Why don't my videos (movies) display file names?

I have about 20 movies on my Lumia 928, but the file names don't display.  The movies play fine, but it would be nice to know the names of the movies without having to play them.

I can see how having to play the movie without knowing the file name would be a hassle.
I have researched this matter & I do believe this is just a part of the design of the phone.
I have even checked with HTC http://bit.ly/14DuBW3 to see if they know of any other way to do this, but nothing yet.

  • The Video app in OS7 update doesn't display file names.

The Video app in OS7 doesn't display file names under the image.
How can I identify my video files without having to open each file to access the file name.
Is there something I am missing or is this just an omission in the OS7 upgrade.
I am a music teacher and this lack of file names makes the app virtually useless for use in the classroom.

Agreed. This has been a problem with TV Shows in the Videos app since forever, but at least it used to put the name under Movies. Now instead fixing it for TV Shows in iOS 7 they've done the opposite and made Movies fail the same way as TV Shows always have!
Apparently it still lists the title for Home Videos, so the best work around for now is probably to reclassify all your Movies as Home Videos. Sigh.
Apple's Videos app development team seem to be unaware that iTunes can store and play movies and TV shows that don't come from the iTunes Store, videos that don't have covers, and that need to display the names and other info from iTunes for them. They also seem to not understand that the default grid view for videos is totally inadequate for users with scores or hundreds of movies and TV shows that they home share to their iPads and iPhones from iTunes. The Videos app needs a list view at least, as well as a grid view.
All they have to do is look at how the Apple TV handles the same files and meta-data from iTunes and provide something similar for the iPad and iPhone. Why after all these years they still don't get that I have no idea.

  • Why doesn't the video app display libraries with filters?

Why doesn't the video app display my shared video library like the music app does music? ie. no genre, tv show title. Or how about how displaying them like when i.m using the remote app on my apple tv? Either one of these two interfaces is better than loading four hundred thumbnails. The video app is useless when I want to choose a move from my shared library. If apple wants me to buy movies and tv shows from the iTunes store they should give me a better way to choose them from my library,

    Hi,
You can also set the iPhone number by adding the Apple ID to the iPhone.
This links the iPhone Number to the Apple ID.
Soon afterwards a pop up messages will appear on the Mac saying the iPhone is using it's Number and the Apple ID (if it has not appeared in five minuted restart Messages)
Accepting add the phone number to Messages as a "Send From" and Receive option.
On both the iPhone and the Mac version of Messages you can then chose the "Send From " ID or iPhone number.

  • Displaying File Name for Photo and Video Clips in Premiere Elements 10

I am using Premier Elements 10 on a Windows 7 Pro desktop computer to create
a project consisting of 128 jpg photo and mp4 video clips.  Before creating
the project I created a short file name for each clip describing its
content.  I've added menu tags at locations which separate the project into
discrete segments.  I've selected a disc menu which utilizes the menu tags I
created.  I previewed the project and I'm satisfied that the DVD disc I
intend to create will display everything I want except for one thing.  I
have spent several hours trying to find out how to have each displayed clip
include the file name (without extension) somewhere near the edge of each
window as it is opened in the finished production.  I sure would appreciate
some help with the steps needed to accomplish this.

    Welcome to the forum.
This can most easily be accomplished by adding a Title (maybe from a Lower-Thirds Title Template), above each Clip/Still Image.
I would create one such Title, and manually add the "File Name" in the location desired. Then, place that on a higher Video Track, above the Clip/Still. Then, just use the Duplicate Title function, to create a new Title, with the Text and Style, per the first - edit the Text for each, as required.
I know of no automated method to grab the Clip's/Still's File Name, and add that to a Title, as PrE does not support any scripting.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Why don't all iTunes movies have subtitles?

How can you tell if an iTunes download has subtitles?
Why don't all the downloads have subtitles?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It's not Apple's decision, they get the movies the way the studios prepare them.

  • Can i-tunes display fIle names in the columns

i-tunes has a vast list of columns to choose from right from album, artist, genre ,rating etc..
However, how can I display the original file name in a column?

As far as I have seen, using i-tunes properly to its fullest to maintain a neat library is not possible by simple users.
    Huh?
Add items to iTunes, name everything correctly in iTunes and let iTunes manage everything, including location and it is very, very easy.
Why use one application to play music and another application (Windows Explorer) to manage the file locatgions and filenames? That sounds more difficult.
Simple users will not understand that the album tag in a mp3 file is most of Why would they be wrong? Most RIPping software will add the info from the application.
If the user is lazy and does not want to add/verify the info, then that is their problem but why not use the tags, which were developed specifically to maintain information about that file?Simple users (and everyone else) should use the tags and put the correct info in those tags (using iTunes).
and not relative to the original file name
Who really cares what a filename (or even where a file is located) is if I can do what I want in iTunes? If I need to copy it somewhere, drag it directly from the iTunes window.
So, it is just an additional simple request from simple users
Send suggestions here -> iTunes feedbacl
Regardless, you are free to maintain your files as you wish and you can make it as simple or as difficult or anywhere in between, as you want.

  • Exported videos have weird file names FCP 7

I've been having this issue for a while and just now it bothered me enough to search for it and ask if anyone else has this specific problem.  When I export videos out of FCP 7, sometimes the exported file name ends with lots of numbers and letters instead of the name I specified.  Why does this happen?  How do I make it stop?

Why does this happen?  It happens to me sometimes when I have long filenames. It never seems to affect the clip, just the name.
How do I make it stop?  uh...  stop exporting?

  • .mov Forbidden File Name

I tried to upload a newly created Site Folder Podcast from iWeb to my Comcast Web site using Fetch and received a "Forbidden File Name" error message with a .mov file. I have successfully uploaded another Podcast to Comcast without a .mov file. I can't seem to find the correct extension to use or whether I can upload a quicktime movie to this site at all. Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Don

    Thanks,
I connected the file name with a _ and then was able to upload it to Comcast. It wouldn't play but I will work on that. I wondered if the change of file names caused a problem in the index or directory. Anyway, thanks for helping a novice HTMLer.

  • Display file name and remove error from log output

This script is working great from the GUI but when I call it from a cmd file from a job scheduler it throws out errors. I also want to display from is location the file name and it's byte count(ForEach($File in $Files)) so I can tell if any of the
files being combined where actually empty. It wants to search the current location from the sever not just-Locations parm..
    Error message in LOG file:
Get-ChildItem : Cannot find path 'F:\powershell\-SearchFor' because it does not
     exist.
It's trying to find file install.cmd from where script starts and all the -Locations(which is only the search parm)
    Function Search-Files{
    Param([String[]]$Locations, $SearchFor, $AppendTo)
    Begin
    If(-Not (Test-Path $AppendTo)){New-Item $AppendTo -ItemType File -Force}
    Process
    ForEach($Location in $Locations)
    $Files = Get-ChildItem -Path $Location -Filter $SearchFor -Recurse
    ForEach($File in $Files)
    Get-Content -Path $FIles.FullName | Out-File $AppendTo -Append
    End{}
    Search-Files -Locations "\\Server1\c$\Temp", "\\Server1\c$\Test1" -SearchFor "Install.cmd" -AppendTo "C:\Temp\Search.log"
    Thanks.

I search multiple shares to find a common file name then create a single output file. I will be doing this search and file creation
for 5-10 different file names. If there is a better way .. certainly open for suggestions. It's working but having issue with
the cmd file for every file and folder I check. It puts this error out for each run of the process.
      Error message in LOG file:
Get-ChildItem : Cannot find path 'F:\powershell\-SearchFor' because it does not exist.
     Thanks.
I tried your code with little changes and saved in Temp folder.
My CMD file has the below code
    PowerShell C:\Temp\Untitled1.ps1
    It worked.

  • Why are certain characters invalid in SharePoint file names/folders?

Hello. I know which characters are not accepted in file names, but someone asked me today why that was and I was stumped! Does anyone know?

They are usually invalid because the have a special meaning to the operating system or to URLs. For example the slash "/" is not allowed because it is used as a seperator in a URL.  (http://yourserver/yousite/somepage.htm).
Greater than (>) and less than (<) are not allowed as they are used to redirect output from a DOS command to a file ( DIR *.doc > listofwordfiles.txt )
So each reserved character has a special use somewhere... in DOS, in HTTP, in SharePoint, etc.

  • PSE v4 Display file name in Organiser

Is there any way of displaying the file name under the thumbnails in the organizer. I would prefer to see the file name in place of the date and time or caption.

you can see the name in addition to the date by going to Edit > Preferences > General and checking show File Name in Details. Be sure that your thumbnail size is large enough - adjust the slider to the right if necessary.

  • Displaying File name

When my clients meet with me, I use the iPod photo functionality to view their photos and make decisions. However, it would make things easier if I knew which photo they liked, amongst a group of similar-posed photos. Using the file name in Bridge makes things easy, but I can't get the iPod to do the same.
Is there a way to have the file name display over the photo that I'm viewing?
    Thanks!

  • Using Finder search not displaying file names

I'm running 10.6.4 and searching from the finder on an Xserve for a file name 00035.png but it's not showing in the results.
    Any ideas?

To clarify your question, when you perform the file search through finder, at the bottom of the window is there a place where it says "x items" and is the number shown there greater than zero?
I am having trouble understanding if your search is returning results but they aren't being displayed, or if you're searching for a file you know is on your drive, but it's not being identified.

  • Don't use bold font in file names

I use Bridge in detail view, and the image names are in bold font in that view. When you click on an image name to edit the name, it resizes, which is annoying: every time I click on a name, I click at the point where I want to insert or begin selecting text, and when the font goes from bold to normal, this point moves.

Thank you, Jim, for the fact that Bridge in CS3 did away with the bold font for file names.
