Why doesn't my .AVi file import into iMovies

I cannot get iMovies to recognise my .AVI files (from my Samsung ST50).
I can download the files from my camera to my hard drive (so the computer recognises them), and I can play them via Quicktime, so I know they work. But I can't import the .AVI files into iMovies. It seems to process the video when I go to 'Import'>'Movies'...- then nothing appears. I just get a 'No Matching Video' message in the event folder.
However my previous camera (an old Pentax Optio S40) produced .AVI's which I can import into iMovies. Are all AVI's not the same? Or is it a setting in my new camera (I'm not too tech savvy!).

Hi Rocco,
Looks like we missed this post when you first asked. Sorry about that.
What message are you receiving when you try to print? What version of Windows do you have installed?  If you're running Win7, you may be facing this issue: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat-com/kb/createpdf-desktop-printer-windows-7.html

  • Why won't some .gif files import into Adobe Premiere 11?

    Hello! New to Premiere here.
I'm working on a project which involves processing roughly 200 animated .gifs taken from the internet. Many of them will import nicely into Adobe Premiere 11.
The problem is that not all of them will do this. Many of them will give the following message and freeze the entire import process.
This seems like a strange error message to get because
    a) It seems to say here that the .gif format IS supported
    b) There don't seem to be any codecs for this 11.
The gif that produced that error message is below:
What especially frustrates me is that a gif with similar resolution and size will import, but the one above will not. Below is an example of a gif that will import into Adobe Premiere 11:
Is there an explanation for why this is the case? I have looked up this issue extensively on the internet, and every other person with this issue seems either to be stumped or find a solution for a much older version such as Premiere 8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

I'm happy to announce to you all that my "mp4 importing" issues has been sorted out. Now I import mp4 shot with the same Windows Phone 8 Device into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Only that for the moment, it doesn't play as fast as with ordinary player.
    But how did I get it to work, you may wonder;
I simply installed Itunes on the system, I also installed an app called media monkey. I can't say which of the apps did the magic but the next time I tried to import mp4 files into Premiere Pro after these installations, it imported seamlessly.
Obviously there's a link between the required codecs and the itunes itself.
You may want to try it and hope it works for you.
Kindly inform us if it works.
    Thank you all.
    Cheers.

  • AVI file imports into Premiere Elements but not Premiere Pro CS5.5

I tried to import an avi file into Premiere Pro 5.5, only to get the message: "Unsupported format or damaged file." The weird thing is, I have no problem importing the same file into Premiere Elements 1.0 and Premiere Elements 3.0. From the message boards, I somewhat understand that avi is a container and that there are actually 1000s of different formats within that "avi" label. Anyone know why PE is more capable than Pro on this task? Any solutions?
    Geoff.

Well... what is inside that AVI file?

  • Avi file imports into Premiere CS5.5 but not CS6

I'm trying to move a project from CS5.5 to CS6.   I have several SD avi files that CS6 says can't be imported because they're "damaged or un-supported".   After several experiments I found -
    1) The existing CS5.5 project works fine.
    2) A new CS5.5 project can import the files that fail in CS6.
    3) The files play fine in Windows Media Player.
    4) Removing Media Cache and Preview files had no effect on the issue.
I'm running Premiere 6.0.3 (most recent Cloud version) on 64-bit Windows 7.

Exactly what is inside the files?

  • 3gp files | import into iMovie?

Does anyone know how I can get 3gp video files (that I took on my cellphone) into iMovie for editing.
I would have thought there would be some sort of automated conversion but iMovie doesn't seem to like the file format.......

I am wondering the same thing. The fact that iMovie will export 3gp usually would indicate that the user can import it. I am capable of converting these files into an iMovie acceptable format, but would prefer not to if it can be avoided.

  • Why does my video skip when importing into iMovie?

I'm using a Canon HD video camcorder (HV20) to import my home videos into iMovie.  After starting the import, the video being recorded in iMovie often "skips" (flickers on the computer screen / sound is also affected) yet the video playing on the camcorder plays without any issues.  Can someone help?

You would get better results if you convert the MP4 ciips into Apple Intermediate Codec before editing. After editing you can render them back into MP4 if you want.
MPEG Streamclip (free) will do this conversion. Or get iMovie 09 and it will do it.

  • Why won't .avi files import into premiere pro cs6?

I have some GoPro footage in .avi format that won't import to Premiere Pro cs6. Anyone have suggestions?

AVI is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

  • Why won't my RAW files import into LR4?

    Hello all,
Something very strange is going on with LR4.  I have been using LR since version 1 and never had this happen before.  When I have an SD card filled with jpegs and RAW files from my Fuji X100 camera and try to import all of them into LR 4, ONLY the jpeg files get imported.  None of the RAW files get moved into LR at all.  I have to create a new folder, move all the RAW files so that they are alone, and do a second import.  Why is this?  Why cannot I import all at one time, not even thinking about the difference?
Seems absolutely stupid that my RAW files are being ignored.
Thanks for the help.  Appreciate it.

    treborsetag wrote:
Sorry, I assumed that you were shooting RAW + jpg.  What I think you are now saying is that you have a shoot in which some of the files were shot in RAW and some in jpg?  In that case, I don't know why it would only import RAW on the first go round and jpgs on the second. When I have mixed files (I shoot only RAW, but panoramas  are by definition only jpgs), they all import on the first try. In fact, even video files come in at the same time.
If you did shot RAW+Jpg then you could either check the box, in which case you will see two files, or uncheck it, in which case you will see one (with the other hidden). But since that's not the case, that check box doesn't apply to you.
Right.  Most of my shots are jpegs.  But on rare occasions, I want a RAW file so I hit the RAW button on the X100 and then shoot RAW for one shot.  This last import I had 10-15 RAW shots and they would not import along with all the jepgs.  This happens everytime I have mixed file formats.  Very frustrating.
    Thanks for trying!

  • Keynote: Why don't edited photo files import into application?

I cropped photo's in the Photo then imported them into Keynote but the cropped images went into keynote in their original unedited format? Why???

  • Why aren't my NEF files importing into Lightroom 5 anymore?

I have a Nikon D7100 camera that I shoot Raw in.  I've imported these NEF files into Lightroom 5 from my camera on previous occasions, but recently I wanted to import new photos.  The new photos show on Lightroom's import screen but when I click on the import button the software acts like it is beginning the import process but never does, eventually showing a warning box saying the files could not be read.  What is going on and how can I fix it?

    From Marta K Tollerup,
Thanks to all who offered help with my importing problems.  I did find the problem.  I discovered that somehow the destination file was changed so Lightroom didn't know where to import to.  If you have a Mac and your run into this problem this is how I solved it.  Hook up your card reader or camera to your computer and proceed through your usual importing steps except for clicking the Import Button.  Look at the left hand side of your import dialog box (Source area) you should see a cascade of files, one inside another.  It starts with the name of your Hard Drive, then users, then your user name, then Pictures, then a file just called 2014.  This file named 2014 inside the Picture folder is what had been changed on my computer.  Once I choose it again my photos imported without any problems.  Hope this helps anyone else having a sudden problem importing your photos.  For Mac users go into your Finder and look in the Picture Folder.  You will find where Lightroom stores your photos.  I'm assuming PC users have something similar.  It helps to know where your photos are stored because then you can spot an error in the Source area of the import dialog box.

  • Why doesn't a Wav file import convert to AAC?

    Hello,
I tried the "add file to library" and the "import" menu options to add a wav file to itunes. For both methods, I found that although the file gets added to my library, its not in AAC format which is my default import format in my preferences.
I can tell its not in AAC format by the 1400kbps rate which is normal CDA quality and not compressed. Also the file size is huge.
Any ideas on how to import wav files from my hard drive to itunes library on same hard drive?
    Thanks for all help.
Generic P4 3.4 Ghz   Windows XP Pro   Video iPod 30GB

Once you have added the WAV file to your library, select it. In the upper-right corner of your iTunes window, where it normally says Burn Disk, it should say Convert (or something to that effect).
Clicking the icon will convert the file to the format and bitrate you have set in iTunes preferences.
Once you convert the file, you can delete the WAV file from iTunes if you wish.

  • Kodak xi8 doesn't show up for importing into iMovie '08

When I connect the xi8, it immediately loads iPhoto. I close that and open iMovie. When I select import from camera, I can only see the built in camera (even though I can clearly import the movie onto my hard drive or into iPhoto.
Am I missing something? Or is there a setting I'm unaware of?

I don't have your exact problem but my Imovie 08 will not start at all. I've been trying to fix it for 2 weeks. Looks like it might be a Quick Time plug in issue perhaps--but it didn't start till after I got my new HD Kodak. I've sent the reports to Apple but no word back.

  • Why do some AVI files not import into iMovie?

Some of my AVI video does not import into iMovie. When I try, it gives me a non-specific error message. Is there a way I can import it? Other AVI files import with no problem.

AVI is a container, not a format; the audio and video in an AVI may use any codec, and some codecs can't be used in Mac OS X. Installing Perian may help.

About Final Cut ProX: why a red line appears at the top o a file imported into a New Event? then when I restarted the Project that files comes as "Missed files" How can i fix it? Thank you very much.

Where are you importing from – a camera or computer? If you are optimizing at import, make sure the background processes are completed. (Command-9)

  • Why do 4 video clips import into iMovie and one doesn't?

I attempted to import 5 short clips into my MacBook Pro from the same event, shot with an ipad2.  Four of the clips easily imported into iMovie.  IMovie said that the fifth clip wouldnt import because it is 'not compatible with iMovie'. All of the clips are 1280x720, H.264/AAC, encoding 7.0.2. Importing to IMovie 11, version 9.0.9.  I've read thru some of the strings but haven't quite found this problem. Any ideas?
    thank you

I think this is an SD memory card camera. It does not work in a format that FCE uses. FCE only works with DV, HDV or AVCHD material. Everything else has to be converted to a format FCE works with.
