Why doesn't remote desktop work on mavericks ?
I'm trying to connect to a small (10) local network of imacs all running Mavericks 10.9.3. I'm using Remote Desktop over Bonjour and also trying to share an iTunes library using Home sharing. None of the computers will respond. I get an error (-3170) on the target computers for the home sharing and RD tells me they're all sleeping when I can see perfectly well that they are awake and logged in. They all have RD client 3.7.1 installed but the response I get from RD when I try to wake them is 'this is not supported on these computers'.
Apple, what is going on ? This system worked wonderfully well under 10.6.8 and now it's completely screwed with Mavericks. Frustrating the **** out of me as none of it seems logical in the least, especially as all the computers respond readily via the 'Go/connect to server/browse/connect method'. They are obviously all connected it's just this new OS just doesn't work. Really disappointing :-(
You may have to contact Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE or contact an Apple Store directly.
I am no expert on this particular Apple software.

Desperately Need Help: Why won't remote desktop work w/VPN to a PC?
I am seriously losing my mind and the IT people at my job are clueless. I am not that sophisticated but, when it comes to macs, I might as well be a genius in comparison to them. At work I have a PC running Windows Vista. I have installed on my Mac (running Mavericks) VPN through Netextender. I can connect to VPN with no problems. However, when I try to login thru remote desktop, it tells me my work computer cannot be reached. My work computer is most certainly on and reachable. I desperately need to figure this out!! Please help!
Hi Gailkav,
Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with USB in your Lenovo B50-30 laptop.
Try to connect other USB devices like pen drive, external HDD and check if that is been recognized,
Try to boot the system into safe mode and check for the issue.
Hope this helps. Do post back if the issue persists!
Best regards,
Ashwin. S

Having trouble maintaining remote desktop connection with Mavericks. What is this about needing RDC 3.7.1 with Mavericks. I downloaded RDC 3.7.1 but it does not replace RDC 2.1.0 previously installed
Lucky you, it did not work for many users (which as it should be) so MS produced a new version, for ML and Mavericks.
It's in the App Store, for free.
FYI, I assume that you were attempting to post a picture, no one can see it (except maybe you) because it is on your computer rather than the forum server.

Use the small camera icon in the editor toolbar to post it.
It also looks like you attempted to use Apple Remote Desktop, which does not do Windows. -
Been watching HD TV shows over home WI-FI from remote desktop using Apple TV for a month with my 1080i TV. Tonight getting error on TV, even on recently watched shows, "This content requires HDCP for playback. Either your HDMI cable isn't properly connected, or your HDMI connection doesn't support HDCP. Please reconnect the HDMI cable from your Apple TV to your HDTV and try again". All other media from remote desktop working OK, including 720p movie. WI-FI network running normal at about 4.7 mB/sec. Any ideas? Thanks.

Why doesn't my timeline work in IE?
I created this page with a basic timeline. The timeline works in Firefox, Safari and Chrome but not in IE. All my browsers are up to date. Any help would be appreciated!
http://laartgallery.net/index2.html
Thanks again,
SteveNancy; THANK YOU!! OK..it still does not work but I see where there are a lot of errors. I changed the head tags and it still does not work but I would assume I can go to the site/page you sent and it analyzes webpages for errors? I will keep at it til I get it right or maybe redo the page but thank you very much for your time...I truly appreciate it. Steve

Why doesn't Screen Sharing work across multiple displays anymore in Mavericks?
Hey Guys,
I'm having a problem with Screen Sharing in Mavericks. It wasn't a problem in Mountain Lion, so I'm wondering if you could help me.
I use a Mac Pro with multiple displays to connect to another Mac Pro with multiple displays. Here's how it looks at first:
Two remote desktops shown in one window on one display locally. (Note: there are two different displays connected to this Mac Pro.)
In Mountain Lion, I used to be able to scale this up across displays. When I do that now, the remote desktop scales down to the lower-left corner. Observe:
When I mouse over it, there's some screen tearing (artifacts):
Any ideas?
Notes:
Yes, I've Google'd it.
I don't have Mavericks' multi-display support enabled. I disabled it to spread out Avid Media Composer and Adobe After Effects usage.
Thank you,
Isaac T.(bump)

Microsoft Remote Desktop - Works on 10.4 but not on 10.5
I know that this is an OS 10.5 forum but the Mactopia website is useless and the forum there is non-responsive. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on why I'm able to connect to my office XP machine using 10.4 on an old powerbook over a wireless network but not able to connect using 10.5 on a newer iMac on the same network.
Thoughts are appreciated.I've used Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Mac OS X Client
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx>
And I've used CoRD (Microsoft RDC Screen Sharing)
<http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30808>
successfully on 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6.
Are they the same version? And is that the latest version from Microsoft?
I assume all other networking stuff is working OK.
Have you tried the XP system's IP address, just in case it is a naming issue?
Does RDC connect at all?
Do you get the chance to login?
How far do you get and what kind of error/failure do you see? -
How well does MS Remote Desktop work?
For those that have used Microsoft's Remote Desktop client, http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx, have you found it satisfactory? Does it work fine with either Vista or XP?
Does the Windows machine need anything special installed or is this the counterpart to the Windows version of Remote Desktop?Yes

Apple Remote Desktop issues in Mavericks
After upgrading to Mavericks from Snow Leopard on my MacBook Air, Apple Remote Desktop skewed all my lists. I can no longer control any of my client machines (even after I updated to clients to 3.7.1) and the overall performance is choppy at best. I am able to control client machines that have a static IP i.e. Servers etc., but ARD does not see any DHCP clients when scanning ethernet or wireless and will not let me control or view any existing clients that I maintained prior to installing Mavericks. Anybody else experiencing problems with ARD in Mavericks?
You might try to turn off the firewall on the client. Yes, this appears to be a bug. If you can connect to the client thru SSH you can use this:
sudo /usr/libexec/ApplicationFirewall/socketfilterfw --getglobalstate
That should return:
Firewall is enabled. (State = 1)
Then you can run:
sudo /usr/libexec/ApplicationFirewall/socketfilterfw --setglobalstate off
That should return:
Firewall is disabled. (State = 0) -

How does Remote Desktop work if I have different osx?
I have to access a power mac running 10.5.8 (A) from a newer mac (B).
It is my understanding that the latest version of Apple Remote Desktop is not compatible with the older operating system (A).
The question is: do I have to purchase two different copies of the ARD (one for "A" another for "B")?
The quest for the old version has been unsuccessful so far.
Any ideas, corrections or recommedations are welcomed.
Thank you,
oshimediaHi
"The quest for the old version has been unsuccessful so far"
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC172Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
The version in the linked url will install and work for all versions of the OS going back to at least 10.4 (Tiger). It will also install and work for 10.7 (assuming you did not purchase it via the App Store) but you have to follow these instructions to install it properly:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4055?locale=en_US
Once installed run Software Update and the appropriate update should be available for whatever OS version you have installed.

Does Remote Desktop Work on Mac
I have convinced my father to go Mac. He is nearing retirement from his practice and most of his time is spent messing with pictures of the grandkids, but he is not retiree yet and still needs to connect at night to his offices PC's through remote desktop. I know there is a version of Remote Desktop you can download from Microsoft, but my question is does this do the same thing as the PC version. Will he be able to connect and uses windows through his office?
The version from Microsoft is very buggy and crashes a lot for me. I've had better luck with CoRD (which crashes on rare occasions) and have compiled the Linux rdesktop, which runs like lightning but doesn't have the nice features of CoRD.
