Why dont keyboard shortcuts work in 5.5

Hi all,
I have been searching for an answer to this for hours now with no luck.
Ive started using adobe 5.5 and am finding that assigning keyboard shortcuts to buttons are not working! It is really frustrating me. Im assigning shortcut keys such as "tab", "alt+6" and "ctrl+s" to buttons and they work beautifully in version 4, but I have little success with 5.5.
Is there something Im doing wrong, or is this a bug.
Thanks.

You're probably NOT doing anything greatly wrong.  Trying to use keyboard shortcuts with Captivate content is always a mixed bag.
I just tested the three shortcut combinations you mentioned above on my box using both Cp4 and Cp5.5 projects in IE9.
Both worked with Tab but also tended to select the playback bar.
Cp4 worked with Alt + 6 but Cp 5.5 did not.
Both spawned a Save Webpage dialog when Ctrl + s was hit.
So although Cp4 came out ahead on one of the keystrokes, they were equal on the others.
Cp 4 and Cp 5x only share minimal common code nowadays.  With the total rewrite of the app, we gained some things and lost some things.
If you feel strongly about this issue, I encourage you to log a bug report about it.  The more people that indicate they think an issue should be fixed, the more likely it will be.
However, having said that, we're unlikely to get full compatibility with keystrokes no matter what we do because in most cases whether they work or not is more up to what the browser (or other output format) happens to allow.

  • Why do keyboard shortcuts for menu items created in System Preferences appear in Firefox menus but not work?

Given that Firefox does not obey the System Preferences custom keyboard shortcuts, why does it still display those shortcuts in the menus, thereby incorrectly telling users that they will work?
This issue was raised 6 months ago, but the only posted answer did not explain why the menus reflect the shortcuts that Firefox doesn't obey.

Outlines are discussed in a series of articles beginning with Creating an Outline in Chapter 5 of the Pages '09 User Guide. A similar set of articles, beginning with Creating Lists follows immediately.
Reading through the articles, I don't see any mention of a keyboard shortcut or menu item related to moving an item up or down in the list. A search through Pages '09's menus was also unproductive.
Apparently this 'essential function' is unsupported in Pages.
Feature requests should be made through Provide Pages Feedback, found in the Application menu (in Pages, the 'Pages' menu), where they'll go to and be read by Apple. Here you're posting to Pages users, who can help you use existing features, but have no direct influence on missing ones.
The Pages '09 User Guide, a searchable pdf document, is available for download via the Help menu in Pages.

  • Why won't the iphone 5 keyboard shortcuts work anymore?

Had my iphone 5 a couple of months and my keyboard shortcuts use to work, but now they won't.  Is there a fix for this?

@ Ralph. No. connections are fine. As indicated my iPad works seamlessly. And I've tried two 5's! Both do the same. I HATE not having the capacity to 'Listen Live' to public radio!

  • Keyboard Shortcuts work in Preview, but not in .SWF (Captivate 5)

I'm working on a project where keyboard shortcuts are the *main* way users will advance the screen.  This is because keyboard shortcuts are the main way to
accomplish tasks in the software I am teaching.
Most of my keyboard shortcuts use an invisble clickbox on the screen.  These worked fine when I Previewed the slides.  Great!  I create about 5,000 of them (okay, I created about 30).  I published the project to .SWF.  Uh-oh.  Keyboard shortcuts DO NOT WORK, you hear a Windows beep instead.  Lesson remains stuck with no way to advance.
Here is some info that might help based on what I was able to find in previous questions about shortcuts:
-- It happens in both IE and Firefox
-- No, there are not multiple clickboxes using the same keyboard shortcut on the same slide
Thanks for any help -- I'm up against a deadline and teaching the correct keyboard shortcuts for various actions is absolutely critical to my lesson!

    Hi there
Certain keyboard shortcuts are dicey in Captivate when delivering via SWF. This is because the web browser itself presents the SWF. Because of this, the browser has control and intercepts shortcuts designed for its own use.
You may choose to call that "Bad behavior" on the part of the browser, but it's normal behavior if you think about it.
This calls into question why Adobe would offer such shortcuts and allow them to be assigned in the first place if they fail. And the answer to that is to advise that these shortcuts *DO* actually work in EXE output.
As with most things in life you find there will always be trade offs. You gain something in one place only by sacrificing something elsewhere.
You could complain to Adobe about it, but it's darned hard for them to influence browser behavior.

  • GNOME3 - Keyboard shortcuts working inconsistently

    Hello again,
I've searched around for an answer to this question, but haven't had much success. In GNOME2, I had a few keyboard shortcuts mapped to the Windows key (Mod4). In GNOME3, the developers seem to have mapped a number of shortcuts to the windows key, but for whatever reason, the shortcuts don't seem to work consistently. Of note, I have the following keyboard shortcuts setup:
    Lock Screen: Mod4+L
    Home Folder: Mod4+E
    Run: Mod4+R (Works)
    Run Terminal: Mod4+Enter (Works)
For whatever reason, the Lock Screen and Home Folder shortcuts do not work. Any insights as to why this may be? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
P.S. Apologies for the multiple posts: I thought that the forums would be more appreciative of me asking several specific questions instead of requesting assistance for a laundry list of problems.

I've been using Gnome 3 in both Arch and Fedora 15 beta, and I've had the exact same problem with keyboard shortcuts as you describe. I have managed to successfully open a terminal using Super (Mod4) + T. But for some weird reason, that is the only keyboard shortcut that works with the Super Key. In the custom shortcuts menu, I've tried to map application shortcuts to the Super key, but none of them work. However, when I use a different combination -- like Ctrl + Alt + Letter -- the shortcuts work. This makes me think that something is going on with the Super key in Gnome 3. That key does play a special function as it calls up the Activities menu, so maybe the Super key is restricted as to how it can be mapped to other shortcuts? I still don't understand why I can map a Super key shortcut to open a terminal, but not for a custom command.
Like you, I've been searching the internet to find out what's going on with the Gnome 3 shortcuts, but I haven't been able to find anything. I would love to hear from others to see if anyone has figured out how to create custom shortcuts with the Super key. If it is not possible to create custom shortcuts with the Super key, does anyone know why that's the case?

  • Why have keyboard shortcuts quit functioning - quit, copy, paste, new, hide

I all of a sudden have lost the use of most all of my keyboard shortcuts that I am sooooooooo accustomed to. The apple key shortcuts mostly will not work - occassionally some work, but the problem occurs in the finder as well as applications like work xL photoshop firefox etc etc. I have logged out and logged in as a different user but the problem persists - driving me crazy - when i go to keyboard shortcuts in system preferences it shows no shortcuts under application shortcuts/all applications. Have i done something drastically wrong? Can the shortcuts be restored? Help Please email me directly at gerard @ tetonartgallery.com if you care.

I changed the key repeat rate to slow and turned off the delay until repeat and the problem seems to be fixed. As i thought about what had changed when the problem began one thing was changing those keyboard preferences. I think i will be able to live with what i have -- THNAK YOU my typing skills suck, but the keyboard appears to be respojnding --- will i eventually have to replace this board or may it keep on KEEPING on? THANK YOU THANK YOU _ it is great to have people out there to bounce problems off of.

  • Why is Keyboard not working?

Why is my MacBook keyboard not working?

try reinstalling whatever operating system you have. worked for me. i have a 2010 model. i hope this has helped you.

  • None of the keyboard shortcuts works

A few minutes ago I posted a quesion about my inability to use Command+Q to quit an application. This might be confusing. All of the keyboard shortcuts I normally use are not working, including the commands to copy, cut and paste. The quit shortcut is only one of dozens on the fritz. j

Logging into the temp account may not fix the problem if you incur it again. Something is fundamentally wrong in your main user account that would cause the problem. When you create the new user account and log into it, you are preventing a number of third-party add ons from loading:
    1. Login Items from the Accounts preferences
    2. Input managers
    3. Contextual Menu Items
    4. Preference Panes
    5. User installed fonts
    6. Preference files
    7. User-based cache files
    8. User-based log files
Items 2-8 are all located in the /Home/Library/ folder. When you create a new user account none of these items that may contain third-party components will be included in the new account. Any one or more of these could cause the problem.
Simply creating the new account should in no way actually fix anything. Rather it's a troubleshooting technique that helps isolate possible causes of a problem. That your system is now working properly is more likely a fluke.

  • Quick Step Keyboard Shortcuts Work With Number Keys Above Keyboard, But Not On Keypad

Had this same issue with Outlook 2013:
"I assigned hotkeys to several Quick Steps, and used the suggested convention of Ctrl + Shift +1, Ctrl + Shift + 2... through 5.
When I use the number keys above my QWERTY keys, all is well.
When I use the keys on my keypad, Outlook does funny things like collapsing all the day's e-mails into the "Today" heading."
Correct. The keypad values do different things and you can't substitute the keys - you need to use the row numbers with the QAT."
Ergonomically, the number keys on the numpad are far superior to the ones above the keyboard for processing email quickly and easily (and without carpel tunnel!). I'm right-handed so it's much more natural for me to hold down the same two control keys (alt-shift)
with my left hand and select the action (a different key every time) I want with my right. Can do it opposite, but requires more conscious thought and is more subject to error (which defeats the whole purpose when I have to go fish a mis-acted on email out
    of the wrong folder).
Was wondering if this issue had been corrected in 2013 (or there was an easy workaround that doesn't involve writing and maintaining a separate macro or installing/maintaining a separate program like AutoHotKeys). The built-in functionality is 99% what I need,
but the ergonomic issue may make it unusable for me.

    Hi,
I can confirm in Outlook 2013 the shortcut keys can only use the number keys above "QWERTY..." and we can't use the number keys on the keypad. This comes by design and is not changeable currently.

  • Why dont liquify filter works on the trail of Photoshop cc. Do photoshop Cc have it

I download cc but filter does not work

    Good day!
"does not work" is not enough information for proper trouble-shooting, what exactly does or does not happen?
Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

  • My keyboard shortcuts have quit working - HELP!

    All,
Can anyone tell me WHY my keyboard shortcuts—new window, close window—have quit working.
It's a pain in the tuckus to have to open a window with a menu.
It happened suddenly and would appreciate a fix if anyone has the same problem.
    Thanks!

I change my Spotlight shortcut to Ctrl + Space and have no problems. I've never had a problem with use the Space Bar to get the Hand tool.
Try restoring your preferences first before you take the trouble to reinstall. Here's how:

  • "Next" and "previous" keyboard shortcuts don't work

Why won't these keyboard shortcuts work for me? THey're indicated in the drop-down "View" menu as an alternative way of navigating backwards and forwards, but *nothing happens* when I try to use them.
    Why not?

I have nearly the same problem, except that "previous" does work for me, but not next. I checked in the Keyboard preference pane and there do not appear to be any conflicting commands there.

  • Keyboard shortcut does not work on first slide in Web Browser

I'm using a workbook to learn Captivate.
I added a keyboard shortcut, the Enter key, to buttons on the first and second slides.
When I preview the project in Captivate, the shortcuts all work.
When I preview the project in a Web Browser (specifically Firefox 3.6.16), the shortcut does not work on the first slide, but does work on subsequent slides.
Any ideas why this would happen?

    Welcome to our community
The issue is typically a matter of focus. Particularly in Firefox. In IE, when the page loads and is presented, the Flash object (your Captivate movie) is given focus. So the keyboard shortcuts work. But that doesn't happen in Firefox. In Firefox, you must first click somewhere on the Flash object to give it focus. From there forward, shortcuts work because the Flash object is now listening for them.
In every class I facilitate I demonstrated this and advise that it's a good idea to have a button on the first slide. This serves two purposes.
It forces the user to click to proceed
It keeps the first slide paused until the user is ready
Yeah, before someone comes along and says: (in an annoyingly nasal tone) Mr. Man, you KNOW there is an option in Captivate to keep it paused at the start... I'm well aware that Captivate offers this option without adding a button, but I prefer it for the reasons above.
