Why doesn't iCal sync properly between my Mac and my iPhone 5?

Every time I connect my iPhone (iOS 6.1) to my Mac (version 10.6.8) with USB cable through i Tunes,  I end up getting double entries on one or both devices.  The last time I tried this the January calendar on the iPhone was completely wiped out and the time before that the January calendar on my computer was completely wiped out in addition to double entries on the survivng January calendar.  A colleague of mine was telling me he has had the same problem and became so disgusted he has given up trying to sync.  Right now I am keeping both calendars up to date by hand.

I am completely disgusted w/ Apple at this point!!!  I've had my iPhone 5 for about a year now and I've NEVER been able to sync it w/ my pc (yes.......I've tried ALL the suggested fixes for my version of Windows, before anyone else starts regurgitating all the crap I've read thru a dozen times to no avail).  Basically.....if you want to really address your problem by 'reinstalling' itunes; you'd better have your schedule for the ENTIRE NIGHT clear because you'll be waiting for itunes to download for a good 5 hours.  (occasionally you'll read some knuckle head's feedback, who is probably an Apple employee, saying that it "only takes 5 minutes".  I'd highly suggest not even paying attention to these morons!!
Yes I realize that I haven't contributed anything productive to this thread.....yes I realize it will irritate some people.....however they'll need to deal with it because at this point, I'm simply using this thread to 'vent' my frusteration w/ Apple.  Horrible update!!  Horrible support!!  Horrible suggested fixes and even worse acknowledgment of your customer base's problems w/ your product!!!  I'm seriously contemplating selling my iphone and going android again.  Samsung's looking pretty good right about now!!

  • All of the Appoints in my calendar do not sync properly between my MAC and iPad

it is really frustrating - some (with no rhyme nor reason) of my appts that I book into the calendar function on my iPad do not then sync across to my MAC Air.
Does anyone know of a solution? Or what might be causing it?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There may be a variety of reasons for this, such as different page set ups or fonts being substituted.

  • Syncing iBooks between my MBP and my iPhone

All the iBooks I have acquired have automatically sync'ed between my phone and my laptop. But recently I purchased a book from the New York Times (The Rise of Apple) and it seems to be stuck in the iBooks library on my MBP. This is something I thought I'd read on the go but it's not making itself available. I thingt perhaps it might have something to do with the format the book is rendered in but I can't find a way of deciphering that.
This set-up screen is displayed by Apple on its support site and shows a checkoff for 'books" in iTune preferences:
However, this is the screen I get in my iTunes preferences window under the Store tab:
There is no "books" option offered.
Any ideas on how I can get this book to display on my iPhone?
    -rgharrison

Nowadays you have to install the iBooks.app in your mac to manage any books you want to sync or add.

  • How do I sync Tasks/To-Do List between a MAC and an iPhone

I am in the process of converting from a Windows PC to a MAC, and from a Blackberry to an iPhone. Today, I use the Outlook Tasks application extensively on my PC which syncs with my Blackberry. I am looking for an application that will provide this same functionality on the MAC and the iPhone. Can someone recommend an application that has a MAC client for Tasks/To-Do List that will sync with the iPhone? I have looked into the new Microsoft Office 11 home and business for the MAC which does provide the MAC client for task, but I have not been able to find an app for the iPhone that will sync the tasks to my iPhone.
    Any recommendation would be helpful
    Thank you

Must be a POP account then?
No idea where the setting might be on an iPad, but see if it's similar to the Mac...
Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Advanced tab, it has a box for Remove from Server once downloaded.

  • How do I make iCloud work between my Mac and my iPhone as suggested in the video's on Apple's website ?

I'm trying to share a set of Numbers projects between my MacBook and my iPhone.
I notice that iWork.com does NOT do what I am expecting from the Apple Video's : it only allows me to consult documents through Safari, but not to open one directly from iCloud.com in the appropriate app for editing ...
Through file sharing in iTunes it seems to work for one of the projects ... but another project which has multiple tabs and rather long tables doesn't open on my iPhone due to "unknown error" ...
Even then, the iTunes file sharing process can hardly be called seemless, and in no way even approaches what is suggested in the video's :
The video's suggest that when working on a file on one device, then picking up another device the file will show the changes ...
In reality here's what I have to do to make a change on the file on my Mac, share it with the iPhone, then change something on the iPhone and share it back with my Mac :
    1. save the changes to the document
    2. add the document to iTunes file sharing
    3. sync my iPhone
    4. open Numbers on my iPhone
    5. add the document from iTunes
    6. open it
    7. make a change
    8. sync the iPhone
    9. choose "save as ..." in iTunes to overwrite the copy on my Mac
    10. open the document in Numbers on the Mac
Guess what ... when making a new change, I have to go back in iTunes, delete the link to the document and add the document again in order to be able to share the change ...
I would expect the syncing with iTunes to at least take care of the file updating on the respective copies on Mac and iOS device ... apparently not so.
Anyone knows how to really make Documents In The Cloud work ?

Oops, I forgot a step between 7 and 8 ... before syncing the iPhone I need to explicitly send the document back to iTunes on the iPhone, or the changes won't come over at all ...
and then one more thing ... Numbers on iOS does NOT recognize a number of key features of the OSX app, such as conditional formatting ... so after editing my document on iOS and syncing it back to OSX on my Mac, all of those settings are lost (no more conditional formatting, have to do it all over again)
What am I doing wrong ?

  • My ical is not syncing properly between my ipad and imac

Since the latest itunes update, the sync between my ipad and imac isn't working properly - when I have checked in the Info section of the Ipad sync bit in itunes, it says that ical and contacts are syncing with icloud - I don't want this and used to specifiy not.  It's important for me to sync the contacts and calendar exactly between my 2 devices, as it used to be.
    Can anyone help, please?
    Thanks, Caroline

  • No FT between US Mac and WiFi iPhone in Italy

Can't do FaceTime chat between my Mac in USA on Airport Extreme WiFi and ani iPhone (4s) on hotel or cafe WiFi in Italy.
The Italy end attempts to contact me via my Apple ID (I'm correctly set up, have tested with a local user), but no resullt  I've also tried connecting from my end to the iPhone's Apple ID as well as its phone number. The other user's iPhone has been OK at home with domestic FT chats. Any troubleshooting tips to pass along via iMessage (which works fine)? Thanks.

    Chuck,
Make sure the person with the iPhone has the correct date/time settings for the time zone the iPhone is located in. Usually, this is set automatically, but it doesn't hurt to double check.
Also, it is possible that the public wifi systems that are being utilized by the iPhone do not have enough available bandwidth to support FaceTime.

  • How come my imsg is not syncing properly between iPod touch and Macbook pro?

My imsgs are recieved on my macbook and they used to be simultaneously sent to my ipod too. But now they don't show up as imsg notifications on my ipod, only macbook. When I click in the conversation on my ipod I see the new messages, but I only get a notification on my macbook. How do I fix this so that a notification pops up on both devices?

  • My iCloud is not syncing between my mac and my iPhone and shows the following error message CoreDAVHTTPStatusErrorDomain error 501. what does this mean?!

I have recently upgraded to an iphone 5S 4G and also updated my mac with the latest software so that i can use the icloud to back up all my stuff. It doesn't seem to be working with my contacts at all and recently added ones are disappearing, old ones are duplicating etc. The contacts icloud has the following error message CoreDAVHTTPStatusErrorDomain error 501. and I have no idea what it means. Can anyone help?

I had this problem before. I like to disable extra services to speed up my computer and I disabled the Apple Mobile Device service and had to re-enable this.
You can do that by going Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Once you have gone to the services window, look for Apple Mobile Device and right-click. Select "Properties". There should be some information about the service as well as the label "Startup Type" with a drop-down menu beside it. If it says "disabled", that is your problem; Change the selection to anything except disabled (Automatic is easier and ensures that you can sync as soon as itunes opens).
If this doesn't work, I would look into your anti-virus' settings. Good Luck!

  • Did Mountain Lion break calendar and note sync between the Mac and iPhone?

When I was running Lion, my calendars and notes synced properly between my Mac and iPhone (with notes going into Mail.app). After upgrading to Mountain Lion, the notes on my Mac were moved into Notes.app and my calendars appeared to be unharmed. I've recently noticed that neither my calendars nor my notes are syncing between my Mac and iPhone.
I use iTunes to sync my data (either via USB or WiFi) and have no interest in moving to iCloud. I have tried the suggestion of enabling iCloud sync on my iPhone, then disabling, as well as telling iTunes to overwrite the calendar data on my iPhone. Neither of these approaches has solved my sync problem.

I found a solution to my problem. Hopefully it helps someone else too.
I deleted the following file and folder:
         ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Cache
         ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar Sync Changes/
When I synced my iPhone, I was presented with several sync conflicts to resolve. I resolved them and applied the changes immediately. Now my Mac and iPhone are in sync and I've confirmed that changes are syncing from my Mac to my iPhone (I'll confirm that it works the other direction tomorrow when I can look at my calendar at work).

  • Why does Notes not sync properly?

Why is it that the Notes app does such a poor job of formatting notes synchronized through the iCloud between a Mac and an iPhone? How could a company entrsutesd with their design sensibilities give the customer an applicatoin that completely destroys the format of a note written on a mac being viewed on an iPhone? I've made notes on my Mac and when I view them on my iPhone, the note itself is hanging. It's not formatted the way you would normally view it on your iPhone. Someone please escalate this to Mr. Ive and let him see for himself how such little mishap hampers the user expereince.
    It's ugly and doesn't work!

  • HT1766 Why doesn't Overdrive sync my iPhone to iPad?

Why doesn't Overdrive sync to my iPhone and iPad?

Can you be a little more explicit about what you are trying to do, and what happens when you try? As stated, that isn't much to go on.

  • Not all albums are syncing with between itunes match and iphone 5.. WHY!!!

Not all albums are syncing with between itunes match and iphone 5.. WHY!!!

First, disable iTunes Match on the iPhone. Open the Music app and let the content clear out. Now, in iTunes, disable iTunes Match while holding down the Option key (Shift for Windows). Quit iTunes, wait a few seconds, and re-open it. Turn iTM back on and let it complete it's scan. The songs that are "waiting" ought to get converted to "purchased," "uploaded" or "matched." Once the scan is complete re-enable the service on the iPhone.

  • Syncing Mail Between My iMac and Macbook

I am new to the Mac world (I am a PC convert) and I now have an iMac and a Macbook for work.
I have a couple of questions (some of which belong in this group and some elsewhere but I figured someone here could point me in the right direction):
    1. My company's email does not support IMAP, only POP. What is the best way to keep my email clients sync'ed? Ideally I would like my Inbox and all of my folders to be the same on my desktop and laptop and it would be great if it was automated somehow.
    2. What is the best way to handle my iPhone? Should I make my Macbook the "Sync Master" and only sync it to that?
    3. What is the best way to keep my folders and iTunes sync'ed between my iMac and Macbook? Someone suggested Martian Slingshot as the best way to keep them together. Do other people concur?
Any other advice/experience that people may have on the easiest way to use a Desktop in the office and travel with a sync'ed laptop is appreciated.
As I mentioned, I am very new to the Mac world. I can't really think of any great way to sync them in the PC World either but I am grateful for your help. I know I should have gotten a Macbook Pro but my boss didn't want to get me one so I am stuck with the hardware I have.
    Thanks.
    Jeremy

What I've done with email in the past is set only one of the machines to delete email from the server (if your company allows you that option). But you need to make sure you check with the one that doesn't delete before the other. You may be able to delete manually as well, so don't delete anything from the server until mail has been downloaded to both (I think this can be done in Apple Mail under advanced prefs). But that won't help with tracking replies, etc. And you'll have to manage mailboxes seperately.
.Mac has a bunch of syncing options, but you may not want to go to that expense.
Sorry I don't have any advice on the other stuff, only running 1 Mac.
