Why don't all of my file folders in the Bookmarks Toolbar sync their contents? Some do, and some don't.

Problem seems to have started after updating to FF5. (At least, I do not remember having the problem with versions of FF4.) The contents of ALL file folders in the Bookmarks Menu are present and accounted for, but only some of the contents import for the file folders in the Bookmarks Toolbar. btw, I have Smart Bookmarks Toolbar installed. Could there be a compatibility issue with FF5?

You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • I am running Firefox 3.6.13 on MacOS X 10.6.6 and cannot edit bookmarks saved under folders on the bookmarks toolbar, by right clicking on them.

This problem concerns the bookmarks I have saved under folders that are visible in the Bookmarks Toolbar just under the URL window on Firefox. On my firefox browser in Windows XP I can expand one of these folders, right click on a bookmark underneath and I get the properties option which allows me to modify the Name or Location of the Bookmark. Unfortunately I cannot do the same on Firefox running on my Macbook Pro.

If it doesn't work with the Bookmarks toolbar then you can try to do it in the Library (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks).

  • Profile Manager deleted all of my files - not just the profile. Any tips on what happened and how to resolve?

I created a profile with Profile Manager. It dumped a lot of files into the directory that I selected. At that point I wanted to delete the profile and the associated files. When I selected the Delete Profile and Delete Files option it delete all files and folders in the directory - not just the profile files. It offered no warning that it was going to delete more than the profile files. Why did it do this and is there a way to recover the missing files? OS = Windows 7.

You should never select a folder to be used as profile folder that already has files in it.<br />
You should always choose a new and empty folder because you can use the Profile Manager to take up an existing profile by choosing the location.<br />
Removing the profile and opting to delete the files will remove all the files in that folder and remove the folder as well, so be cautious with doing that.

  • Can someone tell me the steps to get rid of the Yahoo toolbar. I have gmail and the right homepage , and when I updatede Firefox I said I didn't want the Yahoo toolbar, but it is there anyway and I don't know how to get rid of it.

I just want to get rid of the **** Yahoo toolbar! If not, I want to go back to the previous version of Firefox. Can someone help me with the steps to do either one of these, Please!!!

I just figured out how to remove it. Go to the Tools menu and select add-ons. Click on extensions, locate Yahoo Toolbar in the list, and off to the right, you can click on "Disable" or "Remove." I disabled, restarted Firefox 4.0, and bingo, no annoying Yahoo toolbar. Hope this helps!

  • How do I add folders on the menu toolbar using windows 7

  • Hello, I just reinstalled Firefox 8.0 and imported my bookmarks.html backup file but the bookmarks toolbar didnt changed with my old bookmarks. Is that a problem or I have to manually add each bookmark again?

dunno what details to tell you, everything important is written in the question. thanks.

You'll have two Bookmarks Toolbar folders now. One from the installation of Firefox (the main one) and a 2nd folder from importing a bookmarks.html file.
Locate the '''''Bookmarks Toolbar''''' folder that is under the '''Bookmarks Menu''' folder and copy or drag'n'drop those bookmarks into the '''Bookmarks Toolbar''' folder that is above the '''Bookmarks Menu''' folder.

  • I restarted my business Mac, Firefox opened up with the bookmark toolbar of my personal Mac, and I added/subtracted folders;can I get old bookmark toolbar back?

I have two iMacs, each one has a separate set of bookmark folders on the bookmark toolbar. Yesterday, I restarted one iMac to update some software. I noticed this morning that the restarted iMac had the same set of bookmark folders on the bookmark toolbar as the other iMac I run. Since I want and need different bookmarks/folders on each computer, I began deleting unneeded folders from the restarted iMac bookmark toolbar.
When I began using firefox on my other iMac, I noticed that its bookmark toolbar was the same as the one I had deleted folders from. I have tried, but cannot find a way to restore these deleted folders. Is this possible to do?

    Hi,
It seems you have sync setup which you should disconnect if you want separate sets of bookmarks.
This article describes a way to get your bookmarks back, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them
If you use time-machine for backups or any other form of backup then use that to restore the bookmarks.
Quit Firefox if it's running. In the Finder, open the Library folder in your home folder (not the Library folder at the top level of your boot volume.) Enter Time Machine and restore the following items:
    Library/Application Support/Firefox
    Library/Application Support/Mozilla
    Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist
    Relaunch Firefox.
    Hope this helps

  • How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the Bookmarks Library?

How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the '''Bookmarks''' Library?
Since the upgrade to version 9.0.1 of Firefox, the Bookmarks feature changes are confusing me. They seem to be confusing themselves as well. The list of bookmarks has changed. The font size is so small that my aging eyes cannot read it without fogging the screen with my breath. Some folders are out of alphabetical order (where I know they were previously good), and some are missing altogether (folders to which I frequently add references).
As for missing or deranged files or folders, was there something that I should have done or now need to do to recover those after the upgrade (or before)?
    With regard to font size,
    1. there is no “Edit Bookmarks” or like option to edit the list in this version
    2. the “zoom” option in the “view” list of functions is greyed out when in “Show All Bookmarks” window
    3. expanding the browser window has no effect on font size
    4. “Preferences” settings for font size has no effect in that window either, including advanced settings
    5. “Help” offers none that I can find.
    Can any of you Help?!?

How do I move all my files from one User Profile (account) into another?
I needed to create a new account and want all of my files accessible in the new one.

ok, what you're learning right now is 101 unix, which is good. Unix is a good thing
now: the way unix works, and macos (which uses unix underneath) the files and folders work like a hierarchy.
the start of that tree is /
so, if you were to do:
    cd /
    (cd means change directory)
it will bring you at the highest branch of the file system.
    cd /Users
will bring you to where all the users are.
to see whats in /Users you can use your friend ls command
    ls means list files/directories
    so:
    cd /Users
    ls -la
(the -la here means show all (even hidden) and long format (very verbose))  this flag is very optional.
    you will see
    fred
    user2
    for example.
if you want to see the desktop of user2 you would change directory to it then list the files.
    for example:
    cd /Users/user2/Desktop
Note that the files and directory are case sensitive, so, desktop is NOT the same as Desktop, or DESKTOP
    ls -la
you should then be able to see everything in users2 desktop
you could have done as well the same thing in smaller steps, for example:
    cd /
    cd Users
    cd user2
    cd Desktop
this is the equivalent of cd /Users/user2/Desktop
So, for your file, i don't know where it was, but know that if you log in as user2, it will directly put you in
    /Users/user2
which most likely the file you had created from the other user was in /Users/user1
if you copied all the files from /Users/original_user to /Users/secondUser
most likely yes, all your mail, bookmarks etc would be copied over.
    so in your case.
    sudo chown -R seconduser:staff /Users/secondUser
    should work
Remember that if you start a path with the character /  it means start from the root of the file system, at the highest top you can ever get.
    so
    cd /Users/fred
    is not the same as
    cd Users/fred
unless you were in / already
i know it may be confusing at first but it's actually very logical if you play with it.
to simplify, think of it that / means C:\  on windows
you can't go any higher than C:\  (in a way)
if you're unsure which directory you're currently in, you can always type:
    pwd
it will tell you where you are.
    for example:
    cd /
    pwd
    this shows  /
    cd Users
    pwd
    this now shows /Users
    cd /System/Library
    pwd will show /System/Library
    cd /
    cd /Users
    cd fred
    cd Library
    pwd will show /Users/fred/Library
unix can look very scary but it's actually vital and very necessary to do tasks sometimes that would take for ever to do via the windows. This is good learning.
so for the myfile you had created, i can't tell you where it is, at the time you created, if you can do a pwd command you'll know the path,
ls -la  (this shows all the files where you are)
if you see myfile in the list
    do a pwd
whatever is return, the real location of the file would be:
    whatever pwd returned / myfile
    I hope that makes sense.

  • Why has itunes moved my music files out of the Music folder?

To my horror I just found out that itunes has moved folders (albums) out of the Music folder, Ive always found those folders very well organized (music, movies, podcasts, etc) now Im seeing some albums mixed with those folders (out of the music folder) and some albums IN the music folder as well, even worse I have the same folder inside Music and out!! with a few tracks on each, but in iTunes everything looks normal and it plays the album as usual, Im losing my mind over this I cant find a way to fix it, I even started moving them manually but there are too many, and for the duplicate folders I have to move the tracks that were moved. Any idea on why did this happen? I dont want to move the folders and lose hours only to find out that itunes did it again!! I thank you very very ver much in advance.

iTunes on a Mac may be more forgiving if you move things around manually, but it isn't really recommended.
Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called iTunes Music instead of iTunes Media. The extra Music folder inside the media folder is used if you had an older library and have allowed iTunes to Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization (iTunes 9) or used File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (iTunes 10/11). Depending on your choices for Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other. (Recent installs of iTunes on a Mac now give the library file the .itl extension)
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your files the following steps should tidy things up (should it be necessary):
    1. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" and click OK. Skip if this option is grayed out (already upgraded) or you prefer the older layout.
    2. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Consolidate files and click OK. This will bring any files currently organized outside the designated media folder into it.   N.B. This will create duplicate copies of any file that needs to be consolidated, and you will need to manually clean up afterwards.
    3. Select iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab, uncheck Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK.
    4. Select iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab, check Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK. This triggers iTunes into reorganizing everything according to your preferences.
    5. (Optional, if applicable) Close iTunes, rename the media folder iTunes Music as iTunes Media then restart iTunes. Check under iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab that the location has automatically updated. If you can't access the media for any reason just undo the folder rename.
PS If you really prefer the older layout, but it is already in the new one then, edit the hidden file .iTunes Preferences.plist in your media folder and change the integer from 1 to 0 before doing step 3.
You should backup your library before attempting any major reorganization.
If iTunes is still creating files or folders in the wrong locations there is a possibility of permissions problems. Offhand I'm not sure of the correct OS X terms but on Windows both the system and user accounts should have full access permissions to all files & folders within the iTunes folder in order for it to work properly.

Hello! I used QuickTime for watch any videos on OS X Mountain Lion, but now, I'm passed to OS X Mavericks and QuickTime, when I open an .avi file, convert this in a .mov file. I'm sorry for my English, I'm French and I don't know speak English very well, but what can I do for QuickTime opens on .avi and doesn't convert to .mov?

    HI GalaxieMusique,
I'm french too, but I'm going to write this post in english so that everyone may understand it
I have the same problem in Mavericks, but I'd say, more important, with QuickLook.
Indeed Quicklook can't read avi movies anymore. Actually it always been the case, but with Perian we were able to fix it. The problem is that Perian is no longer available for Mac OS 10.9....
I'd assume that our only hope is Apple themselves... It would be nice from Apple to creat an add-on for quicklook to be able to preview the avi movies.
In regards with quicktime, you can download QuickTime 7 here:
    http://www.01net.com/telecharger/windows/Multimedia/lecteurs_video_dvd/fiches/10 0.html
and ask all the .avi movies to be played by QuickTime 7 and not QuickTime X (included into Mac OS).
Sorry for the english, we french people can make mistakes sometimes
If anyone has a solution for QuickLook, please do not hesitate. This topic is becoming a real mess....

  • Lost booknamrks sub folders including the bookmarks after restoring from a backup file, how can i retore my bookmarks?

I was organizing my bookmarks, by mistake I deleted a folder, after that I restored from a back up file (from the library window), instead of getting my bookmarks restored, I've lost all the sub folders including the bookmarks within!!! Now i only have the bookmarks in the unsorted bookmarks folder. What went wrong here and how can i get my bookmarks back?

For the next time that this happens:
If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) to get them back.<br />
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).<br />
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.<br />
If it didn't work then you can restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup.<br />
This will replace all current bookmarks and you lose bookmarks that were added since that backup was created.<br />
    <br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
In that case you need to export the current bookmarks to an HTML file before doing the restore and import that HTML file after you have restored the JSON backup.<br />
You can remove duplicates with the CheckPlaces extension or you can copy the existing bookmarks to the clipboard before restoring the JSON backup and Paste them back afterward.

How to make Adobe as your default viewer for all your PDF file instead of the Preview given? Thanks

you need to "Get Info" on the file first. Select it, right click and select 'Get Info' in the menu.
In the window that pops up, near the bottom, the "Open With" drop down menu needs changed. If the drop down menu does not present the one you want, select "Other" and find it.
