Why doesn't my disc name appear on desktop of new computer

I just installed 10.9.5 on new computer and transferred data via disc migration.My hard drive name does not appear on desktop why?

What version is it? Office 2004 and prior will not run in Mavericks.
If that is the case you can upgrade to 2011 (or 2008), or use one of the Office alternatives like LibreOffice, OpenOffice, or NeoOffice.
Additionally, you can open and edit Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents in Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. You can export them as Word, Excel, or Powerpoint if you need to. Not everything is converted exactly as seen and Numbers is far less powerful than Excel.

MAIL: Recipient doesn't want his name appearing next to his email address

I use Mail on my MacPro w/ a gmail account. I have a client who doesn't want his name appearing next to his email address when I write to him. I've deleted his address book vcard & turned off the auto address completion in prefs. Still no good.
Any suggestions?

Go to Window -> Previous Recipients in Mail and delete his address there. It will add him to that list again next time you send him a message, so be sure not to include his name at that time.
I wonder what possible reason he could have for that? There's no rational reason I can think of for that. But you've got to do it the way he wants anyway, I suppose.

HT2822 Why doesn't a network list appear anymore yet Apple TV says I'm connected to the internet?

Since updating Apple TV I lost the usual main menu. Now I can't even see Network lists like I did before the update. The main menu show options for Computer Sharing and Settings. Apple informs me that I am connected to the Internet through built in ethernet so why doesn't a network list appear?

Are you actually connected using ethernet, if you are then you won't see a list of networks.
You clearly do have a problem, however before addressing that problem it would help if we could sort out whether you have an ethernet connection or not.

okay, this is actually a common problem. from your main screen select the blackberry key (next to track ball)->options->security->general settings->include address book->no->reset phone->problem should be fixed!

Why doesn't iPhone connect to the internet when plugged into a computer that has ethernet internet connection?

Also, computers don't work that way either to share a connection like that. Just because you plug a device into a computer doesn't mean it can use it's internet connection that way.
Windows Mobile devices have been able to use their host USB cable to connect to the internet, since at least the year 2000. (And vice versa, more recently.)
It was actually a minor surprise at first that Apple didn't support it.

Contact names transfer in sync to new computer but not any other info-why?

New computer-trying to transfer contacts from iPad (and iPhone) to the Outlook on PC....the names carried over in the sync process, but zero numbers, email addresses, etc...help!

Answered my own question - sort of (and after some hours)...
Plenty of other threads refer to the how-to-copy-your-library support pages - in my case, I'd used this to copy an older iPod library to the new laptop and did not copy the iPhone library as well.
Copying the full library off the old library fixes the problem for the iPhone and I'm now rebuilding the music+podcast library to support the iPod.
Summary is that you must copy the library for the iPhone from old to new PCs. If you have another i* device, then you may run into the same issue as me...

Sdw files saved on old computer appear as symbols on new computer

i have some sdw files saved on a cd from my old computer and when i opened one of the files on my new computer the document was all ########## throughout it. how do i get the document back to the way it was so i can read it. i still have my old computer but it hasnt been used in a long time and i really dont want to go back to using it. I get a window that opens and says ASCII filter options at the top of it and i dont know what to have as character set. Western Europe is highlighted but when i clicked OK thats when the document appears and it has ######### throughout it. I have 32 files on the cd and I'm not sure if all of them have ######## throughout them. when i tried opening the document in microsoft office it was blank. there was nothing on the pages and i know there is something there. would like to see the document on my staroffice program. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Well no one responded to my problem and i think i figured out why i couldnt see the documents on the cd rw disc i put them on that disc on an old computer that has windows 98 on it and my new computer has windows 7 on it.

i found another cd with i think the same files on it. its not a cd rw disc. I got my sisters old laptop that has windows 98 on it and i opened one of the files and i could see it so i saved it to a floppy disc as a rich text format file and i opened it on my computer and there it was. i was so happy. But down the road i will eventually try that cd rw on my old computer that has windows 98 on it to see if theres anything in the files saved on that disc. I cant get to that old computer at the moment. I even tried the disc i found with the files on it on my new computer and i couldnt read one of the files it had symbols and y's across the page. Good thing my sister still had her old laptop with windows 98 on it or I would have been screwed to see what was on the cd.

IWeb doesn't show JPEGs and PDFs after move to new computer.

I bought a new Mac mini (running OS X 10.8.2), moved all files from the old one, installed the most recent Domain.sites file from the old computer into the new computer's User/Library/Application Support/iWeb, but now iWeb opens with all embedded .jpg and .pdf files missing and a long list of "missing file" error messages appearing on startup. All of the .html, .png, .gif, .css and .js files appear to be working O.K. Everything in the "Sites" folder is unchanged since iWeb worked perfectly in the old computer. What can I do to fix this?

Version 1.1.2. I didn't realize until you asked and I checked, that iWeb has been discontinued and I must have transferred my version over from my old computer along with all the other applications. I see I can still buy an old CD version of iLife '09 from third-party vendors that includes iWeb '09, which is presumably version 3.0 and upgradable to 3.0.4 -- near as I can tell the last version before the program went out of production. Evidently iWeb 1.1.2 has compatibility issues with OS X Mountain Lion? I don't want to buy iWeb '09 (the other components of iLife '09 are useless, since 2012 versions were shipped with OS X 10.8) unless I can get some assurance it will work with my existing files. I have RapidWeaver 4.4.2 but I don't have time to recreate everything from scratch. It's frustrating that there's evidently no way to export all the work I've put into my iWeb website over the years into a form that can be edited using other web design software. Or is there? I bought RapidWeaver expecting to be able to open and edit my iWeb files. It's all HTML and JavaScript, isn't it? Why aren't all my files interchangeable between web design programs?

Songs purchased under a different user name and transfrered to a new computer.

I have several hundred tunes that were purchsed from itunes under a different user name and password and email. I have transfered those to a newer computer and have the library. When I try to play (some) of them (not all) it says to authorize my current computer but when I do it still does not let me play them. I simply want to select many and download to my iphone from the library. What do I need to do?

You have to use the same old Apple ID and password.
NOTE: All content bought using one Apple ID cannot be merged or transferred to another Apple ID.

HT2729 Why doesn't video or podcasts appear after clicking the video icon on my iPad2?

After clicking on the video icon nothing happens. No video, no start page, no sound. What are the possible causes?

Try quitting the videos app completely and restart the iPad. Then try again.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesn't work, try this.
Swipe to the right from your first home screen to get to the iPad Spotlight search. Type in the name of any of your movies in the field at the top. When the movie appears in the search - tap on it and it should hopefully start to play. Let it play for a minute or so - hit done - go back to videos app and see if all is OK.

Why doesn't the QuickTime icon appear in my system prefs, even though I have just installed it and restarted?

I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and bought QuickTime Pro from the Apple store, but discovered I couldn't register it as the QuickTime icon wasn't appearing in System Prefs for me to click on and enter the registration details.
I've reinstalled QuickTime from my original start-up disk - but still nothing.
QuickTime Player 7 loads okay, and while I can access Registration from the main menu, it doesn't actually let me do that but simply encourages me to buy QuickTime Pro... which I have already purchased.
Well I know it's not expensive but it does seem a bit daft to buy it twice!
Any suggestions, anyone?

There is no QuickTime System Preference pane in Snow Leopard or Lion.
Look under the QuickTime Player 7 menu and click Registration. Use copy/paste to enter the Name and Number fields from the info you got from Apple via email.

Why is os X disc utility appearing at startup

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro and recently (within the last 6 months) upgraded to Mavericks. I was working on a project in After Effects and noticed I couldn't resave my project as a different name. I tried to view my desktop using my hot corners, and that wouldn't work, so I minimized my window. I then noticed that all of my files on my desktop had disappeared except for my hard drive. I tried clicking on my hard drive and it wouldn't not open. I tried opening Finder from my dock and got the pinwheel as a response.
I then attempted to force quit applications and that wouldn't work either, so I decided to do a hard restart by pressing my power button. The machine made a strange sound, then turned off. I turned it back on again only to see a screen that said "OS X Disc Utilities" giving me 4 options: back up from time machine, reinstall OS X, search the web, or disc utilities. When I went to disc utilities my actual hard drive did not show up as an option, only my Recovery HD.
Is there another way to try to recover? I've already tried restarting holding down command+option+P+R which didn't help, as well as a safe boot, but that displayed a circle with a line through it instead of the apple.
Any suggestions or insight would help. Thank you

If your HDD does not appear in Disk Utility then it is dead. Have it replaced.
