Why doesn't iTunes offer me a chance to upgrade an Album?

I have a protected/DRM'ed AAC album (a couple actually) that I bought from the iTunes store, but I have never been offered an upgrade to iTunes+, even though iTunes+ is available? Is there something that I can do to initiated an upgrade if the album doesn't show in Upgrade option?

I have had this problem too, with 'Queen - The Platinum Album' and a disc of violin concertos with Nikolai Znaider as soloist. Seemingly these albums are no longer available in the iTunes store, at least in Germany (the Queen album may still be available in the USA).
I was (relatively) happy to pay for the iTunes+ version as I wanted now to use my iTunes library also with a Sonos multi-room audio system and this does not play DRM protected music. However, it seems that this option is not available.
I also wonder what happens if I lose the original files for the albums and need to replace them. Seems to me that inability to recover purchased music rather invalidates the whole iTunes Store concept. I'll stick to CDs.

  • Whenever I try to update flash player it demands I close a dashboard client, but it doesn't say which one.  I have 10 of them running.  the installer must know which one, why doesn't it offer to close it (or them)?

    see the title.

the installer doesn’t flag the clients…that’s the problem.  if I knew what it was complaining about I would kill it.  please don’t tell me the installer is really saying “kill all the dashboard clients”.  if that’s it then why doesn’t it offer to do it?  either a) it knows where the conflict is but won’t tell me;  or b) doesn’t know even if there is a conflict and leaves it up to me to guess.  great.  sure, I could kill them one by one and eventually find out which one, assuming the answer isn’t b), but I really think the installer could do a better job.  up to me there would be no flash clients and thus no issues.

  • Why doesn't iTunes add protected MPEG-4 audio files to its music library?

Why doesn't iTunes add protected MPEG-4 audio files to its music library?  I copied these files to my iMac from an old PC laptop that no longer has internet access.

After downloading via iTunes, I move MP3 files from the default iTunes podcast folder to another folder (on an a external disk), I also change the name of the file and I change some MP3-tags.
You download from the iTunes store, delete the podcast, mess with it, move it around, rename it, change the tags then try to add it back to iTunes?
I want all my files in one index, the iTunes Music Library
In iTunes, right click - get info, click the Options tab and set *Media Kind:* to Music.

  • Why doesn't apple offer a viewer/file browser for iCloud Drive?

Why doesn't apple offer a viewer/file browser for iCloud Drive?
Dropbox, Microsoft’s OneDrive, and Google Drive all have viewer apps that let you see and manage what’s in the drive.  The only way you can do that with iCloud Drive is through a web browser.  Very frustrating and backward.

I found a possible band-aid for our problem:
    1) On iOS 8 Device, go to Safari / iCloud.com
    2) Once you get to iCloud.com, you'll notice it won't give you the option to log in.
    3) Tap on the URL bar (this should bring up your bookmarks bar and Frequently Visited Sites)
    4) Tap, Hold, and Slide your finger down on that section (this will reveal two options: (1) Add to Favorites, and (2) Request Desktop Site
    5) Tap Request Desktop Site
Log in as usual, and you can now access iCloud Drive with your PDFs and other documents like any other computer.
I too am disappointed as I was looking forward to view PDF's shared between my Macbook and my iPad, but I think this should work until Apple comes out with a solution.

  • Why won't iTunes continue to the next track in an album?

    Hello.
After recently updating to iTunes 5.2 on my primary computer (a 1.5 GHz. 15-inch PowerBook G4 running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard)), iTunes will not continue to the next song in an album once a song is finished. In "Album" view, for instance, if I mouse over an album and click "Play Album," iTunes will play the first track on that album, but then will not proceed to play the next track once the first track is finished playing. What's interesting is that I also cannot click the "Next" button (>>) in the upper left-hand corner of the iTunes window and have iTunes play the next track. If I do press the "Next" button, iTunes will instantly stop all music playback and deselect the highlighted abum (if any).
I have tried rebooting my computer and relaunching iTunes multiple times, but all trials have failed to solve the issue. In addition to restarting my computer, I have also tried reinstalling the iTunes application, but again with no luck.
I've looked through the "Preferences" menu (iTunes - Preferences) and have experimented with some of the vaious settings, but have also failed to find a solution.
In addition to my PowerBook, I have iTunes 10.5.2 running on my MacBook without any issues. The PowerPC archetecture of my PowerBook should not have anything to deal with it, should it?
Any help, suggestions, or comments regarding the issue would be greatly appreaciated.
    Thank you very much.

Okay, I figured out what the problem was. I had to "check" the checkboxes along the left-hand-side of of the track names. iTunes now plays through all of the tracks like it should. :-)

  • Why doesn't itunes 11 (Win) show us the length of podcasts?  Only new ones d/l thru it show, and even then not - when I can use an old version (10) and it shows me much more info.  Am I missing a setting?  Thanks!!!

Cannot see or sort podcasts via itunes 11 (Win) like I could in iTunes 10 .. am I missing something?  Same goes for playlists.  I often take old-time-radio music and/or shows and need them in date-order to make them work (say, ep 1 is one date, ep 2, etc - among dozens of titles).  IS there is a setting or did Apple just get rid of it?  I have a laptop with iTunes 10 but have tried to get used to the newer versions on my Mom's PC. I don't want to update until I can use it the same way.
Serial radio must be in order.  And I have to at least see that in the display to put it in a playlist.  Podcasts that show dates from several years ago in ver. 10 no long show anything like it now.  Nor, btw, does length of file play.  I use it as an over night "podcast radio" and need it to make sense.  aIf I need extra steps outside of iTunes okay.  Just wish Apple had made it clear and it hasn't.
    Thanks!

Once you do get things working... Hardware crashes or virus infections happen, so you should buy software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus, making step-by-step backups during a new install or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

  • Why doesn't iTunes support aac streaming??

My favorite internet radio station streams in AAC+ format, but not mp3, to save bandwidth, which is a worthwhile goal. Considering that Apple was the pioneer of AAC, does anyone have any idea why iTunes doesn't support streaming in either AAC or AAC+ as far as I can tell? It seems kind of silly.
I hope someone from Apple is reading this thread and will maybe add a vote for adding this obviously useful functionality...

Only Apple know, and they're not likely to address a question like this directly. "Not invented here" might have something to do with it.

  • Why doesn't iTunes use track names on burned cd's instead of querying Gracenote?

I run a recording studio and burn cd's of original music for clients. Sometimes when those clients open their cd in itunes, titles and artist names with no connection whatsoever to their music are displayed. Why does itunes not just use the titles burned with the cd instead of automatically querying Gracenote and arbitrarily assigning incorrect titles and artists to the disc? I have even imported such a disc into itunes, changed the titles and artist name, created a new playlist with those songs, and burned a disc from that corrected playlist, only to have it come up wrong again when the new disc is opened in itunes. This needs to be fixed. Some of those clients use the burned discs as booking demos, and having another artist's name and song titles come up causes confusion and embarassment.

    ed2345,
No need for you to be an a-hole.
Fair enough, although you are better off getting that feedback from me than from one of your clients who puts 2 and 2 together.
I clearly stated that quite often these were unfinished projects, often with working titles that may or may not be the final title.
What you "clearly stated" is that your clients are having "confusion and embarassment."  Is that not sufficient for you to get those discs into the database?
....if the names haven't changed will Gracenote accept a submission of the same titles but different running times from the same artist and delete the old one?
If the running times are different, it will look like a different CD to Gracenote.  If the CD is not the final version, you should append its title with "Demo" or "Work in Progress" or a similar indication that will distinguish it from the final "real" version.
You may have a misimpression about Gracenote.  Yes, they are authoritative about commercial CDs, but they have also opened their DB for submissions to any hobbyist with iTunes and a burner.  They have tons of such things in their database.  There is absolutely no need for you to avoid putting your stuff in there.  In fact, since iTunes cannot read CD Text, there is currently no way other than Gracenote to solve the iTunes problem which brought you to this Forum.

  • Why doesn't iTunes match work?

I just got iTunes match and it doesn't work! it uploads the songs that it can't match but it can't even match half of the songs. but thats not my main issue. the issue is the matched songs doesn't sync with the songs in iTunes as if i didn't buy the thing at all. it doesn't give me the artwork, the title (if the old one is incorrect) or any other information that should be changed. it doesn't formate it, to a better quality, as it should. Please keep in mind that these are for the matched songs. i even waited 2 days for it to finish uploading the unmatched songs thinking that it matches the songs when its done. but nothing. Please help, tell me what to do!

  • Why doesn't itunes have an simple upload option for putting CDs and DVDs into my ipod touch library?

I have movies and CDs I don't want to have to purchase again through itunes that I would like to put on my ipod touch without a lot of complicated hassles. I don't understand why it isn't a simple point and click and it happens option on my itunes library list of options. I have four kids and a ton of work and don't have time or expertise to spend figuring out how to make that work by reading through manuals. I don't see the point in buying the same music or movies or books twice. I work in a job that allows me to listen to my ipod while I work. This is a huge perk for an otherwise tedious and boring job, but I don't have time or money to spend buying extra movies or reading a ton of technical information trying to figure this all out. If they can do all the other stuff they do with an ipod touch I don't see why this request should be a serious challenge.
I took a guess on my operating system. I don't know. Do you see the huge list of operating systems? That seems like a lot. It seems to me that everything should be compatible with everything else or people like me that expect to be able to do what other systems can do get really frustrated and irritated when we realize that we can't because capabilities and limitations where not emphasized in the advertising.

HA! I'll add it to my favorites bar... then maybe I will be able to find it again. I just hope I can remember the password and username. You know that they aren't secure unless you change them every six months. Do you realize how many different computer systems and programs I have to engage in work and for personal use?! How in the heck am I supposed to remember all my passwords and usernames?! Oh, and it's not safe to write them down... especially with a bonehead like me that has too many irons in the fire and can't remember where he put his keys!

  • Why doesn't iTunes copy all my files, and how do I know which it left out?

    Hello,
I had iTunes on my old PC, and when I installed it on my new one (Vista Home Premium), it very helpfully deleted everything off my iPod and copied it all back again! As it happens, the only files on the iPod were from the iTunes library, so it didn't matter, but it was annoying.
Anyway, now it has (supposedly) synched my library and iPod, if I look at the library, it shows 1164 songs. If I look at my iPod, it only shows 1157 songs.
How do I know which songs iTunes didn't copy over? More to the point, anyone any idea why it didn't just copy all of them?
    Thanks for any help.

OK, thanks for all the replies.
hmacross: I have checked for duplicates, and there were some there. This was because when I installed iTunes, it insisted on scanning my entire hard disk and adding every audio file it could find, even though I didn't want it to. I only wanted it to add ones in my Music folder. I had to do a fair amount of work to clean this up! Anyway, I just checked again, and there aren't any duplicates in my iTunes library.
Chris: If I look in my iTunes library, and show all the audio files as a big list, at the bottom it gives me the total number of files, and the total play length. If I look at the iPod, I see similar numbers.
After some tidying up, the iTunes library shows 1149 songs, and the iPod shows 1147 songs, so there's still a discrepancy. I have double checked for duplicates, so that's not the issue.
Thanks again. Any further help would be appreciated.

  • Why doesn't iTunes allow the podcasts to be downloaded by Release Date?

I am using iTunes 11.0.2 (25) on my iMac (2010).  I am curious why iTunes does not allow the podcasts to be downloaded by Release Date?
It will help me so much when I create the playlists by Release Date especially when I download the podcasts after their releases.
    Please advice and thank you.

I find that this setting does remove any podcasts that I have already listened to at the time of the next refresh, provided that I have not told iTunes not to delete the podcast (right-click, Do Not Auto Delete). If you need it gone right away, try hitting the refresh button.

  • Why doesn't iTunes always find my iPhone or iPad?

Using iTunes 10.7 and  OS 10.8.2.  I have Airport wifi and good signal.  Many times I will start iTunes and either or both my iPhone and iPad will not show up as devices even though they are sitting right next to me (not using the cord).  Both devices are on my network and active when this happens.  Sometimes both will show up, sometimes one, sometimes neither.
I can't figure out a way to have iTunes "re-scan" for devices, and closing and re-opening iTunes usually doesn't help.

@ sealandia, - What type of printer and Apple device do you have? Have you changed routers or some other part of your set up? If not and the same Apple device, router, and printer are still in use, I would start by making sure that the printer and the device are on the same network. After you have checked to make sure that they are on the same network, I would power cycle the printer, router and device to make sure that they are all synced up as they can get out of sync and then not be able to "see" each other.
    To do that power cycle:
    1. Unplug the router (most do not have an on/off button)
    2. While waiting for at least 30 seconds on the router, completely power down the Apple device, and printer. Make sure that the Apple device
is off and not just in sleep mode. Power the printer down using the power button.
    3. Plug router back in, wait for it to be fully back on and working, then turn printer and phone back on, check network settings.
    4. Attempt to print again after all devices are back on and running.
