Why doesn't Mozilla Firefox admit Profile bug, regarding "unresponsive plugin" Shockwave problem?

I'm a longtime user, more than 10 years, of Firefox and of Netscape before that. This is the first time I've ever seen "unresponsive plugin," let alone for Shockwave. I followed _every_ solution suggested. Checked up-to-date of plugins and reinstalled several even though they were up to date. Even reinstalled Firefox. Ran a complete Norton scan on my system (totally clear). Finally. On the ADOBE help forum, not on Mozilla's (!!!), someone said that blowing away their Profile and starting anew fixed the problem. This is a drastic step, because it nukes every saved Firefox bookmark and setting. BUT IT WORKS. Dear Mozilla Progammers: You have a PROFILE bug. Please admit it and fix it.

Hi cumulus, <br/> sorry you have had a problem.
It is good to know it is fixed. Had you posted here first you would almost certainly have fixed your issue without loosing bookmarks.
Everyone's profile is different it contains the individual users settings
* see [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
Using a new profile may well be one fix for some such problems although it is the proverbial sledgehammer and nut approach. There is a long thread about this that I recently locked as it was getting totally unreadable.
* Warning: Unresponsive Plugin; Shockwave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. [/questions/957423]
** The Firefox Reset one popular solutions removes most of the profile
** A clean reinstall could optionally remove the Firefox Profile
** Other solutions and topics are linked from that thread.
* Creating a new profile and trying using that would have been a better suggestion <br /> [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
This sort of problem can have more than one cause. If removing the profile solves the issue then a less drastic method that almost certainly would work is to create and use a new profile and use that ''without'' destroying the original profile. (Copy the original profile elsewhere)
* see [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
It is highly likely that only part of the profile causes the problem.
* [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]
As noted in the other thread this forum is not a place where you will get developer attention.
===Do you have the ''Profile Bug'' ?===
<u>OR Unresponsive Plugin Problem, with FlashPlayer </u>
If there is a ''profile bug'' then a bug report may be filed for developers attention, and the first stage of doing that is to be able to carefully document steps to reproduce the problem
*. So anyone ''blowing away the profile'' should first of all back it up
**Being able to reinstall the faulty profile should then reproduce the problem and so demonstrate clearly that the profile is the cause of the problem <br /> Or just use the profile manager to switch profiles it is simpler and quicker
** Next even before considering filing a bug try reinstalling or activating different parts of the profile to narrow down the problem.
If anyone does run in to this bug and needs help

  • Why doesn't Mozilla Firefox officially support HTTP 1.1 pipelining yet?

This is really more of a philosophical question than a technical one, but I thought I'd mention it. While investigating ways to improve my browsing speed in general, I even found a Bugzilla ticket from 2004 debating this issue.
While I understand Mozilla wants to reduce the number of problems end users have, turning this option on in my browser has greatly increased the speed by which major websites load.
Since I'm asking, I would like to make sure. I'm currently using a web proxy and have both "network.http.pipelining" and "network.http.proxy.pipelining" set to TRUE. Is this the appropriate way to enable this feature?
    Thanks In Advance.

If that works better for you, use it by all means. Certainly both browser and proxy should be set the same way. I found that pipelining did not help with Mac browsers, but did help with Windows browsers with a proxy that supported it.

  • Why doesn't Mozilla fix the Yahoo problem - it is a hacking issue?

Dozens of people have strongly complained about Yahoo inserting itself in Firefox and hiding itself so it cannot be removed. This has been going on for at least a month.
Why doesn't Mozilla do something to prevent Yahoo from HACKING into Firefox.? It is an obvious attempt to pre-empt people's browser of choice. Surely there is someone in the Mozilla group who can either alter the code to block Yahoo or at least come up with a solution that lets the average user remove the stupid Yahoo software.
    Thanks

What a pathetic joke - the instructions to remove the unwanted Yahoo search engine tell you to open up the search engine list and remove Yahoo. BUT YAHOO IS NOT DISPLAYED IT IS HIDDEN AND CANNOT BE REMOVED.
That horrible fact is what is so annoying. It is willfully hidden by either Mozilla or Yahoo forcing it down the throats of people who do not want it!!
And a search on one's entire system does not turn up any reference to Yahoo.
ONE MORE TIME, THIS IS MY COMPUTER NOT MOZILLA'S OR YAHOO'S.
Please do what you know perfectly well is the right thing to do and provide a viable method for users to get rid of Yahoo.
Why, Alice, can't you specifically answer my questions instead of spouting the drivel about providing features for a broad range of customers. There are hundreds if not thousands of user that are not happy about this stupid problem.

  • What's the searchplugins folder and why doesn't its content show up in the Manage Plugins menu?

Today on my first Search bar attempt, my search page got redirected from Google to www.bigseekpro.com, which I had never heard of. I checked my Plugins and Addons, it didn't show up there. But my home page had also been hijacked, from the tabs I normally go to, to only go to this new page. I did find in C:\uerdatada\appdata\roaming\mozilla\firefox\profiles\cawypqyo.default a new folder created a few moments before, \searchplugins, and in this a file search.xml, which contained xml commands to redirect the search activity.
These look suspicious: the first command sets xmlsn:os to "http://a9.com", which I can't seem to find anything on with whois or tracert; bigseekpro.com itself traces to its registry at godaddy.com, but that's about all I'm finding.
If this is a legitimate place for Firefox to look for a plugin, why doesn't the Firefox plugin manager tell me it found something there? And why couldn't the Help articles on "Search not going where you want it to" also tell me about this?
Any ideas? Am I right to be highly suspicious of this behavior?

Search engine plugins are kept separate from Add-ons (Extensions, Plugins, Appearance). Search plugins, both the default search engines supplied with Firefox and those that you install will be shown in the Search Bar (see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Search_Bar Search Bar]).
The folder '''''searchplugins''''' in your Profile folder ('''the path you mentioned''') is for search engines '''''added by you or something that you have installed'''''. You can remove any found in the Profile folder in the '''''searchplugins''''' sub-folder. The items there '''''may''''' make/have made changes to other search functions in Firefox.
*Are searches from your '''Location Bar''' going to the place and/or search engine you expect?
*Are searches from your '''Search Bar''' going to the place and/or search engine you expect?
'''''The default search engines included with Firefox''''' are not in that folder in your Profile, but are located in a folder by the same name in the Programs folder where Firefox itself is installed. See [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory Finding the Installation directory]

Same problem with the mouse, but with the mouse I can leave the cursor in place in the text field and move to the keyboard to type. As long as the cursor is in the field it stays editable.
The problem with the pen is it's in my hand all of the time. I just flip it up under my thumb against my palm to type. So, as soon as I move the pen, the field goes away and I can't type in it. Hoping this is making sense.
My tablet does have the touch function too, and I just found out I can use my finger to tap in the text field, then type. I guess that'll be my solution since I prefer not to leave a mouse set up on this iMac.
I'm thinking now that this is just a problem with the pen itself, and nothing to do with iPhoto. So glad to have this figured out! I really like iPhoto '11! So much easier for me, a simple P&S gal, than Aperture 3. I use iPhoto Library Manager too and love it!
    Thanks so much! Debbie

  • Why will not Mozilla-Firefox not open in the version 3.5.16? The schoolonly supports version 3.0

My question is why does Mozilla Firefox version 3.5.1.6 not work when it always had in the past since 2009 approximately.
The only thing different is that I did purchase Norton 2011 then upgraded to Norton 2012 Anti-Virus Protection Suite.
The School I go to will only support Version 3.0 Firefox. I have installed the version 7.0 from your sight by clicking download. I used the older version 3.5.1.6 on my laptop as well with no problems but now it won't work and they both crash. I have clicked on send reports but no answers yet. The laptop as well as my desktop had viruses from a server that I used which I found out had two computers which weren't virus protected with current updated signatures. This was McAfee "Total Protection Suite" which did not give me any protection at all and this is what happened, and it should have at least blocked me from getting onto the Internet through the server. I only used this server as a gateway only. I never had this problem with AVG Protection Anti-Virus Suite, but then I changed to McAfee, which the server uses, and this is when all my problems started because two computers on this network were not protect with updated virus signatures. The viruses crashed my Laptop and almost my desktop as well. I ran Norton and this took care of the problem on my desktop and then I ran Malwarebytes and Hitman both Virus Scanners and removed all 53 viruses, PUPS, and other Malware.
I reinstalled both of the Mozilla Firefox version 3.5.2.6 and I got the message that said sorry the browser crashed and click OK to send a report to Firefox which I did. I can't start school without Mozilla Firefox as the School only supports Firefox 3.0. As I had corrupted files from the problems with all the Malware and I have resolved most of the issues now except that I will have to upgrade to Windows 7 "Home Premium" and I am working with Dell Tech. Support with this and trying to complete as much as possible before I call them back.
Will I be able to use the older version and is Norton 2012 the program causing the older versions not to work?

You can install the portable Firefox 3.6.x version, that comes with its own profile, to access websites that do not work with Firefox 5+.
    *http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/localization#legacy36
You probably need to create a new profile because the SQLite version used in Firefox 3.5 is not compatible the the SQLite version that is used by current Firefox versions.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • After 5 Releases, Why Doesn't Mozilla Care About Memory Leaks?

I'm baffled as to why this is still a problem. After a few hours of use, my memory usage while using Firefox 5.0 is at 1.5GB. I've followed every FAQ, disabled every extension, done everything to stop the memory leaks when using this browser and I'm growing very tired.
I have a Core i7 MacBook Pro with 4GB RAM and Firefox still manages to bring it to it knees. I've been a devoted Firefox user since 2002-3 and I've just about lost my faith in this browser.
Chrome is a featureless, ugly, dinky browser that I hate to use, but it leaves Firefox in its dust performance-wise. Where is the happy medium? I don't get it.
My favorite answer is always, "disable your extensions." Here are the problems with that:
    1. Without extensions, Firefox is nothing. I might as well use Chrome.
    2. It never seems to help, and when it does a little, it is difficult to figure out which extensions are doing the most damage. Why doesn't Firefox provide a way to look at which extensions are using the most memory?
    3. Firefox should lay that smack down on extensions that could potentially leak memory, and yet, nothing. It should at least steal memory back when it gets out of control, regardless of what extension is using it.
    4. Mozilla recommends some extensions that are supposed to help reduce memory usage, but none of them work on OS X.
I'm exhausted. I shouldn't have to restart my browser a million times day to get anything done. Where are the real solutions? How do years go by with problems like this still getting worse? Firefox 5 was supposed to be better at handling memory, but it's only gotten worse for me.
When will the madness end? We don't want new features, we want performance! I've always loved this browser, but is it really a surprise that Chrome is taking over?
To sum it up, if your browser is slower than Internet Explorer, you need to hurry up and fix the problem or pack it up and go home.

My sentiments exactly!! I have all the exact same complaints and concerns, and I've also tried the solutions provided at no avail.
This the only beef I have with FireFox, but it's a bad one and I've been shopping around for a better browser. Chrome is the best alternative I've found, but it still isn't quite at parity yet.
Please fix this issue or at least make an attempt at it to let your users know it's somewhat of a future priority.
Attached a screen shot of memory usage after 1 hour, and this is the new FF 5 update.

  • Why doesn't my Firefox 4.0 Beta 3 Look like the beta 1 in the video? Like, where is the yellow firefox button?

Ok, so i've been looking froward to the new beta, and i always wanted the yellow Firefox button and the smart download section, instead of the old pop-up one witch is annoying by the way.
I'm currently using the Firefox 4.0 Beta 3.
And the only thing that is changed is that the taps on the top..
but it's not see through or anything like in the preview videos.
    Please help!

Some of the new things are not shown by default in XP but easily established.
Right click on a toolbar space and
    * Uncheck the Menu Bar; this will hide the Menu Bar and show the orange Firefox Button in the top left hand corner. You can toggle from one to the other.
    * Check Tabs on Top. This will move the Tab Bar above the Navigation Bar - remember you are not showing the Menu Bar. I must admit that I prefer tabs in their traditional place where they are nearer the web page action.
For moved and combined buttons this will help -

  • Why isn't Mozilla Firefox available on the MOST SELLED and MOST WISHED tablet on the market? The iPad! I mean, Firefox home is not even an universal app.

    Hello Anonyme.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • Why does my Mozilla Firefox 6.02 hang every few minutes. Its has been going on for years. "Not Responding" you can close and reopen and its fine, or wait 30 seconds and it goes back to normal, others like MSN, Opera, Chrome not having this problem.

Oh and before I get disable your add ons, update and any other Generic crap. I did. ALL of that. Deleted Firefox completely then reinstalled it. Still the same error, my laptop in my office no problems my desktop "Not responding" wow.

Switched to chrome on that computer. Seems to be the only solution that works. Mozilla, I know you are a good browser, I have sung your praises for years. But if you need to do all that technical stuff to get it to stop. Its really easier just to download another browser. Sorry. If you get your glitched corrected, I would be happy to come back. But I'm sorry I don't have that much time to waste.
