My grandson likes to play train mania in rag doll games on line and we are having a problem.

What problem?
If its a windows games then wine or bootcamps is required

Why don't standard XPath functions work in XSLT?

I'm having a lot of trouble trying to do some simple string processing in XSLT. What I would like to do is make selection using the standard xpath functions defined by the w3c. I'm using this as my cheat sheet:

I've tried the default XSLT parser that comes with Java, the latest distro of Xalan and the latest distro of Saxon. Nothing seems to recognize the fn namespace:
xmlns:fn="http://www.w3.org/2005/02/xpath-functions"
In particular, I'm trying to use the tokenize(string, regex) function. Only Xalan seems to support this at all, only recognizes {http://xml.apache.org/xalan}tokenize, and it is treating the regex as a literal.
This is very frustrating. Is it possible to get the standard Xpath functions to work for XSLT?

How did you get it to work with Saxon? I have saxon9he.jar on my classpath. When I try to transform this:

Why don't pages and keynote work since mountain lion was reinstalled?

I just had Mountain Lion reinstalled to fix a problem with reading DVD's. That problem was fixed but now I can't use Pages or Keynote. When I try to open them I get a message saying "files that need iwork are missing" and it says to use the iwork installer to reinstall iwork. So I downloaded and installed iwork 9.2, but pages, numbers and keynote still don't work. Help! I need my documents for work!

Plus when I tried downloading updates to pages and keynote from the Apple support site, I got a message saying they couldn't be installed because they were from an unidentified developer, not approved by Apple. Huh?

Why don't Yahoo embedded videos work

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

In Firefox 3.6.17,why don't the tab buttons work?

I've tried left and right click to gain access to new tab, but they do not work. I know they work in a later version, 4, but with version 4 I experience a lot of "freezing up".

I didn't have the plain Ask toolbar, as I have refused it whenever it was offered. However, I updated Foxit reader yesterday, and noticed it was included, but couldn't see any way to not install it with the upgrade. So when my New Tab button didn't work, and I read here that Ask was probably the problem, I went and found the Foxit Toolbar and got rid of it. That worked a treat, and my button works again. Why don't the add ons work when I install them? I can see them in the addon manager, but they don't work when I want to use them. Also very annoying when you have to register for one stinking question!!!

I installed a new dictionary. Something that worked fine when I installed it in the previous versions, works fine on my pc. But I have installed the dictionary 3 times now and it won't "take". I see it in the addon manager, but when I want to switch from us to dutch dictionary, it's just not there to be switched to. It's annoying and I need the dictionary

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.

Why Don't Getresponse Video Links Work?

Lately (it wasn't happening before) when I receive an email with a GetResponse link to a video & I click the link, I get the 404 monster. It only happens in Firefox. The links work in other browsers. Before I realized that, I contacted GetResponse for help. They told me to clear my cache and/or my cookies. I cleared my cache. I didn't want to get rid of all my cookies. So, I cleared a lot of them, but not all. The problem persists. How can I fix it? Thanks.

Why don't my sony headphones work properly?

i get audio and hear people on the other end just fine on skype, but they have trouble hearing me. i sound far away. not sure if my voice isn't translating to the built in audio receiver on the headphones or if it's being picked up by the receiver on the laptop. they are sony pc gaming headphones that i also use on playstation.

Why don't my iPhone headphones work with my Macbook pro?

I just got a 13 in Macbook Pro with a retina screen. My sound woks great from the internal speakers, but when I plug my iPhone headphones in and try to play music they just make a loud popping noise and then buzz. I have checked system preferences, the headphones are recognized and all the settings look correct. I have also tried resetting PRAM and SMC. Do I need to go to the Apple store? Is there a better fix?? Are these headphones just not compatible???

Are you sure? According to the Apple website it claims the headphone supports Apple iPhone headset with microphone.

Why don't my chapter marks work on the burned DVD?

I spent most of the weekend learning iMovie and creating a DVD of our Children's Holiday Concert with clips and 18 chapter marks. I used the iMovie link to create a iDVD project. In that project all of my chapter marks show up in the menues and the map. I loaded short movie clips in all of the dropzones just cuz I can. Looks great in iDVD. In preview I can navigate utilizing the menu buttons with no problem. So I decide to burn my first masterpiece, which is too large for a single layer DVD, but, no problem, I am well prepared and decide to burn a Dual Layer so I can stay in Best Performance, and put my DL super drive thru its paces for the first time. After 3 hours of rendering, I pull out my disc and take it to a set-top unit to make sure it looks good. It starts, it plays fine. I advance to the 2nd chapter and then the 3rd, no problem. But after getting into the 3rd chapter it appears that none of the chapter marks after chapter 3 are there. They show in the menu, but selecting any chapter after chapter 3 drops you into the middle of chapter 3 and no farther. What's goin' on? (Apologies to Marvin Gaye.)

I am not surpriced if your dvdwriter did "forget to do the second layer" ? I made a dvd with 3 small movies the other day, 1 movie, slideshow,and a blooper.
Maeby you should do the same! 18 chapters is alot, make them simpler by sending them to Q-time as new miniature films You then make nr.1 movie in imovie open idvd and create a new prjkt Use a simple theme then add Q-tmovies 1 by 1 to new buttons as extras (chapternames). the menucontrols on dvdplayer can be alittle confusing but no 1 movie starts imidiatly to and goes back to menu when ready wiewed....

I just installed OSx 10.7 and some of my fonts that I've been using for years are not working? Is this normal?

This isn't a problem with Lion. I've been having this problem for six months running snow leopard. I too, partitioned a 1.5 TB seagate drive into two volumes, 1TB for time machine and one for other stuff. The partition for other stuff has consistently been a joy to work with. The time machine partition has been one headache after another. Before I did anything with the drive, I wiped it and set it up for MacOS Journaled formatting.
It started about 3 months after I purchased it when the TM backup gave me an error that said that drive was "read only". After doing some standard troubleshooting, it got it going again, but inevitably, the errors kept coming. As I write, I'm unable to do anything with the TM partition. Disk Utility tells me it can't repair the disk. I can't mount it, read it, write to it. Nada. I've combed the web and there is no help available.
I've come to the conclusion that it is Time Machine's fault, not the hardware. Otherwise, why is the other partition working fine?

How old is your daughter?
Is it possible she has seen you type your password, and given herself admin rights? Or used your user_id when you stepped away from the computer?
If so, you will need to do one or more of:
a) change your password. This leaves you open to having her watch and take the new password. You can also "require password after nnn minutes of screensaver" in System Preferences > Security
b) add a new Admin with a new password. use it ONLY for Administration. Log in to it and demote your own Account to a non-Admin. Then go back to your own account, which cannot be used to add privileges. When you want to install something, you will type the Admin username and password.
c) have a deeply serious discussion about building TRUST and giving her increasing responsibilities toward becoming a free-standing responsible adult.
