Hi i wanted to know a little situation about my Mac Book pro may someone help me? it is about the Key F4 i wanted to know why when i click it my launchpd does not open. Is there something wrong with my mac book or its just that i have to fix something on my system prefences? Please help me and respond to me.

iTunes in Mac OS X Tiger is outdated. Open  > Software Update to install the latest iTunes version for Tiger.
If you need iTunes 10.7 or a newer version, you have to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. First, check that your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 If it is, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After buying Snow Leopard, make a backup of your data, insert the DVD and upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest Snow Leopard version. How can you tell if your fan is working on your mac book pro? I cannot hear mine running and can't feel any air coming out. A couple of weeks ago, my battery literally exploded out of the case, Is this an item that can be self serviced or does it require a trip to the Apple repair store?

Macbook pro fan usually has really LOW noise, and it is not really strong, so you might not feel the air.
Fans are used to cool the CPU and GPU, not batteries.
But if you need to replace fans or batteries, take it to the store. Make reservations to save time.

Most users buy iDVD (part of iLife 11 ON DISK).
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

The battery still as before indicates not charging and no lights on the battery pack confirm this along with the system profiler which suggests the battery should be replaced. The charger itself actually works ok.
Any further advice would be useful.

Do you recommend the Mac Book Pro?

I am looking to purchase a laptop for my own use (work and personal). I will be editing video, doing photography, and also use it for word processing. Do you recommend the Mac Book Pro 2.4 Ghz? Would there be any compelling reason to invest in the 2.5 Ghz instead? and why?

I can only see 3 advantages of the 2.5 GHz version.
1. Faster processor, but is anyone going to notice that tiny increase ...... it's laughable.
2. Twice as much VRAM but the base model has enough for all the apps in Final Cut Studio 2, so why would you need more unless you are an extremely busy pro .......... but if that were the case you would not be using a laptop. (Cue indignant protests!)
3. 50GB more HD which again is a minute increase. If you are doing video you should ideally keep all your big media files on an external FireWire HD.

If you want to set which OS your system boots into (provided Windows is installed using BootCamp and not a virtualization option such as Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox), just hold the "Option" key down when you turn your computer on. Continue to hold the key down until you see the options for booting into the OS of your choice. Just click on the arrow under the one you wish (tap to click won't work here if you have it enabled... you'll need to physically click the trackpad). If you want to change which OS your system normally boots into, just go into System Preferences in OS X and select "Starup Disk". Whichever OS you select here will be the OS your system will automatically boot into.

A Time Machine backup drive should be substantially larger than the system drive. If you have a 128 or 256 GB SSD then a 1 TB drive will suffice. If you have a 512 GB SSD then a 2 TB drive will suffice. As leroydouglas indicated any brand other than WD will do.

Should I go for the Mac book pro or the iMac?

Here's my dilemma: I am about to be a sophomore in college and my HP laptop just isn't cutting it for my regular use. My question (which I know is hard to answer) is whether I should purchase the Mac book pro or an iMac. Keep in my I have an iPhone and an iPad, which both come in handy for browsing. I currently use my iPad to keep most of my notes and lectures, but I still need a good computer. I need advice from someone who has had this same problem or owns both an iMac and MacBook Pro. I know my iPad doesn't replace a laptop and I will probably be told to decide whether I need portability, but I would like to hear from someone who also had to make this decision. I'm not leaning to one or the other right now. I am at my home for a good bit, but I do travel around a lot since I am in college. With google drive and other apps I can do most of my writing on my iPad, but for printing reasons I still need the computer. So what are some opinions on which is a better but considering my needs?

In college, my guess would be that portablity would be very important. Since the iMac isn't that sort of eliminates it from consideration.

Yosemite downloaded and installed than Black screen. all we have is a black screen. Traveling in Indonesia so no Apple store nearby. The screen does not respond to reboot in safe mode. Can anyone help to get the Mac Book Pro up and running again?

We are in indonesia travelling and after downloading and installing Yosemite, on our next restart the screen went black and responds to nothing. Tried to reboot (shift key) in safe mode after first crashing the system but nothing responds except for the opening chime. Toal disaster so any help will be greatly appreciated. Judging by the comments I have read, Yosemite seems to have many issues for us to look forward to, if and when we can bring back the Mac Book Pro to life.

See if you can boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down). There you can reinstall the system.

Apple's OS X Lion is terrible, it's the beginning of the end, a transition to locked down iOS X on Mac's and Apple's exit from the "computing" market into something only for consumers only really based on the closed iOS concept. They are really going overboard on this, pushing the App Store in your face when you do searches and everything.
The "candy like" OS X interface gets kind of tiring, it used to be we could avoid a lot of it, but now Apple is pressing it more into one's faces. So forget having a professional or mature look about OS X anymore.
The App Store is like something made and to appeal to children and Toy Story cartoon watchers, not appealing to mature serious people.
OS X is pretty and all, the high quality screens of Mac's make OS X look nice and attractive, but I also run Windows 7 on my Mac and it looks just as great, Windows also has a more mature looking UI.
All in all there is really no advantage to getting a Mac over a PC anymore, since with Win 7 Microsoft provides the free Security Essentials and System Restore to make disks and images to restore one's own machine themselves easy as pie.
I'm a long time Mac user, from day one, because Mac's were innovative and more secure than Windows, however Apple has tarnished that image when I found out they were not issuing security updates for older OS X versions and not fast enough for Java, (they control) which resulted in a 600,000 botnet of Mac's called Flashflake.
Sure finally Apple issued a security update for 10.5 users, but on Intel processors only, not the zillions still on PowerPC processor Mac's.
Apple is so much about change to sell hardware that they burn bridges behind them, hopefully that will change now under Tim Cook's rule, (Steve Jobs died) I suspect it will.
Apple's OS X market share has been decreasing, not because Apple isn't selling things, but rather a larger portion of it's users are now using iOS devices instead of Mac's.
Before iOS arrived, it was 10% of users on OS X/Macs, now it's 4% iOS and 6% on OS X/Macs as recorded outside of China's Great Firewall.
I guess the positive thing is, I've only got one piece of malware on my Mac's in 24 years, however I've spent about 10x more for my computers over the years than my PC using friends have because of all the Apple hardware and OS X changes draining my wallet.
For instance they changed video out from DVI to Dual DVI, to Displayport to something else and now Thunderbolt, it's just insane you can't go back into a Apple store and pickup a piece of hardware anymore or older OS X, they start pumping you to change this or that and don't tell you what's it's really going to cost in the end to upgrade everything.
I swear they want us to turn over our machines every two years now like a iPhone or something.
If your a smart PC user, you know then what hardware to buy and how to reinstall Windows yourself, I don't see why you would give up so much hardware and software choice to use a locked down, DRMed Mac that's designed for newbies and children mostly and exiting the "pro" type market more and more every year.
If you think my compaints about Apple above pale in comparison to your experience with Windows 7, then by all means get a Mac, bring a fat wallet and they will be all over you like any high end fashion or Gucci store would.
