Why doesn't my MacBook Pro doesn't recognize my cameras or iPhone when I plug those in at a USB-port?
Even installing the Nikonsoftware of my camera didn't work. I've no problem connecting those equipments to my netbook with windows, but my Mac doesn't recognize either of them.
Check to see if the Mac sees them at all by opening the utility "/Applications/Utilities/System Information"
Then select "Hardware > USB" (on the left). You can refresh the view by selecting the menu item "File > Refresh Information" or typing <CMD>+R.
Your should be able to see the devices in this list which will confirm hardware works-- USB ports are good, cables etc. If you have installed the software try restarting. Also try OTHER usb ports on the notebook.
After that try re-installing the drivers AFTER you make certain they are released for your version of the OS.

First thing that would come to mind to resolve the issue would be SMC and PRAM resets. I've linked Knowledge Base articles below:

when i plug my phone into the usb port with the apple charger that came with my phone i get an error msg say charging not supported by this device. But when i use a gigaware (radioshack brand) usb charger, no error msg. Why?
- Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
- Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
- Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button? -
I have about 1/2 of the app store icons loading when accessing the store. The issue just started a few days ago. I have this issue on my MacBook pro and my iPad using the same router. Router checks out and I do have access to the Internet. Any ideas?
Open the Mac App Store on your MacBook Pro
Hold the Option key and click on “Purchases”
Hold the Option key and click on “OS X Lion” from the purchased app list
“Installed’ should now say “Install” which allows you to download OS X Lion.
This assumes you are using the same Apple ID on both computers.
Lion does not get installed on an iPad. It runs iOS. -
This is really a problem since i need to save stuff for school work and i can't currently do that.
It happens anytime I log in, try to save something, or open a new application that may require me to save something. Any advice would be helpful

it's also likely that you used two different apple IDs to purchase apps. if that's the case then you simply have to log out of your app store, and log into the other account to update the apps.
from experience it's not possible to syncronise purchased content from two different accounts. but you can always give Apple a call. -
My MacBook Pro doesn't start; in safe mode <shift CMD V> the message "disk0s2: media is not present" is written on the screen repeatedly but the MacBook doesn't start. Do you have any ideas of why this should be or what I should do to resolve this? Thanks Eamonn
Thanks for these suggestions: I have tried safe mode re-starts (both "verbose" and simple "shift" + power) to no avail. I get the error message "disk0s2: media is not present". Following this I inserted the installation disc and from there ran disc utility. The "Verify Disk" indicated an error " invalid sibling link" which it could not repair.
I also tried to completely re-format/erase the disk, but again got an error message "disk object invalid or unable to serialize".
Any ideas of what could be causing this or the best solution? I fear I am fast running out of options. -

Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X
If your computer came with OS X Lion or later and you erase your hard disk and install OS X, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
After installation, start (up) from OS X.

Enter your Apple ID and password when prompted.

Why doesn't the Macbook Pro's battery life last anywhere near 5 hours, as advertised? This is my second one and it lasts 2. It's false advertising, and Apple doesn't seem to making a big deal or know anything about it, which i'm sure they do. Since their general practice is to deny problems exist in all their products, i'm here to make it known that the most recent Macbook Pro has a severe battery issue and it needs to be addressed.
I'm running OS X 10.8.3, Bluetooth is off, and haven't installed any third party software.My MacBook Pro is over a year old and still gets 2.5 to 5 hours, depending on how intensively my application activity is hitting the CPU and disk. Remember that battery life depends on usage and component loads. You could get 1 hour editing HD video since it would hit all cores and slam the disk constantly, or 8 hours in a cabin in the woods with wifi and Bluetooth turned off, only writing text files, and with the backlight turned down and no disc in the drive. You should check Activity Monitor to make sure you don't have some processes using unusually high amounts of CPU for long periods of time (like browser tabs running Flash ads in the background, chewing up CPU and battery power without even being seen).
Like mende1 says, there are not huge numbers of Mac users getting only 2 hours, or the world would have heard about it by now and MacBook sales would be down. If you are only getting 2 hours there is something going on local to your machine or usage habits.

That's not strictly true. Apple has often announced updates or repair/exchange programs to address various problems that had come up over time. Maybe not always, but it does happen. They also have often helped me and my friends when we brought in Macs that were out of warranty and had problems. They had no legal obligation to work on our Macs for free, but they did anyway. -

My MacBook Pro doesn't recognize the built-in camera for a lot of my applications, including Image Capture. It doesn't show up anywhere in my system preferences. Any idea why this is so?
(1) Mac's built-in camera does not work with Image Capture.

My MacBook Pro doesn't accept CDs or DVDs anymore, but it did when I bought it 2 years ago. How can I get it to read disks again?
My quess is that the new software just doesn't allow the disk drive to work. I would love an explanation why this doesn't work and some help getting it to work. It's really frustrating because I get a bunch of CDs from work and never get to listen to them on my MacBook.Make sure the discs are free of finger prints. The optical drive cannot read a disc with smudges and dust.

MacBook Pro doesn't want to start up anymore.
My MacBook Pro doesn't want to start up anymore.
When I turn it on, it turns on, followed by a white/light grey screen with apple logo. After a while a loading wheel appears beneath the logo and a loading bar beneath it. The loading bar loads to about 1/5 and then disappears, leaving the computer stuck on the the white screen with the apple logo and the loading wheel.
I tried to reset the PRAM, but it didn't help, it only got the startup sound to play when I turn the MacBook on.
What can I do about this? Hopefully I don't need to lose my files.

OS X can be reinstalled all by itself leaving the programs and files alone, provided the drive is working correctly.
I'm not quite sure how to recover the files from Macintosh HD that I don't want to be deleted during this process.
The TM drive is almost useless because you can't boot from it to recover your latest files with.
That's why I gave the link for the undelete boot drive, you create and boot from that, access your internal drive and grab files, then you can restore from TM or other things, like the repair list of fixes I gave you.

The problem is your machine isn't booting to grab the files.
So you need to create a external boot drive, then you can access the internal boot drive directly and grab files out of your Music, Pictures, Movies, Documents folders (etc) to the external boot drive.

Or is there a way to do this without deleting all of the files in my user folders on Macintosh HD?
Yes, you can choose to create a
Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
and recover your filesnow , or you can chose to try fixing the machine without recovering your files, but your taking your chances as we don't know how seriously wrong it is yet.
If your willing to take a risk then proceed through this list, Step 1 - 8 etc., until the machine boots up.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
If the machine doesn't boot up then you need to create the external boot drive to get the files before proceeding with further steps.
If this is too much for you, then call a local PC/Mac data recovery/repair service and they will handle it for a large fee.
