Why doesn't my clear history completely clear my history

Hi there,
I'm trying to clear all of the browsing history from my Firefox but it's not working. The function clears all of my searches and website preferences and passwords bar one or two websites. I've ticked all of the options for clearing history, apart from 'form and search history' as it won't let me tick this box. I also deleted all of my bookmarks, ran a CC cleaner and STILL there's search history when I start to type into the bar at the top. When I go into my history --> show all history having cleared it, it says that there is nothing there...
For example.. when I start to type P in the bar at the top.. UK Parliament immediately comes up. And my bar at the top of the page isn't one of those where you can just automatically search via Google so I don't think its doing that!...
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox but even so some websites are STILL there! How can I track these websites down and get rid of them?
Thanks for your help!!

Drag Places to the Trash. Quit Firefox. Empty Trash. That should work. It just worked for me after I got the same "in use" message.

• Why doesn't "secure erase" ever complete?

RE: OS X 10.6.7
I've set up Filevault on my Macbook Pro. Didn't take too long.
I selected secure erase of the original home folder in the background. It's been going on for days. Sys prefs reports that it is "10% complete." Percent never changes.
The drive is 500GB. 242GB used; 221GB available. Also a 32GB Bootcamp partition.
The encrypted home folder info reports 931GB capacity; 221GB available; & 710GB used. Not immediately clear what this means.
When the system starts up, activity monitor reports high rates (~100MB/sec) of writes; after a few minutes this drops down to 4.0-to-8.0MB/sec.
By now hundreds and hundreds of GB have been written.
Will it ever finish?

Topher,
Thanks, your point is clear. Perhaps mine isn't.
The secure erase operation was not initiated by me to delete arbitrary files, after Filevault was setup and the original un-encrypted home folder was erased. I'm not there yet!
Rather, this is the secure erase that I selected, which was offered following the creation of the Filevault, to delete the original, un-encrypted home folder.
Some progress is now being reported: The "10% complete" message, now says "88% complete."
Available space has increased from 221GB to 275GB. Perhaps if will finsih in the next day or two, on its own.
Since my original post, I had some success in finding older posts and discussions about FV issues & older OS X versions. They're troublesome--FV not working with Time Machine, etc. I use TM at home with the 3 Macs here, and I was interested in setting up FV on all of them. The iBook G3 runs 10.4 of course. Not clear anymore that this plan is any good.
Also I have a a volunteer task for a non-profit, with a PowerMac G4 Gigabyte 10.4 system, that should have something like FV installed--at least some member data encrypted--and needs a backup system as well.
If FV & TM from Apple are not good solutions, what are?

• Why doesn't DW CS4 show complete property panel?

I've just switched over from "Brand X" to Dreamweaver CS4. I am running a 1680 x 1050 resolution monitor with Windows VISTA Home Premium 32-bit OS.
The property inspector panel only partially shows the left sides of the "Title" and "Target" drop down lists, so there is no way I can select an item from the drop downs. How can I fix this?

• I cannot completely Clear Recent History; one url keeps showing up even after clearing. Why?

When I click on the Clear Recent History button, it appears that all categories are cleared. However, when I log back on, the drop-down menu of the URL bar shows that one previous URL from October 3, 2011, has not been cleared--has never been cleared, in fact. It is always the same address, which is: us.mc393.mail.yahoo.com/mc/welcome?gx=/&.tm=1317702807&.rand=42rlbj6nchdgv#_pg=showMessage&sMid=3&&filterBy=&.rand=248392308&midIndex=38...
It is the only item to appear in the drop-down menu.
Why is this happening, and how do I clear the history completely?
Thank you.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

• How do you turn off search history completely forever (not clear)?

When I open up Safari and visit Google.com and start typing, previous searches appear in a list below the search box. The last item on the search box is a link that says, "Clear History". When I click that it says, "Click OK to clear the following searches from history:"
homemade receipes for PF Chang
cure for explosive diarrhea
define Semper Ubi Sub Ubi
transfering to another school
Go to preferences for more options.
I go to preferences and nothing happens! Why doesn't it take me to the settings I need? I guess the technology isn't possible yet. When that day comes please tell me how to turn off this setting forever. Thanks.

You can use private browsing in safari When the safari app is open at the bottom left corner tap on the two square icons and after to the left you should see private. Turn this on and no history is saved

• Completely clearing history in safari

Hello,
I was just wondering how you clear your search history form the safari address bar. Even if I reset safari, or clear my cache or history, when I type even a single letter into the address bar, It still shows address I have typed in the past. Is there a way to clear this completely? Thanks

If you use private browsing from the drop down menu it gives you:
When private browsing is turned on, webpages are not added to the history, items are automatically removed from the Downloads window, information isn't saved for AutoFill (including names and passwords), and searches are not added to the pop-up menu in the Google search box. Until you close the window, you can still click the Back and Forward buttons to return to webpages you have opened
regards.
In the meantime use a software like Yasu or TechTool to perform a system clean up

You can clear the search bar history if you right-click the search bar text area: Clear Search History
You can also use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear "Form & Search History"

• Why are website icons now removed when history is cleared?

Hi,
Just a very quick question:
Why are website icons now removed when you clear the history in Safari?
I have noticed this in the current Lion (and Mountain Lion) versions, this happens, when in previous versions they remained after clearing the history.
Is there any way to change this?
Thanks!

Safari 6
Safari > Help (menu in the menubar) > Show All Help Topics
Search term "Clear History".
"Clearing your history also empties caches, removes website icons, and clears the list of recent searches. Website icons are small graphics that help identify sites on the Internet. You see them in the address and search field, the bookmarks list, and other places. You can see your recent searches by clicking the magnifying glass at the left end of the address and search field when it’s empty".
That is how clearing history works in Safari 6.
There is no way change it.
Best.

When I log into my acc it ammediatly says there's a problem with my last purchase and to go to my purchase history to clear it. When I hit continue its suppose to take me to the history but it just loads then says cannot connect

the itunes says that it knows that there isan ipod there, but it doesnt recognize it. I have reset the ipod, restarted my computer, and reinstalled itunes.
Doublechecking. Have you tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components (Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Application Support, etc ...) and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Anyway I wouldn't have even posted this if you guys would have allowed me to reply to the already existing thread I found through google. Said about 20 or so people had the same problem and no one found the contributor's answer useful, including myself.
Anyway, I use Firefox, because it is one of two (other being internet explorer) that Trend Micro's security package includes protection with. Same with spyware blaster which I also use but Trend Micro is the deal breaker. Also I like Firefox 4 and your ad blocker is better than google chrome's. However if I continue to have problems with clearing my browser history it is back to Opera and Google Chrome for me. IObit Security supports both of them, it also seems to be the best security system I have ever come across, I will just pay for their subscription and stop using Trend Micro.
This is a very big problem I hope it is being addressed. Only addon I have is your ad blocker. Also this is completely on your end, not ours. I am the perfect test, my computer is brand new, and by brand new I mean I just started using it the other day, the same day my firefox browser kept crashing as I attempted to clear my browsing history.
Windows 7, 8GBs RAM, AMD athlon II quad core 2.90 GHz
Can't even clear an hours worth of browsing history without firefox crashing.

• Wh must I frequently clear the last hour of history to get gmail to load

Every time I attempt to load gmail I get the loading indication but nothing happens until I clear the last hour of history.

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
