Why don't the parental controls on the mac pro work?   I have the settings correct.

Why don't the parental controls work on the mac pro?

I am set as the administrator able to make changes and one day my daughter was set as the administrator.  I did not make the change.
How old is your daughter?
Is it possible she has seen you type your password, and given herself admin rights? Or used your user_id when you stepped away from the computer?
If so, you will need to do one or more of:
a) change your password. This leaves you open to having her watch and take the new password. You can also "require password after nnn minutes of screensaver" in System Preferences > Security
b) add a new Admin with a new password. use it ONLY for Administration. Log in to it and demote your own Account to a non-Admin. Then go back to your own account, which cannot be used to add privileges. When you want to install something, you will type the Admin username and password.
c) have a deeply serious discussion about building TRUST and giving her increasing responsibilities toward becoming a free-standing responsible adult.

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) on your account then the steps on this page will give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6170
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.

I'm not sure how to post a message. I hope this might interest someone. The situation; 3 floors,I am having trouble with an an Airport Extreme, 802.11n on the top floor and a Mac Pro 3.1 on the bottom floor. Not always but often it has trouble seeing the Airport and making a connection. I have an older Airport Express, would it help to install it? would it work best if it was installed in the same room? should it be installed half way in between? Get another Extreme? The Mac Book Pro on the middle floor can see 11 networks in the neighbourhood if that might be causing a problem or would if I installed the Express. Thank for your consideration.

Thanks for your time ... I appologize for the font and colour, I compossed the question in pages and failed to notice the font colour as grey ... there are a variety of computers of various ages so I think it is using a setting that allows both 5G and 2.4 ... the connection to the Airport is thru a cable modem and cable does run throuhout the house ... maybe those hard wires would be a place to look at ... do you think that putting the 'Express' on the second floor might help ... thanks again ...

  • Mac pro works fine, minus the display

Ok, so this is a bit of an odd question, I think. When I turn on my computer, I can hear it boot up only the display doesn't work. Blank screen. Cnce it's booted up, if I press the volume button, I can hear it changing volume, if I open itunes, I can hear it playing music, so I know the computer is working, just no picture.
I've ruled out the monitors, as they work fine with other computers. Here's the kicker. If I shut the computer off, open it up, jiggle the video card around a little, and turn it back on it works perfectly fine. Until I shut the computer off again, then we go through the same process. It's an early 2008 mac pro, and I have the 256 MB ati radeon, I think, video card that came with it.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Hi,
It sounds like your Graphics card isn't seated properly.
Remove all cables from Mac Pro, then remove side, earth yourself to avoid static, then remove the graphics card. You might want to clean out any fans on the Graphics card while it's out. Re-insert the graphics card, replace side panel, then reconnect your cables and try starting your system again.
If the same thing happens, it could be either the graphics card having an issue, cable of the monitor not properly inserted or possibly an issue on your logic board.
If re-seating the graphics card doesn't work, contact Apple Tech Support for further assistance.
    Hope this helps.

  • I used the parental controls and now safari won't appear on the children's desktop.

Can anybody help please?? I created a separate user account for my children so I could control their time on the computer as well as what websites they visit and now when they log in, Safari is not present on their dashboard nor can they access the internet.  Anybody have any ideas?

  • HT2900 what if the parental control is eabled for administrator, how to disable the parental control?

I tried to disable the parental control for the administrator, but after reboot, the parental control is still enabled for administrator.

    1st option
Try to log on on an another admin account on your Machine and change that.
    2nd option
if there is no other admin you have to create a new user as an admin.
Reboot. When the screen goes black hold "command- s" to enter in Single user mode
    type /sbin mount -uw /
    its /sbin(space)mount(space)-uw(space)/
    then enter
    type rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    its rm(space)/var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    enter
    Type Reboot
    enter
The system, will restart with like setting up a new machine (dont worry your user files are not deleted)
set up a new account. then after that check teh user accounts on system prefrences. remove managed and boot on to your pervious user.
After managing to make your Previous usre an admin delete the other extra user that you created
Try to enable firmware password so that you can only do that to your  machine. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
Turn on Filevault to protect your files. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7033

  • How do I download the new software for my macbook pro (I currently have the 10.5.8 software) when it doesn't come up in software updates in my system preferences?

I just bought a new iphone 5 and when i plugged my phone it to the computer it told me i needed the new itunes so i downloaded it and then the new itunes wouldn't open without the software 10.6.8 or later. I have the 10.5.8 software. How do I downlowd the new software. It doesn't come up on software updates either.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
An iPhone 5 needs iTunes 11, and iTunes 11 requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later, so upgrading to Snow Leopard will work.
First, check if your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 If it's supported, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then, you have to make a Time Machine backup and/or a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner onto an external disk. After that, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard, so insert the DVD and upgrade.
The DVD will install Mac OS X 10.6.3, so open  > Software Update and install 10.6.8. You may need to run Software Update again in order to install iTunes 11

  • I purchased the display version of my mac pro and it had the Pages app.  I just reset it to factory settings and the app is no longer on it.  Is there a way I can get it back for free?

I purchased the display version of my Macbook Pro at a navy exchange.  The woman working at the store did not know how to reset to factory so I took it home as was.  I have been using it for about a month and the laptop had Pages and Keynote on it already.  I just reset to factory settings and it now has neither.  Is there a way to get these back for free?  I think my computer purchase makes it eligible to have these apps for free but since I reset it they are gone.

Go to the App Store where you can purchase copies of the apps. You cannot get them for free. The ones installed belonged to the previous owner. You will need to purchase using your Apple ID.

  • Trying to reinstall CS6 Design Web Premium on a Mac Pro. I have the serial number. The download stalls every time at 484MB (out of 4.76GB). The ISP checked and all is OK there. What's up?

Is there some sort of throttle or counter on the Adobe server? Thanks.///REB

Jeff: I've checked the software and there's nothing there to prevent the download from completing. I've been using Safari, but I'm trying it now in Firefox. I'm downloading from http://trials2.adobe.com.///REB

  • Will the Radeon X1900 from a Mac Pro work in the DualDual Core G5 PowerMac?

Just wondering because I'm trying to figure out whether to get a refurbished PCI-X dual 2.7 GHz G5 or a PCI-e quad G5. The job I'm to use it for DEMANDS using an ATI GPU because that's the only GPU that I can fine-tune manually in Mac OS X using OEM drivers.

That's correct. The software we use demands that the CPU be of an RISC architecture, and x86 as you know is CISC and so will not work. Meanwhile, I have an old ADC-based 23" Cinema Display and have gotten my hands on a re-manufactured dual 2.7 GHz G5 with an X850. My desk is transparent so I have the 30" display mounted on an arm anchored to the wall to float an inch above the surface of the desk while I have my 23" cinema display just below the transparent desk so that's how I've got my dual screen setup arranged. It works like a charm and is unique and effective.

  • I am thinking of updating to the newest version for my Mac Laptop. I have the 10.6.8 should I update to the Mountain Lion OS X? If I update will I loose all my data, like documents, music, pictures?

Wondering if I should update my Mac Notebook which is a 10.6.8 versions to the newest Mountain Lion version? What are the positive and negatives about the new version? Also if I update will I loose all the date on my computer like documents, music, pictures etc..?

First check the Compatibility of your Mac...
    Upgrade to Mountain Lion
Then... Before attempting any Major Upgrade... get yourself an External Hard Drive... and create a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like
    SuperDuper  http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    or CCC  http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade,
    you will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)
Also, Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...

  • E2000 Parental control tab missing - Mac OSX Lion

I am trying to use the Parental Control feature. I can't use Cisco Connect as there currently isn't an update for this router for Mac OSX Lion
The firmware version in the support site hasn't been updated for ages, and I am running the latest (v 1.0.04)
The Parental control tab, that is supposed to appear in the web browser interface isn't there. It's supposed to be, but doesn't show up.
Any ideas why or what the work around might be?
    Thanks

If you want to use the Parental Control Feature then it will be in the name of Access Restriction instead of Parental Control…
Cisco Connect 1.4 comes with the latest Linksys routers.  It is compatible with Mac OS X Lion.  This has resolved compatibility issues encountered in the past.
Here is the link for the Cisco Connect Software Installation:

please help me ,i forgot the synchronising password for my mac pro lion backup disk

If the backup volume is encrypted, and you forgot the password, then you'll have to erase the volume and start a new backup. There's no way to recover the password.

  • What happened to the parental controls page

I have not had occasion to mess with any parental controls recently until today.  I had the page bookmarked that allowed me to control what email addresses my minor child could send and receive email to/from and that page is gone.  I cannot for the life of me find anywhere on this site where to adjust parental control settings.  I now have another minor child for whom we've created a sub account for and I have no way of controlling what email is allowed in.  Why I try to go to Manage Sub Accounts I get an error message that that page no longer exists.  Argh!  I've been fooling with this site and the Verizon Yahoo site for over an hour.  Where is the parental controls page that actually lets me set the parameters?!

Thank you. That does the trick.
As a suggestion, you might want to put something in the tool tip for that star, saying that double click opens controls.

  • HT1904 if i purchased my device with my money is it legal for someone else to put on the parental controls?

if i purchased my device with my money is it legal for someone else to put on the parental controls?

That is an interesting question.  If you are at the "age of majority", then why would you allow someone else to put restrictions on your device..  If it is a condition of your employer to use the device on their network services, then you allow it to use the device for their system.  If you are under the age of majority, and your parents are requiring it, sounds like the parents care.
