Why Elements 11 Alias in folder?

I sucessfully (apparently) downloaded Elements 11 and Elements Premier from a purchased disc. BUT, in my apllications folder, within the Elements 11 folder, I have an Elements 11 ALIAS (which does not open) and a folder named 'Support Files' in which is Elements Editor which does open.
What do you think happened to the apllication for Elements 11??
In the Premier 11 applications folder, there is a Premier ALIAS. Then in the 'Support Folder'  there is a Premier application (which opens) and another Premier Alias.
So, what are these Alias' about??
Is Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor the name of the application for Adobe Photoshop Elements 11??
And are the support folders the right location for these apllications?? My other Adobe applications are within the folder of the same name.
Thanks for your help.

The alias at top level is the welcome screen. The actual editor is in the support files folder, for one of those mysterious adobe reasons.

why is it a shared folder in the music app and why do i need internet to listen to it?

    Try in order:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod since you may have corruption that is now in your backup
Based on the info you provided it appears you did the restore from backup and sitll have problems.  Thus, I would just restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 organizer program/folder missing from  installation

I downloaded the upgrade to Photoshop Elements 12 from the internet in November 2013 and the organizer part of the program is totally missing as well as the Photoshop Elements Organizer.exe file..  With previous versions (9 &10) Elements Organizer has its own folder containing files containing the Photoshop Elements Organizer.exe file. but this whole folder is not present with this version 12 upgrade.   I have downloaded the file and uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail.  Can you advise how I obtain this part of the program.

I have downloaded the Adobe Support Advisor ( apparently been withdrawn according to the Adobe website) and it located no errors.
Again I say that the Elements Organizer program is missing as there is no Elements Organizer 12 sub-folder within the Adobe folder located in C drive where the program is installed (Photoshop
Elements 10 has an Elements Organizer 10 sub-folder and the organizer works fine).
Also on clicking the Photoshop desktop icon (loaded by the program installation) message says "cannot find Photoshop Elements 12.exe.  However the program can be loaded from the PhotoshopElementsEditor 12.exe file, but the organizer button at the bottom right of the editor screen when clicked gives message " loading elements organizer workspace" and after a minute or so this message disappears and nothing happens.
The download is an upgrade version so I don't whether this makes any difference.

my daughters Mac and she doesn't remember which osX version she had.
can't seem to get past that flashing folder with a ? in it

A flashing question mark at boot means no start up drive can be found. Solutions vary based on what OS is installed.
Try the command and r keys held down at restart to see if it enters "recovery" mode. Use the Disk Utility to find out more about the drive.

  • Why might an entire project folder disappear from my CS3 program?

Why might an entire project folder completely disappear from my CS3 program?  Being a rookie at this, any advice is appreciated.

You can buy ready made external RAIDs.
I am sorry, but I fail to see how this will help the OP with USB 2.0 externals.
Now, for "the next time," it will work, but when one has a USB external, they have a single HDD USB 2.0 external. This is of no use with that equipment. That was my point.
I recommend one with an eSATA connection.
    Or use internals.
Again, a "next time" solution, albeit a good one. I do not argue that different thing could, and should, be done. I just fail to see how your suggestions would help the OP with the "here and now."
Let's use the tried and true "automobile analoghy," that we are all quick to interject. The OP asks, "I had an accident with my MB S-500, and the grille was caved in. How do I fix it?" The answer, "next time, do not have the accident," does not address the issue. It is, of course, good advice, but does not help with the current problem. The "accident" has already happened. Yes, avoiding the next one is good advice, but is irrevelent in the "here and now."
Sorry, but I would not give you points on this one, were it my post.

  • Alias Application Folder

In my Applications Folder I have an alias Applications Folder.  When I deleted the alias folder it wiped out all my applications on my hard drive.
Does anyone know how I can delete the alias folder without deleting all my Applications?
    I am using OSX 10.6.8.

    meridan wrote:
In my HD there is the main Applications Folder.  In that folder is another folder which shows an arrow on the folder but the name is blank.  When I go into the alias folder all my applications are there as well as the main Applications Folder. So I have 2 sets of applications.   It also tells me it is an alias when I ask for information on the folder.
As far as I understand your situation, the applications are not doubled, the alias just links to your main applications folder.
    meridan wrote:
I deleted the alias folder by putting it in the trash.  When I did that all my applications (including the alias folder applications) and all the files normally attached to the applications ended up in the trash.
Yes, but after trying to move the apps and files back, shouldn't the alias be still in the trash and shouldn't you be able to then empty the trash? As you say, it came back automatically, which is weird. Do you have anything installed that might have to do with aliases, etc?
Is it just the alias or other things as well (slow system, lag, other problems)?
If the alias is just a thing sitting there, everything works fine and it doesn't bother you, then just ignore the alias and use your computer as usual (maybe until someone finds a quick solution).
I agree that completely wiping and reinstalling is a pain in the *** and that (if the alias is actually not a problem and everything else works fine) you should not do it.
    Is there any other problems???
However, if other problems are present as well and you entire system is messy and runs slow and laggy, you could actually consider doing a full reinstall including wipe:
If you don't have many important settings and you don't care about your setup, you could manually save your important things onto an external volume, and then do a clean reinstall. You would then have to do a completely new setup, etc. Since you copied your things to some kind of external volume, you can then reimport iTunes, iPhoto, etc. and put your other folders back on your new system. (Note that data in the libraries such as notes in certain applications and much more will be also gone unless you back those up as well. If you have applications that you don't want to download or install from discs again, you should save the installer on your external HD instead of the application as installed applications need permissions, are dependent on files placed by the installer, etc...)
Applications that don't require installations (drag+drop) could either be just copied onto the external HD or their disk images could be saved instead (this doesn't make much of a difference). Apps from the App Store can be easily redownloaded.
Others that you installed from CDs/DVDs can just be reinstalled the same way you installed them before.

  • Why are my alias files 5.6mb?

When I make aliases they are coming out at 5.6mb in size, why?  They used to be much smaller. (Lion on an IMac)

I was going to be a smart @#$ and write "because you're just lucky" but then for fun I made an alias on my computer and it was 450k. Then I used another HD and made an alias of a 121k file and it was 2.6MB. I see that a folder of aliases made by FCPx are each 89k as they should be. I have no clue why...but I'm about to get on the tubes and see if I can find out who else has found this grizzly horror previously.
After some research the answer I read is most commonly that it's because of the icons being stored but I just made an alias of a 155k file and the alias is 2.6MB. Something is wrong there...here....the world is broken...starvation, war and disease I understand...but now even aliases are broken in Mac OS???  This must be a UN plot....

you can search for this problem using google to see if any solutions work for you.  but i found this post by urami (who is very knowledgeable):
It has nothing to do with font name itself. Also, by the way, font being a system component, can't be easily renamed in NotePad. You will need dedicated font editing tool like Macromedia's Fontographer. Anyway, Flash simply does not support some fonts and font's families. Unlike Other tools you brought up, Flash is vector based and not catered to handle all kind of fonts, but specific groups only. In fact if you deal with more applications, you will realize that it's a common issue. CorelDraw supports literally any font, half of which won't never shop up in Photoshop, then these that show up in photoshop, half of it won't show up in Flash, and so on. You just can't use all the fonts and it won't matter whatever you change their names. It's all about the font and its outlines and the way it is made.  --  Best Regards  Urami  --  "Never play Leap-Frog with a Unicorn."   If you want to mail me - DO NOT LAUGH AT MY ADDRESS

  • Why is the Lightroom preview folder so big, even after purging the 1:1 previews?

1:1 or full-size previews take up a large amount of HD space, often many 10's of GB's. This is why building them on demand is an alternative to building them up front, and why you have options for auto or manually purging them. That said, it may not always be possible to delete 1:1 previews - more later.
Standard-sized previews are based on the pixel size option you chose in Catalog Settings. You have 4 choices: 1024, 1440, 1680 and 2048. If all you want is standard-sized then choose a size equal to or greater than your screen size. Lr also builds smaller versions at the same time. These are used for the thumbnail, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 zoom levels. Adobe call this the "preview pyramid".
1:1 previews will not be deleted unless your chosen standard-sized preview is less than half the size of the full-sized preview. For example, you have images with pixel dimensions of 3072 by 2048 pixels (6MP camera such as Canon 10D) and have selected 1680 pixels for standard-sized previews. Since a 1680 pixel preview is more than half the size of the original the full-sized preview will be kept, even after using the purge 1:1 preview command. Had you chosen 1440 pixel for standard-sized previews then the full-sized would have been purged (i.e. 3072/2=1536, which is greater than 1440). Now take the example of a larger camera, say a 8MP camera such as the Canon 1DMKII with an image size of 3504 by 2336 pixels. With the standard-sized set at 1680 pixels the full-size will again be purged (i.e. 3504/2=1752 pixels, which is greater than 1680 pixels).
Another thing worth mentioning - Lightroom will usually delay purging previews for deleted images until after the application has been closed and reopened, even then it might take a few minutes to clear the purged previews. The idea here is to ensure the previews don't get deleted whilst there's still a chance that they may be needed (e.g. you removed images by mistake then use Undo command to reinstate them).
Hopefully above explains why Lightroom doesn't behave as you expect. If it makes your head spin, think how much mine spun when writing it.

The chance of an answer is inversely proportional to the length of the posting. ;)
You do not indicate what your preview setting was while you accumulated a 12Gb preview folder. Nor do you indicate how many images are in your catalog.
Given your screen size of 1280 (laptp?) I would set the preview size to 1440 since this is still far less than half of your D3 images.
Cropping - I'll safely guess - has no effect on your preview size choices.
I confess that preview sizing and purging is confusing. I avoid the confusion by shouting "more disk, mama".

  • Why are messages in Sent Folder marked as Junk?

I have a new Intel iMac with Safari 2.0.3. A few days ago I noticed that all the messages in the Sent Folder are marked as Junk with the brown color band at the top and the message saying "You have marked this messages as Junk." I have no rules in place to cause this and my incoming mail is filtered using the Advanced feature. I have no idea why mail I have composed and sent would be marked at all, much less as junk. Any help is solving this would be appreciated. Also, I noticed a lot of postings about mail in Sent Folders being lost. I wonder if that mail was marked as Junk first, like mine, and then moved into the Trash based on a rule to throw junk mail away. I have no rules to move junk mail to the trash.

I'm also having the same issue. I think there's a correlation between whether or not a message is auto-saved as a Draft and whether or not it shows up as UNREAD in your Sent folder. For instance, if I write a quick message (~10 seconds) and send, then is has not had time to be auto-saved as a Draft and does not show up as UNREAD in the Sent folder. However, if I leave a new message open long enough (~2 minutes or more) then it has auto-saved in the Drafts folder, where it has received a UNREAD marking. Then, when I send the item, it is moved to the Sent folder, but retains the UNREAD marking.
Does anyone see this correlation on their system?

  • RoboHelp 9 Publish to SharePoint - why not just change output folder?

    Hello,
For publishing my help to SharePoint, I was not able to get the video publishing to SharePoint to play, but tried to follow what written instructions I could find. and they didn't work. However, I was able to publish directly to SharePoint by simply changing the "Output folder and Start page" on the "General"  WebHelp single source layout settings page. I just made the files go directly to the SharePoint document library - into an empty folder I placed there.  Here is the path I used: \\sharepoint\HR\HCMHRResources\OnlineHelp\HRSpace\index.htm    It seems to work fine. Is there any reason I should not do it this way?

Oops... my bad My Bad MY BAD!
That will teach me to reply without fully comprehending the thread. I was thinking you were referring to typing the UNC address into the publish destination field. But after looking at it again it seems you are talking about where WebHelp is generated.
Actually you DO NOT want to work that way. Here's why.
If you are placing content on a shared medium, odds are that users are accessing it from there, no? The first steps in the generation process involve removing the content from the folder in preparation for receiving a new round of content. And as you may imagine, if users are looking at the information and suddenly it's deleted, it's going to cause issues.
You always want to generate to your local hard drive. Then copy that content from your generated location to the server. And that's what Publish (which is what I thought you were doing) accomplishes.
    Cheers... Rick
