Why doesn't my serial ata dvd burner stay engaged?

I recently installed an internal dvd and it will not stay engaged.
Eventually as I am working in something unrelated to the dvd, the burner will put up a message telling me that I inserted a dvd and what speed i would like to burn at even though I didn't insert any dvd. this is followed by disengagement of the driver or a message code say the it is unsupported.
When I access my profile it shows only the super drive but not the newly installed dvd burner in the disk burning category however the new burner is listed in the seril-ata category.
when I restart it will  reinstate the burner and i go through the same ordeal again.
Thank you for any advice.

Apart from the Energy Saver setting, the drive should work with OSX except for playing Blu-ray movies.
You can play Blu-ray movies with Mac Blu-ray Player

If you don't want to buy that, you can use MakeMKV

to copy the movie to the hard drive, then play it with VLC

  • Serial-ATA DVD Burners

Does any body know if there are any serial-ata DVD burners for Mac?

    They do make them:
    http://www.hardwarecentral.com/hardwarecentral/news/article.php/3648236
but I'm just not sure how well they'd work on a mac. Not an approach I'd use myself. I prefer using the internal ATA bus for a pioneer S-Drive like the 103 thru 111 which are very compatible with most macs. I'd even recommend using an ext. FireWire S-Drive over the approach you may be considering.
Here's the one I made myself from a pioneer 110 and an an ADS Pyro FW enclosure. Works Great!
    Very easy to install:
Hope this helps. If so, then please take the time to mark your question as "Answered." Good luck.

  • Why does Encore not recognize my DVD burner?

I recently purchased Encore to complete a video editing project I've been working on, and for some reason the software will not recognize the external DVD burner I have connected to my computer. The burner is not that old, so I don't see why Encore would show that no device was attached, especially when the computer itself recognizes the external drive. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have any solutions? Few things are as frustrating as having software/hardware issues for no apparent reason. Thanks!

  • Why doesn't my serial number work?

I have Photoshop Elements 7. My old computer died and my new computer doesn't have a CD drive, so I transferred and installed Photoshop Elements 7 from a flash. It let me use the program (perfectly) on a trial basis for 30 days since I couldn't find the serial number. I found my serial number, plugged it in and it was rejected (serially rejected, actually). So I logged into my adobe account, downloaded Photoshop Elements 7 again in hopes that it would magically recognise the serial number, figuring that somehow my original install had been corrupted somehow. Serial number was rejected again. Any (serious) ideas?

  • Why doesn't my Superdrive mount DVDs?

My late 2009 iMac's internal DVD started to ignore DVD's with content a few months ago. Insert a DVD and it sounds like it is trying to read it but then ejects it with no message. It still mounts CDs and blank DVDs but not DVDs with content. I can burn DVDs using Toast. I have a second external USB DVD recorder that reads the DVDs fine so it is probably not a system OS issue. Anyone have a clue?

  • Why doesn't slideshow play w/ ken burns effect?

I love the way my slideshows play in iphoto - but when I move them to idvd, I lose the motion/effect. I know there's a way to overcome this, as I've done it a few times...but I do them so infrequently, that I can never remember...anyone - please?!
    laureen

Try Share/Exporting it from iPhoto to Quicktime (full quality). You can double-click this file and make sure it works correctly. If so, drag it into the menu area (not a drop zone) in iDVD, and you're on your way!

  • Why doesn't my slideshow burned to disc not play on my dvd player or game devices?

Why doesn't my slideshow burned to disc not play on my dvd player or game devices?  I've created the slideshow using my Mac on OS X 10.6.8 & burned to both a CD-R & DVD disc.  The disc does work on my computer; however will not play on my dvd player, projectors or gaming devices.

Did you use iDVD to create a video DVD or did you burn a Quicktime file version of your slideshow to a DVD disk via the Finder thus creating just a data disk?
If you didn't use iDVD then that's the reason the disk won't play on those other devices.

  • Adobe Premiere 13 doesn't recognize my DVD burner

I am running Premiere 13 and am trying to burn a DVD.  I can burn the project to a folder, but cannot burn directly to a DVD.  The program doesn't recognize my DVD burner.  When I use Windows Explorer to copy the files to a DVD, the DVD will not play in my DVD/Blue Ray player.  The player recognizes the DVD -R format, but shows a blank screen, even though I have created the project with menus.  Any pointers would be appreciated.  I am running Windows 7.

  • Why doesn't Disk Utility allow me to select an image or movie to burn?

Why doesn't Disk Utility allow me to select an image or movie to burn?  Everything is greyed out, even files.

You cannot burn a movie with Disk utility - you need a burn application which will encode, author, and render the files so you will be able to watch the movie in any DVD player. There is iDVD (still available within the retail iLife 09 or 11 disks available at online resellers or ebay, amazon, etc), or Roxio Toast or Burn (free, but very basic), or google for others.

  • DVD Burner doesn't show up in DVD SP -

In the Build & Format dialog box, there is a drop down menu to choose your destination. Only my hard drive is available. Shouldn't my SuperDrive appear there, also?
I'm having trouble burning a simple DVD - hitting the BURN button results in the response Formatting Succesful - Formatting Finished. The encoded files have been created, I see, but it won't burn a disk. Yes, the DVD media is blank.
I was able to burn recently using the same machine and software. I'm running DVD SP 4.03. on Mac OS X 10.4.3.
Why doesn't DVD SP recognize my DVD burner?
    Thanks.

Sorry, Tom, I disagree. Perhaps you are used to a different OS, but I don't normally think to restart my Mac when I have a problem, nor does any other Mac user I know.
I am having the same issue. I purchased a new MacPro a couple of weeks ago, installed Final Cut Studio, and did a software update. When I run DVD Studio Pro, it does not show my DVD burner as an output device. A restart did not help. Also, if a restart is required, either the installation or the software update should say so. Neither did.

  • Why doesn't IMac repeatedly burn a cd until it's filled?

5-6 years ago, I had a Performa and I bought a LaCie external cd burner with Lite Toast. Using that, I could repeatedly burn to a disc until it was full. Last year I got an IMac G5, and I go to burn a cd a second time and it won't do it and I'm told that the cd and dvd will only burn once. 5 years of technology and we go back in time rather than making giant strides.??? Why doesn't IMac have the ability to repeat burning? I attempted this answer sometime ago and was told about Burn it Again Sam, and I bought it, but it didn't work right off and I haven't had time to pursue it. I just bought Roxio Titanium Toast 7, and it won't burn again either on the IMac.....that I know of; I just tried it once. It seems like Apple should fix this or offer a solution. When you buy something new 5 years later (IMac) then you should be able to do better things than you could do with an external burner 5 years before.

You must use the 'write session' option to leave a CD "open" for more burns later. If the first burn closes the disk (with a 'write disk' option), you will not be able to add data later, regardless of the burning software you use.
Since you have Toast 7, I suggest you review its manual or help topics for more information on what CD formats support session writing & using its preferences to change recorder settings from disk to session for them.

  • Second dvd shows in profile under serial-ata, second dvd shows in profile under serial-ata, second dvd shows in profile under serial-ata

But, in the profile under disk burning indicates no second cd/dvd/bluray installed in the secondary bay...restored by restarting... at times I will be instructed to shut down and re-start. The driver will eventually disengage and the profile indicates the hardware only in the serial-ata but, not in the disk burning.
