Why doesn't Garage Band use wav files?

I would like to use Garage Band to edit wav files I have, but it won't recognize them - only seems to work with songs I imported from cassette tapes.  Why?

Thanks for the suggestion.  I do have the option to use Total Recorder in Windows which I also have on my Mac. That is also free and I used it a lot when I had PC.  So guess that is the route I will take.  Just thought I would see if I could do it in Garage Band as the sound view is bigger than in TR, and also I wouldn't have to switch over to Windows.  By the way, does Audacity take up a lot of space on the hard drive?  I don't want to clog it up with too much stuff.

  • Why doesn't Garage Band Make any sound anymore?

I recently installed Pro Tools to my Mac Mini and it works great but now when I try to run Garage band this what it says:
"GarageBand has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers.
(Be sure to install the latest drivers for all audio and MIDI equipment connected to your computer. For instructions on removing older drivers, consult the manufacturers' documentation.)"
I don't know what that means. All I know is that my Axiom 49 keyboard worked with Garage Band the day before yesterday and now it doesn't. How can I fix this without having to uninstall pro tools
    Please help.

Look into your midi driver folder (HD/Library/Audio/Midi Drivers) and see what's in there. Try to at least temporarily move the files somewhere else and see if GB starts up without making a fuss!

  • Why doesn't Garage Band install?

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite and bought the newest version of Garage Band. It won't install and keeps saying it need to download an essential set of sounds and loops. It always stops and says try again later. What gives?

Contact the Mac App Store and let them know your issue.

Are you trying to transfer the GarageBand projects or the rendered audio files? What version of GarageBand do you have on your iPhone?
I do not think you can share your GarageBand projects from your iPhone to GarageBand on your Mac, unless you have iCloud, afaik, only the audio files.
How did you transfer the song?
To share from an IOS device the Projects or audio files, see:  Share GarageBand songs

  • Why doesn't apple offer a viewer/file browser for iCloud Drive?

Why doesn't apple offer a viewer/file browser for iCloud Drive?
Dropbox, Microsoft’s OneDrive, and Google Drive all have viewer apps that let you see and manage what’s in the drive.  The only way you can do that with iCloud Drive is through a web browser.  Very frustrating and backward.

I found a possible band-aid for our problem:
    1) On iOS 8 Device, go to Safari / iCloud.com
    2) Once you get to iCloud.com, you'll notice it won't give you the option to log in.
    3) Tap on the URL bar (this should bring up your bookmarks bar and Frequently Visited Sites)
    4) Tap, Hold, and Slide your finger down on that section (this will reveal two options: (1) Add to Favorites, and (2) Request Desktop Site
    5) Tap Request Desktop Site
Log in as usual, and you can now access iCloud Drive with your PDFs and other documents like any other computer.
I too am disappointed as I was looking forward to view PDF's shared between my Macbook and my iPad, but I think this should work until Apple comes out with a solution.

  • Why doesn't Aperture 3 recognise RAW files from my Fuji F550EXR?

I have just bought a Fujifilm F550EXR, partly because of it's RAW capabilities. I am an existing Aperture 3 user (Canon 5D Mk II) and have found it very good at working with the RAW files from that SLR. After shooting some test shots with the F550EXR, I now find that Aperture 3 doesn't recognise them. Surely Fuji's RAW file format has been around long enough for Apple to incorporate it into it's RAW converter. Why doesn't Apple support Fuji RAW files?

    Hi all,
    the problem still exists..
Aperture still does not support this RAF (I recently bought a Fujifilm F550EXR)
    Others do..
I've just tested Adobe Lightroom, works great
with both, Fuji-RAF and NEF format (of my Nikon D80)
even free picture software does support this Fuji-RAW format
    - e.g. "rawker", http://raifra.fh-friedberg.de/Mac/index-en.html
so its hard for me to understand, that the missing cooperation between Fujifilm and Apple is the problem.
I think, Apple regards it as too much effort to implement this format for (in relation) so few cameras..
Aperture 2 had no backup function for some month, and Apple did not care ..
    (too much effort, too?)

  • Using .wav file format in GarageBand (GB)?

I am importing files from a Zoom H4n recorder in to GB.  I am using 4 mic's so the Zoom recorded saves two files, one for one set of mic's and one for the other set of mic's.  They are in .wav format.  When I import the two files in to GB, they get converted to .aif format.  It seems to compress the files since the file size shrinks.  For example, the .wav files are 140 MB each.  After importing them in to GB, the .aif file is 104 MB.  I want to keep the .wav format.  Is there a way to do that in GB or do I need another software application that will allow me to edit in .wav and save it in .wav?  Thanks.

Which version of GarageBAnd are you using?
When I import .wav files to GarageBand 10.0.3 and open the .band project with ctrl-click > Show Package content, I can see, that the .wav files are stored "as is", in the original format in the Media > Audio Files folder.
But the edited song cannot be bounced as a wav file. You can only export from GarageBAnd as AIFF, MP3, or AAC.

  • I'm Just wondering how to make drum beats in garage band using the sounds it comes with? Also how can i use garage band like a drum machine which i can program an entire song part by part????

I'm new to using Garageband and loops with garage band. I just wanted to see if there was a way for me to use the drum sounds provided in garageband to create my own original drum tracks and work with it like a drum machine that i can program an entire song into... any info or tutorials would be a great help.. Thanks!!!

Ah ok, I have a better idea of what you want to do now.
Unfortunately there isn't anything inside GB that can come anywhere close to Acoustica Beatcraft, but there are two tools inside Garageband that can help you do something similar.
First are the built-in keyboards, which will enable you to trigger drum samples with your computer keyboard or mouse.  Go to Window -> Keyboard or Window -> Musical Typing.  Click with your mouse on the Keyboard or press keys on your computer keyboard with Musical Typing, and you will trigger different drum samples for whatever kit you've chosen for that software track.
Next is the Track Editor: in Piano Roll mode, you can create and see midi notes somewhat similar to the view in this screenshot from AB.  On the left side of the Editor, you will see a sideways piano keyboard.  When you assign a drum kit to a software track, each of the piano keys corresponds to a different instrument: hi hat, snare, bass drum, etc---you'll have to play them using the on-screen keyboard or musical typing to see what they correspond to.   In order to add a MIDI note you hold the CMD button and click with the mouse.
So, if you wanted to add a closed hi-hat hit, you would CMD-click on the Track Editor row corresponding to the closed hi-hat piano key, and then you can drag the MIDI note left & right to change the beat it plays on, or resize the note, which will change its duration.
Or, as you've already observed, you can use Musical Typing to play out a pattern on your computer keyboard while recording, and you will see the midi notes appear in real time in the Track Editor.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions.

  • Want to use .wav file as text tone...

I'm new to the iphone world. I have a .wav file on my PC that I want to use as a text tone on my phone (it's short enough). Can I email file to my phone (gmail), open it up on phone, and save it somehow to the phone, so that I can use it as a tone? I was able to do it that way on my Android. Thanks in advance!

  • How many outputs can garage band use?

I currently use Audacity for my recording/playback needs, but when linked to a 2i4 interface, I can still only select Right or Left for output options rather than Output:1, 2, 3 and 4.  Does Garage Band allow the user to select a line out from the available outputs, or is it also limited to L and R regardless of the number of outputs on my interface.  I need to be able to send out 4 different mixes at once (one for PA, drums, guitar and vocals).
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

.NET assemblies on which your specified assembly depends are loaded using the .NET framework's algorithm for finding assemblies, not the TestStand search directories. They are not directly loaded by TestStand; they are loaded by the .NET
framework. Generally the .NET framework will find dependent assemblies if they are in the same directory as your specified assembly, are in the application base directory (i.e. the directory of the executable), or in the GAC.
    Hope this helps,

  • WHY ISN'T GARAGE BAND WORKING?!?!

I click on the Garage Band icon in the dock. The icon bounces as usual. Then the bouncing stops. It doesn't open. No black arrow under the icon to indicate the program is running. Everything else works fine. I've tried hitting AppleOptionEsc, but Garage Band is not running, so I can't force quit. I've also tried closing everything else down, restarting, shutting down for awhile, unhooking everything from the wall, removing the battery for a few minutes, and nothing works. Still the same thing. It's been doing this for two days now.
    Somebody, please, help me..!

  • Why is my Garage Band not upgrading to the latest version yet?

I watched the new update keynote today and I cannot wait to play on the new Garage Band... However, my garage band app is not updated yet.  What is the problem?  iMovie and iPhoto have updated, why not Garage Band?

I'm in Garageband Groundhog Day download loop.
First it didn't update like other iLife Apps.
Then I found it in App Store Featured section, with Update tag attached.  I did.
Then after download, I found I had two versions.  Opened newest and a further download was needed. (see screen grab)
This further download takes ages and stops (without fail) around the 1 minute mark for no known reason (just disappears from screen).
So then you open Garageband App again and it starts the second download again.
Repeat loop... until Bill Murray helps you to become a better person?
I've deleted both old and new and re-downloaded Garageband from App store.
Nothing seems to help.  The download from within Garageband keeps mucking up along the way, and I get kicked back out of it.
    Any thoughts?

  • Why doesn't iMovie HD import MPEG2 files?

    Dear Discussion Group,
Can you please tell me why iMovie HD imports MPEG4 files, but not MPEG2 files?
It would appear that the DV8 camcorders have been withdrawn from the marketplace, with the exception of miniDV, and there are only a few models of them available.
In their place are miniDVD and Hard Drive Digital camcorders, the vast majority og which record in the MPEG2 format, not MPEG4!
The industry leader, Sony, doesn't make a single digital camcorder that upports MPEG4.
So, why does Apple support this newer technology in iMovie HD? Will there be support in future releases of iMovie?
    Owen Cobb

Only the iMovie product manager at Apple can really answer that question. Maybe the next upgrade will add this feature. On the PC, the consumer video editing app Adobe Premiere Elements 1.0 didn't support MPEG-2 editing either, but added it in version 2.0, and improved it with 3.0.
    QuickTimeKirk said:
iMovie is a DV editing app. Not an MPEG-2 convert to DV Stream and then edit app.
That only applies to iMovie, not iMovie HD. When you capture from a HD miniDV camcorders with iMovie HD, it does exactly that: convert the MPEG-2 stream and then edit it. HD miniDV camcorders record in MPEG-2 to fit 1 hour of HD video onto the same 1 hour miniDV tapes that are used for SD camcorders. The limitation is that iMovie HD supports this only for HD camcorders with Firewire connections.

I just checked on the Sony website, and found 6 HD camcorders that record in AVCHD (which is MPEG-4), to either hard disk, DVD, or flash memory.
