Why doesn't my iCloud e-mail account remember my password

Since upgrading to Mavericks two days ago, each time I open mail the first thing that appears is a box for me to put in my i-cloud password.
I do this and then go to peferences/accounts and put the password in the appropriate box and save the preferences.
This is all to no avail as the next time I open the program, the same thing happens again
Any clues?
Thanks

It's ok - i figured that you need to delete the account and then re sign in.

  • How to change "Full Name" in iCloud IMAP mail account information

Brand new to this forum so please excuse any newbieisms. I am running OS X 10.7.5 I created an iCloud IMAP mail account so that I can sync with my iPhone.
Windows Live is my original mail account. All is good except the "Full Name" in "Accounts" preferernces is somehow incorrect. When I send mail frm my Mac, this incorrect name shows in the "From" field. Mail sent from my iPhone shows my correct name as it appears in my phone cloud settings. The name doesn't sync in iCloud. All other syncing is good. When I try to change it manually in my Mac mail preferences, I get the message "the"Incoming Mail Server" field can not be empty" when I try to save the changes. The aforementioned field is not empty and is in fact greyed out as this was self populated upon creation of the account. I can't even change the case sensitivity of the name or I get the message. As a stop gap I have created an alias to send mail with, but would like a proper fix. Any ideas?

If you created a new iCloud account it would have a new associated iCloud email account.  You wouldn't be able to move your current @icloud.com address to the new account.
Just to double-check, after quitting (Command-Q) and re-opening Mail, did you start an new message and click the down-arrow next to From to see if the new sender name was available from the drop-down list (see image below)?  If so, you might try signing out of iCloud entirely.  To do this, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac, then sign back in and test Mail again.  (This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  Your iCloud data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in.)

  • System preference freezes when i select icloud or mail accounts.

i migrated from mobile me to icloud and now the system preference freezes when i select icloud or mail accounts. The resources are 100% utilized. I also updated the software. Am using Lion OS X
Any Help , i need to get out of this.

No guarantees, what you might like to try the following:
    1. Sign out of your account
(If you are unable to do this because System Preferences has frozen, Force Quit System Preferences and try again)
    2. When prompted, opt to delete, contacts, calendars etc from your Mac.
(You are only deleting this data from your Mac, not from iCloud, the data will be reinstated when you log back in. If you need to check that the data is in iCloud before deleting it go to iCloud.com and check each section for data)
    3. Having logged out, check that the iCloud accounts along with their data have disappeared from the Mail, Address Book and iCal Applications.
(If necessary, delete the iCloud accounts from each of these application separately from each Applications Preferences)
    4. At this point it may be worth trying to log into iCloud from the System Preferences iCloud settings again, if this works, all well and good, if it doesn't continue to step 5.
    5. Open your User Library folder in the Finder. (When in the Finder, go to the Go menu, hold down the option key (alt) and choose Library when it appears in the Go menu)
    6. Navigate to Library > Application Support > iCloud and drag the iCloud folder to your desktop. (This action only copies the folder and will provide you with a back up)
    7. Select the iCloud folder again in Library > Application Support and drag it to the trash, enter your administrators password when prompted.
    8. Restart your computer.
    9. You should now be able to enter your ID and Password in system Preferences > iCloud and log into your account. Check the services you wish to use and once you are satisfied it's working as it should, trashh the iCloud folder you copied to your desktop earlier.

If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • HT201342 Deleting an @iCloud e-mail account

How do I delete an @iCloud e-mail account from my iCloud account.  My son (7) created an iCloud account and it has become the master e-mail for all of our iCloud linked devices.

You can create an alias email address, which is not a separate account but will receive email in your current iCloud inbox (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a490a), but as you may have read, you cannot change the master email address short of creating a new iCloud account.

  • Can I have more then one icloud E-Mail Account?

Can I have more then one icloud E-Mail Account?

    Hi Pathfinder93950,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You can only have one iCloud account per Apple ID.  However, you can have up to 3 aliases that point to that iCloud account.  Here is some additional information:
iCloud: Set up an @icloud.com email address
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2620
After you set up your @icloud.com email address, you can use it to sign in to iCloud. You can also sign in using the Apple ID you used to create your iCloud account.
    iCloud: About email aliases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4897
iCloud: Create or change email aliases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2622
You can have up to three active email aliases, and you can delete or deactivate (turn off) an email alias at any time. You might want to deactivate an alias if, for example, you use an alias to make a purchase. After you receive the item, you can turn off the alias to avoid follow-up advertisements, then turn it on again when you make another purchase.
Deleting an alias is permanent, so if you think you might want to use the alias again, you should simply turn it off. When an alias is turned off, all email sent to that alias is returned to the sender.

    Please help
I no longer have the email address associated with my iCloud and do not remember my password. I created a new Apple ID but it does not match my iCloud. How do I fix this?

If you can't remember your password then see if you can get it reset via http://iforgot.apple.com
If you can't get it reset via that page then try contacting Support in your country and see if they can reset it for you : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699

  • HT201342 This site doesn't seem to answer a basic question of "why should I open this new iCloud e-mail account?" What do I do with it?

Why should I open this new e-mail account?  What does it do or me? Under what circumstance would I use this new identity?

There's no reason to if you don't want to use it.  Apple is no longer issuing @me email addresses, and has moved to @icloud adresses.  They are just adding the @icloud address to your existing iCloud account so you'll have one in case you want to use it.  Email sent to either your @me or @icloud email address is routed to the same iCloud mail inbox.

  • Icon for i cloud suddenly disappeared from mail ?  Not a problem but just concerned that the icon should disappear from the listing for the iCloud e mail account

I had previosly set up a number of IMAP e mail account in addiiton under my .mac and .me account which is my personal account.
On the mail home page it had the inbox listing thee accounts and further down the page its used to list the on line accounts set up under I cloud using the same name as the .mac or .me accounts, but also included the i cloud icon as does my ipad.  Logged onto day and the i cloud icon had dissappeared?  not sure why it is still functioning and I still have all my icloud accounts set up but the icon is no longer present.
Maybe just a bit anal but it bugs me to know why this icon has suddenly dissappeared?

    Hello,
Do you use these settings in Mail for your Gmail account (especially for the SMTP) ?
If you use IMAP and all your emails are still stored on the server you can delete your account in Mail and recreate it with the settings mentionned above.
    Hope this will help.

  • HT201342 How can I change the USER of my i-cloud address? My 12 year old set up the e-mail account and used a silly user name (like: turtle!!). I would like to have an icloud e-mail account but under my own user name. The other /old name can be deleted?

How can I change the USER name of my i-cloud e-mail account? It was set up by my son and he used a silly / embarrassing user name. I would like to change this name OR set up another i-cloud e-mail account under my own name / reference. Help?

iCloud email addresses can't be changed or deleted, but you can set up an alias namethat he can use which will be linked to his current iCloud account and will receive email in the existing iCould inbox.  This guide explains how: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • All of my iCloud Alias mail accounts have been hacked

I am very concerned that all of my alias iCloud mail accounts are receiving Spam mails. My main email is ok, so far. The only time my computer has been out of my control is when it went in for repair to an Apple Store/Workshop.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Poet.

This is a little too wide spread for an address book problem. I also have recieved SPAM to email aliases not in existance except at Apple, not in any address book, never been used to register, send email or anything. They were merely placeholders.
PS Roger, its easy to find the email address you use actively since it gets scattered hither and yon, that's not the issue here.

  • Why cant i set up a mail account?

I have a yahoo account but i keep getting this message when i try and set it up
Cannot get mail - The username or password for "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com" is incorrect
I know the username and password is fine.
    What can it be??

    i just figured it out
you need to go to mail options in yahoo
http://help.yahoo.com/tutorials/cg/mail/cg_access4.htmlthe go back to iPhone settings
    outgoing (SMTP) mail server.
Here are the basic server settings for Yahoo! Mail:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 995)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., [email protected])
    Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password
If you can't add new POP or SMTP servers, you'll need to change your current server settings to access your Yahoo! Mail Plus account. Write down your current settings first—you might need to revert to them later if you decide to send and receive messages from your other email addresses.
Your other email program will give you the option of either deleting your Yahoo! messages from the Yahoo! server after downloading them, or leaving them on the Yahoo! server so you can see them online in your Yahoo! account, too.
add acount: other enter all new outgoing and incoming settings
    then you good to go
