ready for download from www.billeo.com, we're still working on the Mac version.
We apologize for the delay. Please email [mailto:[email protected] [email protected]] and let us know you want to be notified as soon as our Browser App is ready for FF4 on Mac.

  • Why doesn't Firefox for Android support 32/24-bit colour? When will it be enabled? Why isn't it an option?

Can anybody explain why this isn't an option? 16-bit colour has massive amounts of banding and it would very nice if there was at least an option to toggle between 16-bit and 24/32-bit colour.

If that's the case make an optional toggle so I can turn it on a fast device such as my HTC One X and turn it off on slower devices.
Frankly put all the browsers I've tried use 32/24 bit colour whereas firefox is the only browser that I've tired that dosen't use the higher bit depth so at the moment I'm forced to use dolphin and so are many others who ask me for browser recommendations. I would prefer to use firefox but I can't at the moment until this is changed. I'm not the only one either.
Anyways keep up the good work mates!
