Why doesn't two-finger scrolling work for me with Yosemite?

MacBook Pro from 2010, upgraded to Yosemite and now none of my two-finger scrolling works with the Trackpad. Doesn't work on any application - Chrome, Safari, Word, anything. It's super annoying. Tried messing around with Trackpad options in system preferences, didn't help.

Hi thekidcanada,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that this type of situation can be very frustrating. One troubleshooting step I would recommend would be to reset the PRAM on your computer. I know the article is written for Mavericks but the steps will be the same for Yosemite.

  • Why isn't two finger scroll working for both users

I recently set up two users on our home iMac, the trackpad srolling option and swipe right to left / left to right only works for one. Is this to be expected or could I have a defected trackpad? I've compared the options selected in system preferences and they're the same.

Look under the Trackpad preferences under System Preferences. I'm sure you will find what you need there.

  • Why doesn't my email address work for apps

Why doesn't my email address work on my envy printer?

You don't give us anything like enough data to go on. What is your operating system? Do you have a functioning iCloud account - i.e. are you signed in in System Preferences>iCloud?
Were you originally a MobileMe subscriber? If so, did you migrate to iCloud?
Was your email still working recently? Do you get any error messages? What happens when you try to use it?
Have you been using an @icloud.com address or an @me.com address?

  • Why Doesn't "Gift This Movie" Work For HD Movies?

So I'm making up the list of movies I'd like for Christmas, only to discover there's no way for someone else to gift me the HD iTunes movies I want. To reproduce this, go to an HD movie like Kill Bill or Star Trek, click on the little arrow next to "Buy Movie", and the first option is "Gift this movie". Now do the same for the little arrow next to "Buy HD Movie"; there is no option for "Gift this movie".
What gives? So the only way someone can give me an HD iTunes movie for Christmas is to give me a gift card? That's pretty cheesy.
I have a hard time buying there is a logical explanation for this. It can't be that Apple is concerned that HD movies don't play on all Apple devices, since I assume that an SD version of the movie comes with the HD version (as it did, for instance, with Mad Men season 3). It can't be a requirement from the movie industry: if they've authorized the movie be made available in HD, why should they care if it is gifted? And clearly Apple already has the purchase / delivery / redemption mechanisms in place for gifting movies; why would HD movies matter?
Could this purely be a support issue? Apple is worried about people accidentally gifting HD movies to people who aren't prepared for a multi-GB download, and getting calls from upset customers?

I'm having this same problem. I would like to gift a couple HD movies for my parents' Christmas gifts in addition to an Apple TV. It doesn't look like there's an option to do this for HD movies. Has anyone else discovered a way to do this?

  • Why doesn't multi-touch scrolling work in my Macbook Air?

I just upgraded my (first edition) Macbook Air to Lion. Unfortunately, I've found that two-fingered scrolling does not work in Mail and Safari (and probably other apps as well). When I try to scroll with two fingers, the cursor won't move at all. Other two-fingered gestures, such as zoom and pinch, work fine. Any ideas what's wrong? I checked the system preferences under both Trackpad and Keyboard and didn't see anything useful. Thanks!

Never mind! After I posted this, the relevant answer appeared in the More Like This column. (Funny that I couldn't find that answer before I posted the question.)

  • Why doesn't System.out.println work for Palm?

    In my Java code,
how come I don't see any output on my screen (Palm Vx) when I try this?
    System.out.println("Hello World");
Where is the output really going to???

    Hi,
On POSE (Palm OS emulator), the System.out.println() method output is a file called STDOUT.txt, filed in some directory of the emulator.
On the eal device, I think theres no output for system.out.println().

  • Two-finger scroll doesn't work in the "comments list" in Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader XI version 11.0.07, Mac 10.9.3
Two-finger scroll works great in the main pane.  However it doesn't work in the comments list area (View -> Comments -> Annotations).
Dealing with 500+ annotations that I have to approve.  Not being able to scroll through them easily is frustrating.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • MB Air two finger scroll does not work for a user but does for another

    Hi
    MB Air. 10.9.3.
Defective Trackpad was just replaced. Two finger scroll does not work for the main user. I made a test log in and two finger scroll works. I booted off an external drive and two finger scroll works.
I pulled all of the user preferences out, logged out and in and still does not work. Zapped PRAM. Checked all trackpad settings. No luck.
    Tried this in Terminal:
    defaults write -g com.apple.trackpad.scrollBehavior 2
    Any ideas?

This sounds strange but check the settings in Settings>Accessability for the track pad. I belive your problem lies there not in Track Pad set up in Settings.

  • T430s Two finger scroll not working reliably

    Hi!
Sometimes it works, sometimes it takes the skin of my fingers to get two finger scroll working.
The system update does not see a reason to update the drivers.
Is there more effective software for the synaptic touchpad to do two finger scroll?

    Hi, theking2
System Update is a very useful tool, but I find it best to always check for driver updates manually, just in case the updater missed something. The latest version of the Syanptics driver can be found here and may help your issue.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Two Finger Scroll Not Working on my Inspiron 3543

It's been just a month since I bought my new lappy. Usually when I start it up, the two finger scroll works just fine in the Start menu of Windows 8.1.
But after about 10 minutes or so, when I press Start for something, and try scrolling with the two fingers... BAMM !!!!   It's futile. Nothing happens whatsoever.
    Please help. All responses appreciated.

    Hey,
First of all... Thank you for replying. I don't remember any specific update but, the Windows action center keeps downloading some additional updates if that's what you are referring to. And I also tried to update my touchpad driver, but it says that it is already up to date.
Regarding the Dell TouchPad properties, I already tried that and it is configured as per my convenience. Yet it goes through the same error.
          Thank you again for suggesting.

  • T440s Win 8.1 Remote Desktop two finger scrolling

Two finger touchpad scrolling in Chrome desktop mode has been pretty bad on my T440s until the recent driver update.  But after the update, I've noticed now that in the tiles version of remote desktop, two finger scrolling no longer works.  It acts as a right mouse click and hold to select text or drag.  In the desktop version of remote desktop on windows 8.1, two finger scrolling works fine.
I saw an article about editing the Synaptics config file to get two figure scrolling to work in the desktop version by adding a lince that references mstsc.exe, but that line is already in my Synaptics config file.  Not sure how to get Synaptics to pass gestures when using the tiles/metro version of RDP.
    Any ideas?

Well, I've confirmed it.  This is a Synaptics driver issue.  I went back to a 16.X version and the scrolling within windows 8.1 tiles version of remote desktop works.
But, I can see what Synaptics did between these two drivers.  In the latest version of the driver, two finger scrolling is now handled like trackpoint scrolling now.  With trackpoint, if you hold the center button down and mobe the trackpoint vertically, a vertical scroll icon appears and scrolling works well in windows 8.1 and within a remote desktop session in using the tiles version.  The vertical scroll icon appears in both cases.  And when you do two figure scrolling in the desktop, the vertical scroll icon appears, but when you go to a remote desktop session (tiles version), two finger scroll does NOT work, no vertical scroll icon appears.  In the remote desktop session, the two finger scroll is treated like a right click and drag.  This is horrible because if you try to two finger scroll in an explorer window, you can accidentally move files or folders into other folders!!!!  FRUSTRATING and dangerous!
In the desktop version of remote desktop, this is not an issue, when two finger scrolling happens, the vertical scroll icon does appear and scrolling works!
In the old version of driver, the two finger scrolling must be handled independently of the way trackpoint scrolls... there is never a vertical scroll icon but scrolling always works, albeit herky jerky and buggy in some programs.  In the new version of driver, the bugginess is now fixed, except this new two finger scrolling issue has been introduced.
I think the suggestion about modifying the Synaptic tp4table.dat file is a good one except that I can't seem to add a windows 8.1 tiles app to this file... have no idea how to do that as the tiles apps are OS protected and are not exactly .exes.  UGH!  Ideas about this??
Just got off a horrible telephone support session trying to report this... tech kept asking me about my boot issues... I don't have boot issues!  I don't expect any help to come soon... I guess I hope someone at Lenovo or Synaptic actually reads this stuff!
Please Synaptic... this should be a simple, quick fix.

  • Two finger scroll not working in Microsoft Word for Mac

Just finished installing Yosemite today and haven't had any real issues...however, I've noticed that two-finger scrolling doesn't work in Microsoft Word for mac. It works fine in many other applications (including other Microsoft apps--Excel & PowerPoint), but not Word.
I've looked for any scrolling options that may be "unchecked" in the preferences, but haven't found any.

I'm having the same issue. However, I have restarted and it still won't work. This is extremely frustrating as I have the latest updates and everything but it doesn't work and I keep forgetting every time I try to scroll.
I'm also having the issue of whenever my Mac goes to sleep or if I turn it off, the log in screen says there are updates necessary. I feel like this is a bug because I've updated my computer like 20 times in the past few days...

  • Two finger scrolling doesn't work after switching to lion

I recently upgraded my 2011 macbook pro to lion.  All trackpad functions seem to work except two finger scrolling, which worked fine before the upgrade.  I found the discussion forum that I've pasted below on how to fix this problem.  Being something of a luddite, I don't know how to either check or change the settings in the users global preferences.  Some instruction or other thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as I miss two-finger scrolling!
    Thanks!
The correct value in the users global preferences file for com.apple.trackpad.scrollBehavior is 2 to enable scrolling.
To set it correctly open a terminal window and type the following:
    defaults write -g com.apple.trackpad.scrollBehavior 2
You will have to log out and back to see the setting change. Worked for me.
you can check your current setting by typing:
    defaults read -g com.apple.trackpad.scrollBehavior

It'd be much easier to go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad tab > Trackpad options... button > check Scrolling.

  • [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

Hi everyone, i updated my system yesterday to the new xorg server (1.11.1-2). Everything works except for the two finger scrolling on my synaptics touchpad.
    There is some info:
    Kernel:  3.0.6-2 (stock)
    Synaptics Touchpad driver: 1.5.0-1 (lastest)
Right side scrolling works fine, two or three finger tapping doesn't work either.
