Why don't folder trees stay collapsed in LR3?

Why do I get expanded folder trees when starting LR3 that were collapsed when I previously exited the program?  Not all trees are expanded, just those I had worked with earlier, then closed.  I have to close (collapse) each tree before I can see the list of high level folders.

Known bug. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/657489?tstart=0
The workaround is to collapse all subfolders before collapsing the top-level folder. You can do it easily by alt-clicking on the top-level folder.

  • Why don't my restrictions stay the same

My son has an iPhone and every night when he tries to go online, it tells him that he's not allowed to do it and it always has something to do with the restrictions.  I have to go through the restrictions multiple times (enable & disable) before it will finally allow me online.

Try restoring the phone but back up first, this sounds like a software issue and the only way to get rid of that is to obviously restore it!!

  • Why don't folder sizes add up

If I add up the sizes as shown in Get Info for the top level folders on my mac I get about 172 GBytes used...  When i do Get Info on the Macintosh HD itself, it shows only 138 GBytes used...  What's the deal with the other 172 - 138 = 34 GBytes???  Are those hidden files or what???

  • Why does my project not stay rendered ?

Hi, things are generally going swimmingly.
However, after rendering for smooth play of titles and fx and then closing, upon opening the project again, the render is gone and I must render again.  Is this the norm?  Why don't those areas stay rendered.  I understand that if I change a title or transition, it will be necessary to render.  It's just annoying to have to render each time I open the project.
Also, I get occasional messages that there is a major problem and Adobe has to close.  Which it does.
    toutmeister

    John,
You are correct that the Rendering should "stick," no matter how many times you Close/Open the Project, or reboot the computer. Still, some users report issues with the Renders sticking.
For starters, the Renders are basically "proxy files," that PrE (or PrPro) uses for smoothest playback. These files are linked to in the Project file, the PREL in PrE, or the PRPROJ file, in PrPro. Sometimes, those links can be broken, and for various reasons. Usuallly, if the link is broken, the program will ask "Where is Render file _____.AVI?" though not always. In most of the cases of "missing" Render files, no dialog screen appears.
Some of the elements that can contribute to the missing Renders are:
External HDD's used for the Scratch Disks
Networked drives used for the Scratch Disks
    Some totally unknown problem
The first two are usually obvious, when the question, "where are your Scratch Disk files located?" but for the third, its a mystery, and fortunately only affects a few users. If there is no issue with #'s 1, or 2, then it's a case of # 3. Do #'s 1, or 2, apply in your case?
If it's any consolation, it seems that # 3 also happens with PrPro CS4 and CS5, and even Adobe does not have a cause, or fix. From following these issues, when # 3 hits, there seems to be nothing in common, between the Projects of those, who are "bitten." Each case seems different, and many of those users only have it with a single Project. The next half-dozen will stay Rendered. So far, it's been impossible to track this down, or even identify a Project, where it is likely to happen.
Sorry that I do not have more to offer, other than to say, either Re-render, or if it's not really necessary, let it go. I have many Projects, where playback is adequate, and I do not bother to Render, while I have others, especially with a lot of Keyframed animation, where I might Render a section dozens of times, while I adjust things.
For some more background on Rendering, see this ARTICLE.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Folders don't stay collapsed

In the Local Files panel, I cannot get folders to stay
collapsed. For instance: I have one folder for CSS files and
another for Includes in the root level of my site and both are
expanded. I will collapse CSS, but when I then collapse Includes,
the CSS expands again. It doesn't seem to happen with all folders.
Is this a bug or some kind of strange feature I don't understand or
is there a way to make this stop? It was happening in DW8 and I
hoped upgrading to CS4 would stop it but it hasn't. This is the Mac
    version.

**if you manually create a New site definition for this site,
    it will do the
same thing as the registry edit given below
In other words, make a NEW site definition for this site.
If you click duplicate instead of New, it will copy the
    expanded folder
info over to the site def afaik resulting in the same
    expanded folder
problem in the new site def, again afaik.
Manually clearing the expanded folder info for this site in
    the windows
    registry:
    1. Open regedit.
    2. Navigate to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 6\Sites\
*modify that path as needed for the version of dreamweaver
    you are using
Recent versions would be in Adobe path, not Macromedia
    3. Select the site number that you're having problems with
    (just look in
each one e.g. "-Site3" until you see the site name being
    mentioned).
    4. Careful here...
Locate the values that begin with "Local Expanded Dir" and
    end with a number
(there should be quite a few of them) and delete them.
    5. Then open the value "Local Expanded Dirs" and using a
    'Decimal' base,
change the value to 0 (zero).
    6. Quit regedit, and that should solve it...
And repeating- If you manually create a new site definition,
    it will get rid
    of the open folders.
Cause of the open folders- closing dw or changing sites with
    the folder left
expanded. Dw assumes you want it open next time you open this
    site.

Is there a way to have bookmark folders automatically collapsed in Safari when adding bookmarks?  This would be a huge convenience in navigating to the right folder w/o having to deal with an eye chart of a folder tree.

    Myself as well...
I think it is a tremendous problem. Im my case it is extremelly important to manage, organize and sort favorites.
I am new to Mac and safari... and I spent a lot of time researching a solution for that thinking it was me that couldnt find this option. I like to use safari because of the "gestures". This is great. But when it comes to favorites, safari is a nightmare!!!
Also, I use to like the option in Firefox that we can have the leftside bar with the favorites and navigate to the links in the right. In safari the links are open in the full page. And then we need to come back to the favorite everytime.
I would be glad if someone could come out with good solution or suggestions how to deal with it in fafari.
    Regards.

  • Why don't my apps automaticaly update? i keep trying to turn it on under settings but it will not stay on

why don't my apps automaticaly update? i keep trying to turn it on under settings but it will not stay on

Sounds like we have a similar problem.  Four days ago I was playing music through a wireless Bose speaker via bluetooth and everything was fine.  Then I was texting while listening and got 2 texts about the same time as I was typing one and my phone went black.  I pushed the home button and it worked, went into my texts and all were there.  However ever since then the time isn't right, so it can't keep time no matter what I do.  The bluetooth works only at times, the wifi keeps jumping on and off, sometimes my data won't work and the other day I couldn't even turn it off, so had to wait until it died.  The battery life display at that moment wasn't correct either.  Took to Verizon, they couldn't help.  Suggested a factory reset, which I did last night and still the same issues!  One day I couldn't even text my husband on his iPhone.  Just wouldn't work at all.  Did everything suggest and still not good.  Seems like after stalking these pages today a lot of people are having this problem in Dec/Jan and of course also I'm 3 weeks out of my 1 year warranty and so were many others, by days.  Very strange, and all on the 5C.  What did you do?  Is it working now?

  • Folder Tree Collapsing

I have been using Homesite for years and I've always kind of
lived with this problem. But since i started working on my desktop
it is starting to become very frustrating.
Basically the folder tree in Homesite 5.2 AND Homesite 5.5
collapses when i double click folders. The WHOLE TREE! The only way
i can navigate is if i single click the pluses. This happens on
both my laptop and my desktop.
I'm running Windows XP SP2. Am i the only one experiencing
    this?
    Steve Nelson

yeah, that's a recent bug, and fairly annoying.
    here's a technote on it.
HomeSite TechNote: Double-clicking in the Files tab moves
    focus to root node
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_19228
not much help, but I try to get into the habit of clicking
the + on the folder to open it, instead of double-clicking. it
still gets me every now and then though.

  • Import Not Finding All Files in Folder Tree (which files were missed?)

    I'm a new LR4.1 user running on a 15" Macbook Pro (OS X 10.7.4).
I exported my Aperture Library masters: mostly NEF files from Nikon D100, D200, D300, D800 cameras, and also JPG, TIF, and PSD files, etc.
    Aperture reported this export count:
51285 of 50582 (don't ask me why it exported more than it thought it had!).
After export, I used "find" (case-insensitive) in the output directory tree to count all NEF, TIF[F], PSD, PNG, JPG, GIF, AVI, and MOV files spit out by Aperture: I found 51277 such files (pretty close to the Aperture export count, although not exactly the same).
However when I point Lightroom to that folder tree with the exported Aperture masters, an IMPORT operation only reports 44279 photos for import (at lower left of expanded import dialog). About 7,000 less than Aperture exported! I have "Include Subfolders" checked and "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" unchecked in the LR import dialog. Also, I am using the "ADD" option in the import dialog.
How can I figure out which files Lightroom is missing? (I haven't actually imported anything yet due to the discrepancy.)
I can't see how the discrepancy could be so large. I think LR should support most of my Aperture-supported files.
I see LR doesn't support 32 bit files, but I don't see how I could have 7K files (maybe some, but I don't think 7k!) (I will check this later, am installing Xcode and ImageMagick to check the count of 32 bit deep files).
If anyone can offer ideas on how I can find the missed files, it would be appreciated.
(Maybe if I proceed with the import and there is some way to export a text file listing of library files, then I could process that file vs. the actual files in the directory tree to deduce the problem issues.)

    Colin

  • Local Folders Won't Stay Collapsed

For one website I'm managing out of many, the local folders
    will not
stay collapsed, i.e., the little box you click on to open and
    close the
folder directories. It's a minor annoyance but I can't seem
    to fix it.
I've looked at the actual folders on the hard drive to see if
    there's
anything odd in there and there does not appear to be. I've
    also
re-polled the directories for the site and that hasn't
    repaired this either.
When I open one of the main folders, all its sub folders
    open, too. When
I go, one by one, closing them, I get so far down the list
    and they all
pop open again. This only happens with this one folder and
    only with
    this one website.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks,

    You are on windows?
There are two ways to fix this.
One way- make a new site definition for each of the sites
    doing this.
Don't use "duplicate" because that will carry over the
    Expanded Directory
    information.
Other way- edit the windows Registry.
    background:
    http://groups.google.com/group/macromedia.dreamweaver/search?hl=en&group=mac
    romedia.dreamweaver&q=alan+registry+expanded
There's a registry setting in the site def info for what
    folders to show
expanded when a site is opened.
alternate probable fix-  make a new site definition from
    scratch.
probably way to prevent this from recurring- close the
    folders when changing
    sites or shutting dw down.
repost of old info- modify the folder location/registry key
    name as needed
for the version you are using
    Summary of the solution:
It's a registry thing. so do the usual backups !!!
    1. Open regedit.
    2. Navigate to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 6\Sites\
*****the above key path will be different depending on the
    version of dw you
are using (I've reposted this about every other month since
    dw 6 came
    out)
    3. Select the site number that you're having problems with
    (just look in
each one e.g. "-Site3" until you see the site name being
    mentioned).
    4. Careful here...
Locate the values that begin with "Local Expanded Dir" and
    end with a number
(there should be quite a few of 'em) and delete them.
    5. Then open the value "Local Expanded Dirs" and using a
    'Decimal' base,
change the value to 0 (zero).
    6. Quit regedit, and that should solve it...

  • Why don't my podcasts delete when I've listened to them.

Why don't my podcasts delete when I've listened to them. I have them set to do that on my phone and in iTunes but with the app they now stay there until I manually delete them.
I let them completely finish but still they stay on my phone presumably clogging up valuable space there and making it harder to find the unplayed ones.
Why oh why can't we have podcasts back in with our music on iTunes - now I can't listen to a podcast and then when it finishes let it just go onto play music - have to swap apps.  God, I hate Apple sometimes when they make something worse and tell you it is for you own good.  And yes, I know all big companies are the same....

    See:
In what bookmarks folder are the bookmarks located that you try to search?
You can click the "Show your bookmarks" button that is positioned next to the star on the location/address bar to get a drop-down list with the bookmarks.
Only bookmarks that were created by clicking the star once and that haven't been moved out of the Unsorted folder can't be reached directly.
You can also open the bookmarks sidebar via that drop-down list or use the Ctrl+B shortcut to have the sidebar where you can use its search bar to find a bookmark.
For easiest access you can move a bookmark the the Bookmarks Toolbar folder and have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible.

  • Automating Creation of Folder-Tree

Here is what I want to do: I want to automate the creation of a folder-tree for video projects from a template structure while adding the project name to the names of all the folders.
Anything that accomplishes this will suffice. I got hung up when I couldn't use a variable as the input for the "Find/Replace Text" action.
Anyone really nice and interested can go to the small website I've made and get the files to build this thing for me!
    http://www.mattwarren.tv/Site/Automator_Help.html
I imagine this is very simple, I hope so. Please advise.
    Thanks

What I had in mind was using the rename action on the copy of the template, although it won't go into subfolders. Since you haven't done anything yet, you might give my (tweaked) Copy Folder Structure action a try - it can be downloaded here. It can use variables, so an example workflow would be something like:
    1) Ask for Text [Question: Project Name?, Default Answer: Blank Project]
    2) Set Value of Variable [New Variable: Project Name]
    3) New Folder [Name: the Project Name variable, Where: wherever]
    4) Set Value of Variable [New Variable: Project Folder]
    5) Get Specified Finder Items [the folder containing the project template] - ignore input
    6) Copy Folder Structure [To: Project Folder, Add: the Project Name variable (and a separator, if desired) before each name]
    7) Reveal Finder Items
Note that the editing field that accepts variables will trim leading and trailing whitespace characters - this is probably why a plain text field is used in the rename action. You can use other characters as a separator, though - the action UI gets ugly when trying to add various options for space separators, but there is a setting in the action package if you have to have them.

  • How to make folders stay collapsed in list view in finder?

could someone please tell me if there is a way to make folders stay collapsed next time you open that particular folder (like they used to in tiger)
let me explain this in more detail
back in tiger, when you were in list mode, when you press right arrow on a folder it was expanding its contents, but the next time you open that folder those folders were collapsed, whereas in leopard it remembers the folders you expanded and they stay expanded forever (or until you collapse them all again manually)
i think its a lot more logical for them to stay collapsed next time you're opening that folder because if you have a lot of subfolders and they're all expanded when you open the folder next time its huge, the side scroller bar is tiny and its very difficult to find your stuff
if someone has a solution for this it would be greatly appreciated
    thank you very much

    thanks for your reply
actually CMD+A & CMD+left arrow only collapses the folders of the folder youre in, and not all the levels of subfolders that youve opened
if i could do CMD+A & CMD+left arrow to collapse all the levels of expanded subfolders that would be fine but imagine how much time it would take to locate everything that youve expanded and collapse it manually if you have about 10 levels of subfolders?
i find this incredibly frustrating, has anyone else got any suggestions?
