Why every time I open Firefox does it say that I do not have the latest version? I have downloaded 8.0.1 dmg for the Mac.

The Mac has system version 10.6.8. I have the orange Firefox HD icon on my desk top. Am I supposed to do something with that?

What page is telling you this? If it is google.com/firefox that page is outdated and reporting wrong information.
Change your homepage to about:home or something else...

  • I have updated Firefox, downloaded and install the update but everytime I open Firefox, I am told that I do not have the latest version, why?

I have downloaded the update and installed it a few times and I still have the same issue, (not having the latest version). I am running windows XP.

If you see the message in here: www.google.com/firefox
'''you are updated '''see your user agent :
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 '''Firefox/9.0.1'''
all you have to do is to '''set another page as the home page''', as '''cor-el '''said with very detailed explanation in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/905310 here]
    '''copied from cor-el reply:'''
"That text about not running the latest Firefox version is hardcoded on the www.google.com/firefox site that previous Firefox used as the home page and Google doesn't seem to maintain that page anymore. Current Firefox versions no longer use that Google site as the home page, but use the build-in about:home page as the home page. So Google assumes that you use an older Firefox version if you still visit that site and warns you about that and suggests to update. You can use another page as the home page like about:home or www.google.com or www.google.com/ig (iGoogle)."

  • I have a mac 10.4.11 Tiger and when I tried to use the new version of firefox. It says that it is not compatible. What version will work?

I am having trouble with some websites, i.e. amazon. It says that it works best with a newer version of safari, firefox, etc.
I had my hard drive crash so when I had the new one installed I tried to download the newest firefox and found it is not compatible with the mac tiger that I need a newer version leopard +
How do I download a version that will work?
    Thanks

Just repeating what it says above: "Firefox 4 and later require at least OS X 10.5".
I have OS X 10. 5 but I am sticking with Firefox 3.6.24. The last time I upgraded to Firefox 4, I had to wait 5 minutes for every mouse click to execute.

  • Every time I open Firefox it tells me that I need to update flashplayer, I download the update, it automatically tries to open as a ms word file

I cannot find a way to download a version of the update that is actually an installer rather than a word file. I am running a mac, os x 10

The file should end with .dmg, which normally is a system extension not associated with Microsoft Word. Is Firefox changing the name??
Since the same plugin is used by both Safari and Firefox, have you tried downloading with Safari?

  • In windows 7, firefox 4.0.1, How do you close tabs so they don't open every time I open firefox?

Can't close tabs so they don't open every time I open Firefox.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • Every time I open Firefox or a new Firefox window, my home page opens but so does a second tab showing the LinkedIn login page. Don't know how this started happening or how to stop it.

Figured it out. There was code in the Preferences/home page field telling it to open my home page and that page at the same time in two tabs. Don't know how it happened, but is fixed now.

Yeah, I don't know why I can't find my posted problem of November 18, but it was similar, and I also figured out how to fix it. IF when you open Firefox to your homepage and MORE opens than IS your homepage, then go to tools, options, and check your homepage info. You will find the URLs to your homepage plus whatever windows are opening that you do NOT want. Delete everything but the homepage and close. I had at least 10 windows opening from a browsing session over a week ago every time I opened Firefox... aggravating!

  • Why does Notes close every time I open it?   I can't access my notes...

    Why does Notes close every time I open it?   I can't access my notes;
there don't appear to be any.    Help!
When I check in Settings, Notes has disappeared from the list of Apps
On my iPhone, yet I didn't delete it.    I had dozens of notes, lots
    of necessary information stored therein.
    Thanks for any help....

I was having this issue also. I found this thread and disabling Exchange Notes did the trick. Obviously, this is the solution only if you were using Exchange to begin with.
If you want to continue to use Exchange notes or perhaps try this to see if it works in general, I found a fix on this site. All works well now.
    1. Delete your exchange account from the Mail, Contacts & Calendars pane in System Preferences.
    2. Go to Finder, click "Go" in the menu bar, click "Go to Folder" and type in "~/Library" (without the quotes) in the box. This will take you to your user Library folder.
    3. Use the search box in the finder and type in "com.apple.notes" and click "Library" in the search bar that appears. This should now find several folders and files related to the Notes app. Rename or delete everything except the help files (with the lifesaver icons on them).
    4. Restart your Mac. Put your exchange account back into System Preferences, you can go ahead and activate the Notes sync service.
    5. Open Notes and it should be working now!

  • Since upgrading to Firefox 5, I can no longer browse for attachments in AOL Webmail, and every time I open Firefox, it asks me if Mozilla can make changes to my hard drive. I've gone back to Internet Explorer.

I upgraded to the latest version of Mozilla Firefox and ever since then, every time I open Firefox it asks me if I want to allow Mozilla to make changes to my hard drive. I have to answer "Yes" or else it won't open Firefox. Then when I open my AOL Webmail and try to browse for an attachment, it freezes up the browser window and I have to open the Task Manager to close Firefox. I have now gone back to Internet Explorer which does not have either one of these problems.

Maybe just corrupted Disk Utility preferences ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DiskUtility.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.DiskUtility.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then try creating a .dmg file.

  • I updated Firefox. Now, I can't get rid of the blue box saying drag drag the icon to the applications folder. Plus another icon to 'eject' firefox opens. Every time I open firefox, they show up. Even Apple Help could not fix it.

I can close the little blue 'drag' box every time I open Firefox, but that is a hassle, and I know it should not be necessary. When I try to eject the 'peripheral' icon, it says I cannot because Firefox is in use. I have to wait until I close Firefox to be able to eject it off the desktop.

    Hi dgbakker-
When you open Firefox and go to the Firefox > About menu, does it say that Firefox is up to date? I've seen at least one other person with this issue, and any more detail would be helpful.

  • How do I stop Firefox automatically opening and forcing me onto a second tab with a Google sign-in every time I open Firefox?

Every time I open Firefox to search for something - it automatically opens a second tab and forces me to that tab. On the second tab is the Google account login. I now avoid using Firefox if I can because I cannot shut this off.

Does this also happen in Safe Mode? You can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
Also, on the General tab in Firefox preferences, what are "When Firefox starts" and "Home Page" set to?

  • How do I block a popup window that I have allowed to open on Firefox once? I now have the popup blocker set to block all sites, but the popup still opens every time I open Firefox or open (sometimes) a new tab.

How do I block a popup? I allowed this popup to open once. Now I have set the popup blocker to block all sites but this popup still opens every time I open Firefox and sometimes (usually) when I open a new tab.
I Have stopped and restarted Firefox multiple times.
    I have rebooted the computer.
I have set the tools/options/content/block pop-up windows/exceptions to block all sites (no exceptions).
I have no other issues with Firefox.
I have Adblock plus (with (1) subscription) installed
I am currently using Firefox version 4.0 on Windows7 Ultimate.

Just to address the last point: check your History menu to see whether you have the Restore Previous Session option and use that if you can. If that is grayed out or doesn't restore everything, check the Recently Closed Windows and Recently Closed Tabs lists for other pages.
The unwanted window may be generated by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any improvement?
Here are some other things to check:
    (1) user.js file that changes Firefox startup behavior and overrides your preferences. This article describes how to track that down and delete it if you have one: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    (2) Possible hijacked shortcut. Check the "target" of the desktop icon you use to start Firefox to see whether it lists the unwanted page. To do that:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be no more and no less than this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    (3) Possible undisclosed bundle items. If you have installed any free software recently, check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program for surprises. If you click the "Installed on" column head to group by date, it is easier to spot bundled junk. Remove everything suspicious or unrecognized.
    (4) Supplemental clean up scans. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    Hopefully that cures it.

  • How do I stop the Welcome to Firefox tab from opening every time I open Firefox?

I have read two ways to try and stop this in the help but they either did not apply or I could not do what they suggest.
Every time I open Firefox of late the Welcome to fire fox tab opens along with my home page. It is only a small annoyance to turn it off each time but I would like to stop it from happening. What can I do?
I found another where they say to delete something out of the about.config but I was not able to delete the line. I could not find how to delete a line out of the about config.

You can check the home page setting:
*Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page
Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' (pipe) symbols.
There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

  • How do I stop the Plugin Status screen from coming up every time I open Firefox?

I get a screen asking me to update or delete a list of plug ins. I don't want to see this every time I open Firefox.

Updating your Plugin programs would get rid of that "nag" page when you open Firefox.
Both Java and Flash received updates this past week.
Type '''about:config''' in the URL bar and hit Enter. <br />
''If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access that page.''
Pref = '''plugins.update.notifyUser''' if it shows as True, double-click that pref to toggle it to '''False'''
