  • Why Doesn't Premiere Elements 12 Recognize My Sony AVCHD Camera?

This is my first attempt at using Premiere Elements 12.  Unfortunately, it is not recognizing my Sony HDR AVCHD format camera.  It uses a san disk.  I get a message "No supported devices detected".  It does find the jpg photos, though.
So I directly loaded the MTS files onto my iMac and created a DVD.  It looked pretty good, but not as good as playing the camera directly on a TV.  I found something on another Adobe site that indicated if there were problems with Premiere reading from the card that the files could be loaded to the hard drive.  It said "Be sure to copy the entire file structure of the card instead if just the clips".  I'm not sure what that means.  All I did was download the MTS files.
So I really have 2 questions here -
1 - why doesn't Premiere recognize my camera
2- Is there something on the san card I missed downloading that could improve the quality of the DVD being created?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply and your additional comments and results.
I think that we need to make distinctions between Quality (how good or bad the results looks or sounds to you) and Resolution (Frame Size, Display Size). Often the two can go side by side.
What you are seeing at the camera level is 1080i which is interlaced video at 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second. What you are seeing when you play back your finished DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc is based on 720 x 480 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second (if standard 4:3) and 720 x 480 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second accompanied by a 16:9 flag to stretch the 720 x 480 to 856 x 480 for display after encoding. Another factor is what the TV or computer player is doing to your interlaced video for viewing purposes - deinterlacing or not and with what method. Some TV's come with technology to enhance the DVD-VIDEO display. Most TVs larger than 32 to 42 in tend to show the differences between higher and lower resolution more readily.
Since you have interlaced video source, each frame has two fields, with either Upper or Lower Field First. Your source probably is interlaced video with Upper Field First. Consequently, in the project, you may have to adjust that to Lower Field First if your destination is DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc which is characterized by Field Order Lower Field First. Something to look into for the "better" aspects considerations.
Now if you decide to take your Timeline content to AVCHD format on DVD disc, note that the format of AVCHD format on DVD disc is different from that of the DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc (Instead of OpenDVD and VIDEO_TS Folder, you have the BDMV Folder). Your AVCHD on DVD disc will have resolution (Frame Size, Display Size) of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Under these circumstances, the capacity of the DVD disc can become a problem with larger projects. When you burn your Timeline content to AVCHD format on DVD disc, what is on the disc will be an 29.97 interlaced frames per second characterized by Upper Field First. So, if your interlaced source and the destination product both use Field Order Upper Field First, then no need for Field Options adjusts. However you do have one opportunity for a progressive frame rate for the AVCHD on DVD. It is not 29.97, rather 24. See Presets = H.264 1920 x 1080p NTSC Dolby in the AVCHD on DVD set up in Publish+Share/Disc AVCHD disc.
I have generated some very great looking DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc (standard and widescreen) and have been very pleased with the results and how my viewers received them. The thought is getting the best possible DVD-VIDEO on DVD and enjoying it without laboring on how it might have looked as Blu-ray or AVCHD if you do not have Blu-ray and do not have a player for AVCHD on DVD disc.
If you need clarification on any of the above, please let me know.
    Thanks.

"On a side note, however, I'm not sure I agree with the statement that going to standard def would lose a lot of video quality"

  • Why doesn't Premiere support FLAC audio files?

.flac is an extension that is very useful to the majority of my coworkers as well as myself.  It's quite a disappointment to see that Premiere Pro, even to this date, doesn't support the .flac extension.  Does anybody know why this is or if support will be added soon?

adobe doesn't announce new features, so its anyone's guess if/when flac will be added. it is supported in audition, so if you plan on finishing in audition you can try to wait to add those flac files until then.

  • Why doesn't Premiere handle variable frame rate video?

Variable frame rate video comes from many places these days: phones, live streamed video recordings.
Adobe Premiere is a supposedly production level piece of software that cost a good chunk of change.
How is it 2012 and Adobe does not still have an answer to this problem?  After trying to editing/convert/mux/edit variable frame rate videos for the past 5 hours I am just exhausted.  No amount of conversion apps, etc have saved us and THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TOO.
We have spent thousands on Adobe software packages over the last decade, probably 10s of thousands, and the only answer I find consistently is to switch to Vegas.
Surely, SURELY someone at Adobe with real insight into the issue can help answer the question of whether users moving into different medium should find a place elsewhere in the software ecosystem...

The file I am trying to edit was recorded in a streaming application called XSplit, very popular in the game / live streaming community.
The frame rate is variable, slightly I am guessing, because the real time nature of the recording/stream.  The issue is that while WMP and VLC play the file back 100% correctly, when played back inside Premiere CS6 the file drifts out of sync so at the end of a 2 hour clip, we are talking more than a full second or so.
According to MediaInfo, here is the file detail:

  • Why doesn't my audio input work?

I have a Macbook with OS X and have never been able to get an external microphone to produce sound on the computer. I was using an old pair of headphones but the brand new pair I bought also do not produce any sound. They are the basic headphones with a mic attached and plug into the Macbook using two mini-plugs in the two audio ports (one for input, one for output). I can hear sounds in the headphones just fine. But I'm only able to talk if I use the internal microphone on the Macbook, which is inconvenient as it picks up too much background noise. I'd rather use the external mic.
When I got into my preferences > sound > input, there are two choices there:
    Internal microphone -- type: Built-In
Line In -- type: Audio Line-in Port
I select the second option and nothing works. Am I missing something here?

Well, FWIW, I did a lot of searching on here and it seems that this type of basic, unpowered mic will not work with my Macbook Pro (OS 10.7.5) and that any audio input has to be powered in some way -- a cd player for example that provides a powered signal into a pair of headphones or into the computer. I bought one of those very basic $15 headsets with microphone from Wal-Mart. Two different brands failed to produce any sound. (though the sound OUTPUT to the headphones works just fine)
Oddly enough, I did call Apple Tech Support and they were confused and unaware of why the headset' mic shouldn't work just fine. So apparently, this is not a "known" issue. So I'm just going to pay a little more and go buy a Bluetooth or USB headset.

  • Premiere Pro CC not sending Audio files to edit on Audition CC

Hey guys so i just Upgraded from CS6 to CC. Before i did PremiereCS6 was sending audio files to AuditionCS6 with no problems. Since yesterday that i upgraded the option is greyed out and i cant do it. Not sure if this is something happening to a lot of people or just me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well if anyone stumbles here for the same reasons i posted i finally found a fix that doesnt involve re-install from another thread. here is the answer it works like a charm.
I had this problem and fixed it pretty quick without the need to uninstall and reinstall.
Look for the default .sesx files in your Document/Adobe/Audition/6.0/Session Templates folder (on Windows 7)
There should be a list of preset .sesx files. Right-click one and set its default application as Adobe Audition by using the "open with" option.
Once I did this I double-clicked to open the .sesx files with Audition, closed it, opened Premiere Pro CC and VUAAA-LAAA the button is available and fully functional.
    Hope this helps someone!

  • Why doesn't Premiere Pro use my GPU when rendering?

    Hello all,
I bought two GTX 770s for the purpose of rendering super fast with premiere's wonderful Mecrury Playback Engine. The issue I'm having is, I'm rendering a project right now, but it's not making any use of my GPUs whatsoever. My CPU is hovering at 55-80% usage, so I was just wondering what was going on.
Just kind of upsetting that my investment has gone to waste. Thanks!

    Tweakers Page - Exporting Style
    From that article:
The video card and hardware MPE is not the holy grail. It helps in some circumstances to improve performance and rather significantly, but in other instances it does not help at all, as is indicated in the link above. People often think that installing a super fast video card will reduce export times by a significant amount of time. That is not true. It only helps in a limited number of situations.

  • Why doesn't Premiere Pro CC recognize my NVIDIA Quadro 4000?

Premiere Pro CC does not recognize my NVIDIA Quadro 4000.  The previous version of Premiere did.  Does anyone know why?  I updated the driver for the Quadro 4000 with no change.

  • Why doesn't my audio output work?

Hi everyone - my macbook pro speakers don't work.  I've looked at other posts and tried plugging the headphones in and out.  When I play with them a few times, the sound comes back for a split second and then goes away.  Any advice for fixing? Thanks.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
I know you have tried this.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    5. Reinstall OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, if it is your current OS X.
    Best.

  • Recording Audio from additional sources:  Why doesn't the "Audio File" show

Hi, when recording audio from another source and saving: where does logic store the file? Shouldn't it be in the "audio' folder or the set path you set it to>?
For some reason after we record the "Audio File" we recorded is not to be found in the "Audio" folder we created within our project?
    clues?

Can you define "from another source". I'll assume for now, you mean, from an external live source, like a vocal, or guitar.
Yes, if you had saved the song using the "Save As Project" command, the audio path to that songs audio folder should have been set. and all audio files recorded into that song would reside in that location.
The only thing that you might want to check, is hit "A" with the song open, and make sure "choose path" is set to "Song Recording Path" and not "Global Recording Path".
