Why doesn't PS CS6 accept color settings profile?

I've seen this question asked here and elsewhere, but without any resolution, and can't find any mention in the documentation.....
I customized Illustrator's color settings thusly:
But when I save the profile and try to load it in Photoshop, it throws this error:
"The color settings file contains settings that are not supported by this version of Photoshop running on this system. These unsupported settings will be reset to their default values."
Then if I close the dialog box, re-open it, and manually choose the same settings, it seems to accept it. Here is what Photoshop currently shows:
Anyone know what's going on? I'm running the CS6 Master Collection on an Intel quad core with 8 gb RAM and an nVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti (2 gb PCIE 2). OS is Win 7 x64.

Sounds like Illustrator is saving some color settings data that Photoshop can't read. (normally it's the other way: Photoshop saves lots of settings that other apps don't use)
We'll have to do some testing to figure out what that is and why it's triggering the warning (not an error).

  • Help with Color Settings/Profiles...White's look 'yellow' when exported to PowerPoint as a .png

I am running into this odd occurence and can't seem to figure it out.
First - I am not an expert in the Color settings/Profiles topic but I am thinking there is an issue here.
When I look at this image "McCroreyDigitalLogo.png" in Photoshop the 'whites' appear right.
Then when I import it into ms PowerPoint, the whites look yellowish.
I have done a series of 'tests' and it seems to be that the color profile out of photoshop and the one in PowerPoint are not compatible.
I have reset my Photoshop preferences with no luck/change to the results.
Finally, I did a screen shot out of photoshop and pasted that into Power point.  The white appeared correct.
Could use some guidance on how to fix this one. Basically any files I run through PS, when they are imported into PowerPoint, the whites turn yellow.
    Thanks in advance

PowerPoint is not a color managed program and can display the color values only in the color space of your monitor without any correction.
Color managed programs like Photoshop correct the color values when displaying them in order to simulate within the color space of your monitor other color spaces, for example sRGB, AdobeRGB, the color spaces of various printers, and etc. For this reason you can not match the color in non-color managed programs to the color of color managed programs but you can do the opposite match the color in Photoshop to PowerPoint.
There is two ways to do this:
One way is if you want the color values in Photoshop to remain the same but be displayed in the color space of your monitor which PowerPoint is using, you can either color proof with or assign your monitor profile to the document.
To color proof choose View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB.
To assign, choose Edit > Assign Profile, select Profile and from the menu choose the color profile of your monitor. If you are not sure what's the name of the color profile of your monitor, go to the Color Settings, in the Working Spaces section use the RGB menu, scroll up and check what it says after Monitor RGB-
Both proof and assign will give the same result on your monitor but the difference is - the proof is temporary and will last only for the session and the profile, if embedded when saving the file, will stay and when open in other color managed programs including those on other users' computers the color space of your monitor will be simulated and for those users who don't use color managed programs the colors could be way off than if saved with a profile of a more common color space like sRGB.
The other way is If you want the appearance in Photoshop to remain but the color values converted to the color space of your monitor, choose Edit > Convert to Profile, and from the RGB menu choose the color profile of your monitor. This will preserve the appearance and also match the colors in PowerPoint but like proofing and assigning you are not seeing what other users may see on their computers.
It is not possible to see the same colors in color managed and non-color managed programs and at the same time simulate how others using different computers may see the colors because different monitors display color values differently. Color managed programs can simulate a common standard color space like sRGB while non-color managed programs can not.
Edit: Have in mind all this will work properly if you have a color profile that describes correctly how your monitor displays colors. What you did as described in your post #6 is assign a color space that may be different than the color space of your monitor. The result is when working in sRGB color space your color managed programs will match the non color managed programs on your monitor but that doesn't mean that the actual sRGB space is displayed and any other color space simulation could be based on a wrong monitor profile.

  • CS6 Monitor Color Settings

    Hi There,
Just wondering in the photoshop CS6 Color settings, "Edit\Color Settings" should the profile be set to monitor color if I have a calibrated monitor, or one of the other settings such as the default.

    No.
It is definitely not a good idea to set your monitor profile as your RGB working space. I would choose one of the Europe or North America Presets.

  • Color Settings (Profile) Question

    -I am using CS4 on a PC.
-A friend of mine does high end printing.
-A couple of months ago he had me set my color settings to ProPhotoRGB. In the haste they were not set back. To sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (sRGB for later reference). Innocently I thought working in ProPhoto (yes I had the choice when opening a file which profile to use) would somehow enhance the photo. Now I know better, but…..
-I manipulated many photos using the ProPhoto setting, but in some cheap, quick printing to a universal machine most consumers would have processing done with, they looked horrible, to say the least.
-We determined the problem to be the setting and I have switched it back to sRGB.
    Question:
Can I open the old processed photos and change the Color setting (EDIT-> Assign Profile) and be good to go, or are the ProPhoto colors embedded in the photos and I need to start from scratch with my RAW files and convert to new jpg files and move forward?
I tried opening one of the bad jpg and converting the color setting/profile and even opened a psd I had created of a collage and saved it as a jpg but in Bridge the color still looks bad. (PSD color is fine).
If I have to start over, so be it. It’s only months, not years and I will have learned something. I would however, like to speed up the process an easier way, if possible.
    Thanks for any response.

Yes you should be able to just change as you stated.  ProPhotoRGB is a wider gaumet color range so some color shifting may be evident.  This gets into a very complex subject, or which I am not an expert.

  • Why doesn't Bridge recognize the color labels I've applied to images in Lightroom?

I used to mark images yellow in LR if I needed to do further work on them in Photoshop.  Once exported as jpegs, I'd open them in Bridge and sort for color labels.  In the last year or so, Bridge stopped seeing those labels.  It doesn't work in CS4 or CS6.

Thank you for your prompt response, Victoria!   I did what you said and made the labels match.  I then restarted both Bridge and LR and exported a file as a test.  It didn't work.  The image marked with a label in LR shows no label in Bridge.  I even restarted the computer and it still doesn't work.  Is there something else I can try?

  • Why doesn't my Mac mini retain settings?

Since I installed Mountain Lion, my Mac mini does not retain settings. Every day, I have to reverse the scroll direction of my mouse. I have to remove apps from my dock that I removed the day before but now have reappeared (this actually happened before installing Mountain Lion, too).
When I enter usernames, nothing is ever "smart" - I have to type the whole thing.
These are just some of the quirky things that are going on.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Why doesn't Photoshop CS6 boot into Extended Mode? My GPU is Supported!

Ok got a new laptop, quad core and went to install the trial of Photoshop CS6 Extended and it will not boot into extended mode but rather the original Photoshop mode, and I know this by the splash screen with the circles and the fact there is no 3D menu. A friend did the same on his laptop (different hardware) and his booted into Photoshop CS6 Extended. We used the same Adobe Download Assistant to do our installs. My GPU is the ATI Radeon 6520G and it has support for both Open GL & Open CL. It appears in the Performance preferences with GPU checked and Open CL is selectable in advanced. Now my question is why can't I get into Extended Mode? Why can't we just force it to do so? I have seen this issue all over the place and it seems to be related mostly to ATI/AMD chipsets. Any help is appreciated, I would like to try out the 3D options.
I even tried installing the latest ATI Radeon drivers which are beta 2.7, same issue.
    Thanks,
    Michael

Did you download the trial version of the software directly from Adobe.com?
What Chris is trying to say is that there's no known reason why the legitimate trial version from Adobe shouldn't enable the 3D features on a system that supports GPU operations, as you've said yours does:
My GPU is the ATI Radeon 6520G and it has support for both Open GL & Open CL. It appears in the Performance preferences with GPU checked and Open CL is selectable in advanced

  • Why doesn't Photoshop CS6 recognizes its Twain Driver

I've downloaded the Twain driver for Photoshop CS6 from Adobe and copied the Twain.plugin file to the Photoshop Plugin directory in Applications. I'm using a Mac with 10.6.8. I then restarted CS6 but there isn't a mention of 'Twain' in the Import menu? So also not my scanner. Which is an Epson Stylus SX130. Why not?

    Is your scanner driver 64-bit?

  • Apex Version 4.2: Why doesn't the session timeout parameter settings work?

Prior to an upgrade to Apex Version 4.2.0.00.27, we ran Apex Version 4.1 in our environment. This is on a platform using Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 11g R2 on Windows Server 2008. The session timeout parameters (set for a single application using "Shared Components" -> "Security Attributes") were set to the following:
    Maximum Session Time: 1 day
Maximum Session Idle Time: 8 hours
This worked with no problems in Apex 4.1; our user would leave a data entry form open for several hours, complete the data entry then submit the page. Now, with the upgrade to Apex 4.2, doing the same thing causes the system to redirect to the login page and aborting any edits or new data entered into the form previously.
I have tried to set both session parameters to ZERO (0) which is what the documentation explains is the equivallent to "no timeout" but that didn't work as well.
I have reset the session control parameters to what they were before the upgrade and my session times out before the time values I set. (on the version 4.2 upgraded instance).
Why was the session timeout parameters I set ignored by the system? Can anyone else out there confirm/repeat the problem I observed?

    Hi Richard,
You probable have it ok, but the time should be in seconds.

So I downloaded photoshop cs6 from creative.adobe.com. When I went to install it said it could't verify my subscription.

  • Photoshop CS6 random color shifts

Here's the lowdown on my system/machine:
    Photoshop CS6 (version 13.0.4)
    Mac platform, OSX (version 10.8.4)
    2 x 2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
I'm having  problems with color shifts in a batch of images from a common Photoshop document.
I make 28 images from a single file, think of it like a picture frame where the frame doesn't change but the art depicted in it changes.
Since they come from the same Photoshop document they all have the same profiles and settings, they are all the same size and the frame should never change color—but it does.
    Therein lies the problem.
A color shift in the art wouldn't really be noticable since the art is different every time. The frame is the same across all the images and the shift is obvious in the frame.
We use an Applescript to speed up the process; The script turns on a layer, flattens the image, then saves it out as an EPS for placement in InDesign, reverts to the layered version, then turns on the next layer and repeats the operation.
Of the 28 images, 3 of them have a noticable color shift.
It's never the same images that shift, it's just a random assortment that are effected (right now it happens to be 3, the next set of images may have more or it may have less).
Here's a screen shot of the color build in a specific location on sample 1:
Screenshot of the color build in exactly the same location on sample 2:
Here's a screenshot of the effected files in the directory (those highlighted in green are shifted):
    Has anyone else seen this?
    After some basic file analysis:
The shift occurs when the person working in the file creates a new document and copies the existing components from the master file into the new file.
I'm still confused since it's done on the same machine, with the same color settings/profiles, by the same person. It is still random.
    BAD

Okay then. I mean when I use the Eyedropper Tool on the color that I had already put on a picture, the color becomes darker than what is shown when I use the Brush tool.
Like when I put light red as the foreground color, then switch it out for another color, then used the Eyedropper tool to copy the light red color to use it again, the light red color instead becomes a slight darker red when I use the brush or other related tools I use to color in my picture.
Hope this detail is clear enough.

  • ID color settings ??

Where in the adobe Application Data or Local Settings files are the Color Settings kept?
If I go to Edit > Color Settings and set my color settings and than want to push those out to everyone in my organization that uses InDesign, how would I do that?
Especially if I have my own custom file..
    thanks.

You can't set an application default Color Setting—at least not the way you can set something like a default font by closing all docs and choosing the font. The best you can do is sync from Bridge, but that doesn't stop a user from changing the Color Setting in ID, which then becomes the setting until it is changed or sync'd.
Also, even if you could force a setting on all users and they promised never to change the settings, it wouldn't necessarily mean the enforced settings' profiles and policies would be used for existing documents. The document's assigned profiles override the Color Settings profiles, and they could be different than the current Working Spaces. And, Policies are set when you create the document—so changing the Policies in Color Settings has no effect on existing docs.

  • Color Settings: Getting colors in PS CC to match colors of the image when used as a Windows Background

or vice versa. I probably do not know enough to be able to ask the question properly.
The colors of photos in PS CC are not the same when used as a desktop background in Windows 7. The colors are somewhat more saturated when as a background on the desktop and while not totally unusable, it would be nice to have matching color between my PS editing screen and the photo as viewed as a desktop background.
The following are some conditions that may or may not be relevant to the answer of my following question.
1.) I am a complete novice to Color Management so a presumption of knowledge and the heavy use of jargon may not penetrate my head.
2.) I shoot with sRGB embedded in my photos.
    3.) My RAW conversions use sRGB IEC61966 - 2.1.
4.) My PS Color Settings are North American General Purpose 2 with sRGB IEC61966 - 2.1 as the working space and Intent as Relative Colormetric
    5.) In the Win 7 Control Panel>Color Management>Device, my Device = NEC LCD2690wuxi, ICC Profile = NEC LCD2690wuxi (default), file name = nl269wui.icm
6.) In the Win 7 Control Panel>Color Management>Advanced, Device profile = System Default sRGB IEC61966 - 2.1 and (everything else set to System Defaults too). The only difference from the PS Color Settings being that Windows is defaulted to Perceptual Intent, but a change in either PS or Win 7 has no effect on the relative color differences.
7.) The monitor is set to the Native internal preset, but the relative differences in color remain the same even if the monitor is changed to sRGB, or any other internal preset.
8.) I have Proof Setup set to Monitor RGB but none of the settings will match the Win 7 Background color.
Now, my question is this. How would you set up your color settings/profile in PS and/or Windows to match color between PS and the Windows desktop of Windows 7?

Nevermind. I didn't have Proof Colors checked.
