Why endless shutdown during booting? - Macbook Air 10.8.3 update

After updating from 10.8.2 to 10.8.3 my Macbook Air 13" mid 2012 started to shutdown during booting.
I have tried to reset the SMC and PROMs several times with no result - still shutdown during booting.
The same result when starting in "safe" mode - shutdown in the end of booting.
When booting in verbose mode the last lines befor shutdown was:
AppleLMUController::smcReadKey received error 0x84 when reading key 'MSLD'
AppleLMUController::smcReadKey received error 0x84 when reading key 'ALV0'
It's no problem using the macbook air in target mode and use as the startup disk on another macbook.
The other mac start fine and run smoothly on the system 10.8.3 on the disk from the macbook air that shutdown during booting.
Before updating there was no problem with the computor...
What to do?

Run the #12 OnyX cache clearing routine, it's a lot of stuff to do and will take awhile, but it's very through on reseting your sub-system items like it was when it came from the factory.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
After rebooting it should sail like the wind, except bootup apps.

did you put your Air to sleep with headphones attached, or closed the monitor with phones attached?
Do not sleep your Air (close the monitor with headphones attached) with headphones attached, this is known to affect some Air under Mavericks.
      * this occurrence is being looked into.
Much testing on my own and others as well show that, in some instances, this occurs in Mavericks.
If you choose you may contact Apple for an appt and diagnostics.
However as said, refrain from having phones attached when you close the monitor to prevent this until it is resolved
    Test this and re-verify

OK. Now, you say you got this alert through App Store when trying to download Mavericks or after you downloaded it and were trying to install it? Which is the correct case?
The error you are getting may sometimes occur when the computer has already been updated, but I don't know why you would be getting this message. I can only suggest that you take it in for service to find out why this is happening.

  • Can't install os mavericks because don't have macbook air flash storage firmware update 1.1; can't install firmware update because OS is too old (10.7.4)

Hello, I have a Macbook Air, bought May 2012 or so that came with OS 10.7.4 on it.  Did not try to upgrade OS until recently.  Tried to upgrade to OS Mavericks, however received error message 'Before installing OS X Mavericks this system requires MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1."  I then downloaded and attempted to install said Firmware Update 1.1, but received another error message, to wit: "This update requires 10.7.5 or 10.8.5 or later"
Who can help me out the this Catch-22?  I thought about first updating to OS 10.8, but apparently that is no longer available?

    Hi CursedIn,
If the Firmware update required for Mavericks requires 10.7.5 to install, you may be able to download it directly from the following link:
OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo)

And I just update the mac on Oct 15
And today I heard about the ssd failure thing.
I head to appstore and find 0 updates there.
Then I download the MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1 here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1690
And it says "This computer does not need this update"
Does this mean my mac is good? Or not?

Firmware update tests the computer first to make sure that the SSD is not a faulty one.
Then update will not be installed and returns the message
"This computer does not need this update".

  • MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1

MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1.
I have a mid 2012 MacBook air. I just upgraded to Maverick. As part of the upgrade the ssd was checked and I got a message that my ssd was successfully upgraded and that it is fine. After two days a lost most of the data that was inside it.  Some photos songs and OS were not affected. All my document folder was erased and I lost all my work. Can you tell me if I need to go and replace the ssd or is this a normal issue with the upgrade to Mavrick?

MacBook Air computers sold between June 2012 through June 2013 with 64 or 128 GB SSDs are known to have a high SSD failure rate and Apple is replacing them for free.
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbookair-flashdrive/
You should maintain current backups.  Given the known failure rate of your SSD that is especially important.

  • How do i clean up my macbook air to install software updates?

how do i clean up my macbook air to install software updates? It says that I need to clean up the startup disk because I do not have enough space left but I don't know how to do that. Can anyone help me?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Macbook Air Won't Boot, Macbook Air Won't Boot

    So this is the story,
2 Weeks ago I sent in my 2009 Macbook Air 13" for an out of warranty repair. The initial issue was that the trackpad and keyboard were not being recognized, but the Air did start up. They completed the repair and stated that Apple had replaced the logic board. When I received the Air the trackpad and keyboard were indeed functioning properly. Now just last night the Air stopped working. My girlfriend was browsing youtube and then the screen went gray and the Air unresponsive...I figured it was a crash from Flash...so I held down the power button to reset the laptop...the Air powered off but when I tried to turn it back on, the usual startup chime you hear was not present....Any time I press the power button the chime does not play, the screen does not turn on or flicker, the only thing that visibly shows is that the Sleep LED when you press the power button after a few seconds comes on...also the battery is fine as the Air was connected to a magsafe and it was charging the battery during this state and is now solid green instead of amber....I've tried resetting PRAM and SMC to no avail....so my question is being that the Air is out of warranty, Will I have to pay an additional charge once again for this repair, considering the Logic Board was just replaced...I understand if its a different part, then ok but if they deem it again a logic board issue or if the problem stemmed from the initial repair, would I have to cover the cost....Already spent a pretty penny the first time, having to pay for a repair a 2nd time I dont think I could stomach and as such would just save and buy a new one later next month...I called my local Apple Store but the associate was not sure as to whether I would incurr any additional costs, since it has only been 2 weeks since the Air was repaired...Any input would be appreciated...

  • Boot MacBook Air from remote CD?

I just bought a MacBook Air second hand and Verified Disk Permissions to see if anything was wrong, there is. Now, it works fine, I only need it for light work, but it recommends that I boot from the install CDs, which I have... but I need one of those external Optical Drives.
Now, I do have an iMac and I seem to recall that there was some software that came out that would allow a wireless connection but am not sure if that will work when booting from the CD, my suspicions are that it will not. It's my day off and I only get one so I do not want to spend the whole day trying to figure this out, of course I could have tried it but I thought that reaching out to the community might be best.
    Any ideas please?

  • Problems Booting Macbook Air

Recently my 2009 Macbook air will not boot. I used it about a week ago and have had no apparent problems. Tried to turn on yesterday and nothing- no fans, hdd kicking on, power to screen. Plugged in power cord thinking it was dead and the indicator displayed green, which I knew was incorrect. Still displaying green when I plug in charger. Sounds like it may be a mobo problem to me. Any helpful advice?
