WHY DVD isn't playable ?

Hi
I received a video burned on a DVD-R . I don't know which machine or software was used. This DVD plays well in my super drive DVD player and in the DVD player on a portable PC ACER (Windows), but it is recognized on no DVD player in the living room.
I don't have the preliminary draft , thus, I cannot burn a new DVD..
How can I do a new copy, playable on most other DVD players ?

iDVD can't
May be You can copy Your DVD disk to Your Mac hard disk and open Apple
Disk Util tool. Set it to make a Video DVD disk and burn a new DVD.
This is mere speculation. I never done it that way.
I am lucky enough to have two DVD-burners (one in my Mac and one ext.
ForMac burner + a program "Roxio Thoast™" and this can read one drive
while copy on the other one. IT CAN'T COPY copy-protected DVDs !

If you want to create a video DVD you'll need iDVD. If you Mac didn't come with iDVD preinstalled then you'll have to purchase it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com. Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

Can anyone explain why DVD Player is SOOOO BAD?

OS 10.3.9, G5 dual 2 or iBook G4 1 ghz. DVD Player (and I use the term loosely) 4.0.
So what gives with this product? Why keep trying to make an Apple-branded DVD player if THEY CAN'T DO IT?
Why the frustration? Because I'm doing a 50-disk "make good" for a client. The duplicator I used burnt discs that, somehow, play on their (windows-based) computers, but don't play in standalone DVD players. So I've burnt 50 make-up discs, and I'm checking them, one by one, to keep this guy happy. And they play fine...in my DVD player. But, put them into EITHER of my Macs, and DVD "Player" doesn't work. Well, I take that back...the first two discs I tried worked in the iBook, then nada after that. But I want to be SURE that these discs play in both standalone machines and laptops, and gollygoshdarnit (substitute your fave words here), my wonderful Mac with it's WONNERFUL DVD Player software just won't help me with that process.
I've tried all combinations of preference settings; tossed prefs on both machines; cleared out the "DVD Player Bookmarks" folders in Application Support; and cursed in the general direction of Cuppertino. Nothing worked (though the cursing made me feel better...).
These discs were authored in DVDSP 3.0, burnt on my G5 with my new Pioneer -111 DVD/CD drive. Could there be something about 16x media that's incompatible with DVD Player 4.0? And why is it that Apple constantly leaves us "late adopters" out to dry by not updating products for their previous operating system (go ahead, search for DVD Player 4.0 problems...you'll fine many. Now search for updates...you'll find none.) in their rush to cram out the "latest, greatest" OS?
Thank you for letting me vent. Now...anyone have any practical explanation about why DVD Player don't work?

A2DP will be included with firmware update 3.0 to be released this summer, but will apply to the iPhone 3G only. This will not be supported with the first generation iPhone.

(1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.

You have to download and RUN the iPhoto library upgrade - then launch iPhoto - If you had iPhoto '08 or earlier (version 7.x.x) - the upgrade is installed in the utilities folder of your Applications folder

Why Albania isn't listed on the iTunes online store?

I have been using mac products for many years and recently I moved from Greece to Albania for work purposes.
When I heard that Albania isn't listed in the iTunes store i couldn't believe it until i saw it my self. Why isn't it listed.. big telecomunication companies like AMC (Cosmote) and Vodafone are selling apple products (iPhones, iPads, iPods etc.) and apple hast even listed Albania in.. isn't this insane.. how are people even suppose to buy songs, apps or anything???
It is a huge problem guys.. please give me an answer if there is a way for me to purchase songs or apps withought being listed in itunes and still use iTunes to download them I would be more than grateful!!!!!

There is another authorised Apple store in Albania at "Casa Italia" Building, close to the main roundabout in Tirana.
It is very stressful not being listed as a country, when authorized shops exists. This lets me think that Apple is aware that their product are being sold in Abania and that people are buing them, but still isn't taking steps to change this. I mean, even such discussion is taking place in their Apple Support Communities web page (in english) ... c'mon, someone should do something about it and i trully don't think it takes that long to make the change.
I believe people feel discriminated by this, although I do belive that this isn't Apple's intention. Choosing another country doesn't feel right.
Anyway, hoping for better days!!!

Why FIOS isn't available?

I live in Lowell, Massachusetts. I have listened and watched ads on TV about FIOS for nearly 12 years now. Every year I have called up Verizon and asked about getting FIOS and each year I get the same answer, "FIOS isn't available in your area yet." Yet, there are neighboring towns and cities that already have it. I ask, when will it be available and I get the same answer, "go to our web site and fill out the page to get a notice for when it will be available." Almost 12 years now and still nothing. FIOS still isn't available in my area, zip code 01854. Just getting the run around from Verizon again. One reason why I dropped them for my telephone and internet services.

This is a peer-to-peer support forum where volunteer users try to help others in the same boat. I'm sure you're already aware that the only thing you can do is maintain contact with Verizon Communications and hope for the best. Frankly I don't think they're in expansion mode just now with respect to capital expenditure for FiOS infrastructure. Recent press reports indicate that the emphasis now is on expanding in the wireless area rather than the "bricks and mortar" business of FiOS networks.

If nothing else seems to work, perhaps a novel approach is in order. Have you checked with anyone in nearby Salem MA? It's only about 20 miles away, and there used to be a bunch over there with strange powers who could get just about anything done (for a price).

Sorry, but there's nothing you can do. No one here knows why Apple has not yet been able to open an iTunes Store in Morocco, nor when (or indeed if) they will ever be able to do so. Since you are not allowed to use the iTunes Store of another country, you will not be able to buy apps or other content until such time as Apple is able to open an iTunes Store in your country (or you move to a country where there is an iTunes Store).

FCP5 Compression question...DVD isn't clear on my 51 inch TV

One thing I do not like about version 5 is using compressor. It takes a lot more time to compress then it did in v4.5. A 1 1/2 hour movie takes 24 hours compared to 12 hours before. And why does it need to be compressed? If a dvd holds 120min...and the movie is less then that, why compress and lose the information?
Anyways I'm using compresser and setting it to mpeg2 compression with a setting of 5 and 7 and using 2 bypass. Its not that clear compared to a store bought movie dvd. Plays very clear on a tube tv but not that clear on my sony HD 51 tv. I need it to be clear because I'm a wedding videographer and show my DVD's on this TV for presentation. Is there something else I can do? Is there hardware that I can buy that will make it very clear on a larger screen tv?

The DVD-Video specification requires a particular formatting scheme so that [hopefully] ALL players will be able to read and playback the encoded data. Its not just a matter of program length. The current SD DVD-Video spec calls for a specially encoded MPEG-2 files which are then compiled in VOB file format. Unfortunately, MPEG-2 IS a heavily compressed format - something we all have to live with.

You shouldn't really expect it to be. Hollywood and other commercially released productions are shot with very high end gear with excellent lighting and then edited on high end systems and finally encoded with high end hardware and pressed to disc instead of being 'burned'. Keep your expectations realistic.

Is your 51" HD TV trying to uprez the image? If so, it WILL probably look like crap - all soft and fuzzy with fun little artifacts dansing around the edges of things. Either use an standard TV or an HD model that will allow an SD signal to be displayed without uprezzing ... or sit further back from the 51" HD set so you don't see all the artifacts.
As for the encoding quality - most users have found using a CBR setting in Compressor 2 to provide a better quality output.

... which when added to a Pivot Table I'd expect a YEAR subtotal to equal the December Ending MONTH value. Instead, it's summing all of the months in the year. Any clues as to why this might not be performing as expected?

here. Is there any chance that you could provide a sample workbook with non-sensitive data that can be used to look into the unexpected behaviour in your scenario?

Ripped DVD's Not Playable on a PS3

Hello again everyone. I posted earlier about ripping all of my DVD collection into AVI files. I have ran the following script and it works very well:

However, for some reason I cannot play the ripped AVI on my PS3. It just says "unsupported data". Are there any edits I can make to that script to encode the files properly for PS3?

You'll have to figure out what codecs the ps3 natively supports. As said before: 'avi' is merely a container that can contain almost anything: divx 3/4/5/6... xvid... h.264(?) etc. and these are only the video codecs I can come up with. You also need to worry about audio codecs (mp3, ac3, mp2 etc.) and then worry about all the different settings those audio and video codecs have.
If you want to rip for your ps3, than you'll have to document some specific options you might need to use or avoid. But by using google, I think you'll find a whole lot of documentation. It is enough for your rip to be completely/partially unreadable by your ps3 if 1 setting is wrong...
I find it a whole lot easier to set up a server that is able to transcode everything on the fly.
