Why doesnt my ipod hold wifi bars?

So i just got my ipod 4g a couple weeks ago and i have trouble with keeping wifi. Every time i walk away from the wifi my ipod loses the connection or barely has one bar. I know it isnt my wifi because it works perfect on my android phone and laptop. Also i remember having the same problem on my iPhone 4. i had at&t and all my data would be gone cause it never connected right. Is there spmething i can do to fix this? please help me !!!

Does the iPod connect to other networks OK?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Its not grayed out I can still click the wifi to the on position but then it just stays on that screen where it should list the wifi networks and just keeps searching. I've taken it to multiple locations and still it doesnt see any wifi networks. My ipod is on the current ios version 5.1.1

Sounds like a dead battery. You can have Apple replace it for a flat fee or send it into another third party repair center who can do the job for a lot less.

since i got my ipod in 2011 my ipod wasnt holding its charge. i have wanted to threaten the company to send me a new one for free because i charged it all night when i got it and the next day when i went to use it my battery was dead in less than 5min.

First threatening will not work, bad idea-- always tends to put people off. Have you ruled out a bad cable or charger, or damage or corrosion to the charging port? You could try a Reset, may help, but I'm thinking your battery has gone south. The battery is not meant to last forever, they do wear out. Are you having any other problems, like over heating during charging or during use, did the charging cycles seem to get longer and longer as use time shortened? After approximately 400 charging cycles the battery starts to fail, not holding a charge is a symptom. Maybe time for a new battery. Because the iPod does not have the necessary BT profiles to do that. You can pair with another iOS device via BT via some apps that for peer-to-peer gaming.
You can also use apps for limited file transfer between iOS devices like this app:

Without apps you can pair to newer iPhones to share there interent connection if you have subscribed for sharing with your carrier

The Shuffle uses different drivers that the iPod touch so it could be a driver problem.

Just to clarify, my ipod is brand new, it makes a crackling sound but that is all, when I play music or apps it works! I have reset it 3 times and it hasn't worked yet!! First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
