Why don't Gradients from InDesign copy into Illustrator

Hello, I was wondering if anyone call me why I can't copy a rectangle with a gradient from Indesign into Illustrator. The rectangle copies over, but it becomes colorless....what happened to my gradient? I can copy and paste solid color rectangle from Indesign to Illustrator, but why not a gradient?
Thanks a lot

The implementations are different?!

  • Pasting Illustrator native file from InDesign back into Illustrator

I created a logo for a client in Illustrator. The logo was placed into an InDesign file for a collateral piece. The printer made a few changes to my logo per the client's request, but did so directly in the InDesign document instead of the original Illustrator file. So, this is what I need to know:
Since the printer made the changes in the InDesign file instead of my original Illustrator document, I just want to make sure that it is fine to paste the logo back into Illustrator and use that as my logo file moving forward. I wasn't sure if that will cause any issues with the logo and if the proper way and better way would be to go back into my original Illustrator file and make those corrections myself in my native Illustrator file. I don't know if this even matters, but I just want to make sure I do this correctly. Thanks!

I think a lot depends on the nature of the logo. Use of transparency, effects and so on could really mess things up in a round trip.
If the logo was Placed in InDesign (rather than pasted in), I don't think there's much the printer can do to it directly - the changes were probably ID-specific, on top of the linked logo.
In any case, I would export the modified InDesign page to PDF, open the PDF in Illustrator and then try to use whatever I find there to modify my original logo art.

  • Copy and Paste gradients from Indesign to Illustrator???

    Hello,
for some reason when I copy and paste an object with a gradient from indesign to Illustrator, the object becomes colorless....What happened to the gradient? I can copy and paste a solid colored object from Indesign to illustrator (and for some reason then, when I copy and paste an object with a gradient from illustrator to Indesign, it acts like a "placed" image....what's that about????)
Can anyone tell me the best way to transfer a gradient swatch from Indesign to Illustrator, without having to regreate it? And why when I paste objects from Illustrator to Indesign, Indesig treats it as a "placed" image (meaning that once you double click on it, the hand pops up allowing you to move within the bounding box, like with an image)
    Thanks...
    Thank you very much

    Hi Jacob,
Thank you for a quick answer. Your suggestion is correct, but saving image to a file is an additional step.
Since I do this task "thousands a day", this is unacceptable
    Any other suggestion?

  • Why don't pictures from a slideshow made in iPhoto and then burned on to a DVD in iDVD not use the full screen?

Why don't pictures from a slideshow made in iPhoto and then burned on to a DVD in iDVD not use the full screen?

All I want to do is send my family the pictures for them to be able to see them on most dvds and use manually control.
If you want set top DVD player playback, I suggest you create a a series of slideshows IN iDVD that each contain a MAXIMUM of 99 images. Do not create the slideshow in iPhoto or iMovie.
Is there an easier way to do this, bypassing iDVD?
Some DVD players will play a disc containing jpeg images

  • I'm attempting to create a pdf from InDesign and the Illustrator image does not appear properly.

I'm attempting to create a pdf from InDesign and the Illustrator logo does not appear properly. The logo has a light blue color background with a black to white gradiant over it with a multiply designation set at 100%.  I flattened the logo in illustrator before importing into InDesign. When the pdf is created, the blue background of the logo drops out and the only thing showing is the graduated screen of black. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

    Thanks for your reply Peter,
I'm on Mac OSX (10.5.8) using Acrobat 7 Professional and Acrobat
Reader 9 to view the pdf. I created it by exporting. Attached is a
screen capture of the letterhead. Since I posted, I sent a test pdf to
my partner's computer eventhough it didn't look right on my system and
she said it looked fine to her. I've restarted my computer and tried
again and still get the same results.

  • Maintaining Text Formatting from Indesign CS4 to Illustrator CS4

    Hey folks,
I'm trying to transfer copy a section of text with bullets from InDesign CS4 back into Illustrator CS4.  When I copy it over to Illustrator, I lose my bullets.  I know I could do this in CS3 and maintain the bullets, but the approach I used in CS3 doesn't work for CS4.
Anyone know how to pull this off without me having to go into Illustrator and kluge together some bullets from scratch?
    Thanks!
    -Dusty.

    Thanks for the response Bob.
How do I convert my Indesign bullets to text, or are you saying I need to create them as Wingdings or somesuch and not as actual bullets?
The bullets are the main issue, but my formatted text isn't transferring either.  The text I paste from Indesign to Illustrator removes the formatting I had in Indesign (e.g., font-family, size, etc.)
    Thanks,
    -Dusty.

  • Paste from Indesign cs4 to Illustrator cs4?

Will the styles and effects applied to type and graphics in InDesign CS4 and pasted into Illustrator CS4 print correctly on the press? They appear correctly when pasted into Illustrator.

By printing correctly your main concern is will you have enough resolution. In Indesign you determine the resolution of these effects when printing by choosing Advanced and setting the transparency flattener
If you copy InDesign items with effects and paste this into Illustrator, the effects are turned into embedded graphics. If you copy and paste this into Photoshop at 300dpi and look at 100% view, there does appear to be some pixelization so whatever resolution these embed graphics are turned into I would say they are short of 300dpi (someone else please chime in if you know how to determine the exact resolution these are).
You can try exporting your InDesign Effects graphics to a press quality PDF, and then importing that into Illustrator.
The other issue may need to consider is if you have spot color inks for your job, and will your graphic be utilizing these spots if needed.
If you are just using drop shadow, I would recomend you copy and paste the type, and in Illustrator add a drop shadow, so you can have more control. FI you are using bevel and emboss, Illustrator does not have that so export you graphic to press quality PDF in that case.

  • Is there a way to: Export images from DICOM media into Illustrator?

I am trying to find a way to automatically import sets of images from DICOM media (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) into Illustrator. To be more specific I need to load up about 20 heart-slice images from DICOM CDs or any other type of archival systems into Illustrator.
These MRI DICOM clips show slices of the heart pulsating in systole (when the heart is the smallest ) and diastole (when the heart is largest) and phases in-between (systole and diastole are two time phases of the heart cycle, represented by time numbers), at various topographical locations (these would represented by slice numbers, or space numbers).  I would like to be able to input the number of the slices (space numbers) in systole and diastole (time numbers) and then with the push of a button to import the respective jpeg images into Illustrator.
This thread is related to a previous one “Is there a way to calculate the area of a shape?”
I would greatly appreciate the help.
    Avi

I played a little with live trace in CS5. Seems to do quite a good job if I had the right contrast between the blood (white stuff) and the myocardium (the dark circular wall surrounding the white round area). Picture one is the contrasted picture taken off a dicom medium (these media allow adjusting the contrast very well). Left ventricle is the smiley face on the right of image. The right ventricle is on the left, kind of D shaped. The second picture is the live trace image (with "make and expand" selection). I selected the image with the "direct selection tool (A)", then used the live trace with make and expand. The tracing can not be seen here, but it is very accurate.
The third image is the same MRI image as in picture one without contrast adjustment. Live trace did bad - fourth picture.

  • Export from Indesign CS3 to Illustrator CS3

I would like to know if thre's any kind of file format that allows me to pass a documente that i've created in Indesign CS3 to Illustrator. The PDF file makes that every word in the Indesign document, became a single text box on Illustrator CS3. All the other elements, when I open the PDF file that i've created in Indesign, are grouped and when i ungrouped them they charnge (sometimes color, or other things)
    Thanks

Illustrator is not a general purpose PDF editor. For starters it can't
    handle multiple color modes.
If you want your artwork in Illustrator you should create it there. If
you must get an ID file into AI format you're going to have some work to
    do depending upon the layout.

  • Why don't my pdf forms import into Word or Pages properly?

Why is it that when I create a form in Acrobat Pro, fill it out and save it as a pdf file, and then import or place the saved file in either a Word or Pages document that ONLY the form fields are visible and not the filled in data?  I've tried everything I know and it happens each time.  Thanks.

Have you actually tried to do it in a PC Version.  Usually it’s the other way round. Usually something can be done with little effort in PC Version, and not in Mac version. Or is PIA to do in the Mac version. Adobe takes as little effort as possibly with the Mac version of any of their products. They and many companies still have  the notion for anyone that wants to do serious work, you use a PC. Mac's are considered play toys.
If given the proper software with equal features a Mac is more than capable of handling any job a PC can.

  • Can I save from InDesign CS4 into a format thatcan be read by InDesign CS?

Irecently installed Creative Suite 4 on my computer at work. However it is far too advanced for my computer.
Is there any way I can save my InDesign file in a format that can be read by my old InDesign CS? I notice there is no other option when I go to 'save as', as I need to continue working on the document.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

Thanks for the help. It seems like a long process! And I've read a few posts that said the quality would be lowered substantially. My issue was really that I couldn't Pdf from the program because it is too advanced. But I think I may have solved that problem by installing an older version of Acrobat, and my computer seems to be able to work with that.

  • Why don't titles from iPhoto iOS transfer to Mac?

I was so excited when iPhoto for the iPad was released.  The ability to caption photos while on the road was something I'd been waiting for since the first iPad was released.  I just returned from a 3 week trip to Africa and had carefully titled each photo when I transferred it from the camera to the iPad.  When I got home I then copied the iPad photos to my iMac and found none of the titles were transferred.  Bit disappointed at this, as now I have to go thru about 2000 photos and retitle them.  At least I have the correct names for all the birds, etc. on the iPad, so have a reference, but still a big waste of time.

As you have discovered iPhoto for iOS and iPhoto on your Mac are not exactly the same. Each application has its own set of features.
As far as I know there is no way to sync the captions to your Mac from your iPad. You can suggest this feature by leaving feedback to Aple here

  • Why doesnt my library of songs copy into my ipod when updating new music?

I just updated and restored my ipod, but when copying my library into my ipod, although itunes shows each song successfully loading, only the first song of my library is present in my ipod when finished updating.

Sounds like a corrupt file somewhere on the ipod maybe. Try this...
Put the ipod into "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 THEN connect it to the PC and restore it again with the latest ipod updater 06-28-2006

  • Why don't events from my macMini calendar get pushed to iCloud?

I'm running Lion OS--haven't upgraded to Mountain Lion.  Events from my iPad appear in Cloud and on my mM calendars, but events from mM calendar don't upload.  Have checked iCloud calendars in my desktop program, and the account for iCloud appears to be in order in my calendar preferences.

Check the requirements for the apps that won't transfer. They may not work on the iPod.
