Besides the "because you can't play, because it is not tuned correctly" (sorry, bad joke, I know), did you connect it directly to the Mac - e.g. via an "adapter cable"? That probably doesn't work, you need a special guitar audio interface for good sound.

Oh, in terms of creating music, it's actually pretty bad, even for voice.
The built in mic is good for "text only", like chats, dictaphone like usage, quick&dirty recordings... But if you want to record music (not just noise), a decent microphone is the first thing you'll need. You'll also need an audio interface with a XLR input (preferabely with phantom power in case you got a condenser mic).
Recommendations for beginners: Shure SM-57 or -58 (good-for-all dynamic mic, but needs good preamps). Or AKG C1000S as a universal condenser mic.
Now the choice depends on which kind of music you like to record. For acoustic guitar, i said it should be a condenser. It's more crisp and clear as most of the dynamic microphones. I like the AKG C1000S because it is not as small and fragile as many of these intrument mics. You can use it for vocals, change the cardioid characteristics, record ambient sound and speeches, whatever.
The Shure SM-57/58 is the main workhorse in many environments. Whenever there's no better mic, no special mic for this or that, the engineer will look over his shoulder and tell ol' John Doe to "Gimmea57". Or 58 for vocals, because it has an integrated pop filter. You'll see many vocalists using the '58.

System Preferences > Sound > Sound Effects tab > check box for "Play user interface sound effects". Make sure also to choose "Selected sound output device" from the "Play sound effects through..." menu.

Why doesn't my Bose Sound Dock work with my iPod Touch?

I have a Bose Sound Dock, purchased about 2006 or 7. It worked fine with the 5th gen iPod Classic, but will not work with the iPod Touch. Does anyone know why?

Very likely because it does not comunicate with iOS devices. The "dumb" iPods do not use iOS but a very simple OS instead. The first iPod Touch came out in Sept 2007.

Why doesn't outgoing email sound work?

A while back I had this same problem...the outgoing email sound didn't work. So I did this: Applications>Utilities>Audio Midi Setup>Built-in Output>Output> Changed the output to 2ch - 32bit Float (was originally: 2ch-24 bit integer). Then the sound worked fine. Today, once again, the same problem has recurred. Additionally, now when I increase or decrease the sound from the keyboard, there is no "bleeping" sound with each increase or decrease change. There is sound when I watch a video, etc. I went to Audio Midi Setup and tried changing back to 2ch-24 bit integer, but that didn't help. I did try rebooting with 2ch-32 bit Float as well as with 2ch-24bit integer...didn't help. Any suggestions?

You don't give us anything like enough data to go on. What is your operating system? Do you have a functioning iCloud account - i.e. are you signed in in System Preferences>iCloud?
Were you originally a MobileMe subscriber? If so, did you migrate to iCloud?
Was your email still working recently? Do you get any error messages? What happens when you try to use it?
Have you been using an @icloud.com address or an @me.com address?

Random muting of Mac sound. Why doesn't Mac adress this?

I am having a recurring problem with the sound randomly muting. In the System Preferences panel, the volume slider is grayed out and the 'mute' option is checked but also greyed out. This has been happening on and off for a while. Sometimes restarting works but not always. In googling this problem it is obvious that this has been happening to many people since at least 2008. What is going on here and why doesn't Mac fix this problem? It is a huge waste of time when working on a project to have to screw around with this.
Has anyone found a real fix other than just trying to reboot?
I am using a 27" iMac, 2.93 ghz/core i7, Mac OSX 10.7.4.

Why doesn't Quicktime Support MPEG-2 with AC3 sound?

Last summer I bought a Mac Mini so I could use iMovie and iDVD to convert and edit my 20 year old VHS tapes of family events to DVDs. This Christmas I got a Samsung DVD Recorer-VCR unit that easily copies VHS to DVD in MPEG-2 format with AC3 sound.
So, I'm all set to use my Mac Mini and begin my family archives project - or so I thouhgt. I found that Quicktime and iMovie don't read MPEG-2!! Then I was relieved to find that there is a plug-in that works with Quicktime Pro that will read MPEG-2. I spent the $50 to download these 2 programs and sure enough Quikcktime Pro will now read the MPEG-2 files from my Samsung unit. However, there is no sound!!!
Is Apple purposely making it impossible to do what I'm trying to do?

Why would someone create software that reads movie files but doesn'rt read the sound that goes with them?
If I can't hear my little girl sing on these movies, then this whole project is a big waste of time and money!!

FWIW, MPEG is a distribution format, not an editing format. The best way would be to convert VHS to DV, edit it in iMovie and burn THAT to DVDs.
Sure, MPEG is a nice compressed format taking much less space than DV but the compression takes away quality.
IMO the best approach with MPEG source would be to edit (yes, it CAN be edited) it with apps like MPEG Streamclip (very limited editing features) or Capty MPEG Edit EX (more features) and author the edited MPEGs via apps like Toast, DVDSP, Capty MPEG Edit, Sizzle etc. THEN you won't lose any quality (unless some of the GOPs have to be re-encoded, that is).
BTW, unlike QT Player, MPEG Streamclip can play also AC3 or PCM audio in MPEG files.

The Doors doesn't sound good

Some of you might be thinking Doors don't make sound or something like that. The Doors is an old band I listen to. They don't sound as good as the other downloaded music stuff I have like Black Rain. It's sort of hard to hear their voices... The Equalizer Vocal Booster doesn't sound good either. On Pandora Radio it sounds good.
Also is an m4a file a iTunes ONLY file? I do not want my music appearing in WMA. Especially some songs that are kind of childish... Erm.... Yeah...

.m4a files are regular AAC format which is one of the formats you can use to rip your own CD's into iTunes. Any hardware that is compatible with unprotected AAC format can play that time of file. I'm not sure, but I don't think that AAC is compatible with WMP which is what I think you mean. WMA is another type of format that is PC compatible only. If you are talking about store purchases, there are 2 types of files, protected AAC format, .m4p, & purchased AAC format which is also a .m4a file. The purchased AAC is the new DRM free format that is available from EMI records in the store. Hope this helps.

Assuming that you purchased Logic from the Appstore, did you download all the additional content?
Go to the Logic Pro menu and choose "Download Additional Content".... there's loads to download, so it is probably best to do it in batches.

I need some good electric guitar sounds for Garageband

Garageband just comes with a few electric sounds. I need some software that includes a lot of guitar sounds, and I'd like to know if there are any of the Jam Packs that have this. I know I can buy software like Realstrat that will do this, but getting them to interface with Garageband can be tough. Anybody know if a Jam Pack has what I'm looking for?

Have you tried crafting the guitar sounds Garageband?
I ask because I frequently read posts where people are asking where they can find sounds and yet it has been my experience that finding the right loop is simply a beginning point.
Ultimately if you want to enjoy the full capability of Garageband the sounds will have to be customized and shaped to fit what it is you are trying to communicate in a particular music project.
In other words use Garageband to make the sounds do whatever it is you want them too.

Why doesn't snap chat make sound notifications

I have notifications turned on in the settings, sounds and banner. But for whatever the badge shows up but it doesn't make a sound or vibrate.

Snapchat app for iPhone does not appear to have the functionality to use sound or vibrate for notifications, so there is no way to get them. This is an issue/complaint many have against the app. very Unfortunate / annoying, maybe some changes will be made in the next updates.

It takes around 2 weeks to get a replacement, a bit less if it is not personalised. Apparently a lot of the ipods coming out of China have audio/visual problems at the moment. Guess they should work on their quality control process.
