Why doesn't my hp pc recognize my ipod touch 5th gen

Have a new Ipod Touch 5th gen, that is not being recognized by my hp pc...also have downloaded Itunes and Quickstart, but
nothing seems to help...my ipod does seem to charge while being connected there is no indication that it's even connected.
Can this be a windows 7 problem?

lastest version of itunes. That message would come up everytime I was charging said ipod with itunes open. I just updated to iso 8.3
and now I don't get that message anymore when I have itunes open.I tried turning off ipod/computer/restarting, nothing. I tried going
to administrator/services/apple moble device and stop/start service nothing. Device manager shows the drivers are installed.
Any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

So my iPod is on the "connect to itunes" spot. When I plug it in, it says something like "USB device cannot be recognized." help?

Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road.

For that reason, I'm also not interested in adding in headphones or additional devices that have the desired button functions. Going both forward and back would be great but I would be pleased just to have a "sight-free" way to go forward.
I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/

Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
You don't like it.
You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
(They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.)

Why does my Ipod touch 5th gen not sync podcasts with my Windows Itunes? Both are up to date with versions.

I didn't see this asked so sorry if this is a duplicate question.
In Itunes (it is the most recent version for windows available as of 2/12/2014) all my podcasts are showing they have downlaoded to my PC. They don't have the little cloud next to them. I sync my Ipod touch 5th gen. The sync shows everything was synced. I look at the "Whats on this ipod" tab and they are listed. But when I disconnect the ipod via the "eject" icon on the Ipod button in itunes and look at the podcasts they still show as not downloaded (greyed out and if wifi is turned on the little cloud is next to them ).
So whats going on? I had this issue with my ipod touch 4th gen as well and though it was because the podcast app stopped upgrading but the itunes on windwos did. But the syncing of the podcasts are even worse with the 5th gen then they were with the 4th gen.
I typically don't have wifi turned on since I want to sync the ipod via itunes. So I have a central place to keep the old podcasts without having to take space on the ipod itself. I saw some references to the downloading of podacasts are done only via wifi, but that just didn't make sense. Why be able to sync Itunes if they are just going to turn around and make you do the same on the device?
Any ideas? Suggestions?

Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see:

The computer does recognize the ipod and names it correctly in My Computer. Any suggestions to wake up itunes and discover the ipod?

If it's any consolation i've just had a similar thing happen. Went to add a playlist and it wiped 35 gig of music off my iPod touch 64g in a nanosecond. I've got the latest iTunes and osx but do not back up because i keep different styles of music (and loads of it) in separate libraries and devices which i don't want mixed together. All my stuff is burned from cd so it's not lost for good and i've got a hard drive with the "lost" mp3 music on it but even so it will take literally weeks to prune the tracks for my iPod to be the same again. Why do they make it so difficult to manage your music on these things. I have massive amounts of music on my computer so autofill is a disastrous unusable gimmick to me. The whole thing seems to be aimed at 9 year old kids with about 6 mp3's on their phone rather than serious music lovers (for example accessing EQ is a joke let alone the lack of a manual option). I'm a dj and use apple for that reason but to be honest i'm beginning to wonder why. I'm absolutely livid. The weird thing is that my mac still shows the titles of the missing tunes in the 'on my device' window but as my macbook storage display shows no increase i'm pretty sure it's all gone. Nightmare. I have no confidence in this device anymore and could barely use the previous osx 8.2 anyway. Why they have to change it every ten minutes is beyond me. As the old saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but this format just gets more broken every time they update. An absolute disgrace. Why not just drag and drop or delete. No wonder the iPod is said to be a dying device, it's for music, it is not a phone. Not fit for purpose anymore. I can't be bothered to read a massive 'how to use' article every update. Good technology should be easier and more intuitive with each new version. I suppose i'll have to phone apple at my expense to find out what's going on, or maybe that's the whole idea. Hey Ed, Try trouble shooting 101. Do you have a different cable and/or charging device? If so, try the different cable first, then a different charging device. If the problem goes away, I'd say it's the cable, replace it. If with in 1 from date of purchase, Apple will replace for free if the cable is found to be defective. If the problem continues with a different cable or a different charging device, then the problem is with your iPod. With a strong light and a magnifying glass look in the iPod's charging port. Your looking for damage in and around the port. Is the port lose? (shouldn't be). Are pieces missing or damaged? Bent or damaged contact pins can do what you describe. Foreign debris, namely pocket lint or corrosion can also cause charging issues. If you see something like lint, try to blow it out, or if you must use a non-conductive probe, I find a round wooden toothpick works well to carefully remove the lint from the bottom of the port. Just be careful to not touch, bend or damage the gold contact pins on the long side of the port. Also make sure the locking pins on the short ends (looks like two silver bumps, one on each end) of the port are free to move. If you find corrosion, try plugging / unplugging about 12 times to clean the contacts off. If you must use a cotton swab cut to fit, with a drop of 91% isopropyl alcohol on it, you want it damp, not wet, then plug it in and out until the swab comes out clean. You will most likely need several swabs. If you find nothing physically wrong, then try resetting your iPod. If that does not work, restore from backup, last resort, make a backup then restore to new, a full factory restore. If issue continues see your Apple store and have it evaluated for a possible hardware issue. But start with a different or new cable. Good luck, Cheers.
