Why don't some video podcasts transfer to iPod classic 6thG?

This phenomenon occurs for example in the Podcast called "Beautiful Places in HD" and some NASA Podcasts. A message says that the podcast can't be played on your iPod. (6G already too old?)
I found an unsatisfactory solution to that problem by using the convert funtion. The only problem with that is that a 5 min podcast takes 20 minutes to convert with iTunes. Then everything works fine except that the file is not a podcast anymore. If I use a non Apple tool which does the job faster my iPod becomes unstable and crashes once I upload the converted file.
Can anybody please offer some advice?

Just curious: So there are no iPods for these kind of Podcasts or are they meant to be just for iTunes?
Podcasts are not produced by Apple or the iTunes Store, the store simply lists Podcasts created by anyone who wishes to make Podcasts, you can make one if you wish. They are not necessarily produced with the iPod in mind, or even any MP3 player, even though they may be listed in the iTunes Store.
As you have found, conversion is not the answer. It's simply "the way things are" and I have the same issue myself with "Beautful Places in HD". Watch them on your PC and enjoy there.

  • Video wont transfer to iPod Classic

Why is this? It transfered before, then I wiped it and now it wont transfer, saying those videos aren't compatible with this version of iPod.

    Hi Peabot,
If you are having issues transfering videos to your iPod Classic, especially videos that have transferred successfully previously, you may want to take a look at the following article:

  • Some video podcasts not syncing, why?

i haven't been able to sync (or even watch in itunes) some video podcasts, specifically several episodes of the ricky gervais podcast, and all 3 of his "podfather" podcasts.
i can see them listed in my itunes library, but when i try to sync them to my ipod... nothing. they don't show up.
another issue is when i try to watch an episode of the podfather within itunes, i just get a still image of the chapter while the audio plays.
why can i not get these things to sync to my ipod???

Don't know about the iTunes playing issue. Perhaps there is a problem with the podcast.
As far as syncing them to the iPod, with the iPod connected to iTunes and selected in DEVICES, click on the tab for PODCASTS (in the main window where the tabs begin with SUMMARY). Make sure you're set to sync all.

  • Some video podcasts won't sync after using iPod to move music to new comput

    Hi -
I used my iPod to move my music (and podcasts) to a new computer (from a PC laptop to a Mac Pro). Now when I try to resync it (on either computer) some video podcasts are not synched from iTunes to the iPod. In some cases, all podcasts from the same subscription fail to sync; in other cases, some podcasts synch and others from the same subscription don't. All of the podcasts that fail to synch are video podcasts.

yeah i'm having the exact same problem so thought i'd up this rather than start a new thread. for me, one particular video subscription won't sync at all, and another is fine apart from three videos. particularly annoying as it took an absolute age to actually download them, and now they won't sync.
    anyone got any bright ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at icloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • Video Podcast issue with iPod Video

    Hi
I just upgraded from 60GB photo to 80GB video and am having problems playing back some video podcasts. It plays back some but not others. The ones that don't work have audio but the video is jerky, i.e. it looks as if it is playing a still slideshow. I have checked the problem videos in iTunes and they play fine in there.
    Regards, Simon Smith

If anyone knows of an answer to this problem, I'd be grateful as well... having the same thing happen with a couple of my video podcasts as well.
    Cheers,
    Darren

  • Why don't they have a 16gb 5g iPod touch?

    Why don't they have a 16gb 5g iPod touch?

the reason is that people are using more and more memory so because the pictures are higher in resolution they use more memory with the retina display so they need the extra memory to store more photos/applications/movies and of course videos that you record.

  • Why can't I put movies on my iPod Classic

I have the current generation of iPod classic and I want to put the Godfather trilogy that I have recently purchased from the itunes store onto the ipod, but everytime I do it tells me that I am not authorized to play them on this computer. I have deauthorized and reauthorized this computer with the account that I used to purchase the movies and still it will not let me put them on my classic. The ipod and itunes are completely up to date. Please help me if anyone can. thank you.

The files are fine because I can watch them on my computer without difficulties. I just don't understand why they wouldn't be compatible on the ipod classic if I purchased them from the iTunes Store with the same apple ID that is used across all my devices, which are all authorized to play my iTunes media. I mean the error that comes up is saying that my computer is not authorized to play them, even though I just watched one of them yesterday.
    So confusing...

  • Some video podcasts syncing - but not all

i am having trouble syncing certain cooking video podcasts to my 80GB video ipod.
when i look in the 'podcasts' section in itunes it says i have 37 podcasts episodes, but only 13 under 'device > my ipod'
when i click to sync all podcasts it only transfers some onto the ipod.
how can i get the other 24 onto my ipod??
    any suggestions would be appreciated.
i also tried manually dragging the podcasts episodes onto the ipod icon but they don't transfer over.

When I do a Get Info in iTunes on the HD podcasts I have, the +Video Dimensions+ are 1280x720. The even higher HD resolution is 1920x1080. I believe iPods can handle up to 640x480, although the screen is only 320x240 (on the non-touch video iPods).
In the iTunes Help, there's a Help entry called +Preparing a video to work with iPod+. It says
+1. In iTunes, select the video.+
+2. Choose Advanced > “Create iPod or iPhone Video.”+

  • Video Podcast Transfer Error

ipod is giving a message that video podcasts cannot be transferred because they are not in the proper format. If we totally erase and then re-subscribe, the podcasts before 1/7 seem to transfer properly. Ones after that date give wrong format error. Get info on both gives the same type name of MPEG-4.
    Any Ideas?
    Steve

I assume this is one programme title. It sounds as though the Podcast's producers have changed the format of their Podcasts. Yes, they may still be MPEG-4 but if the bit rate has been increased beyond the capability of your iPod, that's why they don't transfer.
    Check this page, http://support.apple.com/kb/SP26 which gives the video support information for the 5th gen (late 2006) iPod. It's a bit techy, (I have trouble following it all) but look at this, it refers to H.264 not MPEG-4, but hopefully you get the idea;
5th gen iPod early/late spec is *H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels,*
while the iPod Classic spec is *H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels.*
So the Podcast's producers could have created a version that plays on the iPod Classic but not on the 5th gen. If so, it's just one of those things that progress throws up.
One last thing (for the benefit of those who don't know), all Podcasts are produced independently of iTunes/Apple and the idea is that Podcasts are universal. So each Podcast programme may have been produced with non-iPod owners in mind. Yes, there really are such beings on the planet.

  • Why don't these videos display in Final Cut Pro X?

I am very new to using my iMac and to final cut pro. I can't figure out why these videos don't display video in the application. They play fine with audio in FCP and they are perfectly watchable through quicktime on the Mac. I have a screenshot, just ask if there is any other information you need to help me resolve the problem, thanks!!

Tom is correct it is a Sanyo camera whih shoots in MPEG4, I was actually unaware that fcp doesnt support this!
When i put the files into a project they just display exactly the same, the audio works but no visual to them!
I will try what yous have suggested when i get home from work this evening and hopefully the converted files will play nicely!
    Thank you both!
