Why doesn't Media Encoder like changes to preset settings?

(CS4) Adobe Media Encoder crashes whenever I set the frame rate or screen size in Premiere to be different to the supplied presets. For example, when I select FLV and change the frame rate to 24 instead of 29.97, the CrashReporterApp pops up.
Even if this frame rate is unsupported (and it shouldn't be), why does it cause a system failure?

My guess is that if you are a suspected Terrorist, even one with a P, Homeland Security kicks in in a not too subtle way.
A crash can be caused by many things. To help us help you, please describe Crash more clearly. What is the EXACT message, what happens when and how do you get out if it. Maybe read the following link by clicking on it and follow through the links to the Wiki and How to get help links as well.

  • Why doesn't Apple list the changes in iPhone updates?

Why doesn't Apple list the changes included with each iteration of iPhone updates? They always post a detailed list of changes for all other major software updates. I wonder why the same is not true for the iPhone, leaving us all guessing and wondering...

Just to add, Ansuz82 pointed out, Apple's track record is that they don't really ever give full published details about what their updates include in any of their products really. If the iPhone is your first product by Apple you may not be aware of this. To them, saying Bug Fixes is enough. If they publicly add more info, it means they really wanted to get that point out. eg: the 1.1.1 mainly just talked about iTunes WiFi store. 1.1.2 mainly talked about the Tiff exploit fixed and keyboard updates for languages. However, with all, a lot more does get changed than just the key points mentioned. And by a lot, I don't mean a lot that you will see. Have to remember, they are still ironing out the OS for the iPhone. A lot of changes to them is just cleaning up and fixing known bugs that many of us as users may not even know exisit (though we see the outcome of them when apps colide and crash each other).

  • Media Encoder PCM or Dolby Digital Settings change preset????

I am about to Encode a 2 and a half hour project from PPRO 5.5 into Media Encoder.
If I set my format to H.264 Blu-Ray and my Pre set to 1440 x 1080i 29.97 High Quality, My audio automatically sets to PCM Audio? Why?
When I use the H.264 Blu-Ray with my Pre set to 1440 x 1080i 29.97 High Quality, and I Press the Dolby Digital as my audio instead of PCM, my Preset changes to Custom. (1440 x 1080i goes away)
Why is this? Is that what is supposed to happen?
I had read that Dolby takes up less space without losing that much quality.
I'm trying to encode this file to about 15GB with keeping the best quality Audio and Video I can.

    Jim,
In case you missed it, his program is 2hours 40 minutes, so in that case, space is at a premium and I would go for the Dolby.
It is normal for Media Encoder to create PCM audio, that is OK, Encore will TRANSCODE it to Dolby later and shrink it down.
Edwurd, please see you other posting for more info about encoding size
    Thanks
    Jeff
    Jeff is right.
Let Media Encoder make the .264 and .wav files and have Encore automatically transcode the pcm to ac-3 (since it's licensed to do so and AME is not). Don't multiplex them into a mp4 or mov container; it'll make it blu-ray illegal (even though Encore will allow you to import it).

  • Why does Adobe Media Encoder fail to export Quicktime Files?

I'm using Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit PC.
While exporting the Quicktime variant of H.264 for ATSC television broadcast files, Adobe Media Encoder fails.  Non-Quicktime H.264's render correctly, but some television stations require quicktime.
Troubleshooting reveals the problem only occurs when attempting to make a 1920x1080 H.264 QuickTime file.
Using the same original file (1920x1080), Adobe Media Encoder WILL export a 720x480/486 H.264 MOV file.
More interesting still, it will ALSO export at 1280x720.
Testing this information to it's limits, I found that the cutoff for a successful render is between a frame size of 1610x906 and 1609x905.
Useless, random sizes, I know... but that's the breaking point for Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.3.1 to be precise) and H.264 Quicktime files.

I'm trying to make a file with the extension ".MOV" using AME's "HD 1080i 29.97, H.264, AAC 48kHz" preset.  AME fails every time with the following message:
    "Encoding Failed
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error."
Any other file extension (MP4, M4V, etc.) renders fine.  The issue seems only to happen when attempting to make an MOV file.  It doesn't seem to matter whether I use AME's built-in preset, or customize my own render settings--the problem always happens with any MOV larger than the size I mentioned above.
All of this used to work just fine on the same machine 2 years back with Adobe CS5, previous version of windows and QuicTime.  I've been all through the Adobe and Windows possibilities, so I'm grabbing at straws here with QuickTime maybe having something to do with it.
    Interesting.
Would you happen to know if Adobe has made any changes to its manner of muxing long-address MPEG-4 AVC data to the MOV file container? Since the MP4 and M4V files encode properly, have you tried opening these files in a media player and simply using the "Save As..." option to move the date to an MOV file container without transcoding audio or video data? I.e., is there any obvious relationship between the size of the MOV file encode (less than/greater than 4 GB) as a function of the resolution "break point" previously discovered?

  • Is Adobe Media Encoder like Compressor?

Is it best to export a finished sequence in a lossless format and then encode for distribution through Media Encoder?  Is AVI/UT a good choice for the initial export?
    Thanks,
    James

There is no need to export to an intermediate file. Export directly from Premiere, File > Export > Media
    OR
Import the Premiere Pro sequence(s) directly into AME  (File . Add Premiere Pro Sequence) and code to whatever you want.

  • Why wont Adobe Media Encoder open?

every time I try to open it it says: "Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014.0 has stopped working." And i have tried exporting from Premiere Pro, opening it directly, and all of the above. Please Help!

Have you ever been able to launch AME before?  Did it stop working suddenly or never launch?
Please try deleting two folders "Media Cache" and "Media Cache Files" from <OS drive>:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common.  Then, please hold shift + launch.

  • Why doesn't the "more like this" section offer suggestions anymore in the netflix app?

In the netflix app there is an area labeled "More like this" and it usually show suggestions of other movies.  After the last ATV update, it just shows "More like this..." but it doesn't show any movie suggestions.  When I spoke with netflix, they said the problem was with Apple since they design the netflix app.

I would also like to know why the suggestions are missing.  It seems to work when you select movies outside netflix.

  • Why does my media look like this?

The media is a 16 gb image sequence turned into a .mov file by Quicktime Player 7. Doesn't work when I try to add it to my timeline or even play through Final Cut Pro. The .mov file plays fine through VLC. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!

Yep, file opens and plays in QT player (though a little laggy).

  • Why doesn't my iPad screen change directions anymore?

The content on my screen no longer goes from vertical to horizontal I wonder why? Any suggestions?

If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to the Control Center. The software lock will be in the top row of the control center to the right.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button

thats interesting, the product manager is saying it's photoshops fault, and you're saying it's a problem with their metadata modification.
This is their response to you. It would be fantastic if I could get this sorted. thanks for all your help so far, it is much appreciated.
So Photoshop has a "double standard" for reading the EXIF Horizontal/Vertical resolution fields, they do it one way with general images and another way with Photoshop generated images. But I'm not saying that they are doing something "not-quite-right" since they are the ones setting the laws
Unfortunately we don't know how Photoshop reads the resolution for images generated by Photoshop so there is nothing that we can do about this.

  • Why doesn't Photoshop work like Motion?

Hi there, I'd like to know if I'm alone on this:
Motion is far more intuitive than PS.
I use PS often but in many cases I end up using Motion to make stills with elements such as text etc. Click and drag, visible filters which can be tweeked inmediately, the HUD etc. All those features make Motion a for more logical program. And if I'm not alone: wouldn't there be a place for a photoshop-like application for Apple to develop in Motion-style?
    Ben

Well, while we're comparing Apple and Photoshop programs that are kind of, maybe a little similar but aren't used for the same functions - does anyone wanna bring up Motion and Flash - ungghh Flash makes my brain hurt and then I go and sob in the corner for awhile until I go back to Motion like a lost puppy. I think Motion is wayyyy more intuitive than just about any Adobe product but Adobe has some great features - so you just have to be willing to hurt your brain a little. But Flash......seriously.....can't we just use layers and groups?

  • Why doesn't the line break change w/font size??

    Hello,
I am trying to print out a simple paragraph (String object) to the printer. I am trying to get the text to wrap properly based on font size. I've search on the posts and can't find the answer.
It looks like the LineBreakMeasurer is only working with default font size? No matter what font I use in the graphics, the string always seems to break in the same column? Any ideas?
Here is a sample of the code I'm using.
Note - the actual printing (draw) is commented out.)

  • Why doesn't my imac like my fonts?

I am a graphic designer and as of late, using Adobe Indesign is a massive headache. It is almost totally unresponsive. Other programs freeze and have the spinning beachball too. It is impossible to work effectively. My programs freeze every couple of minutes. Due to the feedback I get from Console, I am assuming that fonts are the problem. Dealing with fonts is a big part of my job, so I'd love to figure out how to make my mac and fonts get along.
This is what Console says about the situations:

    About my Computer
I am running Mavericks OSC Version 10.9
Processor: 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them.
From the application's menu bar, select
    File ▹ Restore Standard Fonts...
You'll be prompted to confirm, and then to enter your administrator login password.
Boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also note that if you deactivate or remove any built-in fonts, for instance by using a third-party font manager, the system may become unstable.
