Why Dreamweaver CC delete Databases, Bindings and Server Behaviors (PHP/MySQL)

I installed Dreamweaver CC on my laptop and notice that Dreamweaver CC has no Binding, Server Behaviors and Database.
A lot of my project get done by these feature (Binding, Server Behaviors and Database.), mostly for the website mock up for my clients.
Why Dreamweaver these features? We need these feature back...
For the liquid layout I don't like it, I prefer to use bootstrap then Dreamweaver feature.
Dreamweaver CC just change Dreamweaver into CSS editor comparing to previous version.

I'm not a spokesperson for Adobe.  I just use the products.
DW CC extensions use .zxp files.  Formerly, CS extensions used .mxp files.  It's imperative that you use the correct Extension Manager version for your version of  DW.
CS5 = CS5 extension manager
CS5.5 = CS5.5 extension manager
CS6 = CS6 extension manager
CC = CC extension manager and so on...

There have been exhaustive discussions in this forum about the deprecated server-behaviors and Adobe's decision to remove them from CC -- presumably to discourage people from using them anymore. If you want to continue using SBs, do so at your own risk since Adobe no longer officially supports or endorses them.  And if you can't get the extension from DMZone above to load in CC, your fallback is to use CS6.

  • Where to go next with Dreamweaver and server-side (php/mysql) applications?

This question is mainly directed at David Powers but  I appreciate any input from anyone with the same concern or question.
I've been using DW since the change from Macromedia and have developed a number of applications using built in server behaviors and sb extensions from ADDT, WebAssist, etc. I've learned to customize these behaviors to fit my needs always keeping within the "canned" code. In this way I've "learned" php.
I own most of David's books and in fact, it was because of these that I have any idea about what I'm doing and went in this direction in my "developer" career (building php/mysql applications using Dreamweaver.)
With the decision to remove server behaviors (and the other "developer" panels) from DW and with the deprecation of the mysql extension from the php landscape, I'm wondering where to go next? I fully understand this has to happen.
    I'm aware of some alternatives:
Zend or some other framework - to me, this seems extremely complex
Keep several versions of DW installed
Stick to Joomla/WordPress/Drupal - let others who know what they're doing build the architecture
Actually LEARN php - wish I had time; too much work to do (I know how illogical that sounds but it's a very real situation)
I know I'm going to have to switch out all that deprecated code or better yet, rebuild the many applications which used the DW (and other) server behaviors. I'm just not sure which way to turn.

Since I wrote this post I concluded that there is no substitute for understanding and have started my re-education by delving further into the issue with updated PHP/MySQL books and tutorials so I can prepare for a Dreamweaver without this functionality.
Yes, I too have concluded that is the way to go as well. There really is no substitute for learning as much as you can. Whilst the DW Server Behaviours were very convenient they have not kept pace, Adobe prefering to spent their time on less important updates in my opinion. The Server Behaviours are what makes Dreamweaver the tool of choice  for database integration for those who lack the knowledge. I feel the Adobe team will regret not coming up with an alternative. Anything that detracts from making the program what it is is a step in the wrong direction and for sure this is a big step in the wrong direction.

I have mainly used DW server behaviors in my development projects that's why I am curious about what others are doing to make the change. I'm surprised there haven't been more posts; perhaps I'm the last one to be taking action about this, or maybe no one is too worried about it yet.
I think a lot have changed their working practice but many more are burying their heads in the sand. sql_ support is a way off from being completely dropped yet.
    rjjacob wrote:
Anyway, your assessment of how terrible the server behaviors are is correct. I'm finding that true after barely breaking the binding on a few books about the greater subject and looking into mysqli and PDO.
Yes, because I relied heavily on them I did not know how bad they were until I forced myself to look further afield. What you can do in a couple of lines of code the DW Server Behaviors produced quadruple or more to achieve the same.
    rjjacob wrote:
    But they sure were convenient!
Yes, I agree. Maybe some extention developer will come up with a set of new improved behaviours. I tell you if they do they will make a shed load of money.

  • Missing database, binding and server behavior w/CW 2014.1, extension mnger won't work.

Following instructions for downloading Adobe Extension Manger and looking for the .zxp or .xzp files doesn't work with my CW 2014.1 CC. There are NO files with those extensions anywhere in my program folders. This is frustrating being a new customer. I PAID lynda.com for turtorials, after I PAID Adobe for software and now I'm at a standstill. Apparently Adobe doesn't want to talk to their end-users. Has anyone else had this problem? I desperately need to get php and Mysql working for one of my paying customers.

I was pointed in the direction of using PHP and MySQL for database development
PHP and MySQL are correct, but the connection between them should be through mysqli or PDO, not the mysql extension used by Dreamweaver server behaviors.
There are many good tools for creating database powered websites, but it can be done with just Dreamweaver and the tools included with the free XAMPP software package. That package contains the Apache web server, MySQL, PHP and PHPmyAdmin (which is a database interface).
Get the book PHP Solutions by Powers. It will get you going.

How can I set "delete from hub and server" differently for each account?
    I have 3 emails (2 shared, 1 personal).
the personal is a 'hotmail' account which has device set to 'sync email', 'push', and 'Use SSL'.
it will only sync one way (from desktop to device).
I cannot set the global setting on the device to "delete from Hub and server" without affecting all accounts.
I do not want to have to confirm delete on every item.
previous to the 10.3 update this was not an issue.
am i missing something? or is this another step backwards?

The only other way would be to set it to prompt every time you get an email. Yeah, I know that defeats the purpose.. I guess in this aspect it is a step back

  • OT: Bindings panel, Databases, and Server behaviors in Dreamweaver CC

    Hi all,
There was a query on the Dreamweaver Facebook page about using server behaviors in Dreamweaver going forward. The product team replied to the post, and I am posting it on this forum for the benefit of users not on our Facebook page.
In Dreamweaver cc release server behaviors will be available as an extension. Once you install the extension server behaviors feature will be enabled and extensions dependent on it will work as before. In the CC release, you can find the extension at the location

    Thanks,
    Preran

I am sorry to say so, but your disappointing blog post just tells us two things:
You claim that you are listening to your users, but you have just proved you don’t. Despite the high volume of disappointment expressed through the comments to previous posts of this blog, through comments in Dreamweaver Help or through the Community Forum, you show no change of direction, nor any will to cater for the disrupted workflow that Dreamweaver CC is introducing. Instead, you are just producing blog posts that desperately try to prove us that you are “streamlining” and “modernizing” Dreamweaver. An extension that brings back half of the features is not a strong-enough signal that you have taken into account our needs. Extensions written by third parties which you claim are alternatives but are not resemble more leg-pulling than anything else. Will you reduce Dreamweaver’s price for the removal of killer features that were sold with the software before?
You do not seem to know how Dreamweaver users use the software or at least, to be fair, how a large number of users do. I thought the aim of software makers was to sell a tool that aids its clients in, and brings value to, their work.
As an extension writer, I can tell that the vast majority of my users are either DIY guys or professionals working on their own. Not big companies with teams of developers. The majority of those never have been Dreamweaver users and will never be, having different needs and ways of working.
As responses to your “streamlining” and “modernization” of Dreamweaver have shown, for a large number of users, the strength of Dreamweaver lies in its extensibility, of which server behaviors are the most advanced feature. I am not talking about the code they write, which we all agree has to be updated (and we have been waiting this for a number of releases, now…), I am talking about their very mechanism, which allow us to write our code and use Dreamweaver to speed up our job by helping us to write it again, faster, without errors, visually.
No other tool offers this possibility. Without server behaviors and database support, Dreamweaver is simply not worth its price…
Obviously, you are the ones with the real figures and only you can tell if it is a strategic decision or a big mistake. I was a bit surprised though by the number of voices that rose after the Dreamweaver CC release, so I tend to think that Mr. Adobe would not be that pleased by the loss of a good number of faithful clients. But then at least, be honest enough to tell us if you intend to drop a part of long-term users, and stop serving us your commercial soup…
    Now, what will happen?
You still refuse to listen to the numerous voices who have called against your decision to remove useful features to us, and in this case, we will act accordingly: we are big enough, we do not need your blatant propaganda even by the product manager himself to decide whether Dreamweaver CC will still be worth its high price into our workflow, if the new features will outweigh the loss of server behaviors and database support. If not, of course, we will not upgrade just because you are marketing the supposedly wonderful new features, and we will turn to other tools, with features that will help us improve our workflow in other ways. And goodbye Adobe, we do not trust you anymore… It is as simple as that.
You show us you really are listening to your customers and you bring back updated server behaviors and database support. In this case, we will know that we can trust Adobe again, that you do listen to us, and will applaud with both hands.
And, more important to you, we will have a valid reason to upgrade and we will. Come on guys, our productivity is at stake, but your jobs may be in the line too…

  • Dreamweaver CC 2014 and Server Behaviors

Where are the new server behaviors for PHP/MySQL in the new CC 2014 edition?

    Hi All,
Just to reiterate we do have Extension Manager CC standalone to install extensions for Dreamweaver CC 2014, that update is already available via Creative Cloud Application, please update Extension Manager if you need to support CC 2014 release products.
For Server Behavior just wanted to let you guys know that we have it available on the AddOns page from where you can install it for Dw CC 2014 also.Do use the AddOns workflow and let us know about the user experience to help make it better and easier. In case if you are looking for how to install the Server behavior from AddOns page, please follow below mentioned steps :
    1. Download/Install the latest Adobe Creative Cloud Application from creative.adobe.com and make sure to turn on File Sync.
    2. Launch Dreamweaver.
    3. Goto Windows>>Browse AddOns.
    4. Search for Server behavior in the AddOns page.
    5. Now quit Dreamweaver.
    6. After quitting Dreamweaver Click the install Button against the Extension in the AddOns page.
    7. Wait for some time for a notification to be displayed in the Creative Cloud Application. After successful installation of the extension you should receive a notification the Creative Cloud app saying "You installed the AddOn Server Behavior & Database"
Let us know if that does not work for you.
    Thanks

  • Issue with Setting Up Test Server for PHP/MySQL to work

I've got a few newbie issues
which I hope someone can help with!
I'm trying to get Security Assist to work, so I've put MYSQL and workbench on my computer to get it going. I haven't created a test server in PHP, because I'm wondering if it will affect my already running website ftp? Will it take down my company website if I create a test server with the same ftp as my website?
So, I created a model in workbench (table) and I've tried to connect mysql to dreamweaver. I keep getting an error when I try to connect!
Despite the error saying an error has occurred..I have something which looks like a plus (+) sitting in my database area on DW, but it says there's no tables there! And in mysql there is a table!
I'm a bit bloody lost to tell you the truth. Just changing the password on mysql to get going was horrendous.
Anybody have a solution to get me going, so that my tables are sitting nicely in my dW and can be connected to my SA (Security Assist).
    Ugh!

The first question: on what platform? Windows - Mac?
I only succeeded in setting up a testing server on my Mac
with PHP and MySQL after reading a book of David Powers. On Leopard
I belief there still are problems connecting PHP to MySQL.

  • Regarding database migration and server hardware.

    Hi Experts,
We have Oracel 10g database running on HP-UX 11i V1 on RP7400 server i.e. PARISC architecture. We are planning to do database migration from Oracle to MaxDB. But we are also planning to upgrade the server i.e. new server which is having ITANIUM architecture and also planning to upgrade the HP-UX operating system version from HP-UX 11i V1 to HP-UX 11i V3.

One may need to use table splitting (dowtime reduction), one may need special load arguments for R3load, SMIGR_CREATE_DDL etc. - so it's not as easy as just exporting and importing

  • Does anyone know why my phone deletes my contacts and replaces them with another devices after i restore it to the origninal contacts?

i recently upgraded iPhones and so did my mum so when i was setting them up i linked the icloud between the two and since then my phone will only keep her contacts even if i restore my phone back to my old phones settings. when i have restored to my old phones settings it will hold the contacts i use to have for about 1-2mins and after that it will delete all of them and then replace with the numbers on my mums phone.. is there any way around this because i am getting frustrated that i cant access my old contacts. i have deleted the previous back ups to my old phone but has made no difference :/

Your problem is that just after restoring your device, it than syncs with icloud, finds that icloud has you mum's data and so deletes everything on your device and downloads her data.  The issue here is that you and your mum are using the same icloud account - you should each have your own account
Read this link, it covers how to recover from lost contacts from an icloud backup.  It's not quite what you need, but the discussion about how to stop syncing just after performing a restore is important to you.  Good luck.

  • Dreamweaver CC and PHP / MySql

So what has happened to the database connections, bindings and server behaviors options. There are no DATA options in the insert bar.
I hope this is not going away.
    Max OSX 10.8

Another whinge at Adobe's knee-jerk decision to remove Server Behaviors, Bindings, Databases & Components from Dreamweaver CC!
I have been in the creative advertising world since the early eighties and developing websites since the early nineties. I have seen many changes in technologies over that time and started using Dreamweaver when it was first born. I have been a fan of Adobe products for along time and recall one of the first Adobe products I bought was Illustrator'88 (take a guess when that was released!).
A few weeks ago I decided to 'upgrade' from CS4 to Creative Cloud. I looked long and hard at the pros and cons but did not come across the issue of the removed behavious panels. I have had a hard time recently (without going into any detail) and decided to commit once again to working freelance in an area of the business that I love - dynamic communication. This means combining databases, html front-end (and associated technologies) and my marketing skills. The core technology therefore is Dreamweeaver combining front-end design with back-end structure. Now I have lost that vital link.
At the same time as upgrading to CC I gained two very large pieces of work, one was to redesign and re-engineer an existing and quite complex intranet site that I developed and few years ago and another is to create a whole new database driven site. Now I am stuck as to where to go.
I have read alot about this issue and my understanding is that PHP have decided to remove the Mysql extension from PHP and replace it with the more secure mysqli or PDO_MySQL extensions. Fair enough, technologies move on, I can understand that. What I can't understand is Adobe's reluctance to keep their change in product from it's 'everyday' users like myself. We, the users, don't always keep up-to-date with these changes in technlogy. We have our heads firmly fixed on doing our jobs and earning an honest crust. We rely on the likes of Adobe to keep up-to-date with these changes and make the tools available for us to use without any interuption to our workflow.
Why therefore have Adobe not put a notice on the existing Server Behaviors, Bindings, Databases & Components stating that they recommend not to use these functions as they are being replaced, rather than simply removing them and leaving us with nothing. It's as if we had a rusty but usable shovel, Adobe comes along and takes takes the head of the shovel away and says we will give you something better to replace it with sometime in the future, but for now we just have to stab at the ground.
Is there an alternative way of working built into Dreamweaver CC or indeed any other Adobe CC product to help me achieve what I (and many others) want?
Is Adobe building in a new mysqli or PDO_MySQL functionality that will be similar to the Server Behaviors, Bindings, Databases & Components panels that we are used to?
When will this new functionality be available as an update?
Extension "Deprecated Panel Support v.1.0.0" doesn't work for me and I don't know why. I cannot connect to any of my existing MySQL databases and therefore further development or changes to existing sites comes to an abrupt halt.
All we want are some simple, clear answers, otherwise we will have to make some clear and simple commercial decisions as our livelyhood depends on it. Here's hoping...
    Regards
    Neil

  • Problems with PHP and MySQLi server behaviors

    Hi,
I'm a graphic and Web-designer with some knowledge of PHP and MySQL and I've been using Dreaweaver since very early ages in creating dynamic web projects and use the Bindings and Server behaviors quite a lot. But recently PHP has deprecated MySQL_connect since 2012 and it seems Dreamweaver isnt suporting the alternative MYSQLi server behaviors which will be the future of accessing Databases in MySQL along side with other options. Without this feature Dreamweaver is not of any use to us web-designers, since there are many Free great Editing software out there... Is the Dreamweaver team solving this problem? Or are you really planning on dropping this software? I've been using CS5.5 for a while and was planning on updating but this is a key feature and without it its not worth the investment.
    Kind regards.

There are no plans that I know of to introduce a new set of mysqli server behaviours into DW from Adobe. They have left that to  thrid party developers to bring out extensions which replace them.
What the server behaviours could do was very limiting anyway so I suspect any replacement mysqli behaviours would also be very limiting. I personally jumped into thre code and started to write my own mysqli connection files and query strings by watching a few simple tutorials on youtube - it isnt that difficult.
Look for 'php academy' on youtube - they have about 9 simple to follow tutorials on getting started with mysqli.

  • "New Server Behavior ... " problems

I am trying to apply the "New Server Behavior ..." feature of
Dreamweaver 8 found under the Add Server Behavior tab. If I use a
variable and apply a Display As option set to Recordset Menu or
anything like that, I get an error message, "Error with 'Recordset
Menu' control: unable to locate required 'RecordsetMenu' control".
Trying to set the Display As option to Connection Table Menu gives
a similar, "Error with 'Connection table menu' control: unable to
    locate required 'Connection menu' control".
Here is how you reproduce the problem.
Create a site using the MySQL-PHP server model.
Create a dynamic-PHP page using New from menu or Ctrl-N and
save it. Create a MySQL database connection.
Create a recordset from the Bindings tab. Use all the fields
    from some table.
Under the Server Behaviors tab, Click the + sign to add "New
Server Behavior ..." Choose Document Type "PHP MySQL", give the
Server Behavior a name and click OK.
Click the + button to add a Code Block and click OK to insert
    it into the window.
In the "Code Block:" windows replace the code block with
"<?php echo ?>" Add a space after echo and select "Insert
Parameter in Code Block". This should leave you with "<?php echo
@@Param1@@?>". Disregard the Insert Code options.
Click "Next...". The "Generate Behavior Dialog Box" comes up,
select the TextField in the dialog box window. An arrow suggesting
a menu should appear. Select "Recordset Field Menu" or any of the
Recordset options. Choosing a "Dynamic Text Field" may not generate
an error. Connection Table Menu or any of the Connection options
also generates an error. Try those too. Click OK to close the
Dialog Box. Save your php page.
The name you gave your Server Behavior after "Choose Document
Type ..." will now appear in the Server Behavior menu when you
click + in the Server Behaviors tab. With your php page having
focus, select your Server Behavior from the + menu and you should
    get an error,
"Error with '<My Server Behavior Type>' control: unable
to locate required '<control type>' control"
Click OK, and you should see a menu come up for your behavior
    with a blank menu.
