In general when syncing the device won't give the desired results the following steps should work.
Backup the device.
Restore as a new device.
Restore the backup made earlier.

This is called "extended desktop mode". It's an extension of the desktop off to the right (by default) of your MBair screen. Grab an app and drag it off the right side of your MBair screen and it will appear on the TV.
To mirror your MBair screen on the TV you can press Command F1. This will toogle between mirror and extended desktop.
You can find all the settings in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab.

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

I would like to embed interactive widgets in iBooks using iBookAuthor. The widgets in question started life in Java but GWT has allowed them to be converted to javascript and to run on web pages (for example, http://softoption.us/content/node/437 scroll to the bottom). In theory, iBookAuthor can bring in most html5, and much javascript. The technique is to wrap the html in a folder, with 2 extra files, a plist and a default png and then change the extension of the folder to ‘.wdgt’. This is the technique for making Dashboard widgets for the Mac, and Apple even have the Dashcode software to do it. So what you really do is to make a Dashboard widget, then iBookAuthor can import it. So far, so good. And some folk have been doing this, for example http://www.prweb.com/releases/2012/2/prweb9242432.htm http://www.panophoto.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=10417&p=158330#p158423 However, if you start with GWT and create a single page with one button and a Hello World, compile it, and get the WAR file (I use Eclipse here)… the Safari browser and others will run it properly (even on an iPad). Then if you wrap it, a proper Dashboard widget is created, which runs properly on a Mac. Then if you go to iBookAuthor and put a custom widget in the Text, then drag it in. I do have a little to add, which might help someone. Indeed, opening a blank page and dragging the widget straight in seems good in difficult cases. But, actually, I was also able to insert successfully from the Toolbar especially to blank pages. So, it may have been something to do with the columns and stuff like that. Anyway back then the insertion would show in iBooks Author but not in the Preview on the iPad. I moved on to actual Google Web Toolkit output javascript. Basically I had three at hand to try: a Hello World with a button which went straight it, one of moderate complexity, (for example with a built in Lisp interpreter), which also went straight in, and finally a more complex one that initially was rejected by iBook Author. Author complained that there was an unsupported media file (of course, Author does not tell you which one it is, that would be too easy). [Remember, this was a proper working Dashboard widget which could be installed on a Mac]. Among other things I had read remarks about .gif files. When looking through the GWT war directory at the actual javascript etc files, I noticed there were two gifs there one called ‘clear.cache.gif ‘ and a second one called ‘0F89659FF3F324AE4116F700257E32BD.cache.gif’. (Now, there is obfuscation so the numbers here may be different from case to case.) The clear.cache.gif did not seem to be anything special. But the other one is an animation. It is three little boxes that twinkle (rather like a waiting spinning cursor). So, I opened that file and saved it to itself (that picks the top frame of the animation and saves only that, leaving you with an unanimated gif). The resulting widget drags and drops into iBooks Author (and seems to work properly at a quick glance). So, if you are having trouble with ‘unsupported media files’ converting animated gifs into unanimated gifs might help in some cases.

This is a wireless carrier issue. The fact that the speaker & microphone work properly for other apps is a great indicator that your device is fine.
Contact your wireless carrier about your call quality issue.

Using blade cuts the audio why??

Hi all
I'm using blade to trim some video and the moment that I select the part that I want deleted it deletes my audio at the same time
and my audio is separate from the video (using the audio from another video that I have taken out and replaced the video with newer
footage) What am I doing wrong here?? The audio shouldn't be attached to anything because I have detached it so I just used the trim
tool and shrunk it but like I said I was able to delete the selected video part but when I delete it, it deletes the audio. Any way to fix this?
I'm using FCP 10.0.9 since I don't have Mav (10.9) installed.

HP Photosmart C410 document feeder says there is a jam everytime I use it (when the job is done)

Hi all, I am on my second HP c410 (black, premium photosmart printer with an ADF, web, eprint, etc). I returned the first one because everytime I used the document feeder to scan or fax, at the end of my job, I would get an error saying paper jam in the feeder, reload, and try again.
My second C410 is doing this as well. I called support and their conclusion was to either send it to them or exchange. Is this a well known problem? Is it worth it to try to exchange it for a third one, or can you think of anything that would cause this. Support had me take apart the paper puller, check every nook and cranny (this was with the first one) and then go through some documentation on my own. I am figuring if my second one also does this, other people have to be experiencing it as well and maybe found a work-around????

I'm in the same situation. I've just received my second C410 printer with this fault in the document feeder (it continues to try to feed when all documents have been fed and eventually shows a feeder jam error). HP support asked me to try various resets without success, but I've located the problem.
Underneath the cover for the document feeder is a small plastic spring-loaded part which detects the presence of paper. On my machine, this gets stuck in the up (paper present) position when paper is fed and so the printer doesn't know when no paper remains in the feeder tray. I proved this to be the cause by gently forcing the paper detector down with a finger after the paper had fed. By doing this, the feeder works correctly. Looking at the affected part, this appears to be a design or manufacturing fault as the hinged paper detector rubs against the document feeder cover which causes it to become stuck.

Unfortunately, I've had to return both of these for a refund. It's a shame as otherwise it seems to be a well designed machine.

Upon using USB Headsets the audio gets distorted

I have used USB headset in other laptops including HP but have never faced this problem. But I get this problem with the new notebook, and after a few minutes of use the audio quality automatically gets distorted and loud.
This is not a problem with the USB headsets since I have been using them since long without any problem, and they dont give me any distortion with other notebooks even today.
Please advise.

The headset has an independent C-Media audio chip that accepts USB on one side and has it's own AC97/DAC. Because are 2 devices (one USB controller and one AC97 sound chip) apears in 2 places in Windows devices! For more info look here:

So trying to use the USB headset via the X-Fi is like you are trying to use the on-board soundcard via the X-Fi...

Why does firefox use more memory the longer it's open?

Firefox goes from using 90,000k when first opened to 293,000k after a couple of hours. It didn't used to go up that high. This is just Firefox this doesn't count what plugin container uses. This just started happening where it would get this high. I've not installed any new addons recently. The addons I do have are foxy tunes, adblock plus, Java console, Java quickstarter, move media player 7, Memory fox, Microsoft.net frame work assistance, personas, and yontoon layers. I've tried running in safe mode and disabling all the addons and I've still got the same result. I'm using firefox 3.618.

Sometimes application and programs don't report to the OS that it is no longer using the Ram and therefore the Ram Appears in use. Go to the Mac App Store and download a free Application called Free Memory. It's a useful tool that allows you to free that Ram that is not being used right from the Menu Bar.

When NOT using icons on the toolbar, side-bar drop-down for additional toolbar items has disappeared with Firefox 4 and accessing these items requires clicking 'Bookmarks', then 'Show all bookmarks' then 'Toolbar'--ugh, what a pain.

On older versions of Firefox, Toolbar links ran across the top of my screen, with a drop-down to the far right which would show additional Toolbar items for which there was not room on the screen.
With Firefox 4, if I'm not using icons (text only), the dedicated Toolbar drop-down is gone and I have to first click 'Bookmarks' to the right of the Toolbar ribbon, then 'Show All Bookmarks', then 'Toolbar' in order to access my additional Toolbar links. Could anyone have made it any harder?
Why doesn't someone just restore the drop-down at the far right of the Toolbar so that all of my Toolbar items (which I prefer to keep separately from the regular Bookmark items, else I would have just plain bookmarked those items in the first place) are readily accessible?

You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You only see the Bookmarks menu button if the Menu bar is hidden.

Presonus Firebox problem: I can see the audio levels but can't hear. Help!

Searched in the forums to what I think is a basic issue, but couldn't find anyone with an answer...
I have audio routed into my firebox from an external mixer. I can see the audio meter in the "in" sound panel of system preferences moving but I can't hear sound coming out of my soundsticks.
Audio routed out of my computer into external amp/stereo setup is audible, however.
Can anyone help me figure this out so I can move and and start setting Firebox up with Logic? LOL

Yes, line outs from the mixer are hooked up to line ins 3&4 on the back of the firebox. What I can't figure out is that the Sound Panel of System Preferences shows a good input level, whereas the meter in Logic shows nothing (rec is enabled and blinking). If I switch cables to the 1&2 instrument ins on the front of the Firebox, I get levels in both Sys Prefs and Logic. I'm thinking, the problem can't be the Firebox, because the computer sees the signal either way. I'm running Logic 6.0 Platinum BTW.
I find Presonus and their manual to be lacking. They take days to write back with curt responses... Either they don't have enough people or the Firebox is not expensive enough for them to devote to customer service... I don't know

Recorded videos and I can't hear any audio. Is the audio there and I cant hear it, or didn't get picked up at all?

The other night I went to a concert and tried to record some videos on my iPhone 4. When I came home and watched them, there was no sound! So I tried everything from making sure it wasn't on silent, bluetooth was off, restarted it, tried opening it in a media player, and nothing. I even uploaded them to a computer and no sound. Then I tried to record a test video and when I did that, my audio was fine. Did I do something wrong when recording at the concert? And was the audio not picked up and I have nothing or is it there and I just can't hear it? Theres no buzzing noise or slight nosie, just completely silent.

You should have gotten a user manual. If the manual is of no help, contact the manufacturer.

No there is the option for a black iPod touch 5th Generation. However, they call it Space Gray now. It provides a black front screen and a slightly gray colored aluminum on the back.

When audio chatting, other people can hear my headphone's sound

Say I'm in an audio chat with someone using headphones with mic and are playing music. They can hear the music quite clear.
What was the problem?

Primirily two clients, QQ and Messages. All the same: the other side can hear whatever comes out of my earpiece, not only music or movie , but also system sound.
I'm using the mike on my earpiece and I'm sure the earpiece is fine. I've tried two kinds of earpieces from UE and Audio-technica , both with mike and both had the same problem.
If I use the computer's mike, which is when I use a earpiece with no mic. Things are totally normal.
I'm playing music/playing movie from my Mac. No surrounding sound source.
