Why doesnt iCloud back up my data automatically?

iCloud is suppose to back up my iPod touch 4g automatically every time I plug into power and am connected to wifi. However, it doesn't. Instead, I have to manually press "back up now". Am I doing something wrong? I am running iOS 5 and I plug my iPod into a wall charger

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I should have said that I already have about 4gb stored on iDisk but most of it is stuff which is also on my laptop and when I use Backup I expect the stuff already on iDisk to not be duplicated.
I don't know what to choose, or where it resides. I think I once lost stuff because I deleted it from one location and then Sync wiped it elsewhere. I grow weak just thinking about it.

  • Why doesnt icloud work with ios 7 on my iphone 4

Ever since a week before iOS 7 came out, I haven't been able to select iCloud in my settings. When I upgraded to 7, it did not fix it. Now whenever I unlock my iPhone, it tells me to accept the new icloud terms. I tap on view terms, then it just brings me to the main settings menu. Nothing else! Sometimes it asks me to enter my Password for the account. I enter it, nothing happens! It doesn't even bring me to the settings menu! I tried resetting it, nothing happens, me and my dad checked the parental controls settings, it did not have to do with any issues. Along with icloud, I can't select Face time, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Or Location Services
    I would appreciate any help!

Try downloading the Find My Friends app and sign in with your iCloud ID to see if you can accept the terms and conditions from there.

  • HT1766 After restoring yesterdays icloud back up one of my Apps has lost all its data.  How can I get the data back as its important to me.

I accidentally added a passcode to my ipad mini after yesterdays IOS7 update.   I then promptly forgot the passcode (I think apple secretly changed it really).
Its taken me 2.5hours to figure out how to reset my ipad after discovering there was no other way of getting into my ipad around the passcode.
Luckily my ipad backs up every evening to icloud so i had a new back up sat waiting for me.
Annoyingly, itunes wouldnt let me restore the factory settings as the "find my phone" thing was switched on.  The only way to turn it off appeared to be via my ipad which I was unable to get into.
I eventually figured out how to restore it without this problem, by pressing the home button as I turned it on and then getting itunes to recognise it as a new ipad and restoring its settings that way.
Following this it was relatively simple to restore my icloud back up.
Everything appears to be here, my calander, my contacts etc.  All my apps have been restored and Im yet to find any app that has missing data except for one (naturally the one that is most important to me).
This one app appears to have been returned to my ipad but it no longer has any data attached to it.  I have lost everything.  Payment info, Client info etc.
Is there any way of recovering the data.  I presume its floating around the ether somewhere given I automatically back up to icloud every night.
    Cheers

There's one other variable, although it shouldn't really come in to play but worth checking anyway.  Is it possible that the backup was made using a higher version of iOS than the one you are running now?  For example, if you were running the iOS 7 beta, then restored to version 6.1.3, the backup would not be listed as you cannot restore to a backup made on a device running a higher version of iOS.  If that's the case, you would have to update to the same or higher version of iOS in order to access your backup.
Also, you can redownload apps and certain other purchased media (in most countries) as discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519.

  • Why is my iPhone iCloud back up so large?

My iCloud back up for my iPhone is 5.3 gb, yet I am hardly backing up any app data. Where is the rest of the data coming from?
Here is a list of things iCloud backs up
What do you think takes up the most space?
I deleted all of my messages and voicemails. My camera roll is relatively small and I have less than a gb of app data.
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll - 2 gb
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data - 70 mb
    Home screen and app organization
Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS) - deleted
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails - deleted
    What am I missing?
Re: My iCloud storage is over capacity and I can't figure out why

From what I understand the back up is a rolling back up and therefore the next back up will add to what is already there. I also understand that some items are backed up that can't be turned off in the management settings.

  • I'm temporarily using my daughters 4s since mine went underwater. how do i back up my data on her phone without overwriting her backup file in icloud?

my 4s went in the ocean this past weekend. ugh. guess it was time enough to switch to a 5 anyway. so i commanderred my daughers 4s to use as my own for a week or so while i get the new 5. I backed up her data to our family shared icloud account (7 devices and 50g), and then deleted and restored from my own backup. i also changed the name on her phone to my own. but, now when i look at the backup management on icloud, it shows her backup with "this device" under and my new name on it. I expect if i back up to icloud now it will not overwrite the back up i restored it from, it will overwrite the most recent back up of this device, which was her final back up. how do i back mine up- perhaps just to itunes for a week or so, until i can restore her back up back to her phone?
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks-
    dad in trouble...

If this is your first sync and there is already data on the phone, perform the steps listed below.  This will transfer your apps and other media purchased from the iTunes store to your iTunes library, perform a manual backup and restore, then sync the iTunes media back to the phone from your iTunes library.  This will not transfer media from other sources such as music from your ripped CDs.  As you said you never synced before, I assume all of your apps, music and other media was purchased from the iTuens and App stores.  If this is correct, you won't lose anything.
    Download and install iTunes: http://www.apple.com/itunes/.
Launch iTunes, go to the View menu and click to check Show Sidebar.
Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Edit>Preferences>Devices if using Windows) and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Go to Store>Authorize This Computer and authorize all Apple IDs used to purchase apps and other iTunes media (music, podcasts, movies, tv shows, etc.) on your phone.
On her phone, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and turn iCloud Backup to Off.
Connect her phone to your computer and in iTunes go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer your purchased media to your iTunes library.
Right-click on the name of the phone on the left side of iTunes and click "Reset Warnings".
Right-click on the name of the phone again and click "Back Up" to back up the phone.
Right-click again and choose "Restore from Backup...", select the backup you just made to restore from and restore the backup to your phone.  If prompted to back up again, decline.
Go to the Info tab and make sure nothing is checked so you aren't syncing calendars, contacts, etc. with iTunes.
Go to the Summary tab and select This Computer under Automatically Back Up.
Check the other tabs to confirm that your sync settings are the way you want them.
Click Apply at the bottom to sync your phone.

  • Deleted all data still says NOT enough storage for Icloud back up

I have deleted  from my two devices (Iphone 4s and Mini Ipad) all my pictures , videos, emails and notes ( I dont store music)  and I still get the not enough storage on icloud. I dont understand, if i don't have anything in my phone or Ipad why I keep on getting this message. I havent been able to delete apps though.  I dont know what I am doing wrong. What can be occupying space if I have deleted everything.
    Thank you.
I would welcome any help. I am

It's iCloud you don't have enough storage on, not the phone.
You can see what your iCloud storage is used for and delete any unwanted content at settings > iCloud > Backup & Storage > Manage...... on your iOS device. Or System Preferences > iCloud > Manage...... on a Mac.
    You have 3 options......
    Purchase more iCloud storage.
Delete data or back ups that are being stored in iCloud already.
Turn off items to be included in the next back up to reduce its size.

I share an Apple ID with someone but we are now on iOS8 and getting each others messages on our iphones and ipad. How can I split the account safely as well as protect icloud backed up data?

Use different Apple IDs for iMessage (and also FaceTime) to avoid getting each others text messages (and FaceTime calls).  One of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive (and Settings>FaceTime), tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  You can continue to shared the same ID for the iTunes store and other services.

  • HT4859 iCloud backed up my iPad at 3:00 pm yesterday. After that I inadvertently deleted an app called Good Reader with a significant amount of data. Good reader is now missing from my iPad, but appears on my iCloud  account.  How do I get it back?

ICloud backed up my iPad yesterday at 3:00 pm. After that I inadvertently deleted an app called Good Reader which contained a lot of data. iCloud still shows the app, how do I get it back to my iPad?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
To recover completely you'd need to restore from a back up that contained the app data. Alternatively you can just restore the app by redownloading it.
You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option which is revealed by tapping the updates option at the bottom of the screen of the App store app on your iOS device.

  • I lost my Visual Voicemail when upgrading to iphone 5. New phone was set up from itunes backup of iphone4 but my Mac tells me there is an iCloud back up of my phone prior to this date. Will my Vis Voicemail be on this and can I get it on my new phone?

I lost my Visual Voicemail when upgrading to iphone 5. New phone was set up from itunes backup of iphone4 but my Mac tells me there is an iCloud back up of my phone prior to this date. Will my Vis Voicemail be on this and can I get it on my new phone?

I see.  Apple's documentation on what is included in the iCloud backup doesn't explicitly say that it contains voicemails, but that doesn't mean it does not.  You would just have to try restoring the backup to find out.
To restore to your iCoud backup you have to start by erasing the phone.  Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  Then go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud backup.  You will then sign into your iCloud account, accept the terms and conditions, then choose the backup you wish to restore from.  To see an older backup, you may need to tap "Show older backups" (see image below).  Be sure your phone is connected to wifi and your charger as this may take some time to finish.
If this does not recover your voicemails, you can check to see if you have an older iTunes backup that may contain them.  Available backups are shown in iTunes Preferences>Devices on the Backups list.
If all else fails, you could try contacting your carrier.  Voicemail is a carrier feature and they may have an archive you could access.

Have you tried a soft-reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
